Nobody ever talks about the way black mothers (and I’m sure other mothers in other ethnic households) curse you when they feel they’re inconvenienced by you. My mother has always said things like “one day you’re going to have a child whose going to give you hell or be a burden to you the way you are to me.” or you’re going to end up out on the street somewhere, or one day someone is going to find you and ruin your life/beat you up/harm you, or “Gods going to get you.”, or “one day you’re going to end up fucked up/washed up/etc. for _____” And all of this for simply standing up for yourself, not allowing her to get away with antagonizing and wronging you. All this for not making the same choices she would’ve made for you or stepping beyond what she felt was comfortable or the right way for you to react to her abuse or mistreatment. Black mothers and the way they treat their daughters. And you always find in ethnic households these conversations about not wanting female children or how female children are a headache or are difficult to raise, when that simply is not the case I think people perceive female children to be difficult to raise especially girls of color because society expects so much more from them, so do their mothers, their fathers, and even their brothers whom are coddled and aren’t raised fully and correctly.

This project is a better example of how photographers can use their talent to highlight a topic. These pictures are not as appealing as the ones he shot using the light, but still, it has a more vital message. Khalik Allah made this documentary "Black Mother" to show the people's struggles and the positive and negative parts in Jamaica. Seeing an artist use his work for something importing is very pleasing. Khalik Allah has a purpose and is showing in his work which I like a lot.

The invisidawg
has many forms, many mutations of the same underlying template of fuzziness and idiocy as he presents himself in my dreams. First a talking clown requesting belly-rubs and a shirt, he has now appeared as blackmoth, a dark fiend. Oh, the horrors of the subconscious!

Reposted from blackwomeninvisualart Sending love 💕 Mother’s Day is a beautiful ritual honoring love, labor and remembrance. Collectively the love we have for our children and our mothers unites us. As mothers ourselves, we empathize with the many suffering as victims of war and political turmoil. We offer a bouquet of peace, hope for a #ceasefire and desire a better world for our all of our children.
Art by Harmonia Rosales, Our Lady Of Regla, Oil on Wood Panel with 24k Gold, 40 x 40 inches.
“Our Lady of Regla is at the same time Yemayá, the mother to all. She holds the first woman Eve in her arms, her solemn expression indicating her knowledge of future suffering Eve and her descendants will undergo. A close study of Yemayá’s face reveals scars on her cheeks. This scarification represents powerful tribal markings of identification and beautification in Yoruba culture. Its presence works to reclaim different ideals of beauty. With elongated limbs cradling the baby Eve, the painting also speaks to motherhood.”
