he doesn't hug you too often himself. and if you were to initiate the hug he might tease you and say how you can't get enough of him, but he secretly loves it

he just feels so soft having you in his arms

he's a cinnamon bun. his cheeks tend to heat up even with the slightest bit of affection

i can also see him being into slow and passionate kisses if the moment is slightly more heated. he loves taking his time with these types of kisses, and it makes him feel closer to you

he prefers older kids to younger ones. any toddlers are babies are a nope, he can't deal with that. but early teens? that's better territory for him. he feels he can at least connect with them on some level and try and engage with them in a conversation

you will wake up together and just lie there with each other, talking for like 30 minutes about all sorts of nonsense

then he will drag himself out of bed to do his usual morning routine with like zero energy in him

it's actually quite funny to watch

as a way to unwind and calm down after a long day

there are times when you question if he will ever fully open up about himself and reveal things that are personal to him

he appreciates your patience so much. these things just take time and if you're willing to wait then it'll be worth it

similarly, he doesn't mind you being slow to be vulnerable with him. he doesn't expect much. all he is expecting, for now, is good companionship and a person that wants him to be himself

once he feels secure in that idea, then opening up to you is much more easier than he thought

yeosang is never angry

sure sometimes he gets a bit annoyed by something someone has said. or maybe he's getting frustrated at how bad he is in a video game

but true anger? that's a rare occurrence for him

if someone is rude to him, he tends to be more disheartened and sad emotions rather than aggressive ones

anger isn't really an underlying factor in yeosang's life

he just might not mention these things as much as others

but he is very good at remembering even the little details

the sparkle in your eyes when he gave you a surprise gift. the fits of laughter the two of you were in that one saturday night when you were drunk for no reason. the caring texts messages you sent to him when you knew he was having a bad week

there's no defining moment that sticks out to him because he realises that when interacting with you makes him all the more happier

i think the last occasion when he was protective was when you both went to a festival for a date, decided to go inside a haunted house, and he was holding you for the whole time

since he prefers more casual dates, like having the traditional movie night where each week you both take it in turns to choose a movie, you would think he doesn't put too much effort in

but you realise these casual dates mean a lot more to him than you would've originally thought. he doesn't feel he needs to make a special effort to have a good time with you because he's always having a good time with you

saying that, he is one to spontaneously spend a tone of money on you, getting you all kinds of expensive gifts, and not even for any particular occasion

he has no real, stand-out bad habits

sometimes his lack of communication is frustrating, mainly because in order for a relationship to fully work, you need to understand each other's wants and needs

which takes yeosang a bit of time to learn that

but if you're an open communicator from the get-go, i think it'll be much easier for him to follow suit

v = vanity (how concerned are they with their looks?)

he feels insecure at times, especially due to certain comments people have said about the way he looks

which is crazy because he looks so ethereal and angelic and perfect

but most of the time he's pretty contented with the way he looks anyway

w = whole (would they feel incomplete without you?)

at the early stages of the relationship, perhaps not

once he has become comfortable and started to build a strong sense of trust and connection with you, there is more of a feeling of loss when he finds himself without you

he does notice the little empty feeling he has when you're not there by his side

he's an amazing listener, and while verbalising his own feelings can be difficult, he seems to know his mind quite well, and therefore can use his empathy and understanding to help you

gives great, sound advice and gives his non-biased opinion

he really appreciates it when you do say what's on your mind or what's bothering you, because he does sense when you are upset and he doesn't want you to have to go through something by yourself

yeosang can tolerate a lot of things

considering he's quite mild-tempered and doesn't get angry too often, there are very few things he actually hates

but i think one thing he does dislike is when someone lacks basic respect

especially if he doesn't know them that well and he can't decide whether someone is teasing him when they are rude or whether they are just being an asshole

z = zzz (what is a sleep habit of theirs?)

he snores softly, its adorable

likes to be wrapped up in a fluffy blanket in the wintertime so he can be warm and cuddly

kind of a light sleeper. so if you were to cuddle into him in your sleep or move his hand out of the way, he will know about it there and then

The door to the cafe opens, the addicting aroma of coffee beans travels through the air and greets Kenma when he steps inside. He scans the room, finding the familiar figure of his longtime friend who was currently chatting the barista by the counter. He’s walking towards Kuroo and he could already hear excited laughter coming from the front.

When he enters the scene, the stranger directs their friendly gaze to him and the second that their eyes meet, Kenma feels he’s in the middle of a meet-cute of some romcom movie.

The first thing he notices is the way your eyes crinkle when you smile, the corners of your mouth turning upwards as you greet him. He hears your voice, but he couldn’t make out what you were saying—as if he was entranced by a spell, too busy to pay attention to anything else and finding it all too easy to become drawn to your aura.

Kuroo watches it all unfold before him: his best friend who was too stunned to do or say anything, and his other friend, you, who was too clueless to figure out their effect on him. He chuckles before putting his arm around Kenma, steering the situation to introduce you two to each other. Something about you was captivating and Kenma knows he’d be lying if he said that he wasn’t already bewitched by you.

As he stood in line with Kuroo, who was ordering the drinks they’d need for an all-nighter, his mind is occupied—thinking about how of all the things he’d expected to happen when he agreed to help out for a project, falling in love at first sight wasn’t on the list. You left a strong impression on him, and Kenma knows he wouldn’t be able to stop thinking of you in the days to come.

He encounters you for the second time when he attends a party organized by Kuroo’s college org. This wasn’t his usual scene, on a typical weekend, he’d much rather stay at home and catch up with either his studies and papers or his games. As he’s standing in the middle of the room, surrounded by loud and drunk college students, he considers going back to his dorm.

But the moment that he’s about to leave, he hears a familiar voice.

He stops in his tracks, because there you were—so full of life, so mesmerizing standing surrounded by different people. He could see a spotlight shining down on you, naturally attracting the attention of everyone in the room. He’s sure that this was the reason Kuroo had been persistent on getting him to go to the party (the boy spent days on end pestering him about it to the point that he had no other choice but to say yes).

Eventually, Kuroo finds him and they go around, with the former introducing Kenma to his classmates and acquaintances. The night draws on, and some time past midnight, he rests on the available seat on the couch. He takes deep breaths to calm himself before he spots your presence again in the corner of the room. It doesn’t surprise him that you were still full of energy and stories to tell your friends.

What surprises him is when your eyes meet his. His heart skips a beat when he sees that look of recognition and that knowing smile on your face. He watches as you apologize and leave the group, steadily making your way towards him and taking the empty space beside him.

You beam at him, “Hey.”

“Hello.”

“I remember you.” He watches you take a swig of the drink in your hand. “You’re Kuroo’s best friend, right?”

“Yeah. I’m surprised you do.”

“Who wouldn’t? I think you’re cute.” Kenma was flustered. Your words sending his mind into a spiral, struggling to form a coherent reply to your straightforward statement.

“I didn’t think I’d see you here. Figured this,” you wave your hands in the air exaggeratedly. “…might not be your cup of tea.”

“Well, I had no choice.”

“Oh, yeah? Tell me about it.” You scoot closer to him, knees almost touching at the reduced space between you two. “I want to get to know you, Kenma.”

Kenma couldn’t find it in himself to say no. And before he knew it, he’s openly sharing bits and pieces of his life. You ask him about his past with Kuroo and he’s eagerly taking you to a flashback of his childhood, narrating embarrassing moments (mostly of Kuroo) and he feels happy whenever you found it amusing.

You ask him about his interests, his hobbies, his pet peeves; he learns about you, the charming barista from the 24-hour cafe, a business management student who has too much bills and college loans to pay.

Every minute that passes, every minute he enjoys himself in your presence—with you, making him laugh like he had never before, lighting a spark in his heart and sending the butterflies in his stomach fluttering about, he finds himself falling head over heels for you.

For the weeks that passed after the party, people started noticing the two of you getting closer. The pair of you were inseparable. In breaks and lunches when it was only him and Kuroo, along with few of their friends, you’ve managed to sneak yourself in their social group, earning a permanent spot in their table right beside Kenma.

And often, the others would observe how his attention would solely be on you whenever you were present. It was a mystery to them, but also a source of amusement, how Kenma would become a different person—breaking out of his shell as he became more talkative and more teasing, exchanging playful banters from time to time.

But at the same time, there was something painful about watching the two of you as they become witnesses to the coming-to-life of a slow-burn romance.

And neither of you was admitting it: the push and pull, the undeniable tension that existed whenever the two of you were in the same room. The force of attraction was clear, and everyone had been wondering why neither you nor Kenma were making a move.

That all came to a head on a weekend when you visited him at his dorm.

“What are you doing here?” Kenma opens the door wider, giving you space to easily slip in his living area. His eyes follow you like a hawk as you settle your things on his floor, going from room to room and finally sitting down on his couch. You look at him excitedly, grinning from ear to ear as you wave him over to sit beside you.

“Movie night!” Kenma watches as you take out your laptop and a bag of his favorite snacks. “There’s a new crime thriller on Netflix and I figured we can binge it together.”

He throws you an incredulous look, “It’s 8 P.M. Shouldn’t you be at your dorms right now? Did you forget the curfew?”

“Oh, screw that!” You open the Macbook and place it on his center table. You cuddle to his side and Kenma instinctively adjusts, making you comfortable. He grabs the blanket that he’d taken out before you arrived and drapes it over the two of you. He studies you as you navigate the web, logging in to Netflix and pulling up the show you’ll watch for tonight.

“I can’t believe you would just appear in front of my doorstep and force me to watch this with you.”

You look at him playfully, “Don’t be such a killjoy.” Your gaze on him lingers for a second longer, the atmosphere shifting to something more intimate.

He clears his throat, quickly bringing his attention on the laptop screen. “Stop. Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Kenma.”

He tries his best to focus on the show. But he couldn’t, not when he feels your soft hand cupping his face, turning him so you could get a good look at him.

“I like you.”

His mind goes blank, but one thing was certain: he was elated, and his heart was currently doing a somersault inside him. So, when he tries to reply, all he could give was a shy smile and an, “Okay.”

And that was enough. Because for the time that you’ve known Kenma, you’ve learned that he has always preferred actions over words.

You hum and wrap your arms around him. He reciprocates by pulling you closer to him, until all you could hear was the erratic beating of his heart drowning out the loud sounds from the show.

The hours flew by just like that. It doesn’t occur that the both of you have fallen sound asleep, leaving the laptop on. When Kenma awakens, the words Are you still watching? are now flashing on the screen. He feels something heavy on top of him and his eyes drop to your figure laying on his body. He feels overwhelmed with contentedness at the moment.

Maybe your barging in his door and inviting him to watch Netflix wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

If somebody were to ask Kenma when he had been the happiest in his life, he’d gladly say it was every second, minute, and hour that he has spent by your side. The boy couldn’t ask for a more fun, supportive, and kind-hearted partner when he already has you. You have given him so much, made him feel so loved and special, that he often asks himself if there was anything he could do to repay you.

The past few months with you has been nothing short of amazing, with every single day feeling like literal heaven in your presence. And now, he’s counting down the days to your birthday which coincidentally also marks the six months of his relationship with you. It was on this special day that Kenma decides to surprise you.

One of the things that you and Kenma have in common is how you both prefer the simple things. Where others favored to go outside for dates, sleepovers and movie nights in either his or your dorm has always been the norm in the relationship. You also didn’t mind small gifts, not one for flowers and plushies, as you always told him that it is the thought that matters the most.

And he thinks about it now as he’s standing outside the same cafe where his paths crossed and connected with yours for the first time.

He goes over his plan one more time when the automatic door slides open, and he goes inside. He finds you entertaining a customer, and he admires how hardworking you have always been. He joins the queue, nerves flying through the roof as he patiently waits to reach the front of the line.

“Kenma!” A look of genuine surprise takes over you when you finally see him. “What are you doing here?”

He does something you never thought he’d do: placing his hands on the counter, he leans and plants a soft kiss on your lips.

“I love you,” he says out of the blue and it sends your mind in a frenzy, your heart fluttering. His words don’t even register anymore when he says his order and tells you, “Your shift ends in ten, right? I’ll wait for you and we can get something to celebrate your birthday.”

Kenma keeps his gaze at you as he waits for your shift to end. He sighs of relief when he sees you come out of the staff room and meets you halfway. He intertwines his hands with yours and guides you out of the shop. The sun is setting coloring the streets in red orange hues and everything right now looks like a painting.

You walk in silence, stopping by your favorite Chinese takeout shop to buy something to eat when you arrive at his dorm. He orders for the both of you, and when he’s done, you pull him to the side and finally ask the question that has been bugging you.

“You said you loved me back there, right?

He chuckles, “Yeah, I did.” Kenma tugs you closer, arms encircling your waist and resting his head on your shoulders. “Should I have not said it?”

“I was just surprised.”

“It’s nothing to be surprised for.” He leans to your ear and his voice low when he whispers, “I just said the truth. I have been falling in love with you since the first day we met.”

You feel warm when you realize that Kenma beat you to saying those three magical words in the relationship. But it was another thing when he reveals to you how he’s been taken with you since your first meeting. And right now, all you could do was to thank your lucky stars for bringing you to him.

You look at him, reaching a hand to outline his features before returning his kiss with one of your own.

“Thank you. And I love you too, more than you’ll ever know.”

At your words, Kenma falls for you over again and he decides he wouldn’t mind spending more seconds, hours, minutes, and days with you.

Feu’s March 2022 BL/GL Wrap-up

A First Love Story Part 1 and Part 2 were just so charming! They managed to get me to care about the characters and relationship in so little time. Also, if you liked the honorifics in Semantic Error, this one also plays with it just a bit.

General Thoughts: I didn't watch anything for the first few days of March because I was very much in a Bad Buddy fic reading/show rewatching/Ohmnanon mood. Glad I got my Bad Buddy fix out of the way before starting this because otherwise I would've 100% just been thinking bout how I'd rather be watching BBS. It started off very meh for me but got better as it went along because I was invested in the conflict between the friends, more than I thought I would be. None of the characters or storylines really captured me, so I doubt I'll be thinking of this again but it was a fine watch just for the sake of watching. I wish it had Korean subs on Viki though, seeing as Korean practice was my main reason for watching and I hardly got that lol

General Thoughts: I knew people liked it and then really disliked it because the ending was messy and... yeah. Utter nonsense, nothing makes sense. Made me miss Bad Buddy where the characters are fully realized and stays true to themselves and although not every single loose thread is always tied up or followed through with, there was nothing so glaring. General Thoughts: Created by some university students, so it has a certain amateur charm to it. I liked hearing Bol4 playing in the cafe lol. Well done on the second-hand embarrassment scene, it was awkward and embarrassing without being over the top. I hope the cheerful server girl lives the best life and also has a girlfriend, she’s so endearing. Anyway, cute concept, endearing story, made use of its short runtime; won’t leave any impact on me though and I didn’t really expect it to.

General Thoughts: Probably the best of what I’ve watched this month thus far but that isn’t saying much at all. I keep watching these bad-mediocre shows hoping for Korean practice but I’m barely getting much practice I feel like lol. Unique premise, wish they’d actually solved the mystery they set up from the very beginning, didn’t like Yoo Han the love interest’s acting and so the romance felt stilted as well, liked the main character Yeon Woo. Probably gonna read a summary and some opinions on Colour Rush Season 2 but not actually watch it.

General Thoughts: This was supposed to be just thoughts but turned into a full reaction thing lol.

I don’t really watch old shows or movies (especially not queer ones... sad endings galore), so this was new for me. Had to search up whether this had a happy ending beforehand.

Many BLs fall into either: choose to not focus on homophobia at all or have a very homophobic family as an obstacle. This one is interesting because it is definitely set in a homophobic society and they have to navigate that but it’s not a tragic story due to it; there’s still hope and happiness in the midst of all the homophobia. It kind of reminds me of Aof’s works like He’s Coming to Me or Dark Blue Kiss, where homophobia is a thing but we get to see happiness and acceptance in that.

The lady from the bus glancing away because she’s realized Seok Yi likes men was heartbreaking but it was followed by the funny scene with them lying down with the mom with face masks on; I liked the juxtaposition and the tone shift was natural.

How are they so daring?! Minsu kissing Seok Yi’s cheek while his mom is sleeping literally 2 feet away, they have Me stressed. Scratch that, Minsu’s unbuttoning Seok Yi’s shirt ??!?!?! And tryna give each other handies??!?! Where are your self-preservation skills. Anyway, at least they didn’t get found out there.

It’s funny how incredibly tame and chaste the recent kBL webdramas are but then you have this 30 minute thing or Long Time No See which are quite explicit? Like this is startlingly explicit, I wasn’t expecting it

This song to his mom... everything to me. The apology for being this way and disappointing his mom but still being like well, even though I’m sorry, I’ll still continue to like men. It’s not like the “well, idgaf what you say or who you are i’ll cut you off and live my life” because I can’t identify with that nor want that but rather a quieter defiance where it’s like “I know this isn’t what you wanted from me and I’m sorry but I’ll continue to be me” that I wish I was more like.

Anyway, this turned out quite long but all in all, quite enjoyed it. Very much wish I could see it in with better quality because this was like watching it through a potato; alas, I can’t afford that right now.

Then the Rokhee/Jina storyline, though we didn’t get to see much of their interactions in this cut. Anyway in my head they’re all sapphic and have feelings for each other.

That Yuna isn’t madly in love with Nari and hasn’t been for years? asldkfjaslkdfj I’ve sat through so many m/m and m/f shows with the controlling, toxic male pursuer ummmmm what about this codependent, controlling female pursuer huh ! lmao

General Thoughts: Thoroughly enjoyed it! Very strong characterization for the two main characters, as well as Yuna (love that she’s sapphic) and Ji Hye. The progression of the story and Sang Woo and Jae Young's relationship made sense. The acting was good, as well. It was clear that the creators had talent, budget and thought all poured into this project. Episode 7 was my favourite; wish the last episode didn’t have 20 minutes of unnecessary angst and separation so that we could enjoy them together instead but oh, well, I guess. Tied with Light On Me for favourite kBL and definitely one of my favourite BLs in general. Would love a season 2 but it’d be like 2+ years later if it ever happens and who knows if I’d even be this into watching shows then since I flit from fandom to fandom.

A First Love Story

General Thoughts: A bit nervous starting this because I enjoyed Semantic Error so much and obviously the budget and team behind that one is so much bigger than this short but this short and sweet thing definitely held its own. Very charming.

Pt 1: As I’ve mentioned many times in the Semantic Error Live Blogging post, I am but a lover of honorifics and formalities, so Min Gyu calling Jae Sung hyung constantly and then the consequences of calling him ya! once is very great and lovely to me. Min Gyu calls him hyung but uses the lowest form of formality (no -yo endings) and I think that’s how most friends speak (from my kpop knowledge lol) so it was interesting that in Semantic Error Sang Woo kept the -yo endings with Jae Young even when they were dating. Anyway, it was so cute T.T I understood about 75% because I was watching with korean subs and then switching to french subs if I didn’t understand but I’ll rewatch with eng subs after watching pt 2 to better understand.

Pt 2: I understood like only 40% of the stuff being said since I didn’t get to pause to understand the meaning because I wanted to finish watching before a meeting lol but regardless it’s just so Cute !! and endearing !! I love established relationships and ease and comfort and teasing and long standing friendships and just T.T The teasing during the intimate scene was also very endearing. Time to rewatch with English subs!

Overall, it’s so short (less than 15 minutes total) but I’m impressed by how they’ve managed to create the story, characters and relationship around the time constraints.

Note: I’d been planning to watch Not Me after finishing Semantic Error but I just don’t think I can? First of all, it’s 14 episodes and if I’m not able to limit myself to 1-2 episodes a day, I’ll be screwed since I have so many school deadlines. Second, I don’t think I can follow up a really good BL with another what I’m hoping is a really good BL lol. After Bad Buddy, I watched many kinda bad - mediocre - good BLs and when I finally watched Semantic Error (a great BL), I could actually get attached to the story and characters because I wasn’t hung up on Bad Buddy or Pat/Pran. So I guess... I’ll get a few more shorter, possibly mediocre, shows off my backlist before I try Not Me? I’m just impressed by the fact that I haven’t really been spoiled for Not Me yet beyond just knowing some basic plot points, so I hope that continues even after the last episode is out.

General Thoughts: Very mediocre, which I expected but it started out more endearing than I thought (+ I saw a gifset of the ending scene so in my head it was OT3 from the start, + someone ranked it 2nd favourite kBL), so I was hoping I would like it more. If a show is mostly slice of life, you have to care about the characters but I didn't care. If it's high concept, the plot and narrative have to be strong but they weren't. Also, I wish they had fewer crying/emotional scenes because I don't think any of the actors can naturally pull it off. Nothing was terribly wrong but nothing was very good, either. Doubt I'll think about this again.

General Thoughts: Did not enjoy it until I did, lol. I wish the first 4 episodes didn’t have so much noncon/dubcon from Tharn to Type but I went into it knowing that it well, so I just skipped a lot of it. I also thought everything was so awkward at first but the interactions between Tharn and Type did gradually get better and were cute at time as the show progressed and they started dating. I wish the actors were better at acting because there were so many heavy, emotional, intense scenes.

Don’t think I’ll watch Season 2 because people don’t tend to like it but will watch the specials.

General Thoughts: The writing and timeline and flow of scenes were weird. Weak in terms of coherency. I liked the acting enough and thought the honesty and earnestness of the story pulled through even though the writing had other weak points. Paper and Tong Fah started off fairly strong for me with the best friend dynamics, the tenderness, the heartbreak of rejection but then got very meh and boring once Tong Fah landed in the hospital. Chris and Jeno started off cute enough for me but then I started really liking them. The effects of Jeno being hounded by his abusive ex has on his general life (learning Muay Thai) and his outlook on relationships (not wanting to be hurt again, not wanting anything public) were briefly touched upon and I enjoyed that. Overall, I wasn't ever super invested but it wasn't like totally boring; it had weaknesses but strengths as well.

General Thoughts: I really liked it at the beginning (I liked Kaeng, I liked that they both slept around, I liked that the nsfw scenes weren’t awkward, I liked their chemistry/ease) but they dragged out the love triangle for too long. Puth and Puya had more cute moments than Kaeng and Puth did because KaengPuth mostly just had sexy moments. Them having nsfw scenes is fine because they started off being fuck buddies, after all, but the show didn't spend time developing their relationship outside of sex, so it falls a little flat. They definitely shouldn't have had Puth dating Puya for this long.
