in your au is zecora an earth pony, or does a different species such as a zebra or something closer to donkeys/asses exist? how does zecora, coming from a foreign land, feel about giant gods walking around everywhere - is this a new sight for her, a complete surprise or perhaps something whispered about in tales in her lands, or is there something similar to living, giant where she is from and in other regions as well?
There are many sentient species in the world beyond the main 3 "ponies" which are not all equines. Earth ponies are horses, unicorns are a species of deer, and pegasus share a common ancestor with griffins.
Horses, pegasus, and unicorns are only considered one species socially, because they can interbreed due to compatible chromosomes. However, the foal will always be either a horse, pegasus, or unicorn with no physical traits from the other species. It will be fully one thing or another, as will its children.
Zebras and donkeys are not earth ponies (horses) but they are closely related enough that they can hybridize with them. Non-horse "ponies" (pegasus and unicorns) cannot hybridize with zebras/donkeys. Hybrid offspring within the equines are sterile.
Unicorns can breed freely with horses and pegasus, as well as their relatives, the Kirin. Kirin/unicorn hybrids are sterile. They cannot breed with zebras/donkeys/griffins.
Pegasus can breed freely with horses and unicorns, but cannot breed with kirin, zebras, or donkeys. Pegasus can breed with griffins, and their offspring are known as hippogriffs, which are not sterile and have grown to create an entire new species. They have hybrid vigor and grow larger than either of their ancestor species.
Zecora is not surprised to see Celestia, as she carries the sun around the entire planet, including her home continent. Celestia is known through the world, and worshiped in some way or another through most of it.
Before and after her imprisonment in the moon, Luna is also known throughout the world as the bringer of night and keeper of dreams.
There are other gods besides alicorns. In Zecora's homeland, there are four great trees that stretch into the sky. These trees are actually the legs of Boabab, God of Life. Many thousand years ago, Boabab walked among Zecora's people, before its long neck stretched into the heavens to look for life among the stars. This god is much older and taller than Celestia, so Zecora was not particularly overwhelmed upon seeing her or any of the smaller princesses.
Other regions also have gods, but ponies tend to only care about equestria and often do not believe other species are important enough to become gods.

This was made right after I saw the jokey answer about prince Hubble on @skyscrapergods blog, and before the stuff about boabab got proposed, so it’s really space themed lol. I didn’t post it until now, cause yeah, but I wanted to share the art. And all the cool ideas about the different gods of this really cool au/world makes me want to draw them too. Idk

You know, there once was a boy who lived on a star. He had hair the colour of golden wheat, and took very good care of his little star. He swept the volcanoes, and removed the baobabs, and took care of his rose.
Ooc question: do you know this story? :)
That sounds really silly
Did he like his star? What's a boabab? Um and what's a volcanoe?

South Afrika 2005 (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) by Achim
Via Flickr:
(2) A Sunland Baobab tree on Sunland Farm (Platland Farm), near Modjadjiskloof (previously known as Duiwelskloof), Limpopo Province. In one study the tree was carbon-dated and found to be an estimated 1,060 years old, plus or minus 75 years. Results of other studies have however suggested much higher ages (up to 6,000 years). The tree blooms profusely in spring and provides a refuge to two pairs of owls, and other bird species. One third of the Boabab tree collapsed in August 2016. (3) Hadada Ibis, Dullstrom. (4) Moonrise in Klein Bolayi near Messina. (5) Amethyst Sunbird in Warmbath. (6) Blyde River and the Drakensberg / Drakensberge, Limpopo Province.

Character Spotlight: Applestar
Tumblr media
Applestar | Former TuskClan Leader | She/Her AMAB | 83 Moons at Death (died 19 moons ago)
Art & Character Bio by relic_crown!
Old Applestar led TuskClan for generations. A stoic, mysterious sabre now remembered for her white mane and thunderous skill in battle, her legacy has aged into a warm fondness for a bygone era. Many of her contemporaries might feel like only they knew the "real" Applestar: though she was never the talkative sort, in one-on-one encounters she displayed a bright sense of humor and charm hidden under her usual solemnity.
Older sabres might also remember a tumultuous beginning to her leadership some seventy moons ago. When the Clan's preferred choice declined the deputy position, a young guardian who had only barely earned the second-place vote, Appledawn, was left to carry the weight of the Clan's future on her shoulders. The young saber vowed to serve her Clan dutifully as she begun her leadership training under Duckstar -- only for disaster to strike barely a season later, when a snake attack killed Duckstar and left Appledawn in line for the leader position at a young age.
A freshly crowned Applestar immediately faced a test in the form of conflict with SunClan. Tense words at Gatherings escalated into scuffles at the borders, then eventually a full-on declaration of war. The resulting struggle was the worst in the living memory of the Boabab Clans, and even cycles later sabres remember lost friends and argue over who was to blame for the war. Certainly Applestar, prickly and brand-new to leadership, didn't help matters -- but the fire of battle gave her the space to prove herself a skilled tactician and, with the support of her batch, an excellent orator.
By the time TuskClan emerged from the other side of the war, Applestar was firmly established in her place at their head. Though she never truly finished learning from Duckstar, the war taught her to lead; for better or for worse it shaped her leadership style throughout the rest of her life. Quiet and militaristic, she took a particular interest in TuskClan's guardians-in-training, always happy to step in and take younger cats under her wing. She made herself into a rock for the Clan to anchor itself to in the many moons of her time as leader.
Applestar's batch, the Butterfly Batch, formed a loose polycule as they aged and settled into roles as senior members of the Clan. In their prime, they were a golden standard of batch harmony: Applestar's success as a leader in her later years may be attributed in part or in full to the support of the other Butterflies. In this time Applestar had a child, who eventually earned the name Greenhowler, and found a close confidante in the form of her deputy Buffalostride.
By the time she died of a strange sickness that spread across the 3 Clans, nineteen months before the start of roleplay, Applestar knew she was leaving TuskClan in safe paws... but even in death, her shadow looms large over the plains.

(In the XKCD comic Time, the description of why the flooding is happening and the map of the area on frame 2907 both match the Zanclean Flood specifically. Although unlike the other floods people have mentioned here the Zanclean flood was too long ago to have actually dispaced humans, and I don't think mountain lions or boabab trees ever grew in the Mediterranean.)
Do you ever think about Doggerland?
Like how fucked up is it that it’s just….. gone.
Tumblr media
I tend to forget about it and then when I remember it again I’m like “Oh yeah! There’s like an entire country sized stretch of land that’s just fucking GONE.
well…. “gone”….

I imagine Boabab getting tickled by the sun accidentally, once, and then very carefully never again.

If you leap from it to the ground to the continent of Corsica below, there is also a ground Shrine surrounded by carved stone- however only the sky Shrine currently offers goshuin. The newest event antagonist in Fate/Grand Order is a culturally insensitive portrayal of a Wandjina. Something that the game should never have portrayed at all. Please read below for the full details
