Eh, i'm not sure i agree with the point about needing to have scenes where characters who did bad things apologize to the people they've hurt, especially when it can be inferred that they did so off-screen; Iruka wasn't in the war, Kurama and Naruto only go back to the Leaf after a timeskip, and then there's a 12-year timeskip in chapter 700, and Kurama could have easily apologized to Iruka for what he did during either of those timeskips, especially after Naruto reignited his faith in humanity. Characters can change, regret bad things they've done, and apologize to the people hurt by said bad actions, and i don't think it's necessary to have scenes where they list off all their regrets and apologize to everyone they hurt on-screen.
Also, i don't recall there being any proof Obito had anything to do with starting the Blood Mist tradition, though i could be wrong on that.
Also also, i don't remember the scene very well, but it's fine for Naruto to call Kurama a brother after they spent 12 years being on very good terms and the two of them being nothing but helpful to each other; it's bad if he says that he was one of his first bonds, sure, since that's blatantly wrong, but if he just said that he grew a close attachment to Kurama after all they went through in the og series, that seems perfectly fine to me.
In regards to the Raikage scene, Naruto wasn't arguing that he should forgive Sasuke outright, just that he shouldn't go out and kill him because that'd just cause the people in the Leaf who still cared about Sasuke to hold a grudge against the Cloud, which could spiral into something much worse given enough time; he never tells Ay that Sasuke should go completely unpunished for what he did, just that there's no reason to put out a kill-on-sight order on him.
With the convo between Naruto and Nagato, while it is kinda underwhelming, i think it still works decently, though not as well as Obito's; Nagato's worldview had just been shattered by not only being beaten despite considering himself an almighty god above humanity, but also by Naruto, someone whose life he'd just ruined and who admitted to hating him, refusing to act on his anger and wanting to listen to his side of the story, before proclaiming that he'd find a way to succeed where Nagato had failed and end the cycle of hatred. While it's a bit of a stretch that being proven wrong about being above humanity and seeing one counter-example to his theory that people can't truly understand each other and will always fall back on their anger caused him to change his mind as much as he did, i wouldn't call it a “bad” convo.
It's long so I'll put it under a cut!

Sure anon, but imo, it reads as another dark spot against Kishi's manga -
There wasn't enough screentime for the victims to gain reparation, but we always had the adequate screentime to get the villain's backstory?
As I said in an earlier post, we're eons away from Part 1 Gaara who, just after being beaten by Naruto, apologises to Temari and Kankuro while they're taking him away.
The anime and the manga are different, I know, but even Pierrot (who did wonders for this verse!) had time to show Ino'n'Sakura arguing about a trinket to offer to Naruto and Hinata for their wedding, but no time for, idk, while Naruto isn't sure he should ask Iruka if he can act as his "father figure", Kurama trying to resolve the situation and/or thinking he might be the problem because he killed Iruka's parents all those years ago and deciding to apologise for doing so - with Iruka basically rehearsing what he said in the very first chapter, Naruto is Naruto and Kurama is Kurama, he would have came to the wedding regardless of anything, but he is glad Kurama is now someone who can worry for others like Naruto, and not only the person who killed his parents -
I mean, something, anything else than "and they made up off screen during the timeskip when Naruto gave free wifi access to Konoha".
Also, i don't recall there being any proof Obito had anything to do with starting the Blood Mist tradition, though i could be wrong on that.
I've checked the wiki (i know :() but I was under the impression the Bloody Mist era started when Yagura was the 4th Mizukage? And when we know Yagura was manipulated through Genjustu by Obito...
It's funny because in Boruto we have his grandson (?) who says his family was basically ostracised in the Mist because of Yagura's actions - I guess no one told him or the people of the Mist that Yagura wasn't the demon and despot everyone remembers him as, he was acting like this because he was being controlled ? By Obito?
Grandson dies in the Boruto plot, so hopefully, no one will ever give a fuck about this "who did the Bloody Mist" anymore.
My Bad, I misremembered!
However, Naruto's pleas are completely worthless because, while I know "death for death" isn't solving anything, Ay's brother was killed by a member of Akatsuki - the same organisation Konoha (and Naruto himself!) has been hunting for years know.
Sasuke's situation is a bit complex, but usually, the second someone joins the Akatsuki, they're a missing nin, a criminal and are marked as threats who have to be supressed.
Sure Hidan'n'Kakuzu happened before Naruto talked to Pain, but I doubt Naruto stopped by the village of Waterfall to talk to people who loved Kakuzu to "break the cycle of hatred" and not take revenge on Konoha.
I don't remember if it's during this moment or later, but Naruto basically pleads for Ay to apply a double standard because Sasuke is his friend.
This is where Naruto as a manga completely fails, and the issue that brought this entire discussion lol - characters face no consequences for their actions, especially when it comes to dealing with victims of said actions.
In his novel (iirc?) Sasuke behaved like an adult - or the better man compared to Naruto - and ultimately went to Ay to apologise for his arm, the Kage Summit and everything else, and Ay accepted his apologies.
This is the petulant child/tantrum I was talking about, I'm sure if Nagato accepted to listen back the Tsunade instead of Shinra Tensei'ng her to oblivion, he might have had a change of heart, but he was full of himself because of his might in a "might makes right" mindset - as you pointed out, he believed himself to be a god, so he had to be beaten up before finally being willing to listen to people.
I liked the part where Kurama came out during their "discussion", I remember when the raws (a very long time ago lol) were released people were wondering if Kishi made a blooper with Naruto's eyes, but no! Kurama, was also pissed at his story/discourse!
Naruto being the better man/the adult and not bashing his head in was a great sign of maturity from his part* - but then everything failed, because that discussion he had with Nagato about the cycle of hatred and his backstory was... only between him and Nagato.
Nagato solves this issue before it can arisen, but when Choji will ask why his father died, what Naruto is going to tell him? When Sakura will ask for some sort of reparation/justice/consequence against the man who killed both of her parents (assuming they were in the village when it was destroyed), what is going to happen?
Why only Naruto, as a victim, was allowed to get closure/an answer for Nagato's crimes, and not the 48752 other victims who might have had the same grievances?
And again, the cycle of hatred created by Nagato broke, the second he died to resurrect everyone - so there's no hatred to deal with. Naruto had to deal with his own hatred and sadness, accepted to listen to Nagato, and Nagato "undid" all the hatred he created and on top of that, dies, so no one will ever talk him shit for what he did (and undid). That's it.
We don't know if Sakura would have reacted like Naruto, if Shikamaru would, if Chouji would etc etc.
I know the manga is called Naruto and not Choji, but when the answer is supposed to be an answer for the world, it's completely ridiculous that Naruto gives it, and later forgot to tell to the rest of the village what was the result of his discussion, instead basking in the fame of "having defeated Pain".
There's no greated discussion between Naruto and his friends and the village council or whoever about what happened to Pain, what was the "cycle of hatred" and how to prevent future Pains from popping up.
*even if I prefered Asta's version, but in this specific Naruto situation, instead of listening to Nagato's answer and ultimately only talking about Jiraiya this and Jiraiya that and forgetting the 2k people who died due to Nagato's warped vision of "peace", Naruto could have thrown him his og head protector, the thing he received from someone who should, by all means, hate him because the demon inside of him killed his parents - but no, that man put an end to that cycle and became the first person who ever acknowledged him and became his family - and in his trantrum, Nagato killed that man.
of course this entire arc was build around a "child of the prophecy" bullshit - which later needs zombitachi to remind Naruto that no, no one can do anything alone, they need to be surrounded by people and rely on them - so the "you gave up on ending the cycle of hatred but it doesn't mean you should kill anyone who still tries to get rid of it, like Jiraiya, Iruka, random konohasian 86 or even me" since only naruto/nagato had to have the answer, but well, to be fair, that arc and its entire premise was pretty shitty to begin with.
While it's a bit of a stretch that being proven wrong about being above humanity and seeing one counter-example to his theory that people can't truly understand each other and will always fall back on their anger caused him to change his mind as much as he did, i wouldn't call it a “bad” convo.
His theory completely sucked, because wow very surprising, when you kill someone's loved one that someone is going to be pissed.
Sure that's his entire backstory and motto, iirc, some konoha loldiers accidently killed his family (they thought they were other people?) so in the shortcutted Uchiha deduction by Tobirama (tm), the more you love, the more you're going to hate.
Also, the "people can't truly understand each other" theory is rich coming from the guy who hired a psycho like Hidan.
But in general, in Naruto, there's this weird conflation between "understanding" and "accepting" - people can and will understand each other by fighting, and the loser (if he survives) will understand the winner's pov? Or he died, so he accepted it ?
Take post Pain Arc Naruto, if he met, for some reason, Hidan who didn't die before. What was he going to say? To understand with a guy like Hidan? Would he be worried about spreading the cycle of hatred?
Would Naruto tell Shikamaru not to kill Hidan, the guy who nearly had a boner when he executed Azuma?
What did Pain/Nagato (or even Kishimoto in this manga) meant by understanding?

In lieu of so many people still accusing Kankuro of stealing the Sasori and Mom and Dad puppets, I feel compelled to write in an attempt to defend him. He did not steal them. That's exactly what Sasori wanted him to do. Just look at the 1st gif again, notice Kankuro's sad and guilty expression. Does this look like a man who's dying to steal someone else's belongings? The scene in the cave obviously pains him. He can feel the pain of the battle that had unfurled there. It's further proven, though it's not shown in these images, by him walking towards the puppets and wrapping Mom and Dad's arms around Sasori when he first sees them.
He's such an empathetic character that he could feel Sasori's pain. In addition to that, we don't get a scene of the exact moment he took the puppets cause that's not what this scene was trying to convey. Sasori's philosophy, in his art, is that of eternal beauty. Of being timeless and everlasting. In order for him to achieve that, he'll need someone to inherit his art and spirit, to pass them down to the next gen and the next, so his name and impact will never be forgotten. That's Kankuro's role. He's the link between Sasori and the next generations. It doesn't matter if you don't think he's worthy he's still the only candidate (for frick's sake, he's just 17 for most of Shippuden). Do you really think it would've been better for him to leave them rotting in that cave? To show up in the war and be like, "wassup Sas I saw your life's work in the cave where you died and still didn't pick it up cause it would've been disrespectful or whatever." Do you have any idea how that would've made Sasori feel?
Besides, if Kankuro really wanted power, then he would've also picked up the 3rd Kazekage puppet. The puppet that allows its user to control iron sand, thus making them nearly as strong as Gaara? But nothing is said about the 3rd Kazekage puppet. Because Kankuro wasn't doing it in pursuit of power. He was doing it with hopes of conserving the legacy of Akasuna no Sasori. And I respect him a lot for it.

Hero’s Paradox, The legend of Zelda AU
Tumblr media
Brief summary | [Versión en español aquí]
The story takes place in the present timeline of Tears of the Kingdom, after the encounter with Ganondorf beneath Hyrule Castle and the disappearance of Princess Zelda. In this story, Link—Wild, our protagonist, awakens with more than one remnants of the past: he bears the arm of the first King of Hyrule and is joined by several other Links. These heroes have been pulled from their own timelines, where they had lived in peace after completing their respective adventures.
Now, they have been dragged into Wild’s present-day Hyrule, a kingdom facing imminent doom due to the destruction of the Master Sword and the reemergence of an ancient threat. The central plotline will focus on uncovering how they arrived in this timeline and, most importantly, how to return to their respective timelines.

Orochimarus kid being allowed into Konoha without any proper supervision would anger Tsunade I feel since she has zero context about Mitsuki, who he is, why he came to Konoha(Orochimaru being No.1 Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss Parent), and the like especially as a former Hokqge would get her angry I feel. Especially as Kakashi the other former Hokage was kept in the know and did his own work with the students in disguise.
I don’t see it as a retcon so much as Naruto not trusting her gives her plenty of reason to be angry, especially as he only reveals this after Mitsuki left the village for reasons they don’t know but which can affirm Tsunades worse case scenario. Naruto refused to even trust Konohamari with the same info even though Konohamaru had never suggested he’s a sin of the fathers type person.
Naruto’s failures are even seen in how he didn’t keep his promise with Nagato and Konan about the Rain Village, so the place has become a lawless hellscape that Kara has been using as minor bases of operation.
I'd say it's a retcon in the sense Tsunade is angry at Mitsuki, and not at Naruto for keeping her in the dark.
To Tsunade, Mitsuki is only a kid - Oro's kid, but still a kid. Would Tsunade out of everyone, blame a kid for his parent's actions?
In a sense yes, if everyone but her knew, I'd see how pissed she would be, but imo, not at Mitsuki at all. Maybe at Naruto and Kakashi, for not trusting her and thinking she could really harm/hate a kid for stupid reasons. Ditto for Konohamaru - like those people, and the entire village, was able to accept Sarada without hating her for being Sasuke's child - but for Mitsuki it would be "too complicated"?
Nah.
But I agree in a sense with this entire "issue" if it was indeed supposed to be portrayed as Naruto being a shit kage who doesn't hold his promises - even if he still changed the Hyuga clan like he promised Neiji he would, now they are virtually useless, and the heir of the main branch was transformed in a "dinner is ready!" prop!

I've seen some Narusasu blogs make the argument that Sakura seems to believe that the forehead poke is a a good/romantic thing.
However upon re-reading Naruto Gaiden I've got to disagree with that notion. Sakura is very much aware of the true meaning behind the forehead poke.
Tumblr media
On chapter 8 of Naruto Gaiden we see small Sarada starts asking questions regarding Sasuke's whereabouts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me and other blogs have already pointed out how Sasuke's mission started years after Sarada was born and Naruto was already Hokage, but since Sarada has no recollection of him being present during her childhood it becomes clear Sasuke had no intention in being a present father and playing house with Sakura from the very beginning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So going back to Sarada and Sakura's conversation over Sasuke; Sakura, as we see, becomes overwhelmed with Sarada's interrogation and isn't honest with her. She pretends the reason why Sasuke hasn't been present in Sarada's life is because of this dangerous, grueling, important mission. However we already know that Sasuke went on a mission much later and before that he still didn't care about Sarada. On top of that, when Sarada asks about showcases of affection between her parents Sakura once again is unable to say the truth and instead deflects.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's where some might make the argument that Sakura believes a poke in the forehead is better than a kiss from Sasuke she's never actually received. That's not what's happening though.
Tumblr media
Sakura is deflecting, changing the topic and making Sarada a false promise. She's promising Sarada they'll talk about Sasuke later and she will explain her marriage to him and the truth of his whereabouts. But as we know that never happens hence why Sarada escapes to find her father herself. Sakura acknowledges this years later.
Tumblr media
This is exactly how Itachi used the forehead poke on Sasuke and how Sasuke used it on Sakura that one time. Make a false promise you have no intention in fulfilling and say "maybe next time". It's almost like a cycle of neglect.
Itachi promised to spend time with Sasuke but he never did to the point Sasuke grew to detest the poke and when they reunite for the last time and Itachi apologizes for what he did he doesn't poke Sasuke's forehead anymore, he unites their foreheads instead as there are no more false promises to make nor lies to tell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Sasuke used the poke on Sakura it's after Sakura suggested to go with him on his atonement journey, Sasuke rejects her telling her it has nothing to do with her then pokes her forehead and says "maybe next time" but as we know that next time never happened as Sakura herself had to chase Sasuke after Naruto got married to Hinata because Sasuke never came back to the village.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this time it was Sakura's turn to make a false promise to her child telling her "next time" they'll be able to talk about her dad but that conversation never happened.
When the mission is over and Sasuke goes back to Konoha for one night & the next morning he's about to leave Konoha again we see him poke Sarada's forehead after he sees her get sad over him leaving again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He promises Sarada just like Sakura did to her, just like he did to Sakura and just like Itachi did to him a "next time" that will never come. In the manga Boruto we would see Sarada state her father prefers to spend time with Boruto over her so you already know how it goes; Sarada wanted a present father and her father only gave her the false promise he would be but he never was.
Tumblr media
After receiving the poke Sarada turns to look at her mom and what's Sakura's reaction? another one of her famous fake smiles. Why? because she knows the implications here and there's nothing she can do about it. This is the marriage she chose and fought for.
Also, notice the unimpressed look in Sasuke's face when he's looking at Sakura, but SS shippers swear this man is deeply in love with her lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, some Sasusaku shippers make the argument that since Sakura and child Sasuke blushed when getting poked then that must mean the poke is a positive thing.
Tumblr media
This is a very surface level argument to make that ignores ALL the context surrounding the forehead poke that Kishimoto wrote (usual for SS shippers, that's the extent of their analyses lol).
So why do they all blush? simple, they believed the lies, these were the first times each one of them got the poke and were promised something they would never get.
The blush does not implicate love or any positive connotations. The blush indicates naivety.

I know Kishimoto probably wrote sns gay on accident but sometimes I see things and it look on purpose like double suicide. No way he didn't know what it meant.
I strongly disagree with the idea that Kishimoto unintentionally wrote Naruto and Sasuke's relationship with homoerotic and romantic elements.
While I am in disagreement with many of Kishimoto's writing choices, claiming that he or even the editors working at Jump don't understand what he is writing about is just condescending.
Firstly, let's make one thing clear: no Shonen mangaka since the 1990s has ever unintentionally put homoerotic subtext in their work.
Statements like :
" Shonen mangakas accidentally make their male characters gay because they can't develop their female characters "
Is simply not true.
Shonen Jump deliberately allows homoerotic subtext in their works because it is profitable; it attracts a considerable female audience, i.e., fujoshi, to be interested in their series. This is not a recent phenomenon but something that can be traced back to the 1980s with the advent of series like Gundam, which at that time had a primarily female audience due to the intense personal relationships between the cast.
Take this snippet from an interview with Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of Gundam
What I want modern day Gundam fans to understand is that Gundam wasn't nurtured by the PlaModel enthusiasts. It was young women who first came to the after recording studio, and Gundam is a work that began with their support. And it was a work that had no connection to the popularity of Gundam PlaModels. So I think the most important thing is creating a work that will attract those kind of girls to it again. I don't think movies as an entertainment industry can succeed without touching on that kind of fundamental portion.
The girls he is referring to are those people who are invested in the emotionally charged male-male relationships of the series.
A lot of people mistakenly believe that Weekly Shonen Jump solely targets boys, which is understandable given its name. However, the strategy of WSJ has continuously evolved alongside its readership, and for many of its series, more than half of the audience is female. In fact, many of its titles, such as Prince of Tennis, Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu, etc, have a primary female audience, you can guess why. The homoeroticism and shoujo-esque elements are deliberately added.
To quote a blog that does scholarly work on manga
I also want to make it clear i think any analysis of shonen manga especially Jump manga being soooo friendly to fujoshi and m/m shipping due to misogyny in writing falls flat when you think the authors and editors are thick headed and have no idea how the readers could possibly get that kind of interpretation from their works when Jump has been a STAPLE of the comiket yaoi corner ever since the mid-80’s and their whole shtick is being hyper aware of reader opinion. they know and have always known how female readers read into the works and authors who enter jump only get more and more savvy about how to feed into it. You can’t see the accidental kiss gag and trick yourself into thinking Kishimoto didn’t know what he was doing with that
Now that we have made it clear that whatever written was deliberate, let's discuss whether Kishimoto wanted to portray Sasuke and Naruto in a romantic relationship. This is something I cannot give definitive answers on.. as there are certainly mixed messages
Once again to quote the same blog
When talking about fujobaiting boys manga from now on i will have to put an asterisk on Naruto bc yes i know Kishimoto knows what he’s doing but this really isn’t normal behavior
-
The way that he does everything from being self aware by having the boys get called a slur ( homophobic ) for trying to save Sasuke to the lol wouldn’t it be gross and funny if Kakashi and Gai were gay for each other moments it all contrasted by Sasuke and Naruto playing out a fantasy novel marketed to girls where Sasuke (love interest) turns to the dark side and Naruto (the protagonist) misses him and yearns to have their time together back and is conflicted about the idea of having to fight him one day and the person who comforts him the most during this is Sakura (secondary love interest who gets the short end of the stick) like they can try to repeat the line that they’re like brothers but Naruto doesn’t have siblings like 🤨 how is he sure 🤨🤨 simultaneously to all this Gai and Kakashi are called gross old men for giving each other piggyback rides
But you are right. Kishimoto invokes a lot of romantic tropes that are impossible to ignore altogether or even dismiss as a simple fujobait, and concludes that he never intended to portray Naruto-Sasuke in a romantic light in the text. Libraries worth of content has been written about their relationship so I wouldn't be saying anything new that hasn't been said before.
As you mentioned, the prospect of Shinjū (心中), meaning "double suicide" is invoked between Naruto and Sasuke. At a point in their relationship, Sasuke stands against Konoha. He asks for an ultimatum from Naruto whether he would kill Sasuke to save Konoha or be killed by him, and Naruto says he wants neither. But they will inevitably have to face off against each other because of their obligations as a Uchiha annihilated by Konoha and a Jinchuuriki bound to Konoha. It's also inevitable that when they both clash, they will have died together since they are both equally matched in power. Naruto is ready to face Sasuke's hatred against Konoha and to die along with him. Naruto then says that if the above happens, in the next life they would be able to meet each other without their respective obligations.
This is an obvious romantic trope, especially how straightforward it's played in Naruto that doesn't allow for any other interpretation.
In Japanese theater and literary tradition, double suicides are the simultaneous suicides of two lovers whose personal feelings (人情, ninjō) or love for one another are at odds with giri, social conventions or familial obligations.
Lovers committing double suicide believed that they would be united again in heaven, a view supported by feudal teaching in Edo period Japan, which taught that the bond between two lovers is continued into the next world.
Dying together, because of their respective obligations, despite their feelings for each other, with the hope of being able to unite again in the next life. Is this literally not Naruto and Sasuke?
When one talks of the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke, the Land of Waves arc is considered one of the most pivotal points in the trajectory of their story. Their relationship is frequently made analogous to that of Haku and Zabuza.
And one of the most controversial points I will make is that Kishimoto added blatant romantic intent in Haku and Zabuza's relationship, portraying them as lovers, to make their relationship resemble wakashūdō.
In the warrior (samurai) class it was customary for a boy in the wakashū age category to undergo training in the martial arts by apprenticing to a more experienced adult man. The relationship was based on the model of a typically older nenja, paired with a typically younger chigo. The man was permitted, if the boy agreed, to take the boy as his lover until he came of age; this relationship, often formalized in a "brotherhood contract", was expected to be exclusive, with both partners swearing to take no other (male) lovers.
Wakashū were prominently featured in Edo-period woodcuts, where they are often distinguishable from the female beauties in the same pictures only by a sword or the shaved spot on the crown of their head. In erotic prints ( shunga ), they are often depicted as more feminine than their female partners.
You can't possibly believe that Kishimoto, who is known to imbue Japanese historical and mythological motifs throughout the series, does this by accident.
Why would Kishimoto make Naruto and Sasuke's relationship be compared to that of Haku and Zabuza, two people with heavy romantic implications? It also doesn't just stop at Land of Waves. Even the ending scene of the series, where Naruto and Sasuke lie together, is made to be a direct parallel to the final moments between Haku and Zabuza.
I am not condoning 'shipping' Zabuza and Haku at all, and I think people have the right to be repulsed by a romantic reading of their relationship, but this is a very obvious observation.
Even to an average viewer without any shipping intentions, Zabuza and Haku's relationship has always been weird and it has spawned countless discussions speculating the nature of it
Tumblr media
Kishimoto could have easily used a less controversial and more recognisable platonic relationship as the one that onsets the trajectory of Sasuke and Naruto's relationship, but he didn't.
Why?
Decide for yourself.

When I had started writing this blog, I was told by other SNS to tag my Sakura and Hinata posts as anti Sakura and anti Hinata so I wouldn't be hounded by their crazy ass stans. Well that didn't work. Lol. Anyway, I began to tag my posts as Haruno Sakura and Hyuuga Hinata, because even if I don't like them, my analysis of them is based on their characters, I am rock solid secure about it and I don't care who reads it and cries about it.
My suggestion to SNS fans would be, take the antis head on if you wish so. Take any anti SNS head on. Any single one of them. Confront them if you want, without hesitation or doubt. No need to be afraid.
As a SNS shipper, just know you are in the right. I am ready to sign it on a bond paper. Just know that they are ALL CATEGORICALLY WRONG, and you SNS stans are right, as long as you have sincerely read and understood the manga.
Know that you are backed by the author of the manga, media experts and aficionados and several casual fans who value accountability and have a mature outlook towards storytelling and life. Say it with arrogance and conceit even, because sometimes intimidation works just as well. Don't waste your energy on things that don't deserve it. But if you do choose to confront, never be meek, never surrender. Be cool about it or aggressive, your choice but don't feel disheartened at their takes, they don't know what they are talking about. Laugh at them if you want, that's what their theories are good for anyway.
Enough of this homophobic caterwauling. This is 2024, and this is a global fandom with many fans who are impressionable and naive. Let them have the advantage of understanding the true meaning of this manga. You are the torchbearers of Naruto's legacy, like I have said before, SNS fans are true Naruto fans, the rest are just posers and bigoted dumbfucks. No more bigotry, no more prejudice, no more bullshit. It's high time. Enough time has passed and all the 'they are just friends waaah' or 'they are just brothers waaah' or 'It is unintentional waaah' type of takes need to GO! Naruto fandom is your space to explore, take advantage and have your fun and thrill too. YOU own it. Go crazy. Saturate the fandom, open up the discussion, destroy the prejudice and dumbfuckery, confront whothefuckever you wish, and do it with relish because you are right and they are wrong. Period.
Do it. Be bold, be strong, be proud. You have the fandom's support, passionate support too because that's what this story engenders in responsible fans. Confront them without hesitation if that's your vibe and smack them in the face with panels from the manga and explain them too, they are quite easy to decode. Just know you can do it because that's what the story is supposed to be, you can't miss it. High time to change this heteronormative narrative. Naruto is a gay love story and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Okay, so, here’s something I’ve been thinking about, and now I want your thoughts.
I’m new to the Voltron fandom, which means I’ve been grave-robbing old blogs to read meta, revisit old theories, and see what people were saying at the time. One thing that’s struck me as odd is how often people argue that Klance shouldn’t be considered a Rivals to Lovers ship—because, in their opinion, Lance wasn’t even close to Keith’s level. Hilariously, they’ll often say that James is Keith’s real rival, which... feels like a stretch. It’s mainly a one-sided grudge on James’s part.
What’s odd is that many beloved rivals-to-lovers ships also start with that same imbalance. Take Sasunaru — it begins with Naruto chasing Sasuke’s recognition, while Sasuke largely ignores him. The rivalry is lopsided, but that doesn’t disqualify it. If anything, it’s a classic dynamic: one side burns hotter, until the other is pulled in.
But here’s where Klance does feel different to me. Lance accepted that Keith was the universe’s chosen one—the destined leader, the better pilot, the figure everyone looked to. And instead of resenting him for it, Lance made peace with it. Lance chose to believe in Keith. There was no grand duel, no dramatic declaration, no "I finally caught up to you/beat you"—just Lance, with a heart full of belief, quietly choosing Keith over his own dreams.
How do you think Klance differs from or fits into the classic rivals-to-lovers trope?
- Lance Anon
Ohhhhh my god ok first of all I love you forever and ever for asking me this question and drawing a direct parallel to Sasuke and Naruto because I LOVE Naruto and I especially love Sasuke and Naruto’s relationship. If there’s anything I love talking about more than Voltron it’s Naruto. Secondly, it’s soooo funny that you did this, I’m not sure if it was on purpose but I actually have already written an extensive analysis on the similarities between Sasuke and Naruto vs. Keith and Lance in Voltron is a Love Story.
Before I basically copy-paste everything that I wrote there, though, I feel like I do have to clarify a few things (I've put it under the cut cause this turned out wayyy longer than I planned lol).
Firstly, what you say here:
it begins with Naruto chasing Sasuke’s recognition, while Sasuke largely ignores him.
Well... it seems that way upon retrospect, but in fact Naruto's main drive in the very beginning of the manga was his desire to be recognised by the village as a whole rather than just by Sasuke:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Vol. 1, Chapter 001: Uzumaki Naruto, p. 13 ; Vol. 1, Chapter 004: Hatake Kakashi, p. 6]
This is because he is very often rejected by everyone in the village and ignored by them, since he has the nine-tailed fox inside of him. He lashes out and starts trouble to draw their attention to him. But once his teacher, Iruka, treats him well and acknowledges him, Naruto decides to try for something nobler, as we see above.
He doesn't start desiring for Sasuke's acknowledgement until after Sasuke saves him:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Vol. 2, Chapter 010: Two Down, p. 14]
Naruto was very impressed by Sasuke's skills, and he wants to live up to his strength.
And Sasuke doesn't ignore him at all, even though he tries to appear that way, because he defends Naruto when Sakura talks shit about him:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Vol. 1, Chapter 003: Uchiha Sasuke, pp. 21-22]
and all of his fond memories of Naruto (that he thinks about as he's dying after he saved Naruto) include almost all the times he "ignored" him:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Vol. 3, Chapter 027: Awaken !!, p. 14]
Sasuke is also driven to get stronger by Naruto:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Vol. 8, Chapter 066: Sakura's Request, p. 15 ; Vol. 20, Chapter 176: Bitter Rivalry, p. 11]
So, they motivate each other a lot, and their rivalry is not as lopsided or one-sided as it seems.
As I said in Voltron is a Love Story, Lance and Keith resemble Naruto and Sasuke extremely much, and follows their story progression almost to a T. I’ll insert here everything that I wrote about their similarities, though a bit more condensed (if you’d like to read the whole thing I encourage you to read all of Voltron is a Love Story). Additions are marked in Green.
"Keith and Lance’s rivalry is modeled very closely after Sasuke and Naruto. Lance and Keith are direct contrasts to each other, the same way Naruto and Sasuke are direct contrasts to each other, all the way down to their color palette. Naruto and Sasuke’s color palettes are yellow/orange and blue/purple which are on opposite sides of the color wheel from each other.
Naruto and Sasuke also receive sun and moon tattoos, emphasising their contrasts further:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Chapter 672: Night Guy…!!, p. 8]
Here are a few examples from a post I made a while ago, of the contrasts between Lance and Keith:
"Thinking about Keith living in the desert for a year and Lance missing the beaches of his home. Thinking about how alone Keith is vs how big lance’s family is. Thinking about quiet Keith vs loudmouth Lance. Thinking about Keith being short-range vs Lance being long range. Thinking about Keith being impulsive vs Lance being thoughtful. Keith being an early riser vs Lance sleeping in. Thinking about Keith being yin and Lance being Yang. I am not ok btw"
(quoting to preserve the image limit.... damn you tumblr let me upload more than 30 images !!!)
As well as Lance being an active protagonist vs Keith being a passive protagonist, as mentioned in the main character analysis. (still not ok to this day btw.)
And a screencap from Season 1 that pretty much sums it up:
Tumblr media
[Season 1, Episode 7: Return to the Balmera, 18:59]
Moreover, remember, when I compared Voltron to ATLA, which is an actual war story, and found it lackluster in comparison? Well, when I compare it to Naruto’s world-building, a lot of things align.
In Naruto, we also don’t see anyone who isn’t a soldier. We know that a village exists of ordinary people, whom the soldier villages are meant to protect, just as we know ordinary people of the Galra must exist, ‘cause otherwise, how have they kept going for 10,000 years? But we never see them. Just like how we never see them in Naruto.
And another curious similarity is that Iruka, a very important authority figure to Naruto, has a scar across his nose… just like Shiro, who is a very important authority figure to Lance…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Lance and Keith aren’t just modeled after Naruto and Sasuke concept wise. In fact, their story progression, and even some details are eerily similar to Naruto and Sasuke.
In Naruto, Sasuke is introduced as someone Naruto hates because he “acts all cool.”. But we later learn that Sasuke actually means a lot to Naruto and vice versa.
Tumblr media
[Naruto, chapter 228: Kakashi’s Premonition, p. 10]
Lance similarly introduces Keith as someone he hates, because Keith is always trying to one-up him. But we later learn that they mean a lot to each other:
Tumblr media
[Season 8, Episode 11: Uncharted Regions, 06:38]
Another way in which Keith’s introduction is similar to Sasuke’s introduction, is that both Naruto and Lance make some sort of comment on Sasuke and Keith’s appearance…
Naruto saying Sasuke “acts like he’s cool”
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Chapter 003: Uchiha Sasuke, p. 6]
and Lance drawing attention to Keith’s mullet
Tumblr media
[Season 1 Episode 1: The Rise of Voltron, 46:00]
and again, after some time has passed:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, chapter 285: The Person from Root!!, pp. 6-5]
Tumblr media
[Season 6, Episode 4: The Colony, 08:04]
and both Naruto and Lance have a strong reaction to them:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Chapter 003: Uchiha Sasuke, p. 6]
Tumblr media
[Season 1 Episode 1: The Rise of Voltron, 30:37]
Another parallel is Keith’s decision to leave, impacting Lance deeply. In Naruto, Sasuke also leaves, impacting Naruto deeply. So much in fact, that it becomes the plot of the whole last half of the manga, with Naruto chasing after him to save him from darkness.
Sasuke left because of Naruto, because he wanted to break the bond between them that he deemed as a weakness, keeping him from plunging into darkness and despair. In an effort to become stronger, he has to end all of his bonds with the people he holds most dear. This is the whole motivation behind the first Valley of the End fight, as well as the second.
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Chapter 698: Naruto and Sasuke V, p.19]
Similarly, Keith also left because of Lance.
Tumblr media
[VLD, Season 4, Episode 1: Code of Honor, 15:34]
But he lied about it, just like how Naruto lied about why he chased Sasuke:
Tumblr media
[VLD, Season 4, Episode 1: Code of Honor, 21:18]
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Chapter 470: Killer B vs. Kisame!!, pp. 5-6]
So, Keith left because of Lance, similarly to how Sasuke left because of Naruto. And we know that Naruto is very motivated by Sasuke, because that’s the point and plot of the whole manga. But is Lance motivated by Keith? Well, what do we know Lance wants more than anything? He wants to prove himself. Specifically, he wants to prove himself worthy. And what helped spurn this on, again? That’s right. Iverson’s comparison to Keith in the very first episode.
It is in Iverson’s comparison to Keith that Lance becomes motivated to find Pidge on the roof, which catalyses the plot, because Lance wants to prove that he’s earned his spot in the fighter class. What better way to show that than to tackle the problem Iverson pointed out, their lack of teamwork. So, Lance catalyses the plot by looking for Pidge, making sure all three of them are there on the roof when Shiro crashes, which is motivated by the comparison to Keith. And he further catalyses the plot when he follows Keith to the tent. His rivalry with Keith drives him, but it also blinds him.
Let’s take the tests from the second episode as an example. Here, Lance is pretty confident in his bond with the Blue Lion, and in fact, he seems to be doing pretty well, until he starts goading Keith into going faster, being blinded by his rivalry with Keith, and his need to measure up with him. Which is very interesting. Almost like it’s foreshadowing for how Lance can’t reach his full potential until his relationship changes with Keith, and he stops measuring up with him and competing against him. And when can he do that? When he’s equal with him. Which is what started happening in season 3.
Tumblr media
[Season 3, Episode 2: The Red Paladin, 10:20]
It wasn’t until Lance accepted Keith as the new leader and himself as his right-hand man that Lance really started to grow, as we discussed in the Red Lion section above. This is when he sets aside his own ego to strengthen the team and support Keith, and he finally opens up about his true insecurities.
But they aren’t completely equal here, because Keith is the head of Voltron, the “ultimate leader” of the team, and Lance already feels inferior to him, having taken his spot in the Garrison without having “earned it”, no matter how much Keith listens to Lance. It only takes Keith pulling rank to completely wipe away any illusion of equality between them, which is what happens with Shiro in season 5 [Season 5, Episode 3: Postmortem, 04:14]
Similarly, Naruto is shown to compare himself a lot to Sasuke, wanting to become as good as him as I also discussed above. [Naruto, Chapter 010, p. 17; chapter 227, p. 16]
Just like Lance, this was also spurred on from a comparison by his teacher. [Naruto, Chapter 003, p. 12]
And everyone sees that Naruto is purely motivated by Sasuke:
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Vol. 35, Chapter 319: The Source of the Commotion, p. 21]
Another parallel that I forgot to mention in Voltron is a Love Story is that Keith is the first one to acknowledge and listen to Lance just as Sasuke is the first one to acknowledge Naruto (aside from Iruka).
Tumblr media
[Season 3, Episode 3: The Hunted, 12:51]
The way Naruto manages to become equal to Sasuke is by resolving to save Sasuke. His pure resolve and his pure love for Sasuke is what gives him strength to fight against him, directly contrasting Sasuke’s pure resolve to end their bond, seeing his love for Naruto as a weakness instead of as a strength.
Furthermore, Naruto is a main character without an antagonist. Think Demon King level of antagonist. There are villains he defeats, but no one villain whom he has to overcome as a part of his arc. In fact, Naruto’s wish of being accepted in the village is fulfilled already once he defeats Pain. So, why didn’t the manga end there? Because Pain isn’t Naruto’s antagonist. No one is. The closest we get to an antagonist for Naruto is Sasuke. But Naruto doesn’t want to overcome him, he wants to be equal with him, because Naruto loves him.
Huh… who else do we know in this show, who checks all the boxes of being a main character, but doesn’t have an antagonist? Lance. Man, this guy keeps showing up at the end of everything, huh?
Similarly to Naruto, the closest Lance has to an antagonist is Keith.
Remember when I said this, in Lotor’s subsection?
“In season 1 of ATLA, Zuko’s antagonist seemed to be Aang, the same way Aang’s antagonist seemed to be Zuko. But in the season 1 finale, we realize that this isn’t true. Aang’s true antagonist is Firelord Ozai and Zuko’s true antagonist is his sister, Azula. Season 1 finale is when Zuko becomes a true deuteragonist to Aang.”
Well, I argued there that this mirrors Lotor becoming Allura’s deuteragonist, after it seemed like he was Keith’s antagonist but remember, they aren’t the main characters. Lance and Keith are.
So, could Keith be a deuteragonist to Lance? No. Although Keith and Lance’s arcs are intertwined like Zuko and Aang’s are, both of their arcs are about love, unlike Zuko and Aang, but similar to Sasuke and Naruto. Keith is Lance's love-interest, the same way Sasuke is a love-interest to Naruto. Allura is a red-herring for Lance's love interest, the same way Sakura is a red-herring for Naruto, and the same way Zuko and Aang are red-herrings for each other, masking their true antagonists. In the case of Naruto and Lance, Sakura and Allura are masking their true love-interests, Sasuke and Keith, respectively.
Furthermore, Keith is a very significant part of Lance’s arc, because Keith is also one of the sources of it! This is why Allura is foiled against Keith, because of both of their significance to Lance. But unlike Allura, Keith helps Lance fulfill his arc. In Naruto, Sakura is foiled against Naruto to emphasise the contrast between Naruto’s pure selfless love for Sasuke, and Sakura’s selfish love for Sasuke, pointed out in this analysis. Similarly, remember when I said that Allura and Keith were often mirrored invertedly, to emphasise a contrast between them? Well, this is the purpose. Allura is foiled against Keith to emphasise the contrast between Keith’s love for Lance and Allura’s rejection of Lance.
Naruto is a great example of a story people think is about war but is actually about love. The whole point and plot of the manga is Naruto’s love for and devotion to Sasuke and vice versa. The manga ends with Naruto and Sasuke reconciling after being apart for the whole manga, with Naruto confessing his love for Sasuke and with Sasuke happily admitting defeat to Naruto’s love for him.
Tumblr media
[Naruto, Chapter 698: Naruto and Sasuke V, p. 23]
Sasuke’s resolve to end their bond lost to Naruto’s resolve to keep it.
I can confidently say that Lance and Keith are mirrored in Naruto and Sasuke. Their story progression follows that of Naruto and Sasuke almost exactly. But there’s something missing. The last big fight.
Lance’s arc comes to a head and is fulfilled once he’s on equal footing with Keith. Throughout the show, Lance keeps following in his footsteps, again, to the tent, to the Blue Lion and to the Red Lion. Lance even gets a sword in season 5, which is Keith’s weapon.
Even when Keith is the head, he is the one who forms the sword, even though it materializes from the Red Lion, so it should be Lance:
Tumblr media
[VLD, Season 3, Episode 6: Tailing a Comet, 18:41 ; Season 6, Episode 7: Defender of All Universes, 02:03]
But it’s not. Again, because it’s Keith’s weapon. The show has effectively pavloved us to associate swords with Keith. So when Lance unlocks his sword form with the red bayard (Keith’s original bayard)
Tumblr media
[Season 5, Episode 3: Postmortem, 9:16]
We are meant to be thinking of Keith. Lance activated his sword form right after Shiro yelled at him to stay out of it, which hurt Lance a lot. And he went to the training room to cope. The only other character that we’ve seen train alone in the training room is Keith, so we’re meant to associate this scene with Keith, and so does Lance. Keith was most likely on his mind while he was training, thinking about how things seemed to be better when Keith was there… which triggered the sword form. All of this combined foreshadows and suggests a fight between the two. Again, similar to how Naruto unlocks new powers every time he thinks about Sasuke and vice versa, that keeps foreshadowing a fight between them.
And it is further suggested by all the parallels to them.
Naruto is very famous for all the parallels to Naruto and Sasuke in its own story, their relationship mirrored across generations, but always with something slightly different, pointed out in this analysis. The parallels are meant to emphasise how Naruto and Sasuke are different from previous generations. They can break the cycle, because they love each other.
Well, would you believe me if I say that Keith and Lance are also paralleled?
Tumblr media
[Season 3, Episode 7: The Legend Begins, 22:13 ; Season 6, Episode 5: The Black Paladins, 16:38]
You don’t have to believe me, you just have to look at these screenshots. Notice how in both fights, everyone involved fought with swords, even Shiro who usually never uses a sword, opting to just use his hand instead. Even he used a sword in his fight against Keith.
Every generation of Red and Black paladins have had a standoff, except for Lance and Keith. In all the fights, one of the paladins died (well… except for Shiro but we already know he was supposed to die… until he didn’t), and Keith and Lance were supposed to break the cycle, because of their love for each other; specifically, because of Lance’s love for Keith. Instead of fighting Keith to overcome him, he fights Keith to save him.
The foreshadowing doesn’t just stop in their parallels. We also have massive indicators from scenes in the Astral Plane throughout the show, which consistently feature two red and blue stars. This has been pointed out many times before, and I am pointing it out here, again:
Tumblr media
[Season 2, Episode 7: Space Mall, 15:57]
Tumblr media
[Season 6, Episode 6: All Good Things, 01:21]
These are all shots of Blue and Red stars consistently animated in the Astral Plane across seasons and production eras. Both of these scenes involved a fight/standoff between two Black Paladins (Zarkon vs. Shiro and Shiro vs. Keith). This not only foreshadows a fight between Keith and Lance, but it further implies that Lance would be a Black Paladin for their fight/standoff in the Astral Plane.
As I’ve argued throughout this whole thing, Lance’s arcs of love and self-worth tie into each other. Similar to Naruto, Lance becomes equal to Keith once Lance has a pure resolve to save Keith through his love for him. In the showdown, both Lance’s arcs of insecurity and sexuality will be fulfilled in the fight, when he ultimately declares his love for Keith, making Keith “lose” the fight to Lance’s love, the same way Sasuke “lost” to Naruto’s love."
There was no grand duel, no dramatic declaration, no "I finally caught up to you/beat you"
The reason that we never saw this fight happen though is because it was tied to Lance’s ascension to the Black Lion which the writers were told to abandon in the feedback they received when they sent in the scripts for approval. Otherwise the lead up to Keith and Lance’s fight is as consistent as the foreshadowing of Lance’s ascension to the Black Lion, which I also establish in Voltron is a Love Story.
This is what I say in the IP & Other Legal Things section of Voltron is a Love Story:
"I think Bob Koplar wanted Lance removed as Black Paladin for many reasons, most likely because it was tied to a Klance arc, establishing them as canon, and he didn’t want [a queer] relationship in a show he deemed as a boys show [1 mentioned multiple times], a queer relationship which involves a legacy character and the main character. But I think another reason is much the same as why he wanted Lotor removed. He wanted to maintain the status quo of what he saw Voltron as: Lotor as the villain, and Voltron being led by Keith, and only Keith. Keith is a legacy character, meaning that his story isn’t just up to DreamWorks, or Netflix, but it’s up to its owner, namely WEP. Keith always ends up as the Black Paladin. And that legacy would be ruined if all of a sudden Lance is now the Black Paladin. He didn’t want another character competing for the role, he wanted Keith to be the pilot of the Black Lion in the endgame."
So to answer this question of yours:
How do you think Klance differs from or fits into the classic rivals-to-lovers trope?
Klance fits perfectly, because it is almost exactly modelled after the most famous rivalry duo, Naruto and Sasuke. But the resolution to their rivalry was cut out of the series.

Introduction post
This is a blog where I post about my obsession with the following characters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Information under the cut below:
What type of content can you expect?
First of all, I can't say I'll be active on this blog a lot. I made this blog when these characters were at the forefront of my mind and I had time for this, but now a lot of things are different and I can't say how often I'll post. So keep your expectations LOW
Otherwise, I'll be posting fanfiction, headcanon lists, fanart, anything really.
Why this blog had to be made in the first place:
I first watched Naruto back in 2020 when I was in 6th grade. And I immediately became obsessed with the characters from the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. I'm talking about the sound four, if you didn't understand. Then, in June of 2021, I decided to read a fanfiction of them (fanfiction.net my beloved). And it just spiraled from there
I love these characters so much you can't even understand. I have so many OCs, so many theories, many AUs, SO MANY headcanons, you get my point. For 3 years these guys (especially Tayuya <3) were practically the only thing I used to think about when it came to fandom content, so much so that at this point they feel like a part of me. That's why it's kinda sad that that obsession has kinda gone away now lol. BUT ANYWAY,
Yeah, since these guys were such a major part of me for so long, I have a blog dedicated to them, go figure.
Some of my ships include:
Tayuya x Sakon
Tayuya x Kin
Juugo x Kimimaro
+more, way more, but I can't seem to think of them right now
so yeah, that's about it :)
