Okay,  Macallan was definitely a reference to the Midoriyas considering the name means “green valley” and part of Macallan means “fertile land”. Shigaraki is All for One’s “son” here. So All for One is saying he’ll have Shigaraki deal with him if the Aoyamas could bring him Izuku. The 40 year aged Macallan makes me think he was plotting to have them kidnap Inko. There’s one other thing though...

The other part of the name Macallan is “Ellan” which is from “Fillan” as in Saint Fillan, the patron saint of the mentally ill. So, it’s clear that All for One knew of Izuku’s goal of saving Shigaraki/villains and what he thought of it. Either that, or All for One was making a joke about the One for All users being crazy for trying to oppose him.

BnHA Volume 35 - A Brief Reaction Journey

hello! so as mentioned in my last post, I’ve started catching up with the BnHA manga again FINALLY after almost two years, and have made it through a fair number of chapters so far! and since I’m not sure how long it will take me to actually post the corresponding liveblogs, I figured I’d make a couple of posts in the meantime to sort of preview my reaction journey thus far with some good old-fashioned OUT-OF-CONTEXT BULLET POINTS taken from my ramblings. originally I was going to make a single post for all 25 chapters I’ve read so far (up to 367), but I quickly realized that was waaaaay too ambitious lol. so for now it’s just this one, and I’ll put up the vol. 36 post probably tomorrow afternoon.

spoiler warning: just fyi, this post will obviously feature spoilers for chapters 342-350*, BUT it will also include some stray spoilers from chapters 362 and 403 as well, so just a heads up for that if you aren’t fully caught up!

*chapters 340 and 341 are not included because I've already posted full reaction posts for each one here and here, respectively.

Chapter 342

Endeavor being taller than Jeanist just feels so WRONG to me regardless of whether or not it is factually accurate. does this mean All Might is also taller than Jeanist?? I don’t want to live in a world where Best Jeanist has secretly been a perfectly normal sized person this entire time. someone please lie to me and tell me that he is tall

I’m actually so proud of Deku because he’s come such a long way from the days when the mere CONCEPT of even TALKING to a girl was enough to floor him lol. but also I’m legit cracking up at he way he tried to segue into random small talk in the middle of the goddamn apocalypse. gotta be smooth about it!! casual!! you can tell how casual they are because both of them are suddenly struck by the inexplicable urge to fuss with their hair!!

I am so upset right now. out of all of the horrific and traumatic and terrible, awful things that have happened to BnHA characters in their flashbacks, the thing that hits me the most out of all of them is this one image of a sixteen-year-old boy standing before an altar, with his family very much alive and standing RIGHT FUCKING THERE IN THE NEXT ROOM, and yet somehow feeling more alone than he’s ever been. so alone he literally gives up all hope in this one moment. my god I feel all of it and it’s so fucking devastating I keep having to stop typing so I don’t completely break down sobbing

well damn. after a rush of 15 and 13-page chapters, which were all admittedly appreciated by me in my race to catch up to Light Fades to Rain before this coming Friday, Horikoshi finishes up the volume with one hell of a 17 page finale. once again the Tododrama delivers. this was fucking phenomenal

Chapter 343

I have a very simple rebuttal for people who think that Horikoshi might’ve forgotten one “Midoriya Hisashi.” You see…

Horikoshi has never forgotten a character nor a character detail. He’s absolutely meticulous about it.

There’s proof of that in the current chapter 343. It is widely believed that the “fanon” detail of Tsukauchi having a lie detector Quirk is canon for years. Some people say that fans just made that up, that Tsukauchi having such Quirk is truly fanon and nothing lends credence to it. That fans only headcanoned that because his sister (who was only seen in Vigilantes) has a Polygraph Quirk. TV Tropes adds to the argument saying that the info came from the official character book, and the Quirk is called Human Lie Detector.

But then there’s the BNHA translator claiming that he didn’t see anything like that, and I couldn’t find which character book that TV Tropes is referring to, so I couldn’t check.

Today, however, the leaks mention that All For One has a lie detecting Quirk that he took from the ancestor of one of All Might’s acquaintances, finally lending in-BNHA-canon credibility to the headcanon that Tsukauchi might’ve had a derivative of said Quirk after all.

So if Horikoshi came back to indirectly address this, then it’s highly possible that he’ll come back to add to the random details he dropped here and there like…

A few of the unaddressed random details:

1. Izuku’s doctor being Doctor Garaki Kyudai in the first chapter

2. Tsubasa the childhood friend being the Winged Nomu in Hosu

3. Midoriya Hisashi mentioned to have a fire-breathing Quirk and he is overseas and these are the only things we know about Izuku’s father

Guess we’ll just have to wait some more
