What’s prime grid
So a hobby of number fans and mathematicians alike is looking for big prime numbers. Because if you find one, you’ll have a small dose of fame (and sometimes prize money). Of course, the prime numbers we know of are so large that you can’t feasibly check them all by hand anymore, so you have to get computers to run them.
There are two competing projects to find big prime numbers: GIMPS and PrimeGrid. GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search) is dedicated to finding bigger and bigger Mersenne Primes (2^n -1), because Mersenne primes are really easy to check—their sieve is really simple for binary computers.
PrimeGrid runs a bunch of other sieves looking for different kinds of prime numbers, like 321 primes (3*2^n ±1), Proth Primes (k*2^n +1), Cullen/Woodall Primes (n*2^n ±1), Generalized Fermat Primes (b^2^n +1), and more. These aren’t necessarily going to be the biggest, but they are mathematically interesting for other reasons. For example, there’s an attempt to solve the Sierpiński problem (is 78557 the smallest k for which no Proth Primes exist?), called “Seventeen or Bust” (because there were 17 candidates when they started), which had found the 7th largest prime number (since dropped down to 11th place) by eliminating one of those candidates (there are now only 5 candidates). Of course, you can try to find the biggest prime number with their “Do you feel lucky? project (“a real long shot. It borders on stupidity”).
Both of these you can run in the background on your computer, donating your excess computing power to advancing mathematics. GIMPS is its own standalone program. PrimeGrid runs thru BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing), which you may know from Einstein@Home, Rosetta@home, or World Community Grid.

SETI@Home may be in hibernation right now, but there are also OTHER projects you can lend your CPUs and GPUs to if you download BOINC!
It'll spend your computer's (or even phone, if you install it there) idle time helping whatever projects you pick! You can even help the Large Hadron Collider do compute tasks via LHC@home:
With NASA announcing their streaming service NASA+ and also announcing it’s going to be free and also ad free, I’d just like to appreciate the lengths they go to make scientific knowledge and exploration as available as they possibly can.

:O I found out I'm on the top 100 Leading Contributors to Science United, which for those of you who dont know is a volunteer program (called Boinc) you install to run science programs on your computer (cpu/gpu) when you're not using it. So research studies that cant afford to rent super computers borrow a bunch of other peoples computers processing power.
so, like, since I'm not rendering jewelry *all day* I have most of my GPU doing like physics problems or something i dunno, but I'm in the top 100 of people :3
I think originally heard about this from Neil deGrasse Tyson? On his podcast Startalk he talked about having his computers running Boinc to search SETI signals for aliens. When that program concluded I signed up for other ones.

I just added NumberFields@home to my BOINC projects.  This is a research project that uses the idle time of Internet-connected computers to do research in number theory.  Also involved in five other ones.  It's easy and helps science.  Check out BOINC.

Ah fuck I gotta start running PrimeGrid again so I can find arbitrarily large primes for Zimone
Due to Zimone, All-Questioning, a game win can now be decided by if an arbitrary number is prime. Magic players, when they go infinite, like to name large numbers. Was there any concerns about how these two facts might intercept in tournament play?
Nope. Playing Zimone, know your prime numbers.

Hey! For comic reasons does anyone have any fucking clue what Schedar is even wearing? Or like, any suggestions for the NPCs clothing, like Rigel, Cas, Giana? We only get headshots and that's fine for the game, but I want more so shoot me with ideas please!

anyways im so obsessed with describing myself using the framework of "im like if [blank] was [blank]." I'm like if an animal was epic. I'm like if a freak was normal. I'm like if a cicada was a prophet. I'm like if a thing built by a high school robotics team had to answer phone calls. I'm like if cane's jawbone was a person
