Vicuña camelids, which freely roam the Andes Mountains, were nearly brought to extinction by over-farming during the colonial era before they were declared endangered in the 1960s. The population has since recovered with the installation of protected habitats and the revival of cruelty-free Incan shearing practices. @loropiana has been at the forefront of protecting vicuñas, working with the Peruvian government and Andean communities since 1994 to safeguard the animal. In 2008, the LVMH brand purchased nearly 5,000 acres in the Peruvian Andes to create a vicuña reserve, for instance. Today, Loro Piana controls much of the global supply of rare vicuña wool.
A @bloombergbusiness report purports that the knitwear trade has failed to improve the livelihoods of some of Peru’s poorest citizens, though. The price paid to Lucanas villagers for raw vicuña yarn has dropped by 36 percent over the last decade, the publication says. Villagers in Lucanas earn just $280 shearing vicuña for Loro Piana, according to the report. (Sweaters made from the super-soft wool can sell for as much as $9,000.)
Despite the success of Loro Piana, the Indigenous people of this region remain deeply impoverished. This is little evidence the benefits of the return of vicuñas population has trickled down to those it should be benefiting most.

Repost from @bloombergbusiness It sounded like the perfect recipe. Fake meat companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods arrived in Silicon Valley promising to halt climate change, protect animals and make people healthier —all while making billions. Venture capitalists did not take much convincing that they were on the verge of the next world-changing disruption. Everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to Bill Gates to the Humane Society of the United States wanted in. But Big Meat is still alive and well, while Beyond’s stock price is roughly 93% off its peak and consumers question health claims. #Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt was shocked to discover $12 million missing from an account he had with a Kingston-based investment firm, according to his lawyer. Bolt was recently told there was only about $12,000 remaining in the account, which was part of his retirement and lifetime savings of the eight-time gold medallist, widely considered one of the greatest athletes of all time. Jamaica’s financial regulator has installed a temporary manager at the investment firm, SSL, while it investigates. Tap the link in our bio for the full story. Ticket sales for Walt Disney's Avatar: The Way of Water have reached the $1.52 billion mark, making it the highest-grossing film released in 2022. The sci-fi epic, directed by James Cameron, generated $33.8 million globally in sales on Wednesday, according to an estimate from Disney. The result puts the film ahead of Top Gun: Maverick, the Tom Cruise-action picture which has generated close to $1.49 billion in ticket sales since its May debut. Rubinex Wins Approval for Organic Pesticide
by Wes Alexander
October 6, 2015 - 6:00 AM EDT
This morning, biotech giant Rubinex announced FDA approval of its highly anticipated organic pesticide.
In 2010, the company said it was developing a cost-effective organic product that could eventually take billions of dollars in market share away from other top-selling pesticides.
The organic standards imposed on the agriculture industry require a small group of USDA agents to monitor at least 4% of farms and production facilities to ensure the use of non-toxic substances. These organic facilities must pass an initial test and then continue to prove that they stay clear of any non-organic pest control substances.

Reposted from @bloombergbusiness What was supposed to be a modest farewell trip turned into one of the biggest tours of the year. In the last five months, Daddy Yankee has performed 86 shows, grossing more than $140 million. Along the way, he made more money than all but seven acts, including concert mainstays such as Garth Brooks, the Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga. Daddy Yankee is one of three Latin musicians to rank among the year’s 25 biggest tours, a sign of the genre’s growing power. During the first half of the year, Latin music accounted for more than 6% of all consumption in the US, according to Luminate, a jump of 34% from just two years ago. It’s easy to write this off as the Bad Bunny effect. The Puerto Rican trap star had the biggest tour of 2022 and was the year’s most popular streaming act. But that would overlook the depth of talent and fandom coming from Latin America. Latin acts accounted for 22 of the 200 biggest tours in the world this year. They also claimed eight of the top 25 spots in Bloomberg’s latest Pop Star Power Rankings. . . #prflagsup #puertoricansflagsup #boricua #puertorico #reggaeton #latinmusic https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm18Ut1ukjI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

November 2022 | A fun visit to the crew at @contourhelicopters near Fort Langley for @bloombergbusiness. They are just one of many helicopter companies in BC that stepped in and ran supplies, first responders, and just about everything else, following the storms and floods across the province just over a year ago. Amazing seeing just how integral the helicopter is to a province like BC. #FortLangley #BritishColumbia #Canada #onassignment #Bloomberg #Bloombergphotos #helicopter #helicoptercompany #BChelicopters (at British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClNEk-mNCCP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What do you think of S saying he hasn’t visited US for almost 2 years in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek? What happened to Hawaii last year? What happened to Mexico and LA just recently? Now extreme shippers are thrilled they have been right all along that all those sightings were staged to cover SC marriage and babies.
Here's the interview, Anon is referring to 👇
Anon, it seemed to me that Sam started to answer specifically to not being in New York in awhile (that's where the Bloomberg interview took place) and then he said the US. I think he was just making "interview chit chat" and not paying attention to specific dates. And also because the Covid-19 pandemic seems to have gone on for SO long, it may feel like 2 years to him, when in reality, the last time he was in NY was right before the pandemic. 👇
Then the pandemic hit and he isolated in Hawaii with Gia Marie (search G, GiaMarie, and GiaSam for all the proof)
Hawaii IS one of the 50 United States, but maybe Sam forgot since it's an island in the middle of the Pacific, and not part of the continental United States. Or he didn't want to mention it given all the hate and threats he got after Hawaiigate.
Commercial break to contemplate the pic above ☝AKA the second hottest vacation pic Sam has ever taken. The first being the Snorkelgate pic, when he was on vacation in Tulum, Mexico with Cody Kennedy. 👇
Wet, sun-kissed, wet, golden, delicious, wet vacation Sam is always a win.
But I digress...
After Hawaii, Sam went back to the UK, for a long time, and then yes, he went to Mexico...which the US has not been part of since 1848 (Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, anyone? Not sure why you threw Mexico in there, Anon). And then, Sam did go to L.A. and other parts of the US, but that wasn't until months and months in the UK.
Who knows what he was thinking, I don't think he was paying attention to exact dates. As for Extreme Shippers using Sam saying that as proof that there's been a baby cover up. How does that even make sense? What kind of dad would Sam be that he would agree to go on "staged trips" so people wouldn't know he and Cait had a baby? That would make him a bad dad. And also, there is NO WAY in hell that the indomitable Caitriona Balfe would ever allow that. Wouldn't the leads of the show about an epic couple having a baby together in real life SELL Outlander even more? There would be NO reason to hide that. It doesn't make sense because it's NOT TRUE.
But none of that matters, Anon, because TODAY at Wizard World in Chicago, Sam himself said that he hasn't seen Cait or her baby yet (at the 30 minute mark). 👇
youtube
There are only two choices: Sam is telling the truth and this means he's not with Cait romantically, therefore not the father of her baby, therefore hasn't seen them yet. OR Sam is a terrible dad who is willing to leave his kid and the mother of his kid to travel all over the place to hide the truth from fans for reasons so convoluted they are literally making my brain hurt right now.
I gotta go lie down. This fucking fandom is exhausting.
