She laid on her side, one hand under her pillow, the other on top of the duvet by her face. Anyone who walked into her room would assume she was asleep, with her bedside lamp on, but asleep nonetheless. Her lip quivered as her chest tightened, threatening to break out in loud sobs, making her red faced. But she didn't let it. She cried, yes, but silently. The tears rolling down her cheeks, her torso gently trembling as she pushed her feelings down.
She thought she was like everyone else, just as smart, just as beautiful, just as much of a person. It didn't make sense to her. Why should she be made to feel that way? 'It isn't fair!' she wanted to shout out into the street, to anyone who treated her different because of the colour of her skin. But she couldn't, she knew she couldn't. The police would be called on her, she would be arrested, or shot, or killed. She would be broken into tiny tiny fragments, only able to be put back together after hours, days, months, years. Her life wasn't like the life of so many of those around her.
Heart hurting, yearning for a decent life at least, she let out a loud sob. Why should she fear for her life when she walks to school? Why was she taught what to say to a policeman if they ever came up to her? Why should she be terrified every time she sees a white man go past her? Why was she oppressed for her looks? Why was the leader of her country, and so many others, so hating of people like her? Why should she have a worse life than her white counterparts? Why should she be treated any differently for the colour of her skin?
Something she couldn't control shaped her life in ways nobody could imagine. In ways that put her more at risk than others. In ways that made her fear the humans - the same beings as her. She just wanted to be the same as others. Many times she wished to be white, but she was proud to be black. She was proud to be herself.
___
I'm sorry this took longer than I was planning to get out, I've been ill and sort of forgot about everything.
I asked multiple POC about their feelings, past and present, to include in this because although I can guess, I wanted the feelings written in this to be convincing.
So, remember everyone, even though we are seeing less of a buzz on social media to do with it, black lives matter, and they shouldn't stop mastering just because a few less people are posting about it on their Instagram or whatever.
Black lives matter ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!!!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 One Off Oddities is run by a bisexual (no gender preference) witch. 🧙🏻‍♀️🧙🏻‍♀️🧙🏻‍♀️ I am the mother of a trans son and a non-binary child; both identify as bisexuals who have no gender preference. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 I am the wife of an incredible black man and therefore the mother of biracial children. 🖤🖤🖤 I’m the blessed aunt to a queer niece. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 AND I will never stop advocating for the rights of my loved ones (and others) right to exist for who they are with out fear of hatred, violence or death! ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻 #shoppingispolitical #pridemonth #blacklivesmatter #blackqueerlivesmatter #queerlivesmatter #gaylivesmatter #transgenderlivesmatter #blacktranswomenmatter #blacktransmenmatter #bipocmatter #indigenouslivesmatter #2spiritlivesmatter #gay #lesbian #bisexual #transgender #agender #aromantic #intersex #asexual #demisexual #demiromantic #demiboy #demigirl #bigender #genderfluid #genderqueer #pansexual #qpoc #qtpoc (at One Off Oddities) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA6By1ApSw5/?igshid=wc3r09l5xmcw

ALL OUT NYC!!! Join our comrades DecrimNY for a teach-in and canvass tomorrow!
https://www.facebook.com/events/880317355672359/
Decrim NY is working to end criminalization of sex work because it will make sex workers and trafficking survivors safer from violence by clients and the police. It also decriminalizes mutual aid strategies like sharing a home with a sex worker! People who trade sex know what we need: resources and rights, not more policing.
We're gathering on Tuesday night at 35th Street & Madison Avenue in Manhattan to counter misinformation and bust myths about the campaign for decriminalization. Join us for a circle and hear directly from speakers with lived experience trading sex, and then participate in a canvass to talk to community members in the area about why we need decrim now! Supplies will be provided for canvassing and art.

Pride month continues on after today, when we say the names of these Black and Latinx Trans womxn we have lost. The full list of names only goes as far as 2015, but just think about how many have gone undocumented without a voice. It's time to speak up. It's time for us to #saytheirnames To hear more from the LGBTQ+ community, check out @sas.newyorkcity for their LGBTQ+ Panel series. . . . #saytheirnames #protecttranswomen #translivesmatter #blacktranslivesmatter #blacktranswomenmatter #blacklivesmatter✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 #Pride #loveislove https://www.instagram.com/p/CCFY_Jjjh2b/?igshid=a8zaouy7cjg6

Forgot to post these from my NYC World Pride Trip a few weeks ago. It was a great honor to be among friends to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Not only was an important moment for the LGBTQIA community but, a moment for mankind. There were some not so nice moments that occurred that I didn't find out about until I arrived home but, it was a momentous occasion for me. It was great to see my friends celebrate themselves surrounded by loved ones. Pride month isn't just for June, it's all year round. I love you all. Happy belated pride. #pridemonth #worldpride #50thanniversary #love #celebration #liberation #lgbtqia #blacktranswomen #blacktranswomenmatter #protectthematallcosts #consent #nyc #iconic #legendary (at Stonewall Inn) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz4d3fZjJyM/?igshid=19sdbk7glriw6

If you want to get involved in organizing for the safety, support, advocacy, etc. for queer and trans folx of color, please HIT ME UP so we can talk and get you acquainted with other comrades and action plans. There is strength and power in numbers and community with a common goal. And donate what you can to black trans and gender nonconforming folx, ESPECIALLY black trans women. ESPECIALLY if YOU are white/and or a person with disposable income. Others have compiled lists or even dedicated entire pages to allocating funds and resources for black trans women and trans women of color. I’ll list some here (remove the slashes): @/transyouthlunchclub @/tsblackpower @/orbgoddess @/asappparasite Depicted: Faces of the four black trans women who we have lost during pride month in the US, in the order that they’ve died. There’s a lack of information out about their lives. Her name is Chynal Lindsey. She lived to be 26 years old. Her body was recovered from White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas on June 1st, 2019. #sayhername Her name is Chanel Scurlock. She lived to be 23 years old. Her body was found in a field in Lumberton, North Carolina on June 5th, 2019. #sayhername Her name is Layleen Cubilette-Polanco Xtravaganza. She was apart of the Xtravaganza house and known for walking the realness category. She lived to be 27 years old. She was being kept in the restrictive housing unit at Rikers Island. She was found unresponsive on June 7th, 2019 in her cell at the Rose M. Singer women’s facility. #sayhername Her name is Zoey Spears. She lived to be 23 years old. She was apart of the Casa Ruby family (members of a community center run and led by trans women of color) where she was mothered by Ruby Corado. She was found dead on a street in Fairmount Heights, Maryland on June 13th, 2019 just blocks away from where her friend, another black trans woman, Ashanti Carmon, was found dead in March. #sayhername #alttext #stopkillingthem #stopkillingus #blacktranslivesmatter #blacktranswomenmatter #letthemlive https://www.instagram.com/p/By8BJ85hxy-/?igshid=zyh9r2lq09h2

Join Moms United and Northside Transformative Law Center for a dinner, panel and facilitated discussion, in a fully accessible location, about the ways in which moms, overwhelmingly poor moms and disproportionately moms of color are criminalized out of abusive/coercive circumstances. This includes legal theories of "failure to protect", as well as accountability laws in which a person in charged for the actions of others, often their abusers. More broadly, this is about the ways in which poverty, abuse and trauma are addressed within punishment systems rather than with supportive resources--and will continue as such until we begin to dismantle those systems and commit to fully resourced communities, whole person healthcare. The panel will feature Alexandra Chambers of the Free Shantonio Hunter Campaign, Monica Cosby of Moms United, Tanya Gassenheimer of Shriver Center on Poverty Law. We'll be joined by loved ones of moms who are pre-trial and post-conviction, punished for the actions of abusers, grieving separation from children and facing the possibility of decades in prison. Invited guests also include domestic violence advocates, members of the public defender's office, the state's attorney's office and the probation and parole board and YOU. Co-sponsored by Chicago Books to Women in Prison, Chicago Community Bond Fund, Circles & Ciphers, Justice for Alisha Walker/Support Ho(s)e, Love & Protect, The Women's Justice Institute - WJI, Westside Justice Center. Fully accessible, free street parking, all ages welcome plus optional childcare. Dinner catered by @Spirit & Soul Catering

In light of #pridemonth we just want to remind all of you that Stonewall was a riot, and it was started by Queer and Trans Women of Color; we must do better in remembering our history. Cis White Hetero-normative Gay men: Let's remember where your rights came from. Stonewall was a riot! The first pride, was not peaceful and happy. The action at the Stonewall was initiated by Queer and Trans Women of Color. Yet, I see y'all forget about your Trans brothers and sisters when they're dying in the streets! White gay men, in particular, forget where their freedoms come from. The white-washing of our Queer and Trans history is unacceptable, and the forced assimilation must not be tolerated! QUEERS DON'T DENT IT! STONEWALL WAS A RIOT! The pink-washing, white-washing, rainbow capitalism that is destroying our community, IT MUST END! TAKE BACK PRIDE! R.I.P. Marsh P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Lee Brewster. #StobewallWasARiot #NoJusticeNoPride #FuckRainbowCapitalism #TransLivesMatter #queerrevolution #blacktranswomenmatter #queerliberation
