Willow Month Day 2 - Favourite Relationship: Jade Claymore and Kit Tanthalos

The way that the scene in episode 5 is identical to their body language and positioning in the episode 7 kiss, just unrestrained and unafraid is beautiful.

Lets dive in- Picture 1 Jade, arms down, stance that screams I'm trying to stand normal, the little hand/finger clenches and angling of her body showing how on edge she is. This is a girl who looks ready to run.

Kit, shoulders up to her ears, hands twisting together, anxious mess scooped up and poured into human form. She's tense and uncontrolled.

Picture 2 Jade, splayed out on her back hands up by her head- they end up tangled around Kit's waist, her face is open and relaxed. She went from angled to run to literally under Kit, egging her on. Jade isn't holding herself back or guarding herself from Kit.

Kit, forearms on Jade's chest, hands playing with her shirt. Her body is tensed but relaxed and notably, controlled. She's curled into Jade, pressing them closer and happily responding to Jade's cues after checking.

This is why I actually loved the decision not to have them kiss on screen until episode 7, the build up is awesome and it offers these cool bits of growth that they've achieved.



Also this bit at the end, before we transition to another scene Kit and Jade are given the space to be soft and loved.

Willow month: favourite scene

Ok because I don’t know how I am possibly supposed to choose a favourite scene in this show full to bursting with gorgeous moments, I’m gonna cheat on this one and do my top five favourite scenes:

1. Kit and Jade’s conversation here on the Shattered Sea. The the bond that has been there the whole time, but grown stronger across the quest; the growth and the trust

3. The “yesss the girls are finally getting on and Kit’s being a little shit in a fond way this time” which was the whole episode but this one had me grinning like a mad thing

4. Elora and Graydon’s little moments during the training montage. I loved all the scenes when Graydon starts training with Elora. Cuteness overload they are just too sweet

5. The Wildwood love confession scene. Do I really need to elaborate on this one?

5. Again: no elaboration needed. The gif speaks for itself

There are about a billion honourable mentions I could do because like I said, so many good scenes and so much good stuff I could write about all of them, but I started and the post got even more insanely long than it already is and I’m already cheating by doing five so

Willow Month 2023 Day 1: Favourite Character

JADE CLAYMORE

Damn it is so hard to choose in a show with so many amazing core characters but... Jade.

Jade's journey is about recognizing and allowing herself to be facets of who she is she didn't have an opportunity to really get to know; her heritage and her queerness/relationship with Kit.

Every time I see her I feel a lot better about the world. Also Jade pushed me become my childhood dream (a pirate 🏴‍☠️ 😜).

As someone who probably has a more Kit-like tendency to completely run from everything that I find difficult or scary, I love and respect Jade's groundedness and her willingness to just take what is. From going to Galladorne to train as a knight to telling Kit she doesn't care about who their fathers were to jumping off the edge of the world, Jade is loyal, secure, and dedicated. I know a lot of fandom focus goes into her dedication to Kit, which is definitely important to her, but what I think is so cool is that she isn't just making decisions out of dedication to one person.

I also just want to celebrate how Erin Kellyman set out to play a character that really represented her experiences, and Jade means so much to so many people. Representation matters.

Jade is the kind of character that brought me along on the emotional journey with her. Erin Kellyman did an amazing job with her role, I’m really grateful for the year (approx.) of work she and the entire cast and crew put in to make Willow possible and hopefully there will be more Jade Claymore in the future✌🏻
