I like the idea of an AU where shinigami don't bruise like humans do, even when they're in gigai.

To the extent that some of the shinigami don't even really know what bruises are because they don't deal with them and they don't interact with humans long enough or frequently enough to see bruising.

So seeing Ichigo, Chad, Orihime and Uryu all bruised up kind of freaks everyone out.

Especially Ichigo because he's always got bruises somewhere. They can range from a splatter of light colors along his knuckles to big splotches of dark bruises across his ribs.

All the shinigami are a little horrified, and a little fascinated, by what bruises are. Except the 11th who I feel would absolutely think bruises were awesome.

The humans don't usually worry too much about healing the bruises because there's often other things that need attention or it's just not worth the effort. Sometimes the bigger bruises need attention but most of the time they just ache and get forgotten about.

Ichigo is not the best at admiting when some of them are deep enough or painful enough to need healing. As long as he can move and isn't actively bleeding then he thinks he's fine.

Others disagree.

Urahara always finds ways to accidently, or blatantly, hit the bigger bruises over and over until Ichigo is wheezing and admits that okay maybe this is one that needs some attention.

Eventually Ichigo makes it easier for both of them and just tells him if there's a particularly nasty one that may need to be looked at.

The Visored trying to keep track of where they hit him hardest when sparring and subtly make sure he's not bruised too bad. They're not soft people, so asking him if he was okay would seem forced and uncomfortable. They just keep sharp eyes out for winces or stiff movements.

They've been in the human world for a long time but they don't actually interact with many humans. The first time Ichigo came to see them with a big bruise following the line of his cheekbone they had been like wtf is on your face.

The bruises are a uncomfortable reminder to everyone that Ichigo is a squishy, breakable human under all that power.
