Blackarachnia: The Early Orns

Megatron would never forget her scream of terror.

She emaciated, suffering from rust and organic infection. But still, she managed to scramble back in terror when they found her. She still struggled to fight back, managing to absorb Lugnut’s strength.

It was clear why she so frightened. They could all clearly see the torn Autobot badge, puss oozing from self-imposed cuts. 

It was Starscream who finally caught her, his nullrays adjusted to only cause temporary stasis. She was small compared to them, clearly a civilian frame. It took all of Shockwave, Starscream, and Megatron’s medical skills to get her healthy again, and even then they came close to losing her several times.

It was Shockwave who discovered her green spark, a point-one-percenter like himself. From there it was easy enough to piece together what had happened. Another spark in the wrong frame, another victim of Functionist thinking, left behind because of circumstances outside her control. She would be welcome among the Decepticons.

Starscream was leading Blackarachnia to the blank protofroms. She’d only been awake a few orns, but he knew these things were time sensitive. She was making it hard not to get attached though; he’d sworn he wouldn’t after Thundercracker died.

But she was a bright little spark, a scientist at spark. Her questions were proof enough.

“Why didn’t you transfer my spark right away then?” she huffed, not nearly as timid as before.

“A damaged spark in a new frame is still a damaged spark. It would have only killed you quicker.” Starscream explained. They all knew she was only in it for herself, but she had no inclination to stab them in the back. It wasn’t like she had anywhere to go and even this brief stint with them, valuable information or not, would land her in the stockade or worse. She might find herself beneath a memosurgeon’s needles. He figured the responsible friend who had come so close to saving her was another victim of empurata.

As they entered the vault he could feel the unease in her EM field as she stared at the blank protoforms. He sighed. “They aren’t alive. Our scientists designed them for cold constructed bots, so they could have a frame that matched their CNA.”

She looked at him with a hint of fear. “So I just let you remove my spark chamber and stick it in one of those?”

“For the last time, yes! It won’t even hurt.”

Starscream could feel the pure desperation in her field, like a Seeker without wings watching a medic prepare to reattach them. She closed her eyes and in a matter of kliks it was over.

Starscream would never forget her scream of despair. She looked the same as she had a few moments before.

“Why didn’t it work?” she screeched.

“Why did you lie about how long you had been down there?” he snapped back. “You’ve been down there over 600 vorns, haven’t you? I could have told you it wouldn’t have worked! Now you just wasted resources. If you’ve been in the wrong frame for over 600 vorns, it becomes part of your spark’s CNA. You can’t survive without access to that frame and the protoform blanks don’t reverse it. Same reason you can’t fix an Empuratee that way.” He stormed off, wincing as his wings fought to express his agitation, but were stopped by the brace and his Seeker’s vow of silence.

“How do I fix it?”

Shockwave looked up at the femme. “Theoretically, you’d have to become a triple changer who instead of just having two alts has two root forms as well.”

“Like you?” Blackarachnia asked. “Then why didn’t you…?” she gestured to his single optic.

“I was born with it, courtesy of my rare spark. That avenue is closed to me. But it remains open to you.” Shockwave said nonchalantly. “You are welcome to look at my notes while I’m undercover. Blitzwing has already volunteered for the first step of synthetically creating a triple changer; the Autobots did it to his trinemates so he feels prepared to handle the more aggressive personality.”

Blackaracnhia’s wrinkled in disgust. “I’d prefer to leave with my personality intact.”

Shockwave looked at her, and she could have sworn he was smiling. “Than make sure to not warp Blitzwing’s and have no serious complications. Megatron will shut that down otherwise, never mind what Starscream will do. There aren’t that many Seekers left.” He paused. “I wish you luck. You’re not the only one who hates their frame.”
