Treeclan’s Tale: From the Grave
<< Return to Moon 13 interlude
Tumblr media
It wasn’t odd for a young molly to have kits. It was expected, even. Never stated out loud… but everyone knew it. Lynxclaw knew it was something that would happen to her eventually— but now that she was expecting kits, she had strange feelings she never anticipated.
She loved her mate. She knew she would love her kits too, but at the same time… something nagged at the back of her mind.
Is this all she would ever be?
“Are you sure you don’t need more help moving in?” Ratleaf asked.
“I’m alright, Rat.” Lynxclaw said.
Hopebud bumped Lynxclaw’s side. “You don’t have to worry about her, Ratleaf. She’ll have me.”
Beetleheart had his jaws on a large rat, which he left at Lynxclaw’s feet. “The best freshkill for the new mother!”
“Dad—!” Lynxclaw started to protest— after all, she had only just found out she was expecting kits a day ago! She still had at least a moon and a half before the kits were born, according to Aspenstripe.
It was Lynxclaw’s mate, Locustclaw, who suggested she pick a nest early and move some of her moss into it. After all, it would be more comfortable to ease herself into the nursery than move all at once, he supposed. Hopebud was already in the process of staking out their future nest, though they weren’t moving into the nursery yet either. But why had her brother and father insisted on tagging along too?
“Let’s not crowd them, you two.” the voice of a familiar molly rang out.
Beetleheart and Ratleaf backed off, letting her stride through. It was Lynxclaw’s mother, Slatestripe.
“Sorry, mom.” Ratleaf murmured.
“I understand you want to help her, but I know from experience that everyone fretting just makes it more stressful.” Slatestripe said calmly. “Lynx, would you like to go on a walk with me?”
Lynxclaw practically jumped at the opportunity. “Of course mom!”
The mother and daughter ducked out of the weaved brambles of the nursery and strode through the bushes. At the outskirts of camp, Lynxclaw paused.
“Hey, mom?”
Slatestripe stopped, looking back at her daughter. “Yes, Lynx?”
“Did,” she gulped, then continued, “did you ever feel like you were giving up on your dreams when you had me?”
Slatestripe looked surprised, before her confusion turned to a soft smile. She sat down, before patting the grass next to her. “Come, sit.”
Lynxclaw obliged, making herself comfortable next to her mother.
“You know… I was in the running for deputy once.” Slatestripe started.
Lynxclaw gasped. “You were?!”
“Yes. The old deputy was killed on patrol… Badgerstar wanted someone young to replace him. Someone who could become leader. That was almost me.”
Slatestripe cocked her head to the side. “But… on the prey pile that morning, there was a sign pointing to someone else.”
“Aunt Bonestripe.” Lynxclaw breathed.
Slatestripe nodded. “I won’t lie… that day, I cried a little. I thought that my ambitions were destroyed,” she smiled, as though reminiscing on an old memory. “But your aunt… as cunning and cold as she is, she always turned to me for advice. And when someone broke the warrior code, I helped explain their position to her and allowed them to stay in the clan. That was the day I realized that deputy wasn’t the end-all-be-all.”
Lynxclaw blinked. “So… you’re saying I should aim for deputy?”
Slatestripe laughed. “No, Lynx. I’m saying that even if your original goals seem lost to you now, there’s always a way to follow your ambitions… even if they change a little on the way.”
Slatestripe got to her feet, turning back to her daughter.
“That being said… if you did become deputy, I would support you every step of the way.”
Lynxclaw still ruminated on the lesson her mother had given her. Standing up, she padded her way out of the camp for some air. What did she want to after this? Certainly, she didn’t want to be boxed into the role of mother forever. But she wasn’t sure if she wanted to be deputy.
As she stepped through the forest, she heard some strange noises. They almost sounded like… wheezing?
“Hello?” Lynxclaw said, dropping into a crouch. She wasn’t too large yet— so she was able to slink towards the target without issue.
There, hidden beneath a bush, was her aunt.
“A-Auntie!” Lynxclaw ran towards her. Bonestripe was on the ground, her face contorted into a pained scowl. “What happened?!”
Bonestripe heaved. “D-deathroot… that bastard… he poisoned me!”
Lynxclaw panicked. What could she do? She only had one idea. “Uh, stay here! I’m going to get some help!”
Bonestripe growled. “No use, you fool! They’re… the ones… who did this….”
Lynxclaw didn’t stick around. She needed to help her aunt. Quickly, she ran towards the cleric den. There was a spot in the back where she could squeeze into the log, she remembered. Yarrowheart had gotten scolded when he snuck in that way.
Ignoring the pain in her legs, she pushed herself into the den.
There, she was surrounded by herbs of many smells and sizes. What did her aunt need?
“Lynxclaw?” Cloverpelt shambled into the den. “What did you need?”
“I-I think I accidentally ate some deathroot!” she lied, frantically.
Cloverpelt looked annoyed, then fumbled around with some herbs on a shelf. Lynxclaw could have sworn she heard her mumbling something about overdramatic queens.
She spat out something black at Lynxclaw’s feet. “This should neutralize any deathroot you might have swallowed.”
Then, she left.
Lynxclaw quickly grasped it in her jaws and squeezed out the way she came. From there, it was just a short run to where Bonestripe lay. But every moment of it was agonizing.
“What… do you have… in your mouth?” Bonestripe asked, weakly.
“Dunno. But eat it.” Lynxclaw’s voice was muffled.
“That… that isn’t allowed, Lynx.”
“Shut up!”
Lynxclaw kneeled to her aunt’s side, nudging her mouth open, and feeding her the black substance. Bonestripe weakly swallowed it.
Lynxclaw sighed. “I-I’ll stay with you until I’m sure you’ll be ok.”
Bonestripe looked furious, but she could barely lift her head.
“A thank you would be appreciated for saving your life.” Lynxclaw growled.
“I don’t want you… breaking rules on my behalf.” Bonestripe practically whispered. “Especially with your kits…. They’ll use it as an excuse… to hurt them too.”
“Who did this to you?”
“I… don’t know.” Bonestripe admitted. “But… I know Badgerstar is behind it… he always is…”
“How did you know it was deathroot?”
Bonestripe paused.
“Not… the first poisoning… he’s done. Deathberries are too… easy to cure. Deathroot… hard to find the cure…. Need to trade for it.”
Lynxclaw frowned. “Why would Cloverpelt give me some then?”
Bonestripe laughed. “…didn’t want to deal with… Slatestripe mourning again… my guess.”
Lynxclaw sat there, looking at the withered husk of her aunt. She was too stubborn to ask for help— too paranoid to trust anyone. She cursed their clan for pushing Bonestripe to that point.
“I’m going to move you somewhere safer.” Lynxclaw finally said.
“You… don’t have to.”
“Shut up.”
Lynxclaw slowly dragged Bonestripe to the base of a tree she knew had an old snake den dug into. Inside, she put Bonestripe. She covered the top with leaves.
Hopefully, she would be safer there. Bonestripe seemed to be regaining a bit of her strength. Lynxclaw was certain she would make it.
She padded her way back to camp, before slipping in. It didn’t seem like anyone noticed she was gone.
Some of the older warriors were huddled up by the elder’s den. Lynxclaw could barely hear their conversation.
“…won’t be deputy much longer…”
Lynxclaw paused. They were talking about her aunt.
She found herself walking to the side of the elder’s bush, as if heading to the dirtplace. Instead of leaving camp, she was quiet as she pressed herself into the leaves of the den. Then, she listened.
“Bah, what do you even mean by that, Shinewhisker?” Flybracken, an older tortoiseshell warrior, said.
“Oh… just a hunch.” Shinewhisker laughed.
Shinewhisker was a brown-and-white warrior— Goosetuft’s father, Lynxclaw remembered. He would have a good motive to poison her aunt. After all, his mate Brokenpad was one of Badgerstar’s children, and a staunch supporter of his faction.
“Treason talk isn’t good to have in camp.” Larchfang, another senior warrior, mentioned.
“Who’s even listening? Slatestripe? She’s a bleeding heart, but even she realizes that Bonestripe’s not becoming leader.” Shinewhisker said. “I mean, not even the rest of the cursed family is on Bonestripe’s side!”
I’m on her side! Lynxclaw thought. Then, she remembered how invisible she was to her clanmates. She doubted they even remembered she was a member of the same family as Bonestripe, at this point.
“Who do you think will become deputy instead?” Flybracken asked.
“Hopefully Houndheart. It’s better to have one of Badgerstar’s kits in the seat. I’d like Brokenpad, but we’re getting a bit too old for that stuff nowadays.”
Larchfang spoke up. “Houndheart?! Don’t be stupid, Shinewhisker. Slatestripe is meant to be leader. Badgerstar will pick her after Bonestripe passes.”
“She’s too fond of that cursed family now, and too unwilling to grab her destiny. It shouldn’t happen— not after she had those kits with that cursed tom.” Flybracken grumbled.
Lynxclaw couldn’t listen to them insult her mother any more. She left abruptly, pretending she was returning from the dirtplace. The senior warriors never even paid any attention to her. She was invisible to them— nothing more than just a queen. Slatestripe’s daughter. Maybe even a cursed one, if they remembered that. But she would use that to her advantage.
“It was Shinewhisker. Maybe Brokenpad helped.”
Bonestripe was cleaning the dirt off her paws. “How in Starclan did you learn this?”
“I listened in on their conversation.”
She huffed, before standing.
“…Very well. I’ll take this information to your brother. I’ll have him organize a trial for them.”
She turned to leave. Lynxclaw stopped her with a paw on her shoulder.
“Wait. I have one more thing.”
Bonestripe grunted. “No. Whatever it is, no.”
“Let me be your informant!”
“Absolutely not!” she growled. “This was dangerous enough as-is!”
Lynxclaw shook her head. “It’s not dangerous at all. Nobody even notices me, after all. All I’m doing is being observant.”
Bonestripe sighs. “You won’t relent until I say yes, will you?”
Lynxclaw nodded.
“You’re just like your mother.” She chuckled a bit, almost smiling. “Fine. Bring me any information you think will help.”
With that, she walked away to camp.
Treeclan was a den of wolves. And every day, it seemed like they tried to swallow their family whole. But Lynxclaw would live a sheep in wolves pelt, because that was what she was good at. And maybe one day, her clan would be better… for both herself, and her future kits.

While I may not be allowing myself to post spiraling upwards spoilers, I see no issue with posting art of a bunch of folks who are dead before the story starts and one Conetalon who isn't
#keese draws#warrior cats#warrior cats oc#spiraling upwards#these are all the og leaders and deputies of each of the 4 main clans!#and cone is the only of the og deputies who didn’t die before their leader lol#also two of these are mother daughter duos with bonestar being conetalons mom and bristlestar being gullspots mom#gullspots died during a horrible flood in their old camp#and this was pretty early on in the clan’s life too so no one else was rly qualified to be deputy#she ended up choosing honeyfeather as her new deputy which honey did. not take well.#she had be among the injured in the flood and had just lost her tail along with her best friend#so she was not in a place to be deputy at All#and things would only get worse for her when bristle died only a few months later of old age#because of this she has. complicated feelings on bristle to put it lightly.#frostflow died from an infected wound after a nasty fall which left pretty much the entire clan devastated#foggystar didn’t want to force anyone who was grieving to become deputy so he decided on a cat who had only been a part of the clan for#about a year after his old owners died in a house fire#his name was daisy and he’s one of my favorites and currently he’s the youngest of the four leaders#pigeon died via snake bite which is ironic for reasons I won’t go into now but everyone was devastated blah blah blah but really this did#fuck up most of the older members of the clan a lot as pigeon played such a vital role in them all being alive here today#ratstar ended up choosing her other crush (more complicated edition) as her new deputy since she was the right hand man to the cat who#started the revolution that brought them all together but abt a year later it became clear to both of them that nightfur wasn’t able to#handle the pressure of this anymore so she retired#after that ratstar just tried to pick the most responsible looking cat and she kind of succeeded#I say kind of because she Was but then 3 of her children got murdered and her best friend died right before ratstar dropped dead#so now she’s barely holding things together and has some newfound anger issues#and then my girl conestar just got to hang out and become leader when her mom died lucky her#well no she was absolutely devisated when her mom died as bonestar was like the number one cat she cared abt#she had been terrified of losing her mom for good for years so even though she could tell her mom was getting old and was able to talk to#her directly about these fears she still had a hard time moving forwards

FINAL ROUND!
Meet the OCs: Saltburn (she/her) - @nanistar
Saltburn is a laid back, relaxed senior warrior who lives in SaguaroClan, one of the three friendly Clans of the sunny Mojave desert. She is a bit odd, having a bald patch on her nose, and extra sensitive eyes that keep her from going out a lot during the day, but she remains cheerful. She loves her MarshClan mate Hollowspur and her best friend, the SaguaroClan healer Silversky. Little does she know, she is actually a lost child of Bonestar, the leader of MoonClan; a long forgotten Clan that was banished to the nearby abandoned copper mine over 100 years ago….
Cowpaw (she/her) - @thylacid
Cowpaw is a little freak apprentice who used to be normal but one day she snuck out of camp and boom. Alien parasite. This parasite slowly formed a strong attachment to Cowpaw and now the two of them are basically like sisters (the parasite is slowly killing Cowpaw and cannot stop that so its prolonging her suffering out of a desire to keep her alive)

So here's some lmk Wc designs +1 redesign
(I'm still fleshing out this world, trying to figure out how normal and supernatural I want it to be)
Tw:talk of animal death, and abandonment/cruelty
Tumblr media
DeadTooth, was a ex deputy back when he was alive and long before he met the Bonestar(lbd). He had always had a strange connection to the darkforest, and one leafbare he met his lady. She saved him from freezing too death, and soo was forever in dept with her.
He would sneak out to visit her, she'd slowly infect his mind and soon have her minion. She'd send him strange dreams and visions, instructing him to kill cats and soon his leader. Of course his ex-leader found out and exiled him, he spent most his times in the dark forest until one day. When he was out hunting one dawn, he was ran over by a monster. StarClan or better known as celestial clan, wouldn't take him because of his tainted soul, but his lady did.
He earned the name DeadTooth, and served as his lady's right hand man. No one knows his living name.
Tumblr media
Bai He, currently known as Freezepaw. Was a kittypet and lived with her twolegs out in the city, one harsh winter she was abandoned in the middle of the woods, during a harsh blizzard. She tried chasing after her humans, but they where gone before she knew it.
She wasn't meant to survive that night, she knew that, but unfortunately faith had other plans. While walking through the deep snow trying to find shelter, she started to hear a voice Calling her. Turning around she saw a strange grinning cat looking at her before vanishing, alarmed but curious she chased after the cat before collapsing. She was cold and fearful, as she washed her vision blurred.
Then she woke up! But something was wrong she wasn't in her body, yet it was moving on it's own talking and muttering something about a plan. She tried talking, but the entity paid no mind, to busy controlling it's new toy.
She came to find out it was Bonestar, and with her soul still attached to her body she was unable to leave or go to a afterlife. She watched this horrible cat kill and hurt people, unable to stop her as she built her empire.
The she-cat remembered when the monkie kids came, she remembered feeling relief but also dread. She didn't know much about possession, but she was sure if her body got extremely injured she'd be dead permanently as a lost sprit. Bonestar didn't want to keep her body anymore tho, finding it to weak and fragile.
Bai he didn't know what happened after that tho, she knew the she-cat was defeated and no more though. Unfortunately tho even with the happy ending, her life was far from it. She was still homeless, and still too young to fend for herself, barely 6 moons old.
Fortunately she didn't have to worry tho. Wandering around the City, she happened to stumble upon a abandoned theater which was home of Shadowears. The Loner seeing her pitiful state and remembering recent events decided to take her in, giving her the name Freezekit before quickly naming her Freezepaw a moon after.
(While she's not part of any clan, she is now an honorary apprentice of Macaque's)
Tumblr media
Now onto our redesign.
Now I changed his backstory a lot, since most my old backstories where concepts. Also now he doesn't look like rip off Litten. (I couldn't decide between Flametail or Redpelt, for his name)
Red son is the son of Ironwing(PIF) and Bullstar (DBK), His mother was exiled from StarClan when she was found out to be in love with a living cat. She was a darkforest spirit for awhile before Guanyin took pity and gave her back a living body.
Anyways onto Red sons actually Backstory.
Redson was born in desertclan, a warm sandy area surrounded by lava and volcanoes. They where 2 moons old when he met Peachstar (Monkey King) who at the time of the journey was demoted to Peachheart. He doesn't remember much just that Peachheart came to ask for help with something, and his father getting agitated with him. This wouldn't be his last encounter with him tho.
At 6 moons old, he was apprenticed to missingear(place holdername for Ironclad general.) As a apprentice Red paw/Flamepaw was bad tempered, messing with clan boarders, hunting where he wants and having no respect of the warrior code... (Cloudpaw 2.0 lol)
Because of his recklessness his mother feared he'd end up dead before he's a warrior, so at night she'd prayed to StarClan for them to help guide him on the right path. Apparently this ment sending down Lotusflame(Nezha) as his guide, the stary cat followed him everywhere and mentored him on his bad temper. Unofficially becoming his temporary mentor.
(Idk if I'm making this next part canon but thought I should add it) during his apprenticeship, Red son had been hunting closer to the city in hopes of finding better food then the stupid lizards in his clan. Unfortunately he was too careless and unfamiliar with the unfamiliar area, and was caught by a Twoleg.
The Twoleg had fitted him with a leather purple collar, planning on making him a disgusting Kittypet. Fortunately for him tho, he was only gone for a moon. He managed to escape the property the moment a door opened, and managed to find his way back home after a long journey. (Managing to get the collar off somehow)
(The rest is canon)
When he got back to his clan tho he was met with devastation, the clan was destroyed. All his clanmates where missing, including his father, the only one left was his mother IronWind. When asked what happened, she told him how after he was captured, Bullstar went out on a patrol to find him and never came back. During this a ban of rouges who had a vendetta against his dad, attacked the clan. Driving everyone out, his mom was only here in hopes of waiting for her love.
Upon hearing this, Red son was devastated. He wailed and begged for StarClan to help that night, but... There was no reply, not even Nezha answered. He doesn't remember when the spirit left, but he was certain with one thing StarClan was to blame for this. Refusing to help and sit on the sidelines to watch.
Despite his growing resentment, Red son gather enough courage to convince IronWing to follow him and find a new place to live. Eventually finding a place to live under a construction zone.
They weren't a clan anymore, even if they found a few of their lost warriors... What was a Clan without a leader, heaven knows his mother didn't want the position. What was a Clan without faith, what little faith he had faded over the years. Soon he was named a warrior though, and he could officially help his mom.
He spent years searching for his father, and then he did. bullstar was kept in a small cage inside a weird constructed building filled with other cats, among them was the rest of their lost warriors. Red son made a plan to break them out, unfortunately he had no idea a certain cat was gonna become a pain in his tail for a long time.
After getting his father out, he bumped into a kittypet who smelled of noodles. The kittypet seemed to have been spying and following them. Surprisingly stealthy, but not stealthy enough. The kittypet had made a noise that alerted the whole reunited clan.
And well, the rest is history (and will be touched upon some other time.)

Sketches headshots from some goobers from a ClanGen run. Fun facts:
Vixen showed up to SnapdragonClan as a fucked-up child spy and ended up 'bonding' with Mist while allegedly gathering intel. The bonding was him divulging more about why he was there and Mist staring at him with absolute horror over the fact Vixen was obviously being used and manipulated by the higher-ups in his clan. [This was actually all a lie on Vixen's part]
Young Adult toxic yaoi [They have so many problems, Mist please just throw Vixen out the nearest window before he fucks up your life with his obsessive violent delusional attachment issues]
Bonestar is a young leader who was appointed due to being just moldable enough for the previous leader, Plumestar, to get what she wanted beyond the grave, which was moving territories to cover up a mass tragedy that may or may not have been her fault [It was]
Sandy is SnapdragonClan's deputy, is way too old for this shit, and is one of the few cats who is old enough to have experienced the tragedy firsthand, he also lost his apprentice Milkweedpaw due to it, and didn't want to take on anymore responsibility after that.
He was extremely traumatized and is upset to be in his position. Doesn't like Bonestar because he knows the truth that she refuses to believe, they don't like eachother, the only reason Bonestar chose him was because she trusted his judgement due to being far older and more experienced than him.
Sandy is also Mist's father and doesn't have the best relationship with his son due to being hesitant to form a bond with him after what happened with Milkweedpaw, he's struggling.
Flareshiver is one of Sandy's closest confidants as the medicine cat and one of the main cats he rambles his troubles too, while she listens, she also gives him advice although she's been lacking in that department lately due to honestly being stumped on what to do about their current situation herself.
The only real advice she gave him was needing to mend his relationship with his son before anything worse happened and he wouldn't be able to. [She's also a trans woman, diversity win!!]
I love them all GRRRRRR

Gathering: Moon One
TW: Death mention
< previous | next > | all >>
Tumblr media
“Now, remember… you’re Shimmerpaw’s littermate,” Darkstar reminded Nightpaw. She nodded.
“I remember the story Dad. I’ll be ok.”
Nightpaw looked behind her. Tonight’s gathering would be the first since the attack… and the first she ever attended. The entire clan was with them— Darkstar said it was to look stronger.
She hung close to her friends as they made it to Four Corners. It was an old Twoleg den. Nightpaw had a lot of experience with those.
At the center, a strange light emanated from a smooth, round cylinder. She bristled; wait, it was fire!
Sandpaw put his hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry. It’s not like real fire. It stays in that cylinder.”
She sighed. “How did you know that was what I was thinking?”
“Because that was my reaction too.” he laughed with a mrrp.
They laughed together for a bit, until Darkstar hushed them. She took the opportunity to have a look around.
The three other clan leaders were sat at the highest part of the den. The first was a very old black cat— he was lighter than Darkstar, but much bigger than him. She assumed he was Badgerstar of Treeclan. Next was one she knew a little more— a tom with a maroon coat and white upper half. That was Finchstar. He was the youngest of the leaders. When she looked at the last leader, she felt fear.
His coat was a light ginger. It was spotted— but what drew her gaze was his crimson eyes. They were sharp. Piercing red. That must have been what he got his name from, she thought. Redstar.
He cleared his throat, starting first.
“We have had a good moon. Swampclan has welcomed two new warriors, Junco-eyes and Ploverbelly.”
He paused to allow the gathering to yowl their names. The Crystalclan cats merely glared at him. That didn’t seem to phase him— he continued as usual.
“And one new apprentice. Welcome, Hawthornpaw! And thank you to the Wanderers for shifting her our way!” He motioned to another cat on the balcony, seemingly a member of the Wanderers.
“Why is a member of a rogue group up there with the leaders?” she asked Starleaf.
“The Wanderers aren’t just a rogue group.” she said sternly. “It’s their job to rotate cats around our area. Taking exiled cats away from their clans and placed elsewhere, as well as placing interested kittypets and loners into the clans as well as anywhere else they desire. In that way, they’re like a fifth clan to us. You should know this— I was born into the Wanderers. And so was Shimmerpaw.”
Nightpaw chuckled nervously. “Look, I pay attention. I just didn’t realize the Wanderers were so… big and important, I guess.”
Nightpaw’s gaze was shifted to a pretty little cat— Hawthornpaw. It was clear— she was a former kittypet. Her pelt was a rare one in the wild. With luxurious cream fur and brown points, she couldn’t have been born a warrior.
Meanwhile, the two warriors looked somewhat familiar to her. Their grey pelts just seemed to remind her of something.
Starleaf murmured to her.
“Swanjaw’s kits.”
Nightpaw gasped. She remembered them! They were in the Bayclan nursery with her— just a few moons older!
“Wasn’t there three of them?” she asked.
Starleaf nodded. “Yes, but… Woodpeckerkit was a black kitten. They… well, you know.”
She looked away. She didn’t want to think about that.
Starleaf nudged her, pointing to the leaders again. Finchstar had rotated to speak.
“Grangeclan has not had much occur this past moon. However, we have one new apprentice, Firepaw.” he spoke curtly and quickly, before stepping back.
The aforementioned Firepaw was a very red cat. Next to her, her not-as-red mother and very blue father looked proud as they could be.
Up next was Badgerstar, who ambled to the front.
“Treeclan has recently lost a young apprentice. Perchpaw will be remembered for her enthusiasm and determination. A moment of silence for her, please.”
Everyone was quiet, besides the wailing of another Treeclan apprentice.
After that moment, Badgerstar left the front. It was Darkstar’s turn.
He went up to the front. “We have two new apprentices.” he said, with a smile. “Our kits are growing up. Nothing could be better!”
Nightpaw wasn’t stupid. She could easily tell that he was lying through his teeth. But the others seemed to have bought it.
“With one last thanks to Starclan, the Gathering is adjourned.” Everyone began to break for socializing.
“Leafy!” A cat cried, lunging at Starleaf. She was a cat with a pinkish hue, and strange pendant around her neck.
“Hello Pearlheart. How are you?” Starleaf mrrped happily.
Another cat was behind Pearlheart. This cat was a lot scruffier— she was a brown tabby with a red bandana. “You should be less forceful, Pearly.”
She pouted. “But I was so worried after I heard about the attack!”
The other cat noticed Nightpaw. “Who’s this, Leafy?”
“Oh, I’m Nightpaw! I’m Shimmerpaw’s sister.” she said quickly.
Starleaf motioned something to the two mollies, whose eyes went wide.
The brown tabby nodded. “We understand, Leafy.” She turned to Nightpaw. “It’s nice to meet you, Nightpaw. I’m Dovelight, deputy of Grangeclan. I’m an old friend of your mama. Take care of ol’ Foxtail for us, will you?”
She nods. They must know Foxtail Barley, Shimmerpaw’s mother. “I will.”
Pearlheart spoke as well. “And I’m Pearlheart, Grangeclan cleric! Your mom is very dear to me. I don’t know what I’d do without Lea-without Foxy!”
“Oh um— I’ll tell her that too!” She shot Starleaf a scared look.
Starleaf chuckled. “It’s alright. They can be trusted. They’re my best friends.”
With that, a wail erupted from the Treeclan gathering. A young molly apprentice, the same as before, was mourning.
“Go comfort her.” Starleaf signaled to Nightpaw.
“Wait, isn’t she from another clan?”
“War is rare. Friends in other clans are much more important… especially in this time.”
She noticed how Starleaf’s gaze lingered on Redstar.
Nightpaw nodded. “Alright, I’ll go help her.”
She walked over, mulling over what to say.
The apprentice was a white and brown molly, with a beautiful butterfly ornament attached to her ear.
“Hey. I’m Nightpaw. How are you feeling?” She whispered, sitting down next to her.
“Not good. Obviously.” she sniffled. “I’m Lynxpaw.”
“She was your sister, wasn’t she? I’ve lost a littermate too. I understand how it feels.” Nightpaw said gently.
“I knew the curse would take one of us.” Lynxpaw said, looking at the ground. “But why Perchpaw?!”
“Oh my stars, Lynxpaw, you need to shut up about the curse!” A dark tom apprentice snapped at her.
“Well, how do you explain our family’s luck then! You don’t believe it’s true, but now Perchpaw is gone!” she yowled back.
“Woah, woah, woah, enough!” Nightpaw heard the sound of Shimmerpaw behind her. “What’s this about a curse?”
Shimmerpaw laid herself to the other side of Lynxpaw, forming a tight huddle around her.
“My family is cursed. Every generation, when four kits are born… one will die horribly as an apprentice. We don’t know why. My father lost his sister as an apprentice, my grandmother before him… and so on.” Lynxpaw explained.
“Starclan has said that there isn’t a curse!” The dark tom lunged, only to be caught by the red apprentice from earlier.
“That’s enough.” Firepaw said, holding him back. “This is a Gathering. Fighting isn’t allowed.”
Nightpaw looked over to see if Starleaf could help, but she was deep in conversation with the Grangeclan deputy and cleric. Dang it!
“Yarrowpaw, I wish you would just believe the facts.” Lynxpaw muttered.
Nightpaw looked between this spat of littermates with extreme worry. “Um, hi. Firepaw? I’m Nightpaw. Do you think you could deal with Yarrowpaw for us?” She addressed the red Grangeclan apprentice.
“I’ll take care of it!” she winked. “Also, nice to meet you.”
With that, Firepaw dragged the unfortunate Yarrowpaw away from the girls.
Lynxpaw sighed. “My brother… he doesn’t believe in the curse. But it almost seems like he doesn’t care at all.”
“I’m sure he does—” Nightpaw started.
“He’s so mean to you. You don’t deserve it.” Shimmerpaw interjected.
Nightpaw shot her a confused look.
Shimmerpaw merely signed “validate her not justify him”
“Yeah, he’s a jerk!” Nightpaw said with gusto. “Don’t worry, I’m sure Firepaw is giving him a piece of her mind!”
Lynxpaw sniffled. “Thank you. But… he isn’t the worst of it. I feel like the clanmates who believe in the curse are worse…” she trailed off, then continued. “Sometimes, I feel so isolated with my clanmates. I feel like they hate me because of my lineage. It’s like they didn’t even mourn Perchpaw— they didn’t even care she was killed! They just see her death and my whole family as an extension of the curse. To them… our lives are nothing more than an inconvenience!”
Nightpaw leaned in. “I-I’m sorry.”
“My aunt is the deputy, you know. She had to fight so hard for that spot… she couldn’t become it until Starclan itself declared her worthy. But Badgerstar hates her! He’s been pushing her to step down for years!”
Nightpaw was confused. “Can’t he just replace her?”
Shimmerpaw shook her head. “No, any deputy appointed by Starclan sign cannot be removed for anything other than a crime against the warrior code. She’d have to step down herself.”
Lynxpaw cried. “It’s so awful! My aunt is a really good deputy, but why doesn’t anyone see it? My sister was full of enthusiasm, she had dreams— and yet, nobody mourns her but me!” She quieted down, her head hung low. “I-I don’t want to go back to my clanmates yet.”
Nightpaw merely stayed with her. “We’ll stay with you until the Gathering is over.” Shimmerpaw nodded in agreement.
“Thank you.” she murmured.
Firepaw bounded over. “Yarrowpaw is dealt with. I informed his mentor.”
Nightpaw could see a gray tabby molly scolding Yarrowpaw. He wouldn’t be a problem for a while, she suspected.
“Thank you.” Lynxpaw said.
“It’s nothing. By the way, I’m Firepaw!”
They all could tell. She was the youngest apprentice there with such fiery red fur. It was fluffy and stood out for its extravagance, especially here in the clans.
“Nice to meet you, Firepaw.” Shimmerpaw grinned. “Come sit with Lynxpaw here. The more friends, the better.”
“I don’t know how to thank you more.” Lynxpaw had eyes wider than the moon.
“No need. We’ll stay with you until the end.” Nightpaw nuzzled into Lynxpaw.
They kept their promise, sitting by her side until Starleaf beckoned them over to leave. Nightpaw was left with a good impression of the clans— and more importantly, two friends she could rely on in the future.

Moon 1 - Newleaf
The First Gathering
Tumblr media
Just follow the border this way, and you’ll find a twoleg structure. Bonestar’s words rang in Windstar’s head.
His border patrol had come across the lone SpikeClan leader earlier in the moon. She was friendly, and even said that StarClan sent an omen to be kind to their new neighbors.
Now on the way to the gathering, he and his cats had walked on what seemed to be a tiny thunderpath. Up ahead was a twoleg den without a roof. A stream flowed around it, and curved rocks laid scattered through the island.
“We’re sure this isn’t a trap?” Nightsplash whispered to Windstar.
He pricked his ears. There was the chatter of cats inside. “If it was, they’d be more quiet.”
“StarClan had also confirmed the older clans meant no harm to us,” Swanstreak said. He had visited the Moon Falls after Windstar reported his patrol.
“Windstar! There you are!” A black tabby rushed out from the entrance. She was only slightly bigger than Beaverpaw, but scars littered her pelt. This was the leader of SpikeClan.
“Greetings,” A white and silver cat followed. “You’ve already met Bonestar; I’m Halfstar, leader of NutClan.”
“Nice to meet you,” The dark blue tabby dipped his head. “Thank you for inviting us.”
“No thanks necessary. Although StarClan assured us about your presence, it’d be best to know our neighbors,” Halfstar meowed as she led his cats inside. “Welcome to the Four Walls.”
Inside, there was a sizeable number of cats– more than three times the size of ChimeClan. Their heads soon turned to the new group, exchanging looks of curiosity, wariness, or welcome.
Windstar turned his gaze elsewhere, observing the ruined twoleg structure. While it did indeed have four walls, the holes in them were tall and unnatural. Several long rocks were scattered through it, but the most notable was the pile in the middle. Bonestar called it the Echoing Stone.
“Is that actually a clan?” A white tom with purple eyes meowed. “They look like a bunch of rogues— one even looks like a kittypet!”
He was looking at Dancingtree, whose ears and legs were a dead giveaway. The former housecat tried his best to look small.
“Lavenderpatch!” Halfstar meowed sharply. “Do you not remember the omen our healer told us about!?”
“What if they’re the wrong cats?”
“Even I can see StarClan’s mark on the other’s forehead.” A senior… No, an elder sat on the Echoing Stone and stared at Windstar. “Introduce yourself, leader of...”
“ChimeClan,” He did as he was told, and looked to the other cats gathered. “I am Windstar of ChimeClan. We’ve journeyed from beyond and set up camp by the foot of the mountains. We hope you’re willing to let us stay and… later, negotiate borders.”
“Indeed, these are the right cats,” The cat on the Echoing Stone nodded. “I, Dappledstar, leader of BugClan, welcome you all, ChimeClan.”
“As does NutClan.”
“And SpikeClan.” Bonestar grinned. “Come and take your place, Windstar.”
As the leader hauled himself up, the foreign cats cheered their clan name. Streakswan carefully joined the other healers, and Nightsplash bounded up to the other deputies. She sheepishly turned back when she realized those were a group of BugClan warriors who simply sat nearby.
Tumblr media
“We are now complete,” Halfstar flicked her tail as the halfmoon’s light shone down upon them. She slammed a paw on the rock beneath them, which gave a resounding ring. “Let the gathering begin!”
As Bonestar had described, the leaders spoke in order of the clan’s age: NutClan, BugClan, SpikeClan, and lastly, ChimeClan. All had reported a prosperous first halfmoon of Newleaf; Windstar couldn’t help but think that truly, StarClan led them to the right place.
“Now, onto border discussions,” Halfstar meowed. “I’m sure you’ve explored the land nearby your camp, correct?”
“Until the thunderpath, and until we detected another clan’s borders.” Windstar nodded. “We’d like to have a side of the river near the foot of the mountain, and a patch of the forest for herbs.”
Dappledstar hummed as she gathered her thoughts. “No.”
Before Windstar could negotiate further, the strange cat stared at him.
“Our StarClan likes to sit there. You can have the side farther down. Close to here.”
“That’s… Reasonable,” Windstar tried to suppress the shiver he felt. “Thank you.”
“The forest is far from your camp, and NutClan has many mouths to feed.” Halfstar said. “Our land is not worth your time.”
“With all due respect, Halfstar,” Streakswan meowed from below. “Only certain herbs grow in the forest.”
“No, we still need our territory. The forest around the Four Walls is neutral ground,” She said firmly. “And you have the land across the thunderpath. Just take from them.”
Windstar turned to Bonestar, who shook her head.
“We don’t have any forest to offer because of…”
“Like I said,” Halfstar narrowed her eyes at the she-cat. “We need our territory.”
“Oh, yes yes,” Bonestar lashed her tail. “Say that one more time, would you?”
“Well–”
“I understand and agree with these arrangements,” Windstar interrupted before they could bicker further. “We, ChimeClan, are grateful for your kindness.”
The leaders nodded, and Halfstar slammed a paw on the Echoing Stone again.
“The Gathering is over.” She yowled. “You are free to mingle until your leader says so.”
She jumped down and led her clan back to camp.
“They’re all a bit stubborn,” Streakswan whispered to Windstar as he landed next to the healer.
“It wouldn’t be wise to press further,” He meowed. He turned to look at his other clanmates; at least they were having fun.
Nightsplah had thrown herself into a conversation with the other deputies, while a friendly BugClan cat had a chat with Dancingtree. Badgerpaw was engaging the other apprentices with a tale from the journey; from his movements, Windstar guessed it was about the wolves.
“Any plans for the rest of the moon?” Bonestar sat beside the leader.
Hunting, gathering… Not to mention, the caves and land across the thunderpath hadn’t been explored yet.
“I suppose we’ll settle in,” He simply meowed. “Simply get some rest. We’ve been searching for a new home for too long.”
“I understand,” She nodded. “Back then, SpikeClan had done the same, too. We’ve been here for… 600 moons, give or take.”
“Honestly,” She continued. “It’s interesting to see a new clan form. I feel like I’m watching the old tales unfold in my time instead. And for that, you have SpikeClan’s full support!”
“Thank you, Bonestar,” He dipped his head, but he didn’t take her words to heart. While her excitement was clear, her intentions weren’t. “Do you know anything about the other clans?”
“Oh, NutClan has been here forever. That’s why they hate every new clan,” She said with an annoyed flick of her tail. “They’re so… Traditional.”
“My, watch your tongue, young one,” Dappledstar meowed. Her deputy was helping her down. “When BugClan was formed, NutClan welcomed us with open paws. They had no interest in taking the plains, and they once aided us with various herbs. Stories say that during the war–”
“Oh, yes yes. How noble of NutClan,” The she-cat replied dryly. “Well. Look at the time. We should get going.”
BugClan’s deputy narrowed his eyes, but seeing his leader unphased, he chose to say nothing. Dappledstar agreed that they will be leaving, too.
“We’ll do the same then,” Windstar meowed. “See you at the next Gathering.”

So somehow I managed to have my entire clan die out in ClanGen
on easy mode
most of the events happened at random in the New Events tab since i got quickly bored with the game on easy mode and just kept clicking the skip one month button
and honestly, now I really want to make it into a story, because holy fuck
so my clan was FrostClan, a clan founded by Spottedstar and a handful of other cats. one of them was Floodpaw, Spottedstar's own apprentice. Spottedstar was a responsible cat and a great teacher, but was not popular among clanmates, and as her previous deputies retired, Floodpaw, now Floodwater, remained the only cat Spottedstar trusted and respected enough to appoint her as the new deputy. Floodwater used to be a somewhat unpleasant apprentice, her shameless behavior making some clanmates uncomfortable, but as she matured, she became a honored, smart and responsible warrior who strictly sticks to the warrior code. however, after Spottedstar's passing due to failing to interpret a warning from StarClan, Floodstar soon turned into a tyrant. her ambition clouded her mind, she began to twist the code to justify trespassing and attacking other clans' warriors. anyone who disobeyed would get brutally punished.
eventually, Floodstar was the only one who remained. and for many months, she lived alone, accompanied only by the knowledge of what she has done. until a kittypet, Jaxxon, came along, and after hearing Floodstar's stories of clan life and the code, he wished to learn the clan ways and become the old leader's last apprentice. after Floodstar's death, he kept in mind what she told him about the clan's leader ceremonies, and for the first time ever he met StarClan. after emerging as Jaxxonstar, he decided to keep the clan's memory alive still, so that none of the starry warriors could fade. and when a young loner appeared and expressed interest in his stories, he decided to teach her the same way Floodstar taught him.
what followed was a long line of lone leaders and their apprentices, occasionally joined by a few more cats, but never enough to rebuild a clan. the nine lives ceased to be a means to allow the leader to serve their clan longer and to prevent assassinations, but as a means to ensure that the leader is kept alive long enough for a successor to appear, even years beyond a cat's natural lifespan. Jaxxonstar, Cheetahstar, Floodstar the Second, Calliestar, Sagestar, Longstar, Pansystar all lived to an ancient age in complete solitude, their only contact with others being their mentor, the StarClan cats at their leadership ceremony, and then eventually their apprentice, which was when they would lose their lives in rapid succession over the course of nine months. Bonestar was cursed to live for 44 years before finding abandoned twin kittens, one of which would succeed him as Henstar in adulthood, and their sister Elmheart would become the first medicine cat in decades, reviving the long lost art of healing. however, eventually old age would claim her too. Henstar appointed their apprentice Piperfur as heir, but on her way to claim her nine lives she died under mysterious circumstances, leaving her own apprentice Wildblink, who has just received her warrior name at Henstar's last ceremony, to claim the nine lives in her stead. Wildstar now guards the empty camp alone, waiting for a cat to take her own place
