Hundreds of thousands of parrots are stolen from the wild every year, despite national laws and international trade agreements. _ While there are more parrots in captivity than ever before, the number of parrots in the wild is dwindling. _ “As many as 75% of parrots taken from the wild may die from stress, disease, rough handling, crushing, asphyxiation or dehydration during capture and transport even before reaching he consumer.” _ This high level exploitation is causing population declines for already globally threatened species. _ These baby blue-headed parrots (Pionus menstruus) will be released back into the wild after being raised and rehabilitated by a wonderful sanctuary in Antioquia. _ #illegalwildlifetrade #parrots #blueheadedpionus #wildlife #wildliferehabilitation #wildlifetrafficking #babybird #pionusmenstruus #wearealltrulywild
