What's your genetic HCs for Firestar's family? (Nutmeg+Jake, Firestar+Sandstorm, Leafpool+Squirrelflight, Leafpool's kits and maybe Princess and her kits too? i have no clue about anything that happened past OOTS haha but if you have any HC's for those too I'd love to hear :3)
Tumblr media
Dealing with this family, my starting point was to keep Fireheart orange. It seemed important. I gave him ticked pattern, to be as orange as possible.
Tumblr media
This means Nutmeg, Squirrelflight and Leafpool all have that very same orange allele Fireheart carries. No problem with Squirrelflight, but Nutmeg and Leafpool are supposed to be brown tabbies. Solution: they are torties now! (There's another Nutmeg, a tortoiseshell-and-white rogue in the books, and as far as I remember, there's nothing else but the color suggesting that they are in fact different Nutmegs. So this way they can be combined into one single tortoiseshell-tabby-and-white Nutmeg.)
Tumblr media
So now we have a red Squirrelflight and a tortie Leafpool. What does that say about Sandstorm? She gave a red allele to Squirrelflight and a black one to Leafpool. Ergo, tortie. (Actually I really like dilute tortie Sandstorm. It seems fitting to the name.) And Leafpool has white spotting that had to come from somewhere, so let's give that to Sandstorm too.
Tumblr media
Tortie Leafpool has another big advantage: her kits all work out without any further changes. Red allele goes to Lionblaze, black to Jayfeather and Hollyleaf. Great.
Princess: if we want red Jake (and why wouldn't we) then she needs to be tortie too. I like this, because I've always assumed Leafpool was modelled after her, so keeping them the same color is nice. Her only "canon" kit is Cloudtail, who is full white (but in my head he's masking black silver tabby or maybe black smoke).
I have headcanons for the next generations too, but maybe it'd be too long to list all of them, so i'll only add Squirrelflight's kits for now: Alderheart is very correctly red, but Sparkpelt had to get the black allele from Brambleclaw, so she'll be tortie. (Again, I think it goes well with the name.)
Tumblr media
Jake: red ticked tabby
Nutmeg, Princess, Leafpool: black tortoiseshell mackerel tabby with white
Fireheart, Squirrelflight, Alderheart: red (ticked)
Sandstorm: blue tortoiseshell spotted tabby with white
Cloudtail: white
Hollyleaf: black
Jayfeather: blue mackerel tabby
Lionblaze: red silver spotted tabby
Sparkpelt: black tortoiseshell

I just found your blog earlier today and I love it, so...
This is my kitty Sky! She is a precious lil bean that freaks out when she sees cats outside, and I have been wondering for a while now what she is!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, what a darling! It's been a while since I've seen a good "freaky" kitty!!!! <3
Sky seems to be a black silver ticked tortoiseshell tabby with medium white!

Hi Greer! Im raising a whole litter of kittens and im honestly wondering about what you think their genetics are? Theyre a bunch of little love bugs and seeing you post about Belphegor has got me curious. I think they're tricolors, but we somehow got a tabby (?) in the bunch as well and Im wondering whats going on with this thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in this litter, you have 1 blue tabby, 1 blue tortoiseshell, and 2 tortoiseshells with white. I can help break down what that means.
Tumblr media
so agouti (aka tabby) is a dominant gene. being self-coloured (aka solid) is recessive. this means that the parents of this litter both carried the recessive gene for solid, but at least one was a tabby.
now onto the tortoiseshells. red is an X-linked colour. male cats typically only have one X chromosome, so they can either get a black-X or a red-X (and be black or red).
female cats have two XX's, so they can inherit one of each. when this happens, the two colours both try to express at the same time, giving the cat a patchwork appearance!
Tumblr media
as for the blue tabby and blue tortoiseshell, this happens when a black cat receives a double-copy of the dilution gene. so both parents of this litter had at least one copy to pass down.
Tumblr media
and lastly, the white spotting. think of this as a can of white paint thrown at a cat, covering up everything beneath it. this is a co-dominant colour, and two copies of it can result in a pure white cat.
Tumblr media
it's common to call a tortoiseshell with white spotting a calico, or a tri-colour, but there's no one calico gene. rather, it's a bunch of genes working together to create the effect!
(all these helpful diagrams came from King Size cattery)

my beautiful 14 yo granny probably isn't anything too fancy but she's always gotten compliments on how beautiful her color is! figured I'd share her! we got her as a kitten in May 2009 and we've had her ever since then. her name is gigi and she loves cheetos
Oh, really nice pattern! I love the stripey tortie patches on her head and back.
She's a black tortoiseshell tabby with white, which is a quite common color but nonetheless beautiful 😸 Thank you for sharing her!

Good evening I’m fucking losing my mind over Jellie’s coat color and genetics what do you fucking mean she has red patches I’ve never noticed that have been diluted to cream and that means she’s a tortoiseshell
Tumblr media
Look!!! Look at that!!!!! That is red and if you look closer you can see it behind her legs and dispersed throughout her coat. TRICKY LITTLE GIRL!!!!
I’ve been thinking this whole time she’s a black silver classic tabby but NO she’s a black tortoiseshell silver classic tabby with white.
girl your genes need to CALM DOWN
Anyways I think that Scar has all the rights to make an entire theme park based off of her or something because she’s so pretty and cool.
And the reason I did all this research is because I’m making a fic where she has kittens that are called the Jamlets and I just need you guys to know how much work I’m putting into it and also that her kittens are adorable. Thank you that’s all.

Guess who redrew their redraw of the Into the Wild Cover!
IDK if im going to go back to redrawing all the covers or not... but I really wanted to redraw this one!
its the same as the last redraw, it has Redtail and the shadowy form of Tigerclaw at the bottom and my round Rusty design (though this time he has his updated version of the design)!
Previous Redraw
[Image ID: A digital illustration, which is a redraw of the original Warriors: Into the Wild cover.  At the top of the cover is the "Warriors" title written in navy blue, and below it is written Into the Wild which is white and lined in the same navy blue. Below the title is a portrait style frame centered in the middle of the cover, this frame depicts Fire(paw) sitting perfectly centered and looking up in awe, he is a small chubby long furred bright orange tabby with folded ears one being black, at his feet his his kittypet collar which is blue and has a tag with the letter R on it. The background behind Fire is bushes in differing shades of green leading up to a blue sky. Behind this frame, filling up the rest of the cover, is a illustration of green bushes and trees leading down to grass, with a cloudy sky overhead. At the bottom of this illustration are two cats, one cat, Redtail, a sleek black and red tortoiseshell tom with amber eyes, is crouched on the left side of the cover, looking at the second cat on the right side. The other cat is a silhouette of a large long furred tom. At the bottom of the cover where the author is usually listed, is written “Rise of Change” in yellow text, in the same font as the book title./End ID]
