There's a lot I like about Umbrella Academy, and there's a lot that I forgive in Umbrella Academy because it's a comic book adaptation and most comics have similar problems. BUT.

In S2E9, when the Handler shoots live ammo from a real gun at a child, it's portrayed as sweet and harmless —bullets are just background noise (e.g. James Bond) and this show has slapstick stakes. In S2E10, when the Handler shoots from a real gun at six adults, they have a graphic drawn-out death scene — bullets kill people (e.g. Pulp Fiction) and this is a much darker type of show.

Klaus gets kidnapped and murdered in S1, and his siblings roll their eyes about how he's irresponsible. Klaus gets accidentally killed in S3, and his siblings react with devastation and horror. Violence is funny, when it's Five killing 20 of his coworkers. Violence is horrifying, when it's Viktor killing Pogo. So on.

You can't have it both ways. It creates mood whiplash. It makes the characters feel callous. It can feel like no events ever matter, so there's no point in caring. I can't tell how seriously to take any given scene, because the same sequence of actions is sometimes treated as comedy and sometimes as tragedy.

I wonder what the opening and ending for a Solivaga anime would be. Probably surreal and creepy. Secret spoilers? Willow jumpscares? Angsty??? Very likely all of those.

Oh my god, Okay. We joked a while ago now that the Prologue looked already a lot like an opening lol but if we want to go full opening vibes, here's some of my favorite oldies that match the vibe I'd def. go with:

Slayers TRY, breeze, is always a great mood. I"d first and foremost go with Kagirinai Yokubou no Naka Ni, but youtube either deleted the ending anim due to a copyright claim or the uploader took it down. The song is great tho and has a perfect vibe:

and the first one that popped into my mind when I got this ask was the opening to Miyu OVA. sadly I can't find a version of it that's not a potato and not tied to the actual episode, but here it is.

Shamanic Princess is the other that popped into my mind immediately. and ofc

The anime may be crap compared to my beloved manga, but I will love this opening until the day I die. I love the unique song, I love the visuals, I love the mood, I love the incidental scenes. Ofc anything that has the sort of Yuki kajiura sound would also fit exceptionally well.

And if we're just going by music, Lilium is a beautiful opening song with great vibes as well, but I'm not really into the show it's from. HAve kept that opening on my playlist forever tho. Shamanic Princess is so near perfect for a vibe because it seems all colorful and happy, but if you've ever seen that anime... hahaha.

I was going through my old LiveJournal trying to find my reviews for the Green Day concerts I went to years ago. Found them, but then I fell down the rabbit hole of reading old posts (I started my LJ when I was 13. 13!) and interactions which old friends and trying to follow link trees to see if I could find old friends I've completely lost track of. Then from there I started looking at my old DeviantART and old forums I used to frequent (those still around anyway) throughout my years on the internet and, man, this stuff feels like lifetimes ago and yet also like it was all yesterday.

And then a little later a Panic! at the Disco song came on in the car and, like, that was not part of my childhood but a couple years back my little sister was into them so now I connect that sound to particular point in time and I feel nostalgia for it.

I have this feeling of, like, I'm a nesting doll where everyone I ever was and will be simultaneously exists as one with who I am now as well as their own individual self that existed only at that point of time

It's interesting. You think of your life as one entity but really it's like you live a bunch of little lives that you're only aware of looking back on it

I haven’t posted a quirk in forever and it might be late at night but I don’t care inspirational struck so it now or never

Mood Ring Skin: this quirk causes its users skin to change color depending on their mood. When they’re happy their skins yellow, sad means blue, angry means red, afraid is purple, disgust is green, anxiety is orange, embarrassment or love is pink. Any other emotions settle into different shades of those colors like empathy for example would be a dark blue and nervous excitement would be a mixture of purple and yellow. Any mixture of emotions will become a mix of the emotions corresponding colors. If the user attempts to hides their emotions then a semi transparent layer over the skin will appear in whatever color the user is trying to show, the color underneath is still visible but clouded, also the colored layer does not add any extra thickness or anything to the skin the user can still touch and feel things the same as always. The downsides of this quirk are, it is simply a mutant type quirk with no offensive or defensive capabilities so it would not work well as a heroes quirk, and anyone can tell what emotion the users feeling.
