WITHIN TEMPTATION's SHARON DEN ADEL Guests On 'Labyrinth' Single From Ukraine's BLIND8

Ukrainian band BLIND8 has released a new song, "Labyrinth", featuring Sharon Den Adel of Dutch symphonic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION.

This collaboration is a landmark moment for BLIND8, which formed just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has become a leading light for rock music in its homeland whenever circumstances allow. They will be joining WITHIN TEMPTATION as the opening act on their "Bleed Out 2024" European tour this autumn, playing arenas across mainland Europe and the U.K.

The song is also being released worldwide via WITHIN TEMPTATION's own record label Force Music Recordings.

Sharon comments: "'Labyrinth' is not just a song; it's a testament to the enduring power of music. And even with Roman, the singer, and Ihor, the bass player, currently having been mobilized and in training for the war, BLIND8 continue to defy the odds, proving that even in the most challenging times, art can shine a light in the darkness."

BLIND8 remain committed and hopeful of spreading their message of solidarity, perseverance and defiance across Europe at the end of this year, playing to their largest audiences yet in huge arenas, when they support WITHIN TEMPTATION. The musicians have said that this song is their testament to the fact that even in the darkest times, music has the power to inspire and unite people.

WITHIN TEMPTATION will embark on a huge arena tour of Europe in the autumn of 2024. Joining them on this tour will be both WITHIN TEMPTATION's recent collaborative artists and longtime friends: singer Tarja Turunen (on select dates),German metalcore band ANNISOKAY, BLIND8, GREEN LIZARD and Ukrainian producer and vocalist Alex Yarmak.

The tour starts in September with two shows in The Netherlands (that sold out within days) and will continue throughout Europe in an array of impressive arenas. A number of dates have already sold out, with tickets running low across Europe.

Last fall, WITHIN TEMPTATION co-sponsored the Ukraine Aid Operations boat fundraiser for the Ukrainian Marines. They donated 6,000 euros for 30 patches, which they packaged with a limited-edition box of their latest album, "Bleed Out"

Four months ago, Den Adel spoke to Metal Musikast about WITHIN TEMPTATION's music video for the band's "A Fool's Parade" single, featuring Ukrainian producer and vocalist Alex Yarmak. Recorded amidst the streets of Kyiv with renowned Ukrainian video director Indy Hait, the clip captures Sharon at important Ukrainian landmarks. Asked what it was like to make a music video in the capital city of a country at war, Den Adel said: "Well, I was never scared to go there, because I was in good hands, to my opinion. We were helped to do this video and to organize everything, what we wanted to do in Kyiv, by the organization called Music Saves Ukraine. And they told us about the app that you had need to have. For instance, if you go into Kiev, which we did by night train from Poland, because there's no commercial flights from Amsterdam to Kyiv anymore. So we had to go by night train from Poland to Kyiv. And they told us to download an air-alerts app because everyone in Ukraine has that, and you can select a region that you are in and any incoming dangerous drones or airplanes, like MiGs, who are carrying a supersonic bomb or anything, they will put that in the app and you know what the danger is and how much time you have to go to a shelter. And there's shelters everywhere, even in the hotel that I was. And we once had to go underneath the metro station, because there was a MiG on their way. And sometimes it has a bomb, sometimes it doesn't. It's sometimes just looking and scouting where they can do something with the next airplane. And this time it wasn't wearing any supersonic bomb, which was good for us because it can wipe out a complete area in a matter of seconds."

In March 2022, WITHIN TEMPTATION was one of the artists who took part in a telethon concert in support of Ukraine. "Save Ukraine - #StopWar" united more than 20 countries and bring together more than 50 participants. The marathon was broadcast from Warsaw on the Polish TV channel TVP. In addition, broadcasters from many countries around the world rebroadcasted the marathon on their local channels.The "Bleed Out" album was released last October.

Reportagem: Within Temptation, MEO Arena

Lisboa foi o palco escolhido para o concerto da banda holandesa Within Temptation, no passado dia 26 de Novembro (o segundo, depois de uma sala também esgotada no dia anterior). Como não pode deixar de ser, um concerto não é apenas uma banda ou uma playlist, mas sim uma celebração à música. Foram vários os artistas que aqueceram o público luso para a chegada de Within Temptation.

Os ucranianos Blind 8 abriram a noite na MEO Arena, com agradecimentos e demonstração de afeto por Lisboa. A oportunidade de estar em Portugal e “fugir” às dificuldades sentidas na Ucrânia no meio de uma guerra assinalaram o concerto e discurso da banda. Declararam que a Ucrânia continua forte e persistente para lutar pelos seus cidadãos e por todos que poderão passar por uma situação semelhante. Um concerto, assim, marcado pela homenagem aos milhares de pessoas que perderam a vida pelo país. Como pano de fundo, um link para doações às vítimas do conflito. A banda iniciou com o tema “Laniakea”, seguido de “Nightmare”, “O.K.P.”, “Overcome the Darkness”, “Abandoned” e, finalmente, “Bulletproof”.

Depois de tão emotiva apresentação, foi a vez da banda alemã Annisokay subir a palco e à semelhança da banda de abertura, fazer um apelo à paz num mundo atualmente hostil e acrescentaram que Portugal parece ser um sítio onde se sente paz, dedicando ao país o tema “You”. Contaram, ainda, com a participação de Sharon Den Adel na performance da música “Like A Parasite” e tocaram uma versão de “One Step Closer” dos Linkin Park, que deixou a Sala Tejo ao rubro.

Os cabeça de cartaz, Within Tempation, iniciaram o momento mais esperado da noite com a voz poderosa e angélica da Sharon Den Adel. Tons de vermelho e fogo serviram para representar a essência da música “We go to War”, “Bleed Out” e “Ritual”. A artista fez uma breve, mas forte apresentação do tema “Don’t pray for me”, música com motivos religiosos, e frisou que esta não pode ser imposta às pessoas por obrigação, aludindo à liberdade de expressão e à igualdade de direitos de todos, independentemente das suas crenças ou género.

A banda utilizou recursos visuais para intensificar a experiência emocional e imersiva das suas apresentações, incluindo elementos sombrios, bem ao estilo gótico da banda. A atmosfera envolvente enriqueceu as histórias contidas nas canções, utilizando luzes, projeções e elementos cenográficos que remeteram a reinos místicos, batalhas épicas ou paisagens desoladas. O uso da cor vermelha, vapor avermelhado e fogo, deu lugar a um tom azul ténue, emergindo o público numa montanha russa de emoções, entre o poder do rock e a nostalgia.

Alex Yarmak foi convidado especial e Sharon Den Adel contou com a sua parceria na música “A Fool’s Parade”. Também contaram com a presença da finlandesa Tarja Turunen, ex membro da banda Nightwish, que, com a sua voz divinal participou na performance dos temas “The Promise”, “I Feel Immortal” e “Paradise”. As duas artistas demonstraram a harmonia característica do género, um género muito necessário e declararam, com um abraço, a verdadeira alma do metal.

A banda apostou numa interação constante com a plateia, conseguindo criar um ambiente de grande proximidade com a mesma e fez com que todos se sentissem parte do espetáculo. Os músicos viveram os temas e sentiram cada nota e cada vibração, percorrendo todos os cantos do palco numa interação genuína com a multidão.

O público, apesar de diferentes gerações, revelou-se unido pelo amor comum da banda, reagindo de forma extremamente entusiástica, como o público português já nos habituou. Um espetáculo marcado pela boa organização, boa música, num ambiente de saudável entusiasmo e solidariedade.

Concert report: Within Temptation in Zurich - a very special experience

Yesss :D So this time, I got the FULL experience of Within Temptation (after I saw them in Frankfurt this year from seating area - which just wasn't it for me, too far away...).

I think it's such an advantage to be used to going to R+-concerts - this way it's sooo nice to make the experience that you not always have to sell your soul if you want to make it to first row XD

I came 1 hour before the doors opened - half an hour would have been completely sufficient :D No fighting, no running, no elbows in the ribs - and I made it to first row, yaaay!! :D Man I just enjoy being very close to the band, seeing expression, emotions, interactions between the band members,... This way I can indulge completely into the experience.

The opening acts (Blind8 and Annisokay) I alreday knew from the concert in Frankfurt - already there I LOVED Annisokay but this time I also enjoyed Blind8 way more than the fist time. I think it's because I was closer, this way I felt the energy more.

Within Temptation was gorgeous as ever! Sharons voice is so damn good and she sounds like on the record. Her high notes are clear and beautiful and give me goosebumps each time.

This was also a very special concert - after 1/3 of the set, they had to pause for about 10 minutes, because a side part of the stage had broken down (not visible for me, but it wasn't safe to continue). This somehow had messed up the technics, which caused problems with the guitars and their in-ear-monitors. They continued after 10 min, but it was obvious that there was something wrong. Technicians were running around from time to time, sometimes a guitar was missing on stage. Sharon told the audience in between songs about the ongoing difficulties.

What impressed me was how professional and still flawless her singing was! The most impressive moment was probably, when 3 of the six band members were suddenly off stage in the middle of a song - Sharon was left only with the drummer and keyboarder - and sang "Stand my ground" - SO very fitting!! It was also unique to hear the song without all three guitars (bass included)! :D She apologized several times for the difficulties, of course it wasn't their fault and I had the feeling that no one in the audience was complaining. The atmosphere was relaxed and the audience even started singing a swiss song during the break (which I didn't know). At one point when the technical issues persisted, I was fearing that they might cancel the show - but that wasn't the case. They carried on, even though one of the two guitars was missing most of the time.

Sharon even said that this never happened to them, technical issues they already had of course, but never to that extend. So it was a very special experience :D It wasn't something negative in my eyes, it just showed me how professional they are and what good musicians they are - perfoming this good with noise interference and missing instruments is definitely something! They finished their set 30mins late and it was such a unique experience :)

And today I have a little neck ache - which is always a good sign that it was a great concert ;D

its now the day after but the concert high is still going strong!

and you guys. holy shit. it was amazing. i dont have words, but i had such a good time, seriously, i can barely wrap my head around it. i screamed myself sore, my feet were killing me by the end of the night, i probably got mildly dehydrated, and its the happiest i've felt all month!

queuing was fine, i got there only like 2&half hours before gates open & was still in like the first ~20 ppl in that line, so even tho there was early entry before us AND a bathroom delay, i still found a decent spot.. actually by the time wt came out to play i ended up like 3rd row from barricade, thanks to the guys that let me in front of them and some clever maneuvering on my part lol

the supporting bands i havent heard like at all before tonight, and blind8 was kinda meh tbh but annisokay was... okay (pun fully intended). might even give them a proper listen later.

i dont normally take vids during concerts but for wt & tarja i made an exception, theyre special to me like that.. i ended up with a handful, not all of them good, and all of them p short cuz id still rather vibe than film, but at least i have something to share this way..

Continuing the band’s constant support of Ukraine, Within Temptation vocalist Sharon den Adel has released a new single with BLIND8.

After going to Kyiv earlier this year to film a music video, Within Temptation are continuing to show their support for Ukraine.

Today, singer Sharon den Adel has teamed up with BLIND8 for new single Labyrinth, ahead of the impending Bleed Out European tour which will also see the Ukrainian band join as support.

The hardest part about today's prompt was actually drawing the black dahlias. 😅

As for the concept? Someone mentioned that black dahlias can represent "betrayal", hence the bleeding tattoo on his neck.
