Comforting Bobby green about his brother
Thank you
Short one, I hope you have a lovely day
Hurting
*English is not my first language
*Triggers: talking about death, grief, sadness, swearing
Y/N POV
It was awful when we heard the news, His brother was shot at a drive thru. "My brother!" He cried out as they called him to tell him the terrible news. I was there for him, holding him as he broke down in my arms. "I've got you honey." I held him close as he cried into my arms.
The days later were worst. He was not himself anymore, he wanted to fight the whole world and his world stopped once again as his other brother got shot as well but he survived the shooting.
"I don't understand why." He says as he was sitting outside in our small garden. "Me neither honey." I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed his shoulders. "I need to do this for my family, for him." I nodded and lay my head down on his right shoulder. "I know, I'm here to support you." I rubbed his arm and he turned his head to look at me. "I love you, you know that right?" I nodded and gave him a soft kiss on his lips. "I know you love me, I love you too." He smiles and pulls me over to his lap. "I'll always protect you baby." He wrapped his arms around my chest en pulled me into his warm embrace. "I know you will." I leaned back against his chest and closed my eyes. "Thank you for being here with me, I'll pay you back baby." I grabbed his arm and gently squeezed in them. "No need to do that honey...You already do so much for me." I felt him smiling against the back of my head. "I'll give you more, I promise."

bigger than the whole sky
pairing: luke patterson x fem!reader
summary: you get a haunting call before your boyfriend’s big performance
warnings: pure sadness
a/n: there’s a severe lack of luke imagines here and i’m hoping to change that lmao
“you’re gonna come see me perform, right ?” luke asks as he laid beside you
you turn to him with a smile, “duh. what kind of girlfriend would i be ?”
“i just wanna make sure.” he chuckles, “it’s the orpheum, baby. it’s a huge deal.”
“i know.” you say sitting up on your arm, leaning over him. “i’m so proud of you.”
instead of responding, he pulls you by your waist to straddle him. you lay your hands on his chest to hold yourself up.
“this is gonna change everything.” he says, “the guys and i are gonna make it big. touring all over the world. it’s gonna be awesome.”
“i hope i’m in there somewhere.” you joke
“of course you are.” he says squeezing your thigh, “i wouldn’t have made it this far without you.”
you giggle, “that’s sweet, but we both know it’s because of how insanely talented you are.”
“i’m serious.” he smiles before his face softens, “you’re the only thing that keeps me going.”
you look between his green eyes before leaning down and planting a soft kiss to his lips. he accepts gratefully before you pull away. you instantly nuzzle your head into his neck. he wraps his arms around your shoulders as you sigh.
“i love you.” you mumble
luke smiles, “i love you more”.
•••
you were getting ready for luke’s performance when you got the call from bobby. he was frantic as he spoke to you. you could barely catch what he said, but what you did know was that something happened to luke, reggie, and alex.
that was enough for you to run out the door and rush to the orpheum. as you pulled up, you could see the haunting red and blue lights. you quickly parked before getting out and rushing over.
you hadn’t even registered the officers standing around. one of them puts their arms out as you walk up.
“i’m sorry, ma’am. you can’t pass.”
“my boyfriend is over there. i need to make sure he’s okay.” you say
“i’m sorry.”
“please.” you try
“y/n !”
you turn to see bobby walking over. you meet him halfway urging him to let you know what happened.
“they went to get some hot dogs and i guess they weren’t good.” he says. you furrows your brows.
“well, are they okay ? they won’t tell me anything.” you ask
bobby’s eyes sadden more if that were even possible, “y/n/n..”
“what ?” you say softly. you turn back toward the ambulance and that’s when your heart drops. you could see EMTs rolling three gurneys over toward three different ambulances. all of them covered with black bags.
“no.” you say, “no. no. no.”
“y/n.” bobby says as you try rushing over again.
“ma’am, you can’t.” the officer says as she puts her hands out.
“my boyfriend was in this accident. i need to know if he’s okay. please tell me that he’s okay.” you plead
the officer’s eyes soften as she watches you. your eyes begin to water as you watch her face. “i’m sorry, ma’am.”
you shake your head, “no. no, please. luke ! luke !” you call out as the officer holds you back. bobby runs over grabbing you and pulling you back. you thrash in his arms as you get further away. “stop. no !”
“y/n/n, please.” bobby says
“no.” you cry, “luke !”
you knees give out under you sending you falling to the ground. bobby bends down beside you as you sob. his arms wrapped around you as you lean forward.
“no !” you scream, “luke !”
tears brim bobby’s eyes as he watches you. trying his best to comfort you seeing as he had also lost three of his best friends.
you felt like you couldn’t breathe. the boy you’ve loved for years is gone. he was just in your arms talking about your future hours before. holding you, kissing you, and looking at you like you were the only person to ever exist.
and now he was gone.

Bunker in White
Danny Phantom x Supernatural Crossover
Masterpost
DP Crossover Angst Week Day 1 - GIW Experimentation
Summary: Sam and Dean take up a job to go investigate a government base that had been attacked by vampires.
Warnings: vague descriptions of blood and gore
Notes: hmmm, I have never written anything for Supernatural before, but I've seen a good portion of it (years ago). Probably takes place earlier in the show.
Word Count: 2044
AO3 Link
Sam and Dean had gotten this particular lead from Bobby, who in turn got it passed onto him from someone else, so it wasn’t a surprise this particular job was a mess.
Apparently, a group of vampire’s had decided a weird, underground, government bunker would be the perfect hideout, resulting in a bloodbath between the government goons and the vamps. It was a large group too, which was a point of concern among the hunter’s who turned down the job. No one really knew who’d won inside between the vampires and the government, but Dean had placed his money on the vampires. He honestly doubted that some government agency with an obsession for the color white had any idea what they were up against, much less the correct tools for the job. Dean got proved wrong when they came across the first dead vampire.
The bunker’s fluorescent lights were harsh against the darkness outside. The entire base still seemed to have power despite not being connected to any sort of power grid or system. It had made it an absolute pain in the ass to find, but at least that meant Sam and Dean didn’t have to wander around in the dark. The harsh lighting and bleached interior revealed a slaughter inside, staining the white walls with both vampire and human blood, leaving very little to imagination. The humans, all agents in once-white suits, looked to have been mauled by the vamps, while the dead vampires had holes blasted through them and were covered in green-tinged burns. Dean kicked one, trying to make sure it was actually dead. Yep, dead vamp, the whole place unfortunately smelled like it too.
Sam had found one of the more physically intact agents with a large bazooka-like weapon next to him at the back of the hallway. Rummaging through the agency's pocket’s Sam tossed the ID card over for Dean to read over, while Sam picked up the weapon.
Dean flipped open the wallet, and huffed when the agent was only referred to by a letter and position. No personal information whatsoever.
“This asshole is apparently ‘Agent B, senior heavy weapon specialist of the Ghost Investigation Ward’, which means shit to me,” Dean complained.
“‘Ghost Investigation Ward’? Is that supposed to be some sort of knockoff hunter’s group? Because points for vampire killing, less points for dying,” Sam added. “Either way, they were messing around with something supernatural, and had weapons that could blast straight through a vampire. Think we could find something here?”
Dean shrugged, “I’m down to take their weapons at the least. New tactics are always appreciated.”
Sam took the bazooka, and Dean picked up any other weapons of interest, from weighted nets, to more guns, storing them in piles to collect and ferry to the car later. The ID got them access to a couple more rooms, including a security camera and file room, which Sam said he was going back to later. The deeper they descended into the base, the more spaced out the bodies were, and the more violently the agents had seemed to fight, like they were protecting something.
“Do you think they actually managed to catch a ghost here?” Sam tossed out.
Dean snorted, “Doubt it. Sure, you can blast a hole through a vamp, but you can’t blast a hole through a ghost. Just trapping one is a pain, let alone moving it to the middle of bumfuck nowhere, Illinois.”
Hydraulic doors hissed as the brothers entered the next level, only to pause from the sudden change in pattern. This one opened up into a laboratory, partitioned off by thick glass walls, rather than the collection of offices and storage the upper floors had been.
Dean’s eyes narrowed at the carnage inside the laboratories.
“What the hell were they taking apart that bleed fucking green?” Dean cursed.
Dean completely ignored the bodies of who he assumed had been the scientists. There were tons of vials of various liquids, most of them being that same saturated, radioactive green. There were also jars, lots of jars, of what he assumed were the bits and pieces of whatever creature bled green.
“Doesn’t look like whatever they were dissecting was dead while they were taking apart,” Sam commented, pointing out the restraints on the bloodied autopsy table.
“Fuck, that’s sick. At least kill whatever you're taking apart first.”
Dean watched as Sam went over to a stack of papers, filing through them quickly with a grimace on his face.
“Well, they seem to believe they caught a ghost, at least. They definitely caught something before the vampires wiped them out. The reports refer to it as Subject P-1.”
“Think it’s still here?” Dean asked.
“Maybe. This report is a few days old, and we know the vampires attacked within that same time frame, so it’s possible that ‘P-1’ is either still here, dead here, or managed to escape in the crossfire,” Sam guessed.
“I suppose we’ll find out. We only got one more level to go.”
Dean left the lab, going down the elevator to the last level. There was nothing there, except for a singular glass cell with what looked like a blast door as its entrance, all shining with some sort of green energy. There seemed to be automated weapons and cameras all pointing at the cell, and Dean considered it a bit extreme. But also down there was the biggest collection of dead vampires they had found so far.
The weapons in the room had obviously activated for whatever reason, considering the number of vampires with holes blown through them compared to the agents, of which there only seemed to be two, who looked more like they had also been caught in the crossfire of the weapons, rather than becoming vampire food like most of the guys upstairs.
“Dean…” Sam shoved him, and pointed to the cell. There was…something inside.
Dean walked over, shoving bodies out of the way with his foot to stand in front of the cell. The green… whatever it was, shone along the glass and hummed with energy, reminding Dean vaguely of an electrified fence. The inside of the cell was a mess but in a different way than outside. It reminded Dean of a few of the cells he had seen monsters hold people in before. It was dirty, and covered in blood, both red and that unknown green. There was no cot, or toilet, or any other sort of accommodation.
The only thing in the cell was a small figure, dressed in nothing but tattered scrubs, and covered in its own blood balled up in the corner, head between its legs. Dean could only make out pale, emancipated legs and feet, and a mess of matted, black hair.
“Is it alive?” Dean asked, tapping on the glass, which surprisingly didn’t zapped him.
Sam had a grimace on his face. “I…think.”
“Hey!” Dean shouted.
No reaction.
Dean pounded more heavily on the glass with his fist, “Hey! Are you alive?”
No reaction.
“Are you P-1?” Sam asked instead.
This got a reaction. The figure picked up their head, placing empty, hollow, and frighteningly blue eyes on Sam. They seemed to be a young boy, face pale and thin, deep bags under his eyes. His eyes were glassy and distant, looking through Sam rather than at him.
“Well, that’s unnerving,” Dean muttered, giving Sam a look before shoving his shoulder. “Tell him to do something else.”
Sam frowned, thinking for a moment before saying anything. “P-1, state your status,” Sam commanded.
The boy, P-1, remained silent.
“I don’t think it talks, Sammy,” Dean snorted.
Sam sputtered indignantly. “What do you want me to do then? We know he’s P-1 now, and that he’s still somehow alive.”
“Well, we know he ain’t human, and that he’s whatever these goons have been picking apart. No clue what he is, but in that state, I doubt he can do much. The lights are one but no one seems to be home, Sammy,” Dean said.
It was a harsh suggestion but, “We could just put him down and be done with it. The vamps are all dead, there’s nothing here except braindead P-1 over there.”
Sam, apparently, very much disagreed with that idea. “He’s a kid, Dean! And he’s been tortured for who knows how long. We’re not putting him down!”
Dean groaned. “Do you want to take him with us or something?!” Dean asked incredulously.
Sam was silent, apparently thinking over the idea like it was a legitimate suggestion.
“No,” Dean immediately denied. “Nope, no way, Sammy. We’re not adopting whatever-the-fuck that kid is. He’s not a dog. We have no idea what he’s capable of, let alone if he’s dangerous!”
“Then we keep an eye on him! You said it yourself, in that state, I doubt he can barely move. We could even put him in Bobby’s panic room if he acts up, but honestly,” Sam glanced over to the boy, “I doubt he would even notice.”
Dean hated the idea. He didn’t want the kid to potentially go ballistic, and there had to be some reason he was locked up in the first place. But he couldn’t think of any other reasons to leave the kid there. If anything, they could figure out what the kid was so that they knew how to defeat anything like him in the future.
“Fine!” Dean relented. “But you’re taking care of him.”
Sam seemed to untense and turned back to the boy. “P-1, move to the door,” he ordered, before more quietly adding, “We’re getting you out of here, kid.”
The boy stood up, swaying on his legs, before approaching the door, standing just outside of it. Dean watched as Sam fidgeted with the door, before eventually having to pull another ID from one of the nearby agents to get the door open. Sam led the kid out, who didn’t have much of a reaction at all. Dean frowned at how small the kid was, now that he could get a better estimate literally standing next to him. He couldn’t be older than 12.
“Okay, we’re leaving. We got some cool things and you’ve adopted a weird kid. We can confirm the vampires all died here too. Anything else we need to grab before we go back?” Dean huffed.
“I’m going to see what I can pull from the record room on the way back. Could you take him back to the car?” Sam asked.
Dean looked at the kid again. Yep. No one home at all. He doubted the kid even knew what was going on. At least he wouldn’t complain about Dean’s music choices.
“Fine, but you take too long and I’m leaving your ass here,” Dean stated. “Come-on, P-1.”
Dean took the elevator back up the entrance, still careful to check around if they had missed anything still-alive, only to have silence. The kid barely made any noise as he moved, Dean decided he didn’t like that after the third time he jumped at the kid standing directly behind him.
“I’m getting you a bell,” he grumbled.
Back at the car, Dean tossed his looted weapons into the trunk, glancing at the kid before rummaging into his and Sam’s duffles for some spare clothes. It looked really suspicious to have a bloodied kid in a medical gown walking around. It would be oversized, but Dean grabbed a flannel, jeans, and a belt. Bobby would probably have something from when he and Sam were that small.
“Hey, kid, P-1, put these on,” Dean held the clothes out to the kid, who didn’t react.
Dean groaned. “Oh come on! This is why Sam’s your caretaker. I don’t know how to dress a kid!”
Dean approached. “Gotta fucking command him like a dog,” he muttered. “P-1, arms up.”
The boy raised his arms, and Dean untied the medical gown letting it fall to the ground. Dean froze, bile building in the back of his throat, fighting the urge to throw up. Images of the jars and vials passed behind his eyes. No wonder the kid was mentally gone, Dean couldn’t see anyone surviving, let alone living long enough to walk out.
God, they needed to get the kid to Bobby.

Assortment of Astarion headcanons I've posted over the months in one post:
(spawn default)
- Moon Elf.
- Used to have green eyes with gold flecks.
- Pre vampirism used to be on the same moral level as S1 Bobby Briggs. I will not elaborate. Twin Peaks good.
- Was forced into being a magistrate at a young age because he was a shithead. Was negligent as hell, didn't care about his job. Passed rulings without reading them. Let some of them be decided via coin toss. Was literally the worst. Imagine the Fist affected by the Hag's curse except unironically.
- Post campaign ends up having a stance of "my family already grieved me, so seeking them out won't do good."
- Can embroider and mend clothes, but isn't a tailor and can't make a garment from scratch. He will complain.
- Actually finds most paintings/art completely godawful. Has developed a distaste for fancy rich people decor after 200 years of Cazador's manor. Prefers his abode to be a crows nest filled with stolen trinkets. Many stolen from rich people. Look. It makes sense! It's fine if it's ironic decoration and he did a nasty deed to get it.
- Taste wise, prefers cheap wine over the really expensive shit. No one has the heart to tell him that the one he likes more is the cheap wine.
- The flavor text on his epilogue clothes (The leather is cheap and the decorations are painted on, but the garment is very well loved) sums a lot of him up.
- Prefers bows over daggers.
- The thing people with ADHD do with mugs except with jars of blood on his desk. You know what I mean. Put those mugs away.

Masterlist
The thought of your dad dying had always lingered over your head. Every time he missed a check in a voice in the back of your head screamed that it had finally happened. That John Winchester had made a fatal mistake and been killed by whatever he’d been hunting.
Dean had always assured you that it could never happen. But no matter what your older brother said the thought always lingered. Though in all the scenarios you’d imagined, you’d never imagined it happening like this. You’d never thought he would make a deal with a demon.
It had been a few days since Dean had been discharged and the three of you had decided to go up to Bobbys. None of you had really spoken about what had happened in the hospital. Dean had spent his time working on the Impala and you had locked yourself away in one of the guest's rooms.
You felt as if you were in a state of shock. You and your dad hadn’t always seen eye to eye but as you lay staring at the ceiling you couldn’t help but replay every memory of him you had. As you lay there you could feel tears pooling in the corners of your eyes.
Your dad was dead and you never even got to say goodbye. John Winchester was by no means a perfect man, but he was your father and you loved him all the same.
A knock on your door had you quickly wiping your eyes before sitting up. “Co-come in.”
The door squeeked as it opened and Sam’s head appeared. His eyes looked red as if he’d also been crying and you frowned. “Sam? What’s wrong?” You asked your younger brother.
He didn't say anything as he shuffled into your room before lying down beside you. He was quiet for a moment before he spoke. “The last thing we did was argue y/n. He probably died thinking that I hated him or something” He sniffled slightly looking at you with teary eyes. Guilt had been eating Sam alive for the past few days. He’d never gotten to properly apologise and now he would never have the chance.
You sighed before beginning to run a hand through his hair. “Sam. He knows you didn’t hate him. Trust me.” You smiled softly at him. “I know he never said it but deep down he was so proud of you.”
Sam hummed softly and leaned further into your chest.
“She’s telling the truth, Sammy.” Another voice chimed in. You felt the bed dip as Dean sat behind you. Sam kept quiet but you felt him relax slightly at Deans's words.
Your brothers were all you had now. You felt Dean lie down beside you and you shifted slightly so you could see him. He rubbed a hand up your arm as he looked at your younger brother.
After a while, Sam’s breathing evened out and you felt his hold loosen slightly as sleep took over.
“Are you ok? Seriously.” You whispered turning your head to look at Dean. The green-eyed man didn’t say anything for a moment and he just continued to rub your arm. “I…I don’t know.” He finally admitted. “Y/n what he said to me about-” He gestured to Sam. “what did he mean.” Dean’s tone was serious as he spoke. What John had told him was clearly causing more bother than you first realised.
“And he only made that deal for me. I don’t understand why he would throw it all away when he was so close.” He frowned looking down at you.
“Maybe because your his son and he cared more about you than that damn thing that killed Mom.” Dean raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything. Maybe you were right.
He let out a sigh before shaking his head. “I don’t wanna have this conversation right now okay.” He wrapped his arm around you before settling down.
“It’s late. We can talk in the morning.” He pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Go to sleep.”
Dean closing off was what you expected but at least you’d planted the seed. He shouldn't feel guilty for what your dad did. You nodded and spared Sam a glance.
The youngest Winchester was still sleeping calmly against your chest and you smiled softly brushing a hand through his hair. You felt Dean’s arm tighten around your shoulder slightly. You knew the movement was his way of telling you to sleep and stop worrying over Sam.
You let out a quiet sigh as you lay back on the pillows, placing your head on Deans's shoulder. “Night.”
“Night sweetheart.”
None of you were okay but you had each other and as you lay there for the first time in days you felt some semblance of peace.

Ohmygod i love the blurb you wrote for mafia bobby 😭 you did so well with it!
Still on anon for now, a bit shy about requesting on my main but -
Would you do a Jake x Kazansky reader where he's jealous/infuriated/*cough* horny *cough* because the reader (who's also an aviator) is always being praised by their superiors?
Enemies to friends with benefits to lovers?
If he's a teeny bit mean to the reader (calls her a nepotism baby or something) i would love that 🥺
Thank you so much, everything you've written so far is brilliant!
𝐅𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮
𝐚 𝐉𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐜𝐤: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭
You can feel his eyes on you. Those bright green things that somehow feel like flames licking your skin. They're burning your cheek, the one you have turned towards him. If you didn't loathe him entirely, maybe you'd admit that his eyes were actually a shade of green you were fond of. If you liked him more, maybe you'd say that his eyes are the color of eucalyptus or clover. But since you don't like him, since he really doesn't like you, you privately imagine his eyes to be the same shade as pond scum.
Both of you tend to gravitate towards the front of the classroom, which means that when you're late--like you were today, only by a minute or two--you have to sit in the empty seat beside him. Which means that you had to move his feet from the chair where they were resting--the only seat left in the front row. You knew he certainly wasn't going to move them, especially when he smirked up at you and settled into his seat further.
So you swiftly gripped his ankles and let his feet drop unceremoniously to the concrete floor.
He started to make a sound of protest, started to laugh dryly and without humor, but you already settled into your seat and fixed him with a wonderful view of your middle finger as you "itched" your temple.
He's pissed now. You know that. Honestly, you knew he was going to be pissed before you even did it. But you did it, anyway.
You can't stand his entitlement, the way he takes up all the space around him like he owns it and smiles through it all. And you can't stand sitting anywhere except the front of the classroom--it's where you focus the best.
Maverick is droning through another training and you're being your usual studious self, taking notes with your fine-point pens and chewing on your bottom lip.
"Take a fucking picture already," you finally mutter to Jake, not peeling your eyes away from the screen Maverick stands before.
Jake snorts softly, scoffing at you.
"Don't flatter yourself," he spits back, finally turning away from you as he incessantly taps his pencil against the desk.
You try and ignore it--really, you do. But you're certain after a few minutes that he's doing it just to annoy you. That stupid repetitive clanking--tap, tap, tap, tap, tap--it's starting to drive you fucking crazy.
You're right--Jake is trying to annoy you. He doesn't like it when you sit next to him anymore than you like sitting next to him. And he didn't like that little stunt you pulled by scooping his feet out of the seat they were resting in. He won't admit it to himself or you, but he wouldn't have moved if you asked. Really, you moving his feet were the only way you would be able to sit in that chair.
But he's still pissed at you; he's always pissed at you.
You're a Kazansky, which means everyone treads lightly around you. And if Jake hates one thing--it's people who get a free ride. And you with your pretty fucking face and your sweet-smelling hair and your stupid fucking eyelashes and the ferocious way you bite your lip--you have it easy as far as he's concerned. He decided that the first time he ever met you at the Academy, as soon as you introduced yourself. Your call-sign is Wisteria, born from your unsuspecting appearance and lethal temper. But Jake doesn't like to call you that--he really doesn't like to call you anything.
Growling, you turn and stare at his pencil. He just smirks. It makes your face hot with annoyance.
"You're insufferable," you hiss at him quietly, taking a grab at his pencil.
He's faster than you, just by a fraction of a second. He moves to tapping his pencil incessantly on the other side of the desk where you can't reach him.
"You're fuckin' annoyin'," he bites back in a whispered tone. "You can sit anywhere and you choose here?"
You roll your eyes.
"Newsflash, you fucking dick--you don't own the front row," you mumble, blood rising to the tips of your ears.
"You know I always sit in the front row," he tries to reason, glaring at you, his mouth pulled into a grimace.
"So do I," you whisper back incredulously, finally peeling your eyes away from Maverick to return his wide-eyed look. "So just suck it up and shut the fuck up. Can you do that, Bagman? Pretty please?"
"Well, since you asked so nicely," he grins menacingly.
You groan softly, squeezing your eyes shut. He's going to be the death of you.
"If I ask you pretty please to fuck off, will you do that, too?"
Across the room, Rooster and Payback watch your exchange slyly. Rooster is shaking his head, smiling softly. Payback's lips are slightly parted and his eyebrows are raised.
"How long until they just fuck already?" Rooster whispers to Payback.
Payback shakes his head, shrugging.
"Could be hours. Could be days. Could be weeks. Who knows? God works in mysterious ways," Payback whispers back.
Rooster eyes you--your cheeks are flushed and your lip is nearly bloody from your incessant chewing. Jake is tapping his pencil again, smirking as he glances at you from the corner of his eye.
Oh yeah. You two are definitely burning for each other--Rooster can practically smell it from here.
"I give it two days," Rooster says to Payback.
Payback snorts softly, then sighs.
"I give it two hours," he mumbles back.
The two shake hands slyly under their shared desk.
"I don't know--why don't you try?" Hangman hisses at you.
You square your jaw, breathing through your nose. Lord, grant you some patience for this big hunk of blonde muscle beside you.
You softly smile at him, eyebrows blanched.
"Will you please fuck off?" You ask sweetly, even batting your eyelashes.
Hangman wants to say something. Really, he does. But Maverick is clearing his throat and looking at the two of you. So you slump into your seat, mumbling an apology as you flush. And Jake just nods at Maverick--except he stops tapping his pencil. But he knows that he's going to get you back.
And get you back he does. It's when you're both in the air, cutting through the cornflower sky, teamed up for a dogfight. You're a good pilot--maybe even one of the best. You're vigilant and calculated. You do everything by the books, which is why you've been asked to be Team Captain on more than one occasion.
Of course from Jake's perspective, it's only because of the legacy you hail from. In his opinion, you lack gumption and the kind of recklessness fighter pilots sometimes have to embody.
Needless to say--neither of you like flying with each other. So of course, Maverick pairs the two of you up.
Hangman can be calculated when he wants to be. And today, there's a special fire that's been lit under his ass--and you're the one that's been stoking it all day. So he plays by your rules, obeying you, even using your Lieutenant title--which he makes a point to never use.
But it's at that crucial moment, when you need him to cover you, when you need your wingman--that he dips. He hangs you out to dry, lets you get shot out. Hell, he practically lines up the shot for Maverick. The two of you were close to getting Maverick--so close that Jake could've gotten tone before Maverick even got close to you.
But then your tone is ringing out in your aircraft and you're dead. And Jake is grinning at you as soon as your jet touches down on the tarmac.
"What's got your panties in a twist?" He asks you, smirking as he wipes some beads of sweat from his forehead.
You're thoroughly pissed off. Like red in the cheeks, blood boiling, boulder-sitting-on-your-chest kind of pissed off. You're so pissed off that Bob is crossing the tarmac as soon as he sees that unhinged anger in your eyes, the one that usually prefaces some sort of discipline from the higher-ups.
"You son of a bitch!" You spit at Jake, pointing at him accusingly, throwing your helmet on the tarmac. "You gave Maverick the shot! Fuck, you basically lined it up for him!"
Jake is standing beneath the golden sun, his eyes narrowed as he squints at you under the bright sky. He likes seeing you like this--angry. Like, really, really angry.
"Me?" He asks dumbly, pointing to himself.
You have half a mind to scratch those green eyes out of his pretty face. You stomp towards him, hastily wiping the sweat off your face with your sleeve.
"You!" You shout, puffing your chest out as you square up to him. "You fucking--you-you-!"
"C'mon," Jake taunts, smirking down at you as your furrow your brows deeply. "Spit it out, nepotism baby."
Just as you're about to wallop Jake in his pretty fucking face, just as you're literally about to sink your teeth into his jugular, Bob steps between the two of you.
"Wisty, he wants you to hit him," Bob reasons, his sweet eyes pouring into yours. Jesus, you look feral right now--your teeth are bared, your eyes are glassy, your cheeks are red, you're damp with perspiration. "Do you really wanna give Seresin what he wants?"
Jake isn't surprised that someone jumped in to save your precious reputation. Typical behavior. Everyone always rushing to your aid like the big fucking baby you are.
"Maybe she does," Jake tells Bob, clapping him on the shoulder. "C'mon. Give it to me, baby."
Bob has to put his hands on your shoulders and hold you to the tarmac. He's certain that if he let you go, you'd be impossible to get ahold of again. And Jake would have to run for the hills if he wanted to avoid any major surgeries in the facial region.
"You're a fucking asshole!" You accuse Jake, little bits of saliva flinging at the skin of his face.
Jake comes closer to you--like a toddler taunting an animal at the zoo through the glass--and puckers his lips, making a lewd kissing noise.
He just fucking blew you a kiss.
Bob fights the overwhelming urge to let you loose. Fucking dick.
Jake swiftly turns on his heel, grinning, finally feeling like he has the upper-hand. But he is stopped only a few paces later when Cyclone bellows his official title.
Cyclone, who listened to the comms for once during your training exercise and witnessed the entire tarmac ordeal, has a few words for Jake.
Jake's stomach sinks. Fuck.
And he knows without even turning around that you're grinning now. Of course someone comes in the save the day again. If not Bob or Phoenix or Bradley or Maverick, then fucking Cyclone.
"Karma," you mutter to Bob, sighing deeply.
Bob nods, pushing his glasses back up his nose. He takes a look at your slumped shoulders and your slacked features and decides that he's probably okay to let you go.
"You know he just wants to get under your skin," Bob tells you warily, bumping you with a friendly elbow. "He's threatened by you."
You nod, scoffing.
"Good. I'm better than him."
Bob laughs and it makes something in your chest melt. You suddenly don't feel so angry anymore. You even smile a little bit.
"That you are, Wisty. Now, go take a shower. You stink."
You're in the middle of a much needed shower when the locker-room door suddenly rips open. You're startled enough to jump as you lather your body, straining on your tip-toes to look over the curtain at who just barged into the room.
The rooms are uni-sex, much to your dismay, and you're almost certain that everyone's in the air right now or has already showered after training. You cycle through the squadron in your head, furrowing your brows as you let the hot water boil the anger off your skin.
"Rooster?" You try, your voice echoing out on the tiles in the showers.
There's heavy footsteps--ones that are moving quick. Lug-sole boots, for sure. And if it really were Rooster, you're certain he would've come in humming or whistling or singing some dumb 80s song. And he would've called back at once.
No, this is someone else. Someone who's rapidly approaching, someone who's pissed off. They're stomping in your direction.
"I'm grounded for two fuckin' weeks."
Jake's voice is just outside your shower cubicle. All that separates your naked body from him and his rage is a flimsy shower curtain, one that is very nearly translucent.
You swallow thickly, suddenly feeling very vulnerable. You're naked for crying out loud--and he's trying to do this now? Here?
"Can this wait?" You ask, almost sounding timid.
Jake scoffs.
"No."
You roll your eyes, tipping your head back so the hot water washes over your face and hair again.
"How's it my problem that you're grounded?" You ask, your voice echoing in the vast empty room.
Jake is certain that the shower curtain is about to be set ablaze by his heated gaze. He wants to rip that shower curtain open and shake you silly for getting him in trouble the way you did. He can't see much of you besides your vague silhouette behind the curtain--that and your feet on the tile. Your toes are painted the color of a blueberry--on any other girl, Jake would think it's cute. But it's you, so he thinks it's juvenile.
"Because you just had to make a scene in front of everyone, didn't you? I bet you fuckin' knew Cyclone was watching!"
You scoff so loud that it makes your throat hurt.
"Bullshit, Seresin! I'm not some fucking cartoon villain! You fucked me up there and you know it. You knew I'd be pissed when we landed. I didn't know Cyclone was there."
Jake rakes his hand through his sweaty locks and groans loudly, starting to pace the damp tile outside your cubicle. He knows how threatening his boots against the tile must sound, how stuck you must feel right now. And a tiny part of him takes a strange sort of joy in that--of his presence being so big and looming that it holds you still.
"Yeah, well I guess life just has a way of going your way, huh, Kazansky?"
Your blood is beginning to boil again. Just the way he says your name, with all that venom and malice, it makes your nails dig into your palms.
"What's that mean, Bagman?"
He scoffs now--it's loud enough for you to hear above the blood rushing past your ears.
"It means that you have it easy! You've always had it easy! Your dad is fucking Tom Kazansky! Your daddy was a fighter pilot so he let you be a fighter pilot, too."
You're almost vibrating with anger now, hastily washing the conditioner out of your hair so you can rip the shower curtain and deliver a swift smack to his cheek.
It's one thing for him to say something about you--but it's a whole other thing entirely to bring up your father. You love your father--he's always been your real-life superhero. To hear Jake just say his name like that, just to hear him spit out Tom Kazansky like it means nothing makes you want to make his pretty eyes black.
"Oh, fuck you, Jake! Rooster's dad went to Top Gun, too, but I don't see you bringing that up every chance you get!"
"Rooster's dad is fucking dead!" Jake calls back, sighing in exasperation. "Doubt he helped him climb any ladders from six-feet under!"
Stomach gurgling, chest flushed, heart racing, you act before you even think. You rip open the shower curtain, your ears ringing, and stare at Jake. You want to hit him; you want to hit him more than you've ever wanted to hit anyone in your life. But you know that's probably what he wants.
So you just stand there, your naked body glistening with suds and heaving with every breath you huff out.
Jake stops his pacing, mouth falling open as he stares at all the skin that is suddenly on display. You look fucking pissed--your eyes are rimmed with red, your fists are clenched, your skin is quivering, your mouth is a tight line. But fuck if you don't look sexy right now; your nipples are pert and pink, all the hills and valleys of your body are slick, and that blueberry color on your toes looks mildly endearing as you stomp closer to him.
"You think I've got it easy?"
Your voice is laced with absolute malice.
Jake is backing away from you, his lips parted, his eyes wide.
"Yeah, I do," he says, but he sounds less sure now.
You point up at him, narrowing your eyes.
"Yeah, because women notoriously have it easy in the military. Right, Jake? I've never had to work hard for anything because my dad is an Admiral, right? And all the other people in this program that had parents go through it aren't nepotism babies if their parents are dead, right?"
You're getting closer and closer to him with every word that spews out of your mouth, pressing your finger into his chest, glowering.
Before Jake can answer--which he's having a hard time doing since all the blood in his brain is suddenly draining down, down, down--you get on your tip-toes to get all the more closer to his face.
Something is bubbling up in you, something that's been coming on for months. You're good at hiding your emotions, especially around your family, especially around your dad. You know how upset he gets when you're upset--even as a little girl, you did your best to conceal any sort of crying or whining around him--so you bottle all those tears and that rage and that grief inside your chest cavity. And now that you're naked and pissed and so close to Jake, it's all coming out in hot breaths.
"So, in a few months, when my dad is dead--you're gonna stop calling me a nepotism baby? Is that how this works? Or am I grandfathered in?"
There it is--sitting out in all the steamy air between the two of you. Your dad is dying. You know it, you've known it for a while now, and you're trying to come to terms with it. You haven't been able to tell anyone on base, therapy is too expensive, and you can't cry in front of your dad. So Jake gets to hear it all right now as you stand before him, soaking wet, trembling with rage.
And Jake suddenly feels like a fucking asshole. He hates to feel guilty--which is why he usually actively tries to steel himself against people's reactions to what he says--but he can feel the rusty anchor of it dragging across his chest heavily. He knows that his eyes have softened, that his shoulders are drooping. He knows it because you suddenly soften too.
"Wisteria," he says quietly, trying hard to keep looking at your face and not your breasts or your belly or your legs or your legs. "I'm so..."
And you feel like you're going to cry now--which is great. That's just fucking great. That's all you need right now is to cry in front of Jake fucking Seresin, who will probably internalize all of it to tease you about it for the next ten years.
With a sudden wave of goosebumps, you realize it. You're butt naked right now in front of Jake. Like, properly naked. And you're soaking wet. So, while you still have the slightest bit of dignity intact, you spin on your heel and start to hurry back to your cubicle. A deep blush is covering your chest and throat, climbing up onto your cheeks.
"Hey," Jake says, his voice softer than before. He reaches out before he even realizes what he's doing, wrapping his hand around your bicep.
You whip around quicker than he's expecting, your wet hair smacking his sweaty cheeks. His eyes are wide when you press your nose against his. And even though he knows you're angry at him, angry at the situation and at him and at the world, he knows that you're sad, too. You're sad in a way he doesn't quite understand but that he wants to help--really, he just wants this guilt sitting on his chest to fade.
"Fuck you," you hiss, jabbing his chest. Your voice breaks and he squeezes your arm tighter.
Jake is staring at you. His eyes are wide and his pupils are blown. His mouth is twisted and his cheeks are red and his hair is messy. He's something between pissed and elated, but you don't know what.
"Fuck you," he whispers back, except his voice holds no malice at all. It's soft, soft as the little breaths of his that are fanning over your face.
And he moves closer to you, just barely, just enough so that you can feel his hard cock against your naked hip.
Oh--you recognize that look now. It's lust. He wants you. He wants to fuck you.
Your heart is racing and when his hand moves to tenderly move wet hair off your shoulder, you shudder. Heat is beginning to pool between your legs now, the same heat that is making your lips swell with want.
You're still upset, your emotions are running high. But maybe this would make you feel better--actually, you know it would make you feel better. Between your busy schedule and all the family you're constantly entertaining, you don't have much of a dating life.
"That what you want?" You whisper finally, not moving away from him.
He nods once, swallowing hard.
Fuck.
"That gonna make you shut the fuck up?" You whisper to him, lips just barely grazing his.
And fuck if just the feeling of his lips on yours isn't already making a coil tighten in your belly.
He moans softly, pressing into you just a bit harder. You're steady on your feet, swallowing his sound with a hunger that you've never had for anyone else before.
You're slightly shocked that he's letting you take the lead, letting you talk to him that way. You're also shocked that you're about to kiss Jake Seresin in the locker room at your place of employment. But here you are, your tongue licking a hot stripe across his bottom lip until he opens his mouth for you.
But, like he knew exactly what you were thinking, he wraps your hair tightly around his hand and tugs harshly until your lips disconnect. There is a string of spit connecting the two of you, which makes something very warm grow in your belly.
"You're a bitch," he tells you, panting.
You nod blindly, desperate to press your mouth against his again.
"You're a dick," you tell him.
He moans again--a glutton for punishment. It makes you wet just thinking about all the mean things you can spew at him, all the frustration he would happily let you take out on him and his abs.
You're fumbling with his uniform and he's feverishly pressing kisses to your wet shoulders and neck, both of you moving quickly so you don't change your mind or get some sense knocked into you.
"Princess," he mumbles against your skin, sucking harshly over your collarbone.
"Entitled prick," you moan back, pushing his shirt on the floor and eagerly working on his belt buckle.
Jake can't believe this is happening. He never thought he wanted to fuck you--honestly, the thought had never crossed his mind. But now that you're here in front of him, naked and wet and ready for him, he can't believe he hasn't indulged in this fantasy before. You're so fucking hot that he's already straining against his service khakis, his mind spinning, his chest heaving. He's only ever strictly--and honestly, begrudgingly--noticed your beauty. It's hard for him to not notice beautiful people so it's usually your face that he lands on.
"C'mon," he hisses at you, dragging his calloused hands down to your breasts. "Faster."
He pinches hard enough to make you cry out, enough to make your toes curl. White-hot pleasure is raining over you, licking your heels, scorching you.
"Fuck you," you moans again, finally undoing his belt and getting rid of his pants and underwear in one swift movement.
"Plannin' on it," he whispers to you, delivering a few more sharp pinches to your nipples as he kneads the soft tissue of your breast in his rough hands.
His cock is freely pressing into your skin now, hard and hot and leaking pearlescent beads of pre-cum. He's big--he's really fucking big. You can feel all the veins around his cock pulsing, can feel how badly he wants you. If you weren't as wet as you are right now, you'd make fun of him.
"Shower," he commands, already pressing you against the wall of your cubicle.
The water is still running, clouding the room with steam, and after only a few moments both of you are sopping wet again. He's kissing you like he's trying to devour you, relentless in his harsh movements on your chest. The pleasure is almost paralyzing you, almost rendering you motionless.
But after only a few moments of his harsh movements, you finally move down and wrap your fingers around his cock. You give a few tugs, slipping your thumb over the his slit.
Jake Seresin, Jake fucking Seresin, moans into your mouth. It's a deep and throaty thing, something that shoots you straight in the core. And then he presses himself against you, holding you up with one of his arms as his other one slips between you. In one swift movement, his fingers are spreading you open and circling your clit furiously. There's no easing into it, not with him. It's hot and desperate and needy.
You're moaning, too, throwing your head back against the slick tiles, squeezing your eyes shut. And Jake is kissing feverishly across your neck, nibbling your collarbones, trying not to outwardly moan at how silky and good you feel on his fingers.
That coil is tightening in your belly, pushing you closer and closer to an edge you weren't even near when you started to shower a short while ago. But his fingers are so rough, so calloused, and they feel so fucking good against this delicate part of you.
"Make me cum," you desperately whisper, the water pouring down over the two of you deliciously.
He's still moaning at your swift movements over his cock, at the way you are giving special attention to the head of his cock the exact way he likes.
"You're such a fuckin' princess," he whispers into your mouth, biting down hard on your lower lip as you mewl desperately. "Always gotta be taken care of, huh?"
Nonetheless, he's picking up his pace, rubbing your clit in hard and fast circles. He can tell your close by the crinkle between your brows, by the way you're bucking into his hand, by those desperate little breaths that are puffing into his face. You're soaking wet, too, which makes him so hard that he thinks he might combust.
"Oh, Jake," you moan, trying to match his pace with your hips.
He keens at the sound of his name falling off your lips. And when you tangle your fingers in his hair and tug, it only encourages him to move faster.
If you weren't so close to cumming, if he his cock wasn't dripping in your hands, then you would laugh at him. Jake Seresin has a degradation and a praise kink. Typical.
"Beg for it," he mutters to you, swallowing hard.
You don't even think twice.
"Please," you whisper pathetically, mouth parted in utter ecstasy. "Please, please, please, Jake. God, give it to me, Jake. Please let me cum."
Jake's sounds are sacrilegious. He's pressing his lips agains yours harshly, his tongue folding across yours, pressing down just right until he's thrown you off the edge of a cliff and directly into the vortex of an orgasm. You convulse in his arms, shaking and nearly crying, and he swallows every single sound your pretty mouth makes.
"That's it," he coaxes, uncharacteristically soft as he works you through it. "Good girl."
Your fingernails embed themselves in the skin of his scalp.
And if he wasn't planning on fucking you just as soon as you can stand on your own two feet again, he'd endlessly tease you about the way you like to be teased. Typical.
And just as soon as you've come down, just as soon as your vision isn't whited out, you're turning yourself so your chest is against the shower wall. Jake almost moans just from the sight of your supple ass raising just slightly in the air--a signal that you're ready for him.
But he takes not a moment of hesitation. He smooths his hand down your spine, holding the meat of your cheeks in his hands, silently thanking God for his bad attitude earlier.
And you're panting, still recovering, so turned on still that you can't even speak. You know that if you did speak, you would sound downright dumb. You'll be damned before you let Jake Seresin know that his fingers alone have made you totally stupid.
"Ready for me?"
You just nod, stifling an eye roll.
He braces himself against you, a firm hold on your hips. And you brace yourself against the wall, pressing your hot cheek against the cool tile.
And just as he lines the head of his weeping cock up to your sopping entrance, just as he's about to practically rip you in two, he leans forward. You want to whine, really you do, but then he's very tenderly moving all the wet hair out of your face so he can see your pink cheek and your swollen lips and half-lidded eyes.
"You want this?" He asks, voice steady but desperate.
You glance back at him, brows furrowed slightly. He's being totally earnest right now--you can tell from the flat line of his lips and the way his eyebrows are just barely knit.
"Yes," you whisper after a moment, nodding.
He smiles, nodding.
"Good," he whispers, pressing himself into you all at once, rendering you speechless and breathless. "Cause I fuckin' want it, too."

The restaurant wasn’t as crowded as the other night, and you supposed that was due to the fact that it was the middle of the week. Penny was stationed behind the bar, cleaning out the glasses in between drink orders. You were cushioned between Jake and Natasha at the round table, picking at the fries left on Jake’s plate as he looked at you fondly. His arm rested on the back of the booth behind you, his fingers playing with the ends of your hair as you joked with the group.
“And then Bob over here decided that it would be a good idea to climb on top of this guy’s roof!” You grinned, earning a groan from the man in question.
“I hate this damn story,” he pouted, leaning back and running a hand over his face as the others peered over at him.
“Sweet, innocent Bobby climbed on top of some guy’s roof?” Bradley asked, leaning forward to look down the table at the blushing man.
“It wasn’t that big a deal,” Bob grumbled.
“That was the drunkest I’ve ever seen him,” you told the group. “He kept saying something about being able to fly and something else about the cannonball to end all cannonballs, but I was just so focused on getting him down that I wasn’t really paying attention.”
“Oh yeah?” Bob smirked, giving you a devious look that made the smile drop from your face. “And what about the time I had to haul your ass back to your apartment because you almost went skinny dipping with the sharks?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Bullshit,” he grinned, leaning towards you. “You were crying your eyes out for twenty minutes because you thought we were hurting their feelings by going home.”
You felt your cheeks heat up as the group broke out into fits of giggles, scowling at your best friend and his smug expression. You felt Jake shift next to you, placing a soft kiss to your temple before leaning back.
“Don’t worry, Angelfish,” he winked as you looked at him. “I’m sure you didn’t hurt their feelings.”
“I’m sure they were more upset they didn’t get an easy meal,” Bradley joked. “Although, they say that humans taste like plastic.”
“They?” You questioned. “You mean the sharks?”
Bradley nodded. “Yeah, I asked them once. Said that humans taste icky.”
“I’m sorry,” you blinked, “are you trying to tell me that you can talk to sharks?”
“I wouldn’t really call it talking,” Javy amended, casting a pointed look at Bradley who shrugged. “It’s more like, we can sense the intentions.”
“Like telepathy?” You asked.
“Sort of,” Reuben nodded. “It’s kind of hard to explain. It has a lot to do with the magic.”
“Huh,” you murmured thoughtfully, glancing at Bradley. “And they told you that people taste…icky?”
“That was the general vibe, yeah,” he shrugged. “I asked them one day after I ran into a group of them and they kept avoiding me.”
“Are you sure it wasn’t just because it was you?” Nat asked with a raise of her eyebrow. “Maybe it’s just you who tastes icky.”
The rest of you burst into a fit of laughter as Bradley scowled, the noise dying down as a figure approached your table.
“Hey guys,” Cole grinned as he stopped in front of the table.
“Hey, Cole!” Mickey greeted, “what brings you by?”
“Did you wanna join us?” Reuben offered, Mickey and Javy already scootching in to make room on either side of the booth. Cole shook his head, raising his hand to stop them.
“Nah, don’t worry about it,” he smiled, eyes darting to you. “I was just coming by to pick up some lunch for me and my aunt when I saw you guys, and I figured I’d say hi.”
“Saw you chatting up some of the girls at the dance the other night,” Bradley said with a wolfish grin. “See anybody that caught your eye?”
“Maybe,” Cole smirked, looking at him. “Did you guys have a good time?”
“I thought all the costumes were really amazing,” you hummed, “but I didn’t get to see much of it, unfortunately.”
“That’s a shame,” Cole murmured with a frown. “Well, hopefully you’ll get to see more of the next one here in a couple of weeks.”
“What’s that?” You asked.
“The Moonlight Masquerade,” Bob supplied with a roll of his eyes. “It’s another costume party. Everybody gathers downtown to check out the local vendors, but the actual dancing is at city hall.”
“A perfect excuse to take you dress shopping again,” Natasha grinned as you wrinkled your nose.
“Are you going to let me pay for my own dress this time?” You asked, earning a short laugh from the brunette.
“Nope!” She grinned, popping the “P.” You rolled your eyes but smiled fondly at her, turning your attention back to Cole.
“I don’t suppose your aunt will have more jewelry for me to wear?” You questioned, fingers curled around the pendant holding the black pearl that hung around your neck. You felt Jake press closer into your side, his arm moving down to encase you as Cole gave you a smirk.
“I’m sure she will.” he hummed, eyes shifting to look behind you at Jake with a knowing twinkle in his eyes. “She just got a new shipment of masks in that we’re working on putting out today. Stop by soon before they’re all gone. I’ll even give you the friends and family discount.”
“That sounds great!” You chirped, turning to give Nat an excited look. She flashed you a quick smile in return, eyes quickly looking back up at Cole in curiosity.
“I didn’t know you had that discount,” she murmured, arching a brow. Cole shrugged good-naturedly.
“We don’t, but what my aunt doesn’t know won’t hurt her.”
“We’ll be sure to stop by soon,” you assured him.
“It was good to see you all,” he smiled, giving a small wave before turning to collect his food from Penny. You all waved at him as he exited, turning back to your conversation.
“He’s always so nice,” you commented, earning a disgruntled hum from beside you.
“Maybe a little too nice,” Jake muttered with a frown. You raised an eyebrow at him in amusement.
“Are you jealous, crooner?” You teased, fighting the smile that threatened to overtake you. Jake scoffed, pressing his lips into a thin line as he looked at you.
“You gonna go and run off with him?”
You pretended to think about it, earning a less than amused look from the blond man sitting next to you. Finally, you shook your head, shooting him a wink. “Nah, I’ve already got great company right here.”
Jake let out a please hum this time, leaning in to place a gentle kiss to your temple, earning a gag from across the table.
“You two are gross,” Bradley frowned, wrinkling his nose at the two of you. “Let’s go before I lose my lunch.”
You sat on the blanket that did little to shield you from the sand underneath, the sun casting a golden glow over the beach as it crept towards the horizon. It was just you on the blanket, the others running around with a football in some game they had made up years ago. You grinned as you watched them, laughing when Jake’s team scored and he yelled out in victory, the whoops and hollers from his teammates joining him. You reached for a bottle of water when you noticed Bradley trotting towards you, his skin slick with sweat as he collapsed beside you. Wordlessly, you handed him the water, turning your attention back towards the game as he took a long sip, catching his breath as he did so.
“Having fun?” He grinned up at you, his sunglasses obscuring his eyes.
“Oh, most definitely,” you grinned down at him, wiggling your eyebrows. He barked out a laugh as he laid down, resting his hands on his stomach. You turned your attention back to the game as the two of you sat in silence for a few moments.
“How are you feeling about everything?” He asked, turning his head to look at you.
“About what?” You countered, arching a brow.
“You know,” he prodded, propping himself up on an elbow to get a better look at you. “The true mate stuff.”
“Oh,” you breathed, glancing back at where the others were still heavily engrossed in their game. “I’m okay with it.”
“Oh yeah?” Bradley challenged, sitting up fully now. “Somehow I don’t think you’ve really thought about it like you should.”
“And you’re suddenly an expert?” You huffed, earning a half-hearted shrug.
“It’s serious shit, Skipper. None of us want to see either of you get hurt. True mates is nothing to shrug off.”
“Look,” you sighed, “I get that it’s a big deal, okay? But why do you care so much? How could we possibly get hurt?”
Bradley was quiet for a moment, a frown tugging on his lips as he stared off into the ocean. You were about to say something when he broke the silence.
“Did you know that the house Jake and I live in used to belong to my mom and dad?”
That grabbed your attention. You had met everyone else’s parents over the course of the past few weeks, but you had yet to meet Bradley’s. The more you thought about it, the more you realized that you couldn’t recall a time when he had talked about them either.
“I didn’t know that,” you said carefully, eyeing him wearily. He gave you a tight-lipped smile before continuing.
“Yeah, it’s the house I grew up in. My dad was a sea person, you know? He, Mav, and Ice used to be best friends growing up, and he actually grew up in the house himself. He and my mom knew each other since they were babies.”
“Were they true mates?” You asked him, bringing your knees up to your chin as you listened to him.
“They were,” he nodded, and there was a profound sense of sadness rolling off of him as he spoke. “My dad used to say that he knew she was his even before he knew he was a sea person. Said everyone around them knew they were in love before they knew what that meant.”
“That sounds like a fairytale,” you murmured, and Bradley let out a humorless chuckle.
“It was, I guess. My mom was the happiest person you’d ever meet, actually,” he rasped, a sad smile tugging at the edge of his lips at whatever memories played through his head. “She always had a smile and joke for someone, and my dad always called her ‘sunshine.’ He was a great guy too, you know. He’d always help out when he could, and I remember that he was really funny.”
“Oh, Bradley,” you whispered, tears kissing at your lashes. “Can I ask what happened?”
He was quiet for another moment.
“It was a hurricane,” he breathed, emotion thick in his voice. “I was fifteen at the time, and I remember Mav and Ice coming by the house to ask for his help down at the marina. My mom told him not to go, that she had a bad feeling, but my dad could never say no when someone needed his help.”
He took a shuddering breath, a hand coming up to wipe at his eyes, pushing his sunglasses up against his forehead before taking them off and letting them drop down onto the sand.
“I stayed up with my mom that night, sitting with her as she sat on the couch, just waiting for him to come home. But then, she got up and just started pacing, clawing at her throat like she couldn’t breathe, and I tried to get her to calm down, I really did,” he sniffed, and for a moment, he was transformed back into the fifteen year old boy he was when this happened. You reached out a hand, placing it gently on one of his as he continued on. “And then she just stopped, and it was like a light went out in her eyes. Then she let out this scream. I’ll never forget the sound of it, Skipper. Not for as long as I live. It was like someone reached inside her chest and ripped her heart out. It wasn’t until Ice and Mav showed up on our doorstep that I found out what happened.”
He looked at you then, a haunted look in his honey-colored eyes.
“Turns out,” he muttered, “that my dad had been trying to help some fishermen make it to shore, but the current got away from all of them. The boat smashed up against the rocks, pinning my dad and crushing him, and because of their bond, my mom felt every second of it. She felt it when he-”
He cut himself off, pressing his lips firmly together as if afraid to speak the word aloud. You squeezed his hand gently.
“When did your mom pass?” You asked quietly. Bradley stared at you for a second before letting out a bitter sounding laugh.
“She’s not dead, Skipper,” he murmured, causing you to blink in shock.
“What?”
“No, she’s very much alive,” he sighed, drawing patterns in the sand by his feet. “But she’s never been the same, and she might as well have died for how little she’s been present since it happened.”
You balked at the bitterness in his voice.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean,” he spat, “that when my dad died, the part of her that made her her did too. She hasn’t been able to utter a single word since it happened, and from that day, I was on my own. I took care of her for years because she was just this empty shell. She didn’t laugh, or smile, or love anymore. Then my grandparents, her parents, made plans to move to Florida, and they made the arrangements to take her with them. I got to keep the house and everything and invited Jake to move in with me because I couldn’t stand the thought of being there by myself. I wouldn’t.”
You didn’t even notice that you had started crying until Bradley looked up at you, grimacing as he reached up to wipe your tears away.
“Shit, I’m sorry, Skipper,” he murmured. “I didn’t mean to make you cry, honest. I just wanted you to know what you were getting yourself into. I want you to think about what you’re risking if you agree to all of this.”
“I know,” you sniffled, “and I appreciate you telling me all that, Bradley, I do.”
Bradley nodded silently, and you reached over to wrap him up in a hug, squeezing him tightly.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that,” you told him. “It sounds like they really loved each other.”
He gave you a short squeeze back. “They did.”
The sound of your friends growing closer had you shifting your focus forward just as Jake dropped down at your other side, pulling you close to place a smacking kiss to your forehead.
“Gross!” You giggled, pushing him away. “You’re all sweaty, get away from me!”
He feigned hurt as his green eyes twinkled with mischief. He reached out for you, pulling you closer and rubbing his forehead against your shoulder.
“Ah, but Angelfish,” he smirked, “I thought you’d miss me!”
“Not when you’re gross!” You shrieked, trying in vain to pull away from him. He let out a laugh as you made a disgusted face at him, the two of you dissolving into a mess of giggles.
“Is he fucking giggling?” Mickey asked Nat, giving Jake an incredulous look. “Since when does golden boy giggle?”
“Since he fell in love!” Nat sing-songed in a teasing voice, laughing as Jake flipped both of them off. You chanced a glance at Bradley only to find that he was back to his usual happy self, not a trace of the sadness that had just surrounded him. You shifted your focus back to Jake who was looking at you quizzically.
“Everything alright, Angel?”
“Just peachy, Crooner,” you smiled, pecking his cheek. He chased after you as you pulled away, placing a firm, sweet kiss to your lips. You hummed happily against him, hearing a gagging sound from off to the side.
“You two are disgusting,” Javy remarked, rolling his eyes. You pulled away from Jake to give him a knowing look.
“You’re one to talk,” you told him, smirking. The others looked back and forth between the two of you as Nat shifted nervously.
“What are you talking about?” Reuben asked, earning a half hearted shrug from you.
“Oh, nothing,” you giggled, a saccharine smile on your face as you batted your eyes innocently. “So, what’s the plan for tonight?”
You walked alongside Bob down the cool sands of the beach towards his home, the last remnants of the sun fading below the horizon.
“What did you and Bradley talk about?” He asked you, glancing at you curiously. “Seemed pretty serious.”
You didn’t answer right away, unsure as to how much Bradley had actually told the others.
“He was telling me about his parents,” you decided on. You heard Bob suck in a breath as the two of you continued walking.
“He’s never told us the whole story, you know,” Bob murmured. “All we know is that his dad died one night and his mom was never the same after that. He missed some school because of it, too. We tried to get him to talk about it once, but he just brushed us off and acted like he was okay. Eventually, we stopped pushing him to.”
“I think it still really affects him,” you said quietly. “He told me the whole story. I guess he thought I needed to hear it in order to make an informed decision about what to do.”
“And what is it you want to do, Skip?” He asked, looking over at you now. You considered his words.
“I suppose,” you hummed, “that I’m not exactly sure yet. I have a lot to think about now.”
“Yeah,” he nodded, grimacing slightly. “That’s fair.”
“How are you feeling about all of this?” You asked him, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. He rolled his eyes at you.
“You two are disgusting,” he scoffed. “Why don’t you two get a room?”
“We agreed to take it slow,” you shrugged, causing Bob to belt out a laugh as he almost tripped into the sand.
“You could have fooled all of us!” He snickered, earning a scowl from you. You punched his arm lightly, trying in vain to hold back your smile.
“You’re such a jerk sometimes,” you giggled. He swung an arm over your shoulder, pulling you close by your neck as you squawked in protest.
“Just gotta tell my best friend how it is,” he beamed. You went to respond, but let out a grunt as Bob stopped short, nearly making you trip over your own feet. The smile was gone from his face as he narrowed his eyes in confusion at something ahead of the two of you. You turned to try and see what he was looking at. Up ahead, a large lump lay amidst the sand, and the two of you pulled apart to make your way slowly up to the mysterious object.
The clouds rolled out from in front of the moon, illuminating the beach with the pale rays. Your heart stopped as the object became clear. It was a girl, that much was plain. She wore no clothing, and her skin was pale. Her torso was practically hallowed out, deep, angry claw marks etched into her bloated skin, her familiar blue eyes widened in a mixture of shock and fear. Her lips were still parted as if she had been killed mid-scream, a gaping hole in her neck that made the contents of your stomach churn.
Mandy.
Her brown hair still clung to her face from the water, and you heard Bob let out a curse beside you. That was when you heard the screaming, a panicked, high-pitched wailing echoing along the beach. Your eyes were still trained on the body in front of you, her limbs twisted in an unnatural fashion. Your hands gripped at Bob’s arm, and you felt him run a hand over your hair as the screaming continued. Shouts could be heard coming from the street, and you felt the fresh, hot tears cascading down your face as the voices grew closer. It wasn’t until Bob pulled you into his arms, cradling your head close to his chest that you realized that it was you who was screaming. Your screams died down, turning into violent sobs as you clung to Bob, unable to block out the image of Mandy lying there, even after you closed your eyes.

jegulus dads ‘i frew up 🧍’ microfic— 1313 words; sorry guys i was brain rotting too hard about this one (cw: mentions of throwing up)
in all his 27 years, regulus has never been a deep sleeper. so when the door to the bedroom creaks open at 3 in the morning, his eyes open with it. the room is still pitch black, and he wonders groggily if boots (their cat) pawed it open when a tiny, weak voice whimpers, “daddy?”
regulus is launching up in bed and turning towards the voice of his five year old son before thinking twice.
“what, baby? what is it?”
at his sudden movement, james shoots up in bed next to him. “—whatisit. haz?” he mumbles, flicking on a lamp and dousing the room in light.
there stands harry in his spiderman jams, hair an absolute bird’s nest and tears streaming from his big green eyes and down his sweet cheeks. regulus’ eyes water instinctively just looking at him. before having kids, regulus never knew what it was to empathize so automatically with someone else— but he felt harry’s emotions right along with him, the joy, the sorrow, and the pain too.
“i—“ harry starts, then sucks in a big stuttering breath, clearly trying to be a brave boy and not cry, “i-i threw u-up.”
at the admission he wails, like he’s just confessed to the most abhorrent sin and will now have to face the wrath of his two loving fathers, who are so light on punishments they sometimes worry harry will end up being the most spoiled brat alive. james and regulus share a quick look, what regulus would consider the “dad” look, before throwing back the covers and rising quickly.
surprisingly, they’ve planned for this. years ago. when they first started dating. james had asked regulus about this very scenario, and after minutes of regulus whining about never wanting children in the first place—so why does it even matter, james— he’d made his position clear.
“i don’t do vomit.” regulus told him firmly. “absolutely not.”
james had laughed. “fine by me. if you only knew how much of my friends vomit i’ve had to clean up over the years. i don’t even blink at it anymore.”
thus the responsibilities of this hypothetical situation were assigned. james was on vomit duty. regulus was on comfort duty.
“not sure i’ll be any good at that either,” regulus had said grudgingly, but james had just smiled knowingly, able to see a future that regulus couldn’t yet imagine.
james makes it to harry first and scoops him up promptly, letting him bury his face in his neck and sob. regulus comes up behind them and snuggles up to harry, kissing his small head and whispering reassurances.
“shhhh don’t cry, it’s okay, haz. does your tummy hurt?” james asks calmly, rocking them all back and forth soothingly.
regulus pulls back and watches harry nod. his cheek is rosy and hot when regulus puts his hand to it.
“come on, baby, let’s go take care of it okay?” regulus tells him, and james deposits their still-sniffling son into his husbands open arms.
“you know what time it is?” james asks, wiggling his brows. harry just sniffs and shakes his head. “time to be superdad,” james tells him, pointing at his faded superman t-shirt. then he gives an animated salute, puts one fist on his hip and the other high in the sky before jetting out of the room with some impressive ‘flying sounds’ that manage to make harry smile a little before he remembers that he’s actually very upset right now. regulus shakes his head at his wonderfully ridiculous spouse and starts towards the stairs, feeling harry’s hot tears gather in the crook of his neck.
after giving harry some medicine, they settle on the couch downstairs, harry in regulus lap and clinging to him. regulus rocks them for a few minutes, letting harry’s breaths slow as he calms down.
“papa?” harry sniffles suddenly, his voice so small.
“yes, sweetheart?” regulus asks, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“we need to have a funeral. like how we did for bobbi.”
regulus blinks. bobbi, harry’s goldfish, had died three days after james brought him home, leaving the two of them to explain the complicated matter of death to their three and a half year old. so harry had a vague idea of the concept and of funerals, though his only exposure has been the meager ceremony they’d patched together and held in their garden. sirius had given a speech and peter had cried.
“what? why?” regulus demands, scanning his son’s face. his bottom lip pokes out as his eyes fill with tears yet again.
“b-because i think i killed hippo,” he wails. “i-i threw up all over him— a-and ron said that throw up is like— like how supervillains spit out the acid and k-kill the good guys—“
regulus closes his eyes briefly, exhaling in relief. he makes a mental note to tell james to cool it on the superhero movies for a while— clearly it’s getting into harry’s head.
“no baby, hippo is fine. he just needs to go for a swim in the wash, and then he’ll come out as good as new.”
harry peels his head back from regulus’ chest, blinking up at home hopefully. “really?”
“really. i bet daddy has already put him in. shall we go check on him just to be sure?”
“yes, please,” harry says, politely. oddly, it makes regulus think of his mother, of how she had demanded her boys to be polite above all else, even in the face of abuse and neglect. james and regulus had done absolutely everything differently, and harry still turned out to be the sweetest boy on the planet. walburga can fucking suck it.
pushing aside the thoughts of his mother, regulus rises with harry still perched on his hip. they walk back upstairs, peeking their heads into the laundry room to find james, metaphorical sleeves rolled up as he hums to himself, rummaging through their linens. regulus truly married the only person in the world who can sing while cleaning up vomit at 3 in the morning.
james turns and smiles at them in the doorway. “my boys!” he says cheerfully, crossing the room to give harry a smooch on the head.
“he’s worried about hippo, darling,” regulus explains. “can you show him how he’s just gone for a dip in the wash?”
“who, hippo?” james asks. “oh he’s great. you know what he told me haz?” he leans forward as if confiding a secret, “he told me he’s been wanting a bubble bath for sooo long and he’s sooo happy he finally got the chance. he even said to tell you thank you!”
harry giggles. “no he didn’t. he doesn’t talk.”
james gasps. “well he certainly talks to me, harry. we’re the best of friends.”
“i thought papa was your best friend,” harry says and james’ face melts into the gentlest smile.
“that’s true, too. it’s a tie between hippo and papa.”
regulus rolls his eyes as harry laughs. they go over and stand in front of the washer. the top is clear, so harry can see all his stuffies (including hippo) swirl around in the sudsy water. after several moments of watching them spin, james nudges regulus, inclining his head towards harry.
regulus looks down to see their baby’s eyes closed, head heavy, cheek squished against his chest.
“his bed has fresh sheets,” james whispers but regulus isn’t quite ready to let him go. he looks up at james with a pleading face.
james, try as he might, has never excelled at being the hardass parent. so when regulus takes their son back into their bedroom, depositing him under the covers between the two of them, james just smiles and shakes his head. they climb into bed and turn towards harry, two parenthesis enclosing the small shape of their son, cradling him and keeping him safe.
regulus sleeps long and deep, one hand laced with his husband’s, the other resting on his son’s dark head.

What would be the Toys' first Google searches? I could imagine Angel would have a field trip looking through their computer's search history.
And semi-related, which of them would be most likely to accidentally download a computer virus?
Angel lets the group use their computer after bringing everyone back from the hospital, but not before warning them to be careful, as Angel during that time still technically has a job and needs to keep certain files intact. They leave their dead-end job the next day after their boss calls them, finally freeing themself, so now the toys are all okay to use the computer. Bunzo discovers this thing called "The Sims 1" installed and falls in love, it's like virtual dolls! Poppy and Mommy Long Legs are also fascinated by it.
DogDay has a 70% chance of downloading a computer virus by accident during the first 15 minutes of computer time he has in his life. First search: "What is happening in the world?", and spends 3 hours reading everything, "Smiling Critters", "CatNap recall".
CatNap: "Playtime lawsuit", "playtime prototype experiment, "music".
Mommy Long Legs: "Mommy Long Legs", "long legs toys", "the sims house".
Poppy: "Elliot Ludwig", "Playtime lawsuit", "what happened in the last 30 years?"
Huggy: "iusfawjfjsiojfiojafsio" (he doesn't know how to read or write) "cool flash games" (Angel lets him have the time of his life)
Kissy: "Playtime orphanage", "stuffed animals"
Bunzo: "CALENDAH", "KOOL GAMEZ" (corrected to "cool games", he then plays flash games for 3 hours straight)
PJ: "OPIUMNHIUY" (Angel writes "Pingu" for him)
Delight: "What is happening in the world", "how to take care of a face prosthetic", "biology", "national geography"
Smiling Critters crew, after being rescued:
Craftycorn: "places for artists" (discovers Deviant Art), "person waving" (needs a reference to draw), "blue dress" (reference to draw), "mySpace"
Bubba: "Playtime Co. lawsuit", "Playtime Co. rescue", "Smiling Critters", "How does a computer work?"
Hoppy: "how to live without legs", "prosthetic legs", "cool people with prosthetic legs"
Kickin: "how to ignore leg itching", "smiling critters", "where am i"
Bobby: "are the orphans of playtime co okay", "bobby bearhug", "photo of the entire world", "list of countries", "france" (gets lost in history websites)
Picky: "how to stop feeling sad", "how to stop being hungry", "vegetarian recipes to cook for family", "what is a farmers market", "how does a grocery store look like", "how does a market look like", "world outside", "forest", "green", "planet earth" (stares at a picture of the entire Earth for some time)

Do you have any headcanons of Kickinchicken?
i only have a few hc of him lolololololllll
Bigger bodies:
Kickin' breathes Ylang ylang gas like how Catnap does to the Red Smoke
Ylang ylang gas is colored creamy yellow. It can also make anyone within the vicinity to fall asleep. And like Catnap, he can control the dream you are having
His gas can boost confidence (bigger bodies) and his plush is ideal for timid children (toy)
Despite the cramped up spaces,Kickin's bigger bodies can fly, although low range like a real life chicken/rooster
When he roars, he can emit the caw sounds of an aggressive rooster, mixed with deep growling
Like Catnap and Dogday, he can speak. I imagine his voice to be the raspy and a little static version of a young man's voice. His voice is a little high pitched compared to Catnap's and Dogday's voices. Also, before the hour of joy, his voice box was in perfect condition (unlike CatNap's whose voice box is broken before and after the massacre) And now his voice, although has a little static, is still functional and can speak steadily. (If only he was alive in the game😞)
He lurks around the caverns area
His jumpscare would be jumping on you with his talons pointed at you, his wings wide and his caw deafening your ears. Kind of like how birds of prey hunt and pin down their food
He is the only smiling critter who can walk on two. I know Catnap can stand on two legs but he's mostly on four. So KC is the only one who walks and run on two. Tho he can also walk on 4 if he's crawling or crouching
Cartoon:
He LOVES to comb his feather crown and owns various shades
Kickin chicken may be shown in the cartoons to eat bugs occasionally, which the others will be weirded out. Pickypiggy smiles and gives him a thumbs up, attempting to support him whilst smiling awkwardly and sweating bullets. Kickin offered her to eat but she immediately shook her head 😆 he eats with pride✨
Other than that, he likes any pastry food and leafy greens, ice cream and wafers
He can sing and play the guitar. He likes to listen to pop music
After doing activities cool kids do, he likes to rest on hammocks, specifically the ones made in rattan and net
He cried watching the Titanic movie or any tragic romance in general
He's a gentleman who can cry because of movies💅
He often takes random selfies and pictures with the smiling critters. He posts it on Playin'stagram (instagram)
He likes to be a model for Craftycorn whenever she's drawing, and for bobby bearhug whenever she needs a fashion assistant
He joins in to the girls' make up sessions, sometimes dragging catnap, bubba and dogday in whenever the girls hunt for make-up models
He's optimistic and refuses to let the negative things keep him down, he can also be stubborn at times and doesnt think about the consequences (which causes him trouble)
He's the loud, supportive type of friend, shouting shit like "You can do it!!" Watch out for aggressive positivity XD (the difference between him and dogday's attitude is that dogday is a more gentler version of his positivity, but can also as get loud and supportive as kickin is) He's also the type to not read the room and sometimes shout supportive words in the wrong time (for comedic purpose lol)
He likes comics, manga, anime and animated shows
Welp, i think thats all i could say lmao

9-1-1 REACTION
This reaction is for the season 8, first episode “Buzzkill” which originally aired on September 26, 2024. The episode was written by Molly Green and James Leffler and directed by James Wong.
The 118 is back, baby, and you won’t bee-lieve what shenanigans our faves are getting into in season 8 opener. Previously, my reviews have been a bit long-winded as I tried to react the episodes in their entirety. For this season, I thought I’d try something new. Rather than doing a scene-by-scene recap, my plan is to have four segments that I comment on. Those segments will be:
Best plot
Best emergency sequence
Episode MVP
BuckTommy Corner
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's start with our best plot.
Best plot?
It was fun checking in on all of our first responders. In case you for some reason didn’t watch the season 7 finale, Bobby left the 118 and was replaced by former captain Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson). This leads me to the best plot of the episode. We’ve seen glimpses of what life was like prior to Bobby becoming captain in the episodes "Hen Begins" and "Chimney Begins". There’s only a handful of characters who have worked under Gerrard. Unfortunately, Buck is not one of those characters.
Captain Vincent Gerrard is still just as terrible as he was back then. Hen, Chimney and even Eddie, our three minority members of the 118, seen to hate working for the man but they seem to take all of his microaggressions in stride. Not to get too deep on racial politics but if you’re Black, Latinx, or Asian living in America, you probably know all too well what it’s like to encounter someone like Captain Gerrard. Buck, however, hasn’t had to face as much adversity as his colleagues and it is this reason that he’s the most outwardly resistant towards the interim captain.
Nothing Buck does seems to please Gerrard, and I imagine this reminds Buck of his own fragile relationship with his dad. Buck truly saves the day, twice, when he suggests using smokes to disperse the bees and later on uses Eddie as bait to distract the bees. Gerrard, however, isn’t impressed and only sees Buck’s good ideas as acts of defiance.
At the end of the episode, Buck gets chewed out by Gerrard and for a moment I thought he was going to snap. What happened next was very unexpected. A saw blade flies across the firehouse and nearly skewers Gerrard. Buck manages to intervene and saves the captain’s life. We end the episode with Captain Gerrard lying unconscious in his own blood. Will Buck’s act of bravery be once again misinterpreted, or will Gerrard be grateful for his lifesaving intervention?
Best emergency sequence?
We had a handful of emergencies this episode but the one that sticks out to me is the one involving the mother Julie (Marisol Sacramento) and her daughter Reyla (Nora Harriet) both of whom are deathly allergic to bees. Now I’ve never been afraid of bees. If I see one, I usually get out of their way. I know how important they are to the environment, so I just let them do their thing. With that said, if I ever saw that many bees in one spot, I would probably have a panic attack. When the bees surrounded their vehicle, all I kept thinking was, what would I do in that situation.
Watching the 118 respond to the accident was quite exciting. Once again, Buck’s quick thinking saved the day. I’m always amazed by how all of the seemingly useless information stored in Buck’s brain ends up being extremely useful during their emergencies. Aside from Hen, I truly bee-lieve that Buck is one of the smartest people on the show. It’s unfortunate how some of the other characters right him off as being an idiot at times.
Okay, I’m not trying to be rude but, if you and your daughter are both deadly allergic to bees, why would you only have one EpiPen??? Speaking of smart characters, kudos to Maddie for thinking on her feet and having the mom reuse the EpiPen. I’ve given myself many injections before and I didn’t know that some of the medicine is left in the pen. I’m sure someone will remind me that this is something fabricated for the show but if this is true, that’s pretty awesome.
The last thing I’ll say about this emergency sequence is RIP to the guy driving the bee truck. I don’t know why he thought it was a good idea to get out of the vehicle, but I guess his fight or flight kicked in. I hate that he got stung to death. Oh, and how disgusting was it when Chimney sucked all of those bees out of the other guy’s windpipe. Blech!
Episode MVP?
This was hard for me. I was really impressed by Buck’s heroics this episode, but I have to give Episode MVP to the queen badass herself, Athena Grant. I love how this show is constantly building off of its own lore. One of the best episodes of the series (and the saddest) is season 3’s “Athena Begins”. In this episode, we learn that Athena had a fiancé named Emmett. Emmett is the one who got Athena interested in law enforcement. Unfortunately, Emmett was gunned down by a man named Dennis Jenkins (Glenn Plummer). In that very same episode, Athena solved her late-fiancé’s murder and Emmett was arrested.
Athena finds herself reliving the trauma of Emmett’s murder when she is instructed to do a prison transfer. Apparently Dennis has some tea on his deceased jail mate and in exchange for that information, he will get an early released. Athena is not exactly enthused about the assignment, but she truly is the best person for the job. When she arrives in Arizona, she is accosted by an assassin looking to take Dennis out. She whips out of her gun Dirty Harry-style and commands him to get in the trunk of his car. Her and Denis manage to escape and get to the airport. Athena is smart enough to book an alternate flight back to Los Angeles in hopes of avoiding any additional attempts on Jenkins’ life. However, that decision will prove to be disastrous as we see at the end of the episode a small plane collide with the passenger jet Athena and Dennis are on.
BuckTommy Corner
And now we’ve made it to our last segment. I wasn’t expecting to see Tommy this episode even though I know he will feature more prominently in the next few episodes, but we did get a pretty sweet and heartbreaking scene with him, Buck, and Eddie. Less we forgot, Eddie’s relationship with his son Christopher is extremely precarious since Christopher walked in on his dad with a woman who looks exactly like his late mother. Christopher is back in El Paso with Eddie’s parents and Eddie is doing everything he can to win back Christopher’s trust.
It's Christopher’s birthday and it’s so strange to see our little man as a teenager with a deep voice. I feel like we’ve watched this kid grow up and he’s gone from the adorable little kid to sullen teenager in the blink of an eye. With Christopher with his grandparents, Eddie decides to celebrate his special day via FaceTime. The connection is spotty but that doesn’t seem to dampen the spirits of our three partygoers. While Eddie chats with Christopher, Buck and Tommy hide behind the sofa. They’re both wearing party hats, the kind you wear for a little kid’s birthday party, and Tommy tells Buck that he’s a vision in a cone hat. That was so sweet. I love how much is said without saying all that much. These two are still just as smitten as they were at the end of last season. They seem so comfortable with each other, and I can’t wait to see more of them this season.
Well, that’s my reaction! How’d I do? This episode was so fun and 9-1-1 is best when it gives us these multi-episode disaster episodes. It’s so good to have all my favorite characters back on my television screen. Most of all, everyone looks like they are having fun. I’m seriously looking forward to what happens next. Until next time …

Prequel to:
Complicated - Both you and Chibs don't want anything complicated.
No Words (NSFW) - You and Chibs don't need words to express how you feel.
Moment (NSFW) - Chibs gets lost in the moment.
His - There's no doubt in Chib's mind that you belong to him.
Different - Things are different with you.
It’s your capability that Chibs first fell in love with. He’s sitting in the public gallery watching you argue Jax’s case, his gaze fixed firmly on you because you are a sight to behold. Matte black high heels and a fitted grey pencil skirt that makes his imagination run rampant. A royal blue silk skirt that that illuminates your skin making you look practically ethereal as you tear apart the prosecutor’s argument with a viciousness, he likens to a Valkyrie.
It's the first time you’ve worked a case for the club, and he can already tell that Jax has made a wise choice.
There’s a deliberateness in everything you do, even the scorn in your voice when you object to the DA’s motion, it’s meant to anger your opponent, throw them off guard and it works. The DA starts to get flustered and before he knows it the case has been thrown out.
You celebrate with them that night, a glass of top shelf Scotch before you head on out for the night. Chibs can’t take his eyes off you; he’s never met anyone who’s ensnared him the way that you have.
You’re confident, thorough and sexy as hell.
He thinks about you in the shower that night, his palm wrapping around his cock as he imagines the noises you’d make when he’s inside of you, your fingertips digging into his shoulders when he makes you come on his cock.
You become a favourite around the clubhouse, their go to person for legal advice of any kind. You help Bobby with his divorce, Tig with his investment in Cara Cara, advise Juice on the best business structure for his weed shop. You’re good humoured, genial and you don’t take any shit. You command a level of respect that isn’t easily earned amongst their ranks.
She’s emotionally intelligent, Bobby tells him when the two of them discuss you over a couple bottles of beer. It’s why you make such a good lawyer.
He never hears you mention your husband, you’ve worn a diamond on your finger ever since he met you, but you haven’t breathed a word of the other man.
There’s no love there, he reckons.
It’s later that night that he sees the first of the bruises. He’s smoking a joint outside, enjoying a moment of peace when you join him on the concrete loading bay. You sit down alongside of him, and he offers it to you wordlessly. You take it from between his fingers and take a drag, holding it for a moment before you release the smoke into the air. It feels intimate, sharing a spliff as the two of you look up at the stars above.
You’ve been different tonight, a little subdued. Your smile doesn’t quite reach your eyes. It’s when you raise the joint to take a second toke that your sleeve shifts and he sees the finger marks imprinted onto your skin. They’re distinctive. Black indentations and broken blood vessels, someone’s grabbed you, hard. You don’t say anything when he reaches out, his fingertips gently shifting the collar of your shirt so he can see the patchwork of brown, yellow and green that mars the base of your throat.
These ones are older, starting to fade. His thumb traces over them lightly before he pulls away.
“I’m leaving him tonight.” You tell Chibs as you hand back the joint. “I have a place close to the office.”
“Good.” He says, his voice a little rough because he’s trying to repress the rage that rushes through his system like a wildfire.
He wants to kill the bastard. He wants to beat the living shit out of him until he’s bleeding and begging for daring to lay his hands on you. His jaw clenches as he places the joint between his lips and takes another toke because he doesn’t want you to see that side of him. You don’t need anymore violence right now, you need compassion, support, to know that someone gives a shit about you.
“Do you need help?” He asks you as he watches the smoke evaporate into the air.
“I’m not going to ask you for that.” You tell him, pushing yourself off the loading dock so that you’re standing in front of it instead. “You’re my client.”
“I offered.” He says dropping the joint to the ground and crushing it underneath the heel of his motorcycle boot. “And I’m also your friend.”
Something shifts when he says that, he isn’t sure what but he knows the words make a difference. You’ve been handling it all alone until this point he guesses, and now someone’s reaching out of the darkness and offering you a lifeline.
“Ok Filip.” You say, your gaze meeting his for the first time tonight. “You can help me leave my husband.”

Hoppy obviously notices this and tries to help him but IT ONLY MAKES IT 10 TIMES WORSE.
• They'll roast each other for about 25-30 minutes straight while the others are just watching and enjoying it in the background (they're affectionately roasting each other)
• They're constantly getting into all kinds of trouble
• Kickin SUCKS at flirting like- he'll walk up to Hoppy all cool and confident and some crap like "Hey Hopscotch, you dropped something.. my jaw " or "Did you sit on some sugar? Cuz you got a pretty sweet ass" and she'll just look at him, chuckle, roll her eyes, and walk away (it's so bad that it somehow works)

Bubba: Yeah...
Kickin: *comes back to the window grabs his star pendant then dips again*
Bubba: Sorry..
• When Hoppy finally told Kickin that she's in love with him, he got nervous, didn't know what to say, and just blurted out in the heat of the moment "Dude no way, that's so rad!!"

"OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!!!!" "PLEASE TELL ME YOUR SERIOUS!!" "I'M TOTALLY FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW!!!" "THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!" "THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!" "I'M SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!"
Dogday has basically been a Hopkick shipper since the very beginning... alongside the ladies of course..
Bubba: Seriously! what do you see in that guy?!
Hoppy: He makes me laugh
• Sometimes Hoppy will grab Kickin's hand and run with him while yelling "MY BOYFRIEND IS SO MUCH HOTTER AND BETTER THAN YOURS!!!" and Kickin would just be laughing with the biggest grin on his face
• Kickin feels like he doesn't deserve such a fun, cool, and pretty girl like Hoppy. He think she deserves so much better than him
• He'll sometimes have nightmares about Hoppy leaving him for a different person
• MINI STORYTIME!! (with a sweet ending)
One time at a sleepover, Kickin was having a horrible nightmare about Hoppy leaving him for someone else and when he confronted her about it, she just flat out told him "I never loved you" and "I just felt sorry for you". He couldn't believe what he was hearing. what he was seeing. It felt like his heart was ripped out of his chest and stomped on right in front of him. he was just hoping this was just one bad dream. he was about to cry. he wanted to scream. he just wanted to wake up. then suddenly..
Kickin: *GASP*
He finally woke up from that dreaded nightmare... His heart was beating faster than Hoppy after drinking 10 energy drinks. He looked at the clock, It said 2:50 am.. then he looked around the dark room to see his friends peacefully sleeping then he looked at Hoppy who peacefully sleeping her worries away. He wanted to wake her up and cry to her but he would feel like such a jerk if he did so, he tried going back to sleep... but he couldn't no matter how hard he tried.. he just couldn't. So he just laid there in the dark, trying not to cry, and just thinking to himself "what just happened?" He couldn't help it anymore. He just started quietly crying to himself. Then suddenly he heard Hoppy waking up
Hoppy: *yawns* Kickin? What are you doing up so early? It almost 3:00 in the morni-*soft gasp*
She looked at Kickin, who's clearly been crying for almost 5 minutes now
Hoppy: Kicks, are you okay? Why are you crying buddy?
Kickin: Oh! Hey Hops.. sorry if I woke ya up...
Hoppy: No, you didn't but that doesn't matter. What matters is why are you cryin-
Kickin: You love me right?
Hoppy: W-What?
Kickin: You don't feel sorry for me and you're not going to leave me for someone else right?
Hoppy: Where are you getting all of this?
Kickin: I had a nightmare about you leaving me for someone else..
Hoppy: Oh babe.. *hugs him* don't let some silly nightmare get to you.. I love you
She said as she was fixing his hair
Kickin: Really? You do?
Hoppy: I really do, I love you to the Moon and back *mwah*
Kickin: I love you too suga' muffin.. *yawns*
Hoppy: You still tired?
Kickin: Yeah..
Hoppy: You wanna cuddle?
Kickin: Yeah, that would be nice..
They lay down, cuddled, and embrace each other's warmth until they fell asleep...but little bit they know Bobby was awake the entire time and silently squealing and was secretly recording the entire conversation while silently giggling to herself
(This is my first time ever writing a mini story so PLEASE go easy on me)
That's all for now!
*I will add more later*
🚫THE ART ABOVE IS NOT MINE!🚫
I'm finally done! I'm so sorry this took so long to write Val but I hope you like it! :D

BOSS!BOBBY KENNEDY AND SECRETARY!READER HEADCANONS
taglist: @remotewatch @bloxholden35 @kennediva @h-l-v-kennedy-blog @h-l-vlovesvintage @absurdlyvintage @chemicalw0rld @fortheloveofjos @kimcrystal123 @astro-vibes-bro @tsloverr-13
warnings: 18+, smut, sleazy yet pathetic boss!bobby you can't help but love, bobby being a service top, and workplace s*x.
words: 1159
i imagine your meet cute to be that he saw you around the department of justice and advertised a secretarial position in the hopes that you’d apply 😭
would try to act normal at first as your boss but would increasingly get more and more desperate for you
abandons the pile of work he has on his desk to bring tea and cakes to your desk ( much like a momma bird brings home food for her babies cause he’s WEIRD like that )
has a problem with not meeting your eye for a solid couple of weeks because he doesn’t want to look like a pervert preying on his younger secretary
but your kind of into it so you tell him that…
his other employees are so confused at how many raises/christmas bonuses you keep getting when you literally spend your work week sitting on the edge of bobby’s desk chatting to him and watercoloring paintings of ballerina’s at your desk
and then turning the paintings into bobby for his praise (bobby would have a praise-giving kink let’s talk about it!) to which he would proudly display them in his office like this:
secretary!readers would be such a bad influence on his work ethic like he’s such a lover boy/wannabe house husband
you have to make the first move because lord knows bobby is respectful enough to not initiate anything
is REALLY into spanking. like a freak amount.
you take him into a s*x shop with paddles and handcuffs just to watch him blush with 0 intent to buy anything
you leave the shop together but bobby makes some excuse to cut your impromptu date short claiming that he got an important call
you find out the true reason when you arrive the next morning to find a very inconspicuous box lying at the foot of your desk wrapped in a green velvet ribbon. you open the box to find paddles, whips, and cuffs ( in sterling TIFFANY silver no less )
likes to make love to you with your knees pressed to your chest on the rug of his office
is totally turned on by the voyeurism added factor of having a workplace relationship and makes a game out of how much he can piss of the old curmudgeon’s that he works for in the justice department
when bobby can’t be with you for whatever reason ( like having an aspiring president for a brother ), you watch the jimmy hoofa hearing on your personal sony television set with your hands inside your jersey boy shorts and once bobby knows he teases you ALL DAY about it (authors note: HE LOOKED GOOD AS HELL IN THOSE MEETINGS WHY LIE?)
you ♥️ to hang onto bobby’s tie when he’s f*cking you cause why not
loves to quote anais nïn erotic passages and pass him notes over his desk… acting like it’s serious business. specifically these ones:
you offhandedly try to baby trap bobby (LIKE THE PERVERTED WOMEN YOU ARE) and think your being so sneaky about it but in reality he caught on immediately and is equally into it
bobby just ADORES to crudely touch and play with fruits that look like a certain female anatomy and give them to you with a look like this
you get mad when Bobby leaves you to do LIFE-SUSTAINING things without you like going to the bathroom, eating etc.
your both so obsessed with each other and feel the need to consume every single thing the other has as a means of fostering a deeper connection
is often thought of as the weaker brother so over compensates in the bedroom by adopting a more dominant lean
punishes you for managerial mistakes like using the wrong stamps, or accidentally sending a letter to the wrong person by waiting till everyone in the office has left and spanks your mound, making you count each and every one
but then makes it up to you by assuring you that’s he’s not mad just disappointed while giving your hair many many scratches upon the head
you fake a fever and call in sick to get bobby’s attention, and you make a miraculous recovery after Bobby’s frustrated voice travels through the landline stating ‘that he’ll be coming over to “sort you out before the day’s done”’
when bobby comes down with the occasional fever he turns into the cutest boy in all of massachusetts! ( as if he wasn’t already ) and sucks on your thumb to go to sleep ( you think it’s weird but your also dedicated to whatever makes him feel better )
you and him decide to visit his sister’s house pat to see her and peter’s new baby while your ovulating… big mistake huge
bobby’s cuddling and holding the new beau and suddenly you’re telling him to give it to you raw the same night
he loves to use your shampoo since he’s hasn’t bought haircare items since never and then people start to say that he smells exactly as you do… way to be discreet
you’re such a messy eater with all your foods and without regard to anyone around you/or the vibe of the event you always demand that bobby likes the remnants off your hand. originally it was a purely utilitarian act as you hate the feeling of sticky hands but you quickly realise that it turns both of you on…
bobby would love to cook, clean and manage the household despite holding down a stereotypically masculine job. he regards you in such high (pseudo-religious) devotion that he wouldn’t dream of making you perform traditional tasks unless you explicitly expressed an interest in it
a huge gossiper and VERY interested in whatever morsels you have on the socialites of massachusetts elite class ( which you only have contact through bobby )
would always take the chance to walk you to and from the office
once he takes you to his favourite church that’s when you know your both in it for the long haul and he is well and truly committed
c*ms from eating your out ( he a munch )
he cries while he c*ms occasionally
he loves to walk around naked ( like please have some decorum )
constantly rips your tights and condescendingly tells you that he’ll buy you some more
you buy lots of little rfk pins from the local pop-up and COVER your bralette in them to the point where the bra is barely showing and then splay yourself out on his bed sheets waiting for him to come home…
you don’t answer his calls cause you fell asleep early and he nearly throws up in worry because he’s a true yearner boy unlike some...

Meet Me at the Sea: Chapter Four
Meet Me at the Sea: Chapter Four
Pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Reader
Summary: Your best friend, Bob Floyd, had insisted you join him for the summer at his family's home along the Carolina coasts. You had been hesitant at first, but ultimately agreed to his request. Now, here you were in a new town with strange locals who spoke in hushed whispers and cryptic retellings about glistening scales, glowing eyes, and haunting songs that echoed from the sea. You didn't believe them at first, but when you wake up on the beach one morning after having fallen overboard the night before, you can't help but think that maybe you hadn't imagine the strong arms and deep, green eyes of the man that had saved you.
Trigger warnings: Language, talk of courting and mating, FBI, mentions of murder. Think that’s it.
Word Count: 3.87k
A/N: Here is Chapter Four! A whole lot of setting up what's to come, I think, but hopefully y'all still like it! If you're feeling kind/generous, please consider buying me a ko-fi! As always, reblogs, comments and likes are greatly appreciated! Asks/requests are always open! 18+ ONLY!! You can find me on AO3 under arcane_vagabond where I also post my updates!
Series Masterlist
“Are you still feeling alright, honey?” Susan asked you, checking you over. You gave her a small smile as she gave you a once over. Her green scrubs contrasted against her blonde hair, and the wrinkles around her eyes were more pronounced as she frowned at you worriedly. “You’re still taking it easy, right? Remember what Dr. Carson said when he checked you out the other day.”
“I’m fine, Susan. I promise,” you reassured the older nurse. She studied you for a second longer before turning to fix her coffee.
“You know, it’s a real shame about that Morris girl,” she continued. “She was always such a sweet girl. Wasn’t she in your class, Bobby?”
“No, she was a year ahead with Reuben, Nat, and Jake,” he muttered through a mouthful of Cheerios.
“That’s right,” she nodded.
Bob swallowed his mouthful and peered up at his mother. “Are you going to tell us what’s been going on?”
“You know,” she sighed exasperatedly, “I could have sworn I had told you. Or at least I would have if you bothered to answer your phone every once in a while.”
“You could tell me now?” Bob said sarcastically. Susan glared over at him.
“Tone, mister,” she warned before letting out another sigh and leaning against the kitchen counter. “I suppose it’s been a little over two months now since they found the first body. Everyone thought it was just an accident since it looked like a drowning. But then a couple of weeks later another body washed up, and then another one a couple weeks after that. They were all young women about the same age, and they all appeared to have drowned. Maverick was worried that there was a serial killer on the loose, so he called in a favor to Tom. You remember Tom, don’t you, sweetie?”
“Yeah, I remember Mr. Kazansky, Mom,” Bob nodded. “He was only the my baseball coach for most of middle school and high school.”
“Such a sweet man,” Susan nodded with a small smile towards you. “We were all sad to see him leave, but when the FBI offers you a job, what person in their right mind says no?”
“So he and that other guy are here because of this serial killer no one told me about?” Bob asked her, eyebrow raised.
Susan scowled at him, but let out a sigh. “Tom and his partner, Agent Simpson, got here about two weeks ago when the last body was found. I was talking to Tom the other day, actually, and he told me that there were signs of a struggle, which is why they got called in.”
“Should he be telling you that?” Bob frowned. She shrugged, sipping from her coffee mug.
“I think they’re holding a press conference today to discuss everything. He wouldn’t have told me if they weren’t already planning on telling everyone, I’m sure.”
“A serial killer,” you hummed, frowning. “That’s really scary, actually.”
“It is,” she agreed, eyeing you. “Which is why I want you to promise me that you won’t go off on your own at night, alright? You should be fine during the day time, especially with the summer crowds, but I want you to make sure you have somebody with you after the sun goes down.”
“I will, Susan,” you smiled.
Bob peered over at you from over his own coffee mug. “I promised Dad that I’d take the boat out with him today. I don’t suppose you wanted to tag along?”
“No,” you told him, shaking your head. “Nat actually texted me last night and asked me if I wanted to go and hang out at the boardwalk today, and I told her that I did. You’ll be okay without me, yeah?”
“‘Course,” he snorted, moving to take his dishes to the sink. “Wouldn’t be the first time you’ve ditched me for other friends.”
“If you’re talking about that time in sophomore year when I went with Abby and Rachel to the football game after you insisted that you would be a fourth wheel even though we all told you that you wouldn’t be, then this is not the same situation at all.”
“I beg to differ,” he laughed, heading for the back door.
“You can beg all you want, but it’s the truth,” you giggled. “Oh, wait!”
You got up from your own chair, moving to follow him.
“I think I left my bag on the boat last night,” you told him. “I’m going to grab it before I head out.”
The two of you walked down the stone path until you reached the small strip of sand that led out onto the dock.
“You know I’m not ditching you, right?” You asked him, suddenly worried that your best friend really did think you were trying to leave him behind. Bob snorted and looked over at you with a quirk of his brow.
“Of course I don’t,” he said, making a beeline for the boat that bobbed up and down with the waves. “I don’t expect you to tag along with me everywhere. I’m actually really happy that you and the gang are getting along so well.”
“Okay,” you trailed off. “Good. Because I really like hanging out with them.”
Bob chuckled as he stepped onto the boat, turning to face you. “I know. Stay right there and I’ll grab your bag, yeah?”
You nodded, turning to watch the waves as he disappeared towards the back of the boat. You glanced down when a shine of light danced in the corner of your eye. Sitting on the wood of the dock was a collection of more shells and pearls, and you immediately crouched down to take a better look at them. A couple of sand dollars were added into the mix this time and even more pearls of various shapes, sizes, and colors were mixed in with the lot. You picked each one up gently, inspecting them. Your favorite was the beautiful black pearl that rested in the center of the grouping. The oily colors on its surface danced as you inspected it, and you felt your skin prickle in delight.
Your gaze shifted to the breathtaking conch shell that rested near the edge, and you gingerly lifted it up to get a better look at it. It truly was a marvelous sight. One of the best specimens you had ever had the privilege of seeing.
“How much crap do you carry in this thing?”
You whirled around to see Bob grimacing as he made his way towards you with your simple hobo bag.
“I carry just what I need in it,” you replied to him, reaching an arm out to take the bag.
“What are you doing crouched over here?” Bob asked you, brow furrowing as he handed it off to you. He stopped short when he saw the collection of ocean treasures at your feet. He inspected them before moving his eyes up to meet yours.
“Look at these!” You grinned, gesturing down at them. “These are more spectacular than the last bunch! Have you ever seen such amazing specimens? And these pearls!”
“Yeah,” Bob said uneasily, eyes shifting to look out at the water. “They’re pretty great.”
You stood up suddenly, turning to fix him with a small glare.
“What is up with you?” You demanded, hands on your hips. “You love things like this! You’re the one person I know who gets more excited about this shit than I do, and you’re over here looking like someone just told you they were planning on kidnapping me. You did the same thing yesterday!”
Bob’s eyes widened at your outburst before melting into a sheepish expression as he looked away. He rubbed his hand on the back of his neck before letting out a sigh, looking back at you with an apologetic smile.
“I’m sorry, y/n,” he sighed. “The shells are great, really. I guess I just have a lot on my mind with the murders and all that.”
You felt a wave of guilt wash over you, replacing the annoyance. Your hands moved to pull him into a hug, one he returned.
“Nothing is going to happen to me, okay?” You told him, squeezing him tight. “I’ll be extra careful to not be by myself at night, so you don’t have to worry about me, yeah?”
Bob didn’t say anything for a moment. He pulled back to look at you, a fond smile on his face as he regarded you.
“I’m always going to worry about you, you know,” he smirked, something serious behind his eyes despite the teasing tone he used. “You’re like the little sister I never had.”
“Bob,” you scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest. “I’m literally three months older than you.”
He grinned at that.
“Semantics.”
The street was busy as people walked back and forth along the boardwalk, taking in the different rides and stalls as the excitement for summer festival began to grow. Several decorations littered the pathways, all of various sea creatures and more than a few mermaids. You watched the different families, friends, and couples run around to the different events, and you let out a sigh as you checked your phone once again.
Sorry, Skip! Mom needed help with some things at the shop so I’m running late. Give me half an hour!
That had been thirty-five minutes ago, and you hadn’t heard anything. Sighing, you wiped the sweat from your brow, deciding to take a break from the overwhelming heat. You spotted a familiar, little shop and began walking towards it.
The bell above the door rang out as you stepped inside, letting out a breath of relief as the cool air washed over you. The shop hadn’t changed much in the days since you had last been in. There were new novelty items scattered about, but for the most part, Mrs. Cambroni’s shop was still quaint and cheesy.
The old woman appeared from the backroom, giving you a warm smile as she gave you a once over. Her eyes landed on your neck, an eyebrow quirking as she took in the raised skin that still shone in the light.
“My, my, dear,” she hummed, leaning against the counter. “What happened there?”
“Oh this?” You asked, resting your hand over the mark. You suppressed a shiver as a oddly pleasant feeling washed over you. “I had a bit of an accident the other day. I fell of a boat and washed up on shore.”
“Oh, how terrible!”
“Yeah, but I’m okay!” You chirped. “The doctor checked me out and said I was fine, just a little bruised. Said I was really lucky that nothing worse happened.”
“I’m sure you were,” she murmured, eyes still locked on your neck.
“But I guess I must have hit my neck pretty good on some rocks because the bump hasn’t gone away and the algae practically looks like it’s a part of my skin now,” you joked. Mrs. Cambroni blinked at you.
“The…algae?” She asked. You nodded, and she threw her head back in a fit of laughter. You stared at her in confusion until she calmed down, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye.
“I’m sorry, dear. I don’t mean to laugh,” she said through bouts of giggles. “What brings you by my little shop?”
“Oh!” You cried, moving closer to the counter. “Nothing really, I was just waiting for a friend, but she’s running late. So, I thought I’d pop back in and say hi after I got dragged out of here the other day.”
Mrs. Cambroni gave another hum, a knowing look on her face. She took a sip from the cup of tea she held in her hands.
“Have you found any interesting seashells along the beach since I last saw you?”
“Actually, yes!” You smiled, digging through your bag to pull out the collection you were beginning to compile. “I found these over the last couple of days. It’s strange though, none of these were on the beach. I found a pile of them on our boat and then another pile on the dock this morning. My friend said it must have been the current-”
Mrs. Cambroni’s eyes widened as she coughed up her tea, nearly choking on it as she fought to regain control over her breathing. You reached out a hand to soothe her, and she gave you a grateful smile.
“The current, you say?” She said, barely hiding her amusement. You nodded self consciously, and the old woman shook her head with a chuckle.
“Seems to me like you’ve caught the eye of a sea person, my dear.”
Now it was your turn for your eyes to widen. “What?”
“I’m surprised no one’s told you yet,” she mused, setting her cup down and examining the shells and pearls. “It’s part of the courting rituals for their kind, after all. Just like that intention bite on your neck.”
Your blood ran cold, recalling how your first reaction to the raised skin was that it looked like a bite mark.
“But it’s not-”
“Oh, but it is, dear child,” she smiled, no hint of malice to it, just understanding. “I’m not sure why no one is telling you the truth. Perhaps it’s because you aren’t a local, and they don’t know if you can be fully trusted yet. Or perhaps it’s because you were chosen in a moment of frenzy. Choice is such an important piece of the courting ritual, after all.”
Is that why you’re telling me all of this?” You asked her, brow quirked. “Because you think I should have a choice?”
“Precisely. How can you make an informed decision without all of the pieces?”
“Alright, then,” You started, deciding to amuse the woman before you, “what is it you can tell me?”
“What is it you want to know?”
“Tell me more about the courting rituals. What are they? What does it entail?”
“Well,” she smiled, “that certainly is an interesting first question. It’s simple really. It starts with the bite mark on your neck. What you have right now is called an intention bite. This bite is to let other sea people know that you have been marked as the intended mate for someone. As long as that bite remains on your neck, every sea person who lays eyes on it will know that you are spoken for. If that wasn’t enough of a hint, it changes your scent as well.”
“Are you saying that I smell different?”
“Oh, yes,” she nodded. “But not in an unpleasant way, dear. And as long as that’s the only bite mark that remains on your neck, it’ll fade after a few months along with it. The intention mark is only meant to be a placeholder for the permanent mark.”
“And what is that?” You asked her. Mrs. Cambroni turned her serious gaze to your face.
“That would be the mating mark.”
“And what does that one do?” You murmured, voice barely above a whisper. You weren’t sure why you were entertaining this conversation, to be honest. Maybe it was your longstanding fascination with mermaids that kept you rooted there, listening intently. Or maybe it was because a part of you, one that you were trying your best not to acknowledge in that moment, believed her.
Before Mrs. Cambroni could respond, the bell above the door chimed again, and you both turned to see Nat red faced and out of breath as she looked at you.
“There you are!” She smiled, relaxing as she let out a sigh of relief. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”
“Sorry!” You exclaimed, gathering your seashells and giving Mrs. Cambroni an apologetic smile. “I was getting really hot and I thought I’d stop in here for a few minutes.”
“No, I’m sorry,” Nat said, watching the older woman with a suspicious frown. “I lost track of the time after I texted you.”
You waved to the shop owner as you followed Nat out the door, the sun bathing you in its warm rays. You peered over at your friend, a mischievous smirk on your face as your eyes lowered to her neck.
“Wouldn’t happen to have anything to do with that huge hickey on your neck, right?”
Nat’s hand flew up to her neck, cheeks flushing as she tried to splutter out an excuse.
“So,” you chirped as your friend continued to recover her speech. “Which of the boys is it?”
“What makes you so sure it was one of them?” She muttered, the red on her cheeks growing more pronounced.
You ignored her. “My money is on Javy.”
“How did you know?” She shrieked, earning a couple of stares from passersby. You laughed at her expression.
“I didn’t until just now.”
Nat let out a long groan, hiding her face in her hands. You rested a hand on her shoulder to try and comfort her.
“Hey, it’s okay,” you said. “I think the two of you are really cute, and I don’t think the others have figured it out yet. I just see the way you two look at each other when you think no one else is. I wish someone would look at me like that.”
Natasha peeked out from behind her fingers, an oddly thoughtful look on her face as she studied you. Before you could ask, she was straightening up, a smile replacing her embarrassment.
“Do you think you could hold off on saying anything?” She asked you. You nodded, holding out your pinky to her. She wrapped her own around it, and the two of you shook on it.
“Scout’s honor, Nat!”
“Good!” She giggled, peering around the boardwalk. “What do you want to hit first?”
After Nat convinced you to take a ride on the tilt-o-whirl, you were sure you’d never walk straight again. You groaned as you fought to stay upright, nearly crashing into a man as you passed him. Your shoulder bumped his, and you turned around to look at him.
“I am so sorry!” You cried, hands reaching out to steady him, but stopping when you noticed that he was just fine. And staring at you. You gave him a sheepish smile, but the look on his face remained impassive. If the world wasn’t still spinning around you, you might have said that the green in his eyes glowed in the summer light. Natasha laughed beside you, throwing out another apology to the man as she dragged you off.
“Never again, Nat,” you said, suddenly feeling nauseous.
“I’m surprised you managed to make it without hurling!” She cackled, leaning you against the wood railing so you could catch your breath.
“I wouldn’t be too sure about that,” you muttered, leaning over the side.
“Natasha!”
The both of you turned to see the weathered face of the FBI agent and his partner strolling up to you.
“Oh! Hey, Mr. Kazansky!” She called out with a wave. You turned to face them just as they stopped in front of you.
“C’mon now, Nat. It’s Tom, you know that,” the older man chuckled, eyes moving to you. “And who is this?”
“Y/n,” you introduced yourself, reaching out a hand to shake his. “But everyone just calls me Skipper these days.”
“Ah! You must be the young lady Susan was telling me about the other day,” Tom smiled. “It’s good to finally put a face to a name. This is my partner, Agent Beau Simpson.”
“A pleasure,” the other man said as he shook both of your hands.
“So are you two enjoying the festival so far?” Tom asked, smile still on his face. “This small town isn’t too boring for you, is it, Skipper?”
“Not at all!” You assured him, shaking your head. “I think it’s quite a charming little place! And everyone has been so nice since I got here.”
“That’s good to hear,” he chuckled, eyes falling to your neck. “Where’s the lucky boy?”
You gave him a confused look, and Nat cleared her throat, stepping up.
“It’s so embarrassing,” she started, giving Tom a pointed look. “Javy and I have been seeing each other on the sly for a while now, and I didn’t even think he left a mark. I’ll have to tell him to be more careful next time.”
Tom glanced between the two of you, understanding dawning on his face. He gave another smile.
“Young love is such a wonderful thing, don’t you agree Beau?” He asked his partner, who just smiled in agreement. “Don’t keep it a secret for too long, Nat.”
“Of course,” she smiled.
“You two are being careful, aren’t you?” Asked Agent Simpson. Nat’s face could have been mistaken for a tomato from how hard she was blushing. Agent Simpson seemed to have realized what he said and a blush of his own crept onto his face.
“With the murders, I mean,” he explained quickly. Tom let out a chuckle as Nat cleared her throat. “We just got done giving a press conference. No curfew yet, but we’re advising young ladies to not be out at night on their own until we can find whoever is doing this.”
“Oh, of course!” You said, nodding your head in understanding. “We’re being careful! It’s such a shame what happened.”
“You two were there, weren’t you?” Tom asked.
“Yeah, we were,” you trailed off, feeling the nausea return at the memory of the girl’s body as it lay in the sand. You suppressed a shudder. “It was awful.”
“It was,” Beau agreed, giving you a sympathetic smile. “Which is why we don’t want to see anything happen to anyone else.”
“You don’t have to worry about us,” Nat said, a determined smile on her face as she looked at the two older men. Tom chuckled, eyes moving from her to you, still studying the mark on your neck.
“No,” he said finally. “I don’t suppose we will.”
You couldn’t help but think back to your conversation with Mrs. Cambroni.
As long as that bite remains on your neck, every sea person who lays eyes on it will know that you are spoken for.
“Well,” Tom started, eyes looking over your shoulder now, “you two ladies have fun! We won’t keep you any longer.”
He made to move, and Agent Simpson made to follow after him. The dark haired man stopped just after he passed you.
“Oh,” he said, “And don’t hesitate to let us know if you see anything suspicious, yeah?”
“We will!” Nat called after him as she started dragging you in the opposite direction. The whole exchange felt weird to you. Why had Tom asked Nat about who the lucky man was when he was looking at your neck? Why did he keep starting at it at all? What had he meant by not having to worry?
You took a deep breath, deciding that you were overthinking the matter and that Mrs. Cambroni’s stories had just gotten in your head. But even as you had made your mind up to ignore your questions, you couldn’t help but feel a pulse come from the base of your neck as if it were begging you to keep questioning.
