This was not by Xiao's own strength, for he had been rescued by the sound of a flute.

The clear, lovely sound of the flute came over the mountains and rivers, carried on the wind to where he lay.

And clear it continued to ring till the first light of dawn brought with it the startled flight of distant birds.

It protected Xiao, massaging his wild senses, and giving him a moment's peace.

XiaoVen AU, in which Xiao is a pet groomer. Venti rescued a puppy, Dvalin, who is a wolfhound/newfoundland dog mix and wants to get Dvalin accustomed to grooming while he's still small.

Well.

Small compared to when Dvalin is full grown.

It starts out innocent enough. Xiao is very good at what he does, and even shares some advice to this first time puppy owner. Naturally, Venti stops by with some donations and even snacks. It'll help Dvalin if he associates them stopping by the dog groomer's shop regularly so he won't associate it with just getting a bath. And Venti can't just show up empty handed each time...

And well, honestly, Xiao could show Venti some hands-on methods for helping keep Dvalin's risk of matting to a minimum, right? He's already there. They can be friends, there's nothing wrong with befriending a customer. Not that Xiao noticed how cute Venti is (he did), or that Venti ever noticed how pretty Xiao is (he did).

And since they're such good friends, Venti doesn't mind massaging his friend. Pet grooming takes quite the toll on a person's back and knees. (Nevermind he could buy a massage for Xiao)

But in time, Dvalin is a BIG dog. And honestly, it was inevitable he'd lay on Xiao and Venti's laps at the same time. He needs two laps. When they're that close together, how long until they chemistry they've been ignoring can't be ignored anymore?

(Probably gonna hold hands, these boys are SPICY. Look at them, rushing STRAIGHT into intertwining their fingers.)
