I'm extremely late (which is very on brand😅), and attempting to cram 10 prompts into 2 days. Let's speedrun this! Okay so Episode 5 - Wildwood really exemplifies the theme of love as a narrative force. It also focuses on Jade’s story and the Bone Reavers. AND IT IS GORGEOUS.

Right from the opening punk music overlaid chase scene, episode 5 is a symphony of the show's artistic form. Also Time For Some Mayhem is a recap of the Bone Reavers history & could basically be Scorpia's theme song. (can this count for my soundtrack day if I'm not done on time🤘🏻)

Willow is an ensemble show, but the plot in WIldwood is propelled by Jade, a queer biracial girl finding family and joy in who she is! CONFRONTING HER FEARS. BEING SO BRAVE. We have characters from the culture we were introduced to as the dominant culture (Tir Asleen) actually being in the wrong! Cue a textpost of Kit being a disaster:

Wildwood establishes very clearly that character growth is happening before they go through the rest of the trials and tribulations of the quest.

To get really personal here, I had a near death experience as a kid and I just have this insatiable rage at narratives that present traumatic experiences as 'level up' character development like achievements. The forty some minutes we spend in the Wildwood, everyone grows (and gets a little high) in a safe healthy environment. This is like textbook good therapy practice. Leading to the moment we’ve all been waiting for…

THE TANTHAMORE ALMOST KISS!!!

Kit and Jade's love confessions are beautiful. Erin Kellyman said it best:

“Having not seen these shows when I was younger, now being able to be the representation that I didn’t have is something that is so peaceful,” she says. “I know that if I saw this when I was a kid, I would have been completely in love with Kit and Jade, and I would have felt a lot less isolated and scared and weird.” - Erin Kellyman (source)

The scenes leading up to the troll snatch were shot on a closed set because the director wanted Erin Kellyman and Ruby Cruz to be able to be completely comfortable in how vulnerable they were to film that moment between Jade and Kit. We see two characters who have loved each other consciously and unconsciously for years decide to completely go for it.

Wildwood has everything: A celebratory lens on the survival of oppressed peoples, sapphic love confessions, ERIN KELLYMAN, fluffy bonding between core characters, ERIN KELLYMAN SMILING (seriously she's literally so beautiful), great soundtrack, beautiful sets, world-building, ERIN KELLYMAN DANCING, and character development so breathtaking I cried. (Also might've cried about how pretty Erin Kellyman is)

For those wondering how I know about Jade dancing with the Bone Reavers, it's from this video (around 1:37 mark). I found it on this site back in February. It also gives a good look at how many people worked behind the scenes during production, so we can be even more angry about studios not giving a shit about people's work and artistry.

Absolutely happy that Warrior Nun rose from the dead. Great effort all around. (Really hope they bring back Shotgun Mary because I miss her energy.)

As this development bolsters my hope for Willow, there's work to be done. There's no secret that the Warrior Nun campaign got crazy attention and buy-in, and not just from queer folks - who led the charge.

Willow has the base to grow from the og fans who loved that campy ass film and love this show (it me!) and the young folks who fell in love with the whole Willow gang. That's a great loud and lovely base and it needs to be bigger and louder.

But how does one do that without the damn show! Warrior Nun grew because we had a whole season to rewatch, and then folks picked it up. And petty-ass Disney has taken the show off the platform. (Like f*ck them forever for that. Seriously.)

As always the fanfic and the art and the edits keep this whole thing going. Social media fans those flames. Keep up the word of mouth. Sign petitions and harass your friends. Also, harass Disney. Let's get Kasdan and the crew back on board.

Finally, to the youth, piracy is your friend! 🏴‍☠️ I still have all my burned dvds and cds from college. Yes, there are sites (with spamware, blerg), but torrenting is a good way to go. There are good torrent sites and programs like Utorrent.

Download the whole season. Put it on your drive. Share that drive. Burn it to a dvd. Maybe make copies and just hand them out. Whatever it takes. This show needs eyeballs! I truly believe that Disney et al are choosing to deplatform shows because of the WGA strike and residuals, however, the fact that the majority of the canceled/deplatformed shows are Queer-led, Black/POC led, and often have female leads or focused on women is no coincidence. (Male-centered queer shows are not only being renewed, but if they are canceled, they are easily finding new homes. NPH's show is a prime example.) So, yes, the data suggests that there is a bias against shows about queer/lesbian women and nb folks.

Anywho, mount up Team One Braincell aka Questies, and let's do the thing. Maybe Kasdan can stop his placating approach and get pissed off. It worked for Simon Barry, so who knows.

Like if all next season Jade is super worried about that ultimatum and Scorpia just decides “actually I like this little shit” and flips the script. Imagine the chaos those two could get up to

I have to say, after finishing the last episode, I need a Modern AU where Scorpia gets Jade guardianship after their father dies and some years along the line Boorman comes along as Scorpia's ex. He is back in town (he had to disappear for a while because "reasons" also known as some little thievery) and Boorman has to win Jade's trust if he wants to get back with her really cool older sister.

What can I say, I just want fluffy domestic time for this trio. I think they would make a really cute found household. The rest of the found family is around town, I'm sure of it XD

A Redditor on the Willow subreddit has pointed out that, during the Wildwood (1x05) dancing scene with Boorman and Scorpia, a light-skinned person with bushy blond hair is shown in the background dancing with a mug of ale and absolutely cherishing it. Unbelievable, fucking unbelievable. Willow has sadly been cancelled only after one season. It didn’t deserve this, and it’s so damn unfair. I said it once I will say it again, it wasn’t perfect but it was still amazing. It deserves the 2 other chapters that were teased at the end of episode 8. I have so many unanswered questions about the series and was super excited when I saw this scene. I know this maybe a long shot, but there are shows that have been canceled and saved by fans before and I hope and think we can do the same for Willow. This series deserves more than people are giving it.
