Removing the aux jacks from audio equipment was such a fucking scam and we all just let them do it

#I’ve been using an iPod classic again recently and I genuinely just like it way more than my phone #but modern audio equipment is all Bluetooth #I resent it so much lol #we had so much power in 2009 #putting batteries in speakers is a way of artificially shortening their lifespan #they last forever otherwise #a great speaker from the 90s is still great today. they DO NOT become obsolete #AND you’re paying for the Bluetooth so you get worse sound for the same price #though to be clear the problem is less the option of bluetooth and more the REMOVAL OF AUX JACKS #this is all also true of headphones (which are just tiny speakers for your ears)#while I'm at it - Spotify hides stats that were completely standard in iTunes or any other music library #and feeds them to you at the end of the year like a special present

I have joined the society of bluetooth earphones

#refurbished for the record #i have been dragged kicking and screaming into the future #my phone doesn't have a headphone jack. my mp3 player does but it also has bluetooth capability. my ereader only has bluetooth for audio #so I figure since I'm going on the eclipse trip in a few months I should get some wireless buds for the train #went with some used skullcandy sesh because they were like twenty-two dollars had had a twenty hour battery life #I ALMOST went with some used Hesh headphones that looked really cool and had fifteen hours but were also forty-nine dollars #which combined with the other things I needed to buy would have put me thirteen dollars over my seventy-five dollar walmart giftcard #I was very tempted if just for the aesthetique~ but realized if I bought the cheaper earbuds I could have enough money for some instax film #and the cheaper earbuds and 2 pack of film plus the household objects I needed put me at a tidy seventy-four dollars and fifty-six cents #so I didn't have to spend any actual money on anything woot woot #the earbuds are blue. which is my favorite color. but they're like a pastel blue. which is like my least favorite shade of blue #ah well I'll sacrifice looks for function and affordability any day #*stares in slight dismay at hideously pink refurbished and thirty dollar instax mini 9*#what I REALLY wanted was some of those urbanista solar-powered headphones/earbuds #but even used/refurbished both were out of the total price range of the gift card(s)#I actually had two giftcards which together totaled seventy-five so that was pretty sweet

i often go without headphones these days bc the ones i have are really chunky and the wire is super long and i need to unplug it from my pc to bring it around and im scared that doing it too much will damage the plug and

Theres a lot of difference between the cheapest wired earbuds and the cheapest Bluetooth earbuds and it is worth mentioning

#both price differences and quality differences #like If i bought cheap wired headphones for the same price as the cheap Bluetooth there would be a noticeable difference in quality #at least like 2 years ago at least #but I doubt this has changed

Thing that suck about new phones: all way too big. Way too heavy. No aux hole. Not my old phone >:(

they sell pretty decent bluetooth headphones for like 20 dollars which, considering inflation, is what wired headphones used to cost about ten years ago. I see plenty of kids who are walking around wearing inexpensive bluetooth headphones. people are just inconsiderate

We failed as a society when everyone stopped wearing headphones.

#the bluetooth headphone market has changed a LOT since they removed the headphone jack #which is what happens when something that used to be a luxury becomes a necessity #inevitably cheaper options do arise #sure the better headphones are going to be more expensive but that was also true when wired headphones were the norm #people are just too inconsiderate now to bother with all the extra steps that bluetooth headphones require #''oh i didn't charge them'' wait till you get home then #''i forgot them/lost one'' wait till you get home then #(i have sensory issues and this is an actual problem for me that just didn't really exist before the headphone jack was removed #which is not me saying I'm against removing it #just that unintended consequences of removing it aren't really about the price of bluetooth headphones but about convenience)

'I prefer corded headphones because they're more convenient '

(convenience is an opinion and just plugging in is more convenient to me than turning on Bluetooth, pairing, making sure they're charged etc)

#i prefer corded for all these reasons #better sound more practical more cheap #and I hate having charge electronics #AND i hate having to turn Bluetooth on and pair when i could just plug in #biggest issue though is lag #if I'm watching video on Bluetooth the sounds lag behind the mouth movements #I'm hypersensitive to this and have auditory processing issues so ive really trained it as a crutch #can't watch dubbed video either and i find animated stuff and high ada content stuff hard too #so i know that's niche #there is no advantage to Bluetooth #put the cord down your shirt #sometimes i would enjoy cordless for distance #but id get radio frequency ones with a headphone jack for that #also i can hear noise cancelling and it makes be dizzy and nauseous so #i picked sound d quality bc it covered most of the things but convenience price is also key for me
