Another thought: while I am, admittedly, arrogant and full of myself, I'm not so massively narcissistic as to assume that I know better than every expert in the world on the subject of health and, specifically, obesity.

What kind of obscenely overinflated ego do you need to have in order to believe that you, a lone fat activist with most likely only a bachelor's degree at most, have a better understanding of medicine, epidemiology, and statistics than the entire scientific establishment of the world, from the World Heath Organization, to the CDC, to the NHS, to, well, every other major health organization that exists?

I mean, seriously. That requires a degree of egotistical, conceited, self-centered arrogance that even I can't begin to contemplate.

What I love most about this outfit is the fact that it combines my past with my present. For one, I have amassed a huge collection of turtlenecks and knit sweaters because of my teenage-want/need to be as covered as possible. When I began my #bodypositivejourney I took time to make some changes with my closet and I struggled with the idea of getting rid of any of them. It took a while to realize that although I once used thsese tops to hide my body, I could now use them to create polished, chic and refined looks unlike what I did before, even going so far as to incorporate prints into a once very monochromatic wardrobe. Friendly reminder that kids need access to good school lunches because it will provide them with needed nutrients and will help their performance and overall health, NOT because it will “prevent obesity”. We are allowed to be angry about Trump rolling back school lunch regulations without being fatphobic and without body shaming.

Healthy eating should be for actual health, not for trying to attain a single body type.

I’ll believe that 2/3rds of Americans are overweight or obese when they either stop using the BMI to create those stats or go back to considering 27 as the cutoff for a “normal” BMI like they did before diet culture realized that they could get millions of more women to buy into their bullshit. But even if I believe it I won’t care. There’s nothing wrong with having a body that’s not thin. End of.

I was wrong. This is peak fat activist stupidity.

It may not be the only option, but it’s the goal diet culture wants to achieve and it works. Millions of Americans pay money for diet programs when none of them work. None of them are designed to work, because they wouldn’t make as much money if we all got thin and didn’t need to give them money anymore.

In this we agree, lots of “diets” don’t work.  

However, eating less always does, and costs nothing.

BMI is bullshit though. Height-to-weight ratio is irrelevant, body composition is far more important and relevant to a persons health

Bmi is obnoxiously poor, but if you don’t exercise it isn’t as bad as some of y'all want to say it is.
