Holidays

Hearth and Blitz lead a celebration of Yule at the Chase Space

Most of the kids are excited to have a new tradition, because many of them have negative feelings about the holidays they grew up with

Actually, Hearth has negative memories of celebrating Yule in his childhood, but creating new memories is helping him

They have a bonfire in the Mansion's back yard and everyone roasts marshmallows (that part not strictly Norse)

All the kids get a present from Hearth and Blitz

There's no expectation that the kids give anything back, but most of them give Blitz and Hearth handmade holiday cards, which they treasure dearly

Blitz is a brilliant present-giver. Everyone gets a piece of clothing or an accessory that perfectly fits their style

After the first time celebrating Yule, the kids research other pagan holidays

The next Þorrablot (husband's day/father's day) the kids surprise Blitz and Hearth with breakfast in bed

Blitz cries

Magnus always gives Blitz and Hearth gifts on Þorrablot

He also gives Hearth flowers on Góublót (wife's day/mother's day), which Hearth outwardly dislikes but secretly loves

-Our main cast (floor 19+Blizstone+Sam and Amir) go to renfairs.

-depending on the day different people drag everyone else to activities

-Alex likes painting everyone’s nails

-only rlly likes guys. Any female ‘attraction’ was just gender envy

-Alex’s hands are frequently covered with clay/paint

-Alex likes holding Magnus’s hand

-Alex keeps sphynx cats

-Magnus gives cheek kisses, Alex loves them

-Magnus dislikes dogs. They remind him of wolves, so he prefers cats, birds and fish

Hotel Valhalla

Okay, so, I have this headcanon, and I don't know, if it's crazy, but I headcanon, that not only warriors that died in war or fight go to Valhalla, but also women, who died during childbirth. I mean especially back than they were not even allowed to fight in wars, so how should they achieve to go to valhalla?

Besides that, any woman or afab person that gave birth will tell you, that giving birth is a fight too. Particularly back than, when it was more common for the woman to die due to giving birth.

I am no expert on norse mythology, so I can only go after what I read in the internet and in Magnus Chase:

After all, Valhalla is the paradies of those, who died an honorable death and tell me: What can be more honorable than dying to gift another person life?

rick riordan was always really fond of vikings and norse mythology and saw that nazis and fascists were adopting symbolism about it and made a book series with characters of color, muslim characters, a trans and genderfluid character, other LGBTQ+ characters, a Deaf character, and probably some others i’m leaving off.

rick riordan is using his privilege as a famous white author to make characters that reflect REAL PEOPLE.
