I can't be the only one here who thinks it's unfair to allow kittypets on this site. Posting pictures of themselves and their mates inside of the twolegplace, influencing the young kits on this site to abandon their Clans... surely everyone else sees the problem with this as well.

This is Clanblr, not "Kittypetblr". This was specifically made as a space for Clan cats to connect, not for kittypets to push their lifestyle on us.

They're going to convince our kits to abandon their home and their belief in StarClan just for a more secure life.

The recent drama surrounding Kipper the Kittypet is sad and I hate that he's being bashed just for existing, but it's also incredibly stupid. I believe the cat who wrote the original post said something like, "it's CLANblr, not KITTYPETblr," and then something about belief in StarClan and I just... do you even realize how many Clanblr mods are non-Clan and/or don't believe in StarClan?

To name a few, @s-t-a-r-burning is former WindClan now rogue & openly an atheist, @theshadowhaseyes has been a kittypet his whole life, and @ssuunnrraayy-p has made zir entire blog about how ze travels from one Clan to another & doesnt consider zimself a Clan cat. Those are all mods. "It's clanblr no-" shut up. Just shut up.

I think a lot of cats put way too much emphasis on the parts of the warrior code that dont matter, and forget the parts that do, like "feed elders and kits first" and "never neglect a kit in pain or danger"... I feel like those are significantly more important than "a warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet," but maybe that's just me.

I feel like we don't talk enough about how SkyClan got chased out of their own territory during a time of crisis rather than all of the Clans trying to make room for everyone...

I mean, seriously. I know it's taught to all SkyClan apprentices, but I've talked to some of my friends from other Clans and they just. Didn't know that. They were never taught that the other Clans allowed SkyClan to be chased out due to territory loss.

Picaresque Roman

I'm a fan of the Japanese ttrpg design scene. My first non-DnD game was Golden Sky Stories, and I really click with the prevalence of d6s and oneshot-oriented play.

However, my ability to speak/read Japanese is so immensely bad that it changed the trajectory of my life, so I generally have to keep my fingers crossed and hope for translations of the systems I'm excited about.

Hence, when Picaresque Roman came out in English, I scooped up a copy as fast as I could.

Picaresque Roman: A Requiem For Rogues is a competitive pvp tabletop rpg. Probably the closest equivalent to it is werewolf/mafia, but it's not that exactly.

The broad premise is that you're criminals in a hidden city and you're working together in an uneasy truce to take down a big juicy target. All of you are ultimately in it for yourselves, and one of you is a traitor---however there's no mechanic that lets you kill other characters.

Instead, you can gather information (everyone has info cards, which include things like their traitor status), forge truces (or force truces), and shake down each other (or the target) for cash or victory points.

It's a full-fledged rpg, with classes and skills and an action economy, but everything happens in little vignettes. You pick an action, you roll or talk, and that's your turn for the cycle.

It's tightly designed enough that you could play Picaresque Roman without any roleplaying at all and it would still be fun, or you could put a bit of flourish on every action you take and play out quick scenes when you make a truce or rob your target.

I think this might be one of those games where all it really needs is a box and a board and it'd cruise right past people's hesitation around roleplaying and become as popular as Gloomhaven. As is, I think it's a *good* rpg for introducing other people to rpgs, especially if they already vibe with gangster dramas, Guy Ritchie movies, the Yakuza series, or stuff like Black Lagoon or Akudama Drive.

Chapter 2 - Blood in the Water

Chapter Description: Albatross, a lonely and ostracized dragonet, finds himself on the Sunset Beach. To entertain himself, he chases a seagull, only to then be interrupted by his two sisters.

[CW: Blood, gore, derealization, verbal abuse, bullying]

Albatross was the type of dragon you wouldn't want to be seen around. He was a dragon that others would make up wild rumours about to explain their natural repulsion to him. The kind of dragon that they would whisper about behind his back, yet put on a face of false kindness to try and hide their disdain. There was something fundamentally different about Albatross. Something that made him undesirable.

He understood this from the moment he hatched. He had vague memories of that day. Distant, fuzzy recollections of the looks given to him by the surrounding dragons. How could there not be some discussion? The newest prince of the SeaWings turning out in such a repugnant way? Why did this happen? Was this the result of some secret affair that the queen had with an IceWing? From his unnaturally pale scales and nearly pitch-black eyes, that wouldn't be such a far-fetched assumption. Maybe a curse had been placed on this egg by a rogue IceWing animus, or perhaps it was some genetic mutation.

Whatever the cause may be, Albatross was not seen as the same in the eyes of many. His sisters, Sapphire and Lagoon, were perfect examples of what a SeaWing should be. Rich, royal blue scales with gorgeous wing patterns. They were naturally gifted with those looks. They were the sorts of dragons that artists in the future would look back on, painting their lavish features and gushing about them and their beauty.

Comparatively? Albatross was a freakshow. His scales were a ghastly grey, looking almost entirely snow-white in certain lighting. His eyes were a deep, dark blue that one could easily mistake for being entirely black. His neck was too long and his wings were too big for his body. His snout was hooked and his teeth seemed far too small, even for his relatively young age. His tail was pointy and whip-like. He smelt vaguely of rotting fish no matter what he tried. Not exactly a great sight for the eyes.

Because of his outward appearance, the others judged him. Something beyond his control or will made him into a circus act for others to gawk at. They look at him and either laugh at his features or worse, pity. Show condescending compassion. Say "I'm so sorry for you" or apologize for something he was hatched with.

He wasn't a tragedy. He didn't want to be remembered as a dragon to pity or be seen as some lost cause. He wanted to be seen for who he was. He would do great things one day. He doesn't want his looks or how others treat him to get in the way of that perception. He wanted to be known as Prince Albatross, a SeaWing who did...something. What that would be was still unclear, but he wanted it to be grand. Important. He wanted to be remembered for years to come for what he did during his life.

For now though? He was alone. Better to be ignored and out of sight from the others than to be acknowledged and seen.

It was peaceful at the Sunset Beach. The Island Palace was a quiet place he liked going to whenever he felt stressed or wanted some time to himself. It was only ever used for visiting diplomats to stay, so it was empty most days. The Sunset Beach was a large stretch of pearl-white sand right next to the beautiful ocean. The waves were foamy and the water was crystal blue. Dotted around were small pavilions covered in decorative lanterns.

Albatross found himself sitting on the sand, just a fair bit away from the waves. He had been digging around in the sand, entertained by playing around with the driftwood and whatever else floated onto the shore. Alone with nothing more than himself and the gentle, yet nevertheless powerful calmness of the ocean.

Until...a seagull came down. From a nearby palm tree. It swooped from on high, landing gracefully onto the shores. It stood there, beak digging around for whatever fish or creature the ocean had spat onto the beach. Albatross watched it intently. He was content with simply seeing it pick the grains and scavenge for remains. Yet, as he did so, he couldn't help but feel a small thought worm its way into him.

Chase it.

He didn't know why he wanted to do it. It simply felt right. He had seen Lagoon and Sapphire do the same with their prey. Albatross could never swim fast enough to catch his own food. Too slow. Too weak. Perhaps now would be his time. He could sneak up on the seagull. Grasp it. Feel it writhe and struggle to break free. Feel the fear course through its body as it tries desperately to live on. Feel some semblance of control and power.

The thought disturbed him though. The other dragons seemed just fine with it. They would tear into sharks, whales; for moon's sake,  his fellow peers would cheer and holler in joy upon seeing a prisoner of war be gutted. Was there something odd about him? Perhaps others simply never talked about that part. Kept it under a rug. It was shameful. Some sort of animalistic desire for violence and bloodshed. For dominance. To be a dragon.

They were civilized. They had palaces and kingdoms. Complicated societies and systems put in place to keep a gentle balance. A semblance that they were above the likes of wolf packs. Albatross wasn't an animal. He was a prince of the SeaWings.

...but maybe, for just a moment, he could live a little.

He dug his claws into the sand and pounced. He dove where the seagull was, only to be met with a cloud of dust and debris. It flew away.

"No, come back!" Albatross yelled, spitting out all the sand in his mouth. "Please?"

Miraculously, the seagull seemed to listen. It turned back to him. Eventually, it landed back on the beach. It was entertaining him.

He smiled back. He was about to fling himself at the seagull once more, when he felt something brush against his claws. It was a clamshell. Big one. One of the halves was as big as his talons. It was a dusty white colour, blending in with the rest of the beach.

He grabbed it. "I'm gonna eat you!" he giggled, pointing the shell at the seagull. He imagined it as though it was a dragon's mouth. That it could open up and snap at the bird just like any other set of razor-sharp fangs.

The two continued their dance. Albatross wanted to get it, but at this point, he had more fun playing around. He would leap towards it, the seagull hopping away right in time, and once both parties recovered they'd go again. It was fun. Simple, extraordinary fun. Much better than boring lessons or whatever else his tutors had in store for him. He didn't want it to end.

But, of course, things had to take a turn for the worse, didn't they?

After a couple minutes, Albatross became aware of something. A shift in the air. It wasn't sudden, but it was certainly different. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was most definitely another being present. Watching him. Judging him.

He looked to the ocean. Under the waves were two pairs of glistening blue eyes, glaring at him.

He felt a drop in his stomach as the two dragons rose out of the water, their laughter an ear-splintering chorus of noise. What was once a peaceful and tranquil afternoon on the beach became a playground for them. His sisters.

"Finally! I thought you'd gone blind or something," Sapphire giggled. "I was wondering when you would look over and see us."

"Really? I was enjoying watching him. I didn't think you were actually capable of running." Lagoon teased.

"Why are you here?" Albatross asked. "I thought you both had queen lessons."

"We finished early. Apparently, something happened with Mother, needing to call over all of her advisors. Thank the moons for that. So boring having to learn how to be a queen and to, well, rule over everyone," Lagoon said, passively looking at her claws.

His sisters weren't exactly the greatest of dragons, especially towards Albatross. They made it clear that they didn't like him. He was their weird brother who came out wrong. Who was a blemish on the otherwise perfect royal family. A pathetic good-for-nothing blob that should've been strangled the moment he crawled out of his egg.

Sapphire, despite being the middle dragonet, bossed around everyone. She was next in line for the throne. Even though that'd be years away from now, she acted as though she was on top of the world. Queen of everything. Most of their antics against him were her ideas, with Lagoon tagging along just because she found it funny.

Of course, right when he was having a bit of fun by himself, they'd have to ruin it all.

"So you came over to annoy me?" he asked.

"Annoy you? Why would you think we would do that?" Sapphire gasped. "No, no, we were very interested in talking with you. Seeing what our precious brother is up to! We were so worried about you. We thought you ran off."

Her words were sickening to hear. That fake sympathy and compassion that made his stomach churn. "I was doing just fine before you got here." He swiped at the sand.

"You don't like us?" Lagoon crooned. "I thought you cared about us. Aren't we your sisters? I mean, we could always treat you worse." They walked up onto the shore. They were far bigger than him, perhaps another head taller. "I don't think you'd like that. You're already so weak."

"I am not weak!" he snapped back.

Sapphire let out a squawk of a laugh. "You couldn't even catch a seagull! You just kept jumping around it. Great reefs, that's sad to see."

Albatross turned around and tried to get away, only to trip and fall. His tail was caught under their talons. His chin hit the sand with a distinct thump.

"Where are you going?" They both said in an eerie harmony. "We just got here!"

"Just leave me alone..." Albatross grabbed at his ears, pulling them down to try and block their words out. But, to no avail.

"What? Can't handle a little light teasing? Moons above, that's so sad." Sapphire walked in front of him, looking him up and down. Her eyes landed on the seashell clutched to his chest.

A wicked grin cracked across her snout as she said, "ooh, what's that you've got there?" Her voice was grating, like claws against metal.

"It's mine!" he yelled back. He tried to sound intimidating, but it came out as a mere squak.

"Give it." Sapphire grabbed at it, tugging the shell.

"No! Please, Sapphire..." He held onto it tighter, pulling it back.

"Why do you care so much about this stupid thing?" she laughed. "Do you really not have anything else to care about."

Albatross tried to speak, but the words never found their footing. He stammered and stuttered, choking back tears. Yet, he kept holding on. He couldn't let them take another thing from him. Even if it was as small as a shell, he wanted something to call his own.

"What, are you going to cry?" Sapphire mocked. "Boo hoo, my mean ol' sister took my stupid shell." She whacked him in the stomach with her tail.

He recoiled, letting go. The pain shot through his system, taking the air from his lungs. He gasped for breath as he looked up to her.

She stood there, absently inspecting the shell. "Stupid shell," she said, "I can't believe you fought so much over it. Besides, it'll be mine anyway. Everything here will be mine. I'm the eldest daughter, right? So, obviously, I'll be queen. And when I'm queen, I own everything. You're just a prince."

She tilted her head to the side, mocking his mannerisms. "But, nobody will care. Nobody loves you. We just have to put up with you and your weird, ugly self."

Albatross dug into the sand. Tears welled in his eyes. "That's...not true." He mumbled.

"What's that?" Lagoon asked. "What did you say? Say it again!" She grabbed him by the neck.

"I said it's not true!"

The both of them cackled like a flock of seagulls. "What?! Of course it is! Who even likes you?" Sapphire flicked her tail at him. "You could die right here and nobody would cry. Nobody would care."

Then, a shift in Sapphire's eyes. "You know, that won't be the worst thing in the world. Mother wouldn't even be upset. Princes are only meant to be married off, but who could even stand to be with you." She raised her talons, claws still on the shell. "Wouldn't you like that, brother?"

Albatross's stomach dropped. "No...no, no, no please, Sapphire, no..."

"Sapphire?" Lagoon said, "I'm not...I don't think that's a good idea." She sounded genuine.

"Why not? What has he ever done to us? For anybody? He just makes everything worse." She brandished her claws. "It'd be better for everyone."

Fear took hold of his body. He flailed in all directions, yet he could not free himself from Lagoon's hold. The only free thing was his mouth.

He looked up. He saw the shell. Then, as though instinct itself was speaking through him, he screamed. He could barely comprehend it before the words left his mouth.

"BITE HER!" he yelled, crying louder than he ever had before. "TEAR HER CLAWS OFF!"

The next moment was painted in scarlet. A splatter of ruby liquid on the sand. It pooled and grew larger, dripping down from above.

Albatross didn't feel like himself. There was a loud, piercing ring in his ears that drowned the world out. His body felt cold and numb. His brain was full of fog and he could barely think. He felt detached from reality, like an observer of the chaos.

The pressure that was on him– Lagoon, definitely– released. He pushed himself upwards, staggering to his talons. He looked blankly ahead.

She was thrashing. Her mouth was unhinged as though she was screaming, but Albatross couldn't hear a thing through the ring. Her wails and cries, while inaudible, were full of agony. Her face was painted with horror.

Lagoon was by her side, similarly in shock. She was trying to stop Sapphire, keep her still. Eventually, she tore something from Sapphire's claws. It landed by Albatross's talons, splashing in the puddle of blood. It splattered onto him, his talons, everything.

It was the clamshell. Its jaws held bits and pieces of flesh and gore in them.

He looked back at Sapphire. She held her talons up. Where her claws should have been were fountains of viscera. They were both screaming. Lagoon turned to him, yet he couldn't hear a word. He felt hollow. Absent. There should have been emotion, but instead, everything was muted. 

This...couldn't be real. Why was this happening? He didn't mean to hurt her. He didn't want to hurt her. Whatever it was, he knew it was his fault.

He looked at his talons, and for the first time in his life, he became aware of the slight burning sensation within his claws.

Rapidly, he gained feeling all over his body, as if suddenly pulled back into reality. His knees gave way and he fell to the ground. He shook, trying desperately to make so much as a squeak, yet nothing came out. His eyes were wide with fear.

The screams. By the tides the screaming. It was unlike anything he could properly fathom. A shrill shriek that made his blood run cold. He couldn't properly think of what else to compare it to. He had never heard somebody in so much pain before. 

Lagoon quivered, tears rolling down her face. She looked back at Albatross, her expression shifting to one of hatred and anger. "YOU KILLED HER!" she snapped. "How could you do this?! You- you monster!"

"I didn't mean to-"

"You did! You killed her! She's going to die!"

Albatross tried choking out another response, but he couldn't. He backed away. The sands were stained with Sapphire's blood. Everywhere he stepped his talons became soaked in it. 

It was his fault. Everything. He's to blame. Sapphire is dying. All that happened was a little squabble. She probably didn't mean it when she said she was going to kill him. 

But how? How could he do this? He was just a SeaWing. A normal, typical dragon.

He felt sick to stand there. Slimy and disgusting. A passive observer while watching her sister bleed out and die. She didn't deserve this.

He stared at Sapphire's stubby talons. They gushed blood. He held out his claws, pointing to it. He didn't know why. It felt right. That same instinct rushed through him. This deep-rooted knowledge that he never knew he had.

"Stop bleeding!" he cried out. The words were loud and clear, as if he was ordering Sapphire.

Then, stillness. Sapphire held up her claws. The three stood in silence as the scales began to heal. They did not regrow the talons but left them as is. They were healed.

Sapphire stared blankly at her talons, eyes wide and transfixed on them. Then, she promptly fainted. Not dead, but simply overwhelmed. She wasn't going to die. He saved her.

"It's...healed?" Albatross muttered. "How? Why? There can't be any-"

"Magic."

A pang in his heart. He turned back to Lagoon. "What?"

"Animus magic." She looked at him, her eyes piercing his very soul. "That was magic. You're an animus."

Chapter 10: Encounters at sea

Summary:

Anthony is finally releasing his genetically enhanced cyanobacteria into the ocean... but then, something crazy happens, and he sees a familiar face from long ago...

“It’s too late to turn back now.”

Anthony crossed the sandy old railroad track. It was an ‘alea iacta est’ kind of moment. He knew he would have to pay the price eventually.

He descended into the picturesque lagoon. The coast always had its own particular climate. Things somehow seemed less desperate here.

He waded into the strangely cool water and turned to look back up the cliff one more time. His old, secure life lay there, behind him. That was in the past now.

“I could just do it here…” He thought. But no, a little further out at sea would be ideal.

Behind the large cliff lay a speedboat. He climbed onto it and started the engine. It worked. Thank God. He sailed along, on and on.

He had brought a couple of blunts from Brandon’s house. As the salty water gently rocked his boat, he lit one and smoked. It was the only way to calm himself down. God, he was tired. He passed out.

When he woke up, he could no longer see the shore. Shivers of anticipation ran down his spine.

“Just a little further…”

The sea seemed an endless blue. But then he encountered a slight fog.

“This should be excellent…”

He took several vials out of his pockets and looked at them gratefully. He had saved some of the cyanobacteria after the fight while the agent was talking to Tommy, and then he had kindly fucked the frick off.

“So, this is it…”

But then Anthony heard a loud, erratic sputter overhead.

“What the-”

A loud splash and then lots of waves. People screaming. Gunshots. His boat nearly capsized from the crashing waves and he fell backwards. Then it was quiet. As he crawled back op, the fog started to dissipate. In the distance, he saw a lifeboat with two figures on it. They were both soaking wet.

“So, this is it!”

Dave Dilford was panting. He still wore that infuriating vest with his douchily rolled-up sleeves. But his glasses were cracked, and he now had a Walther PPK in his hand.

“Finally, it’s you and me! None of your little friends are around to save you now!”

“What are you going to gain from this, Dave? Why kill me?”

Dave spat his words out. “Don’t you get it, Eeny? All my work at Defy, all the excellent and FUNNY content strategies, which I deployed for YOUR SAKE, you absolute douchebag… it’s all over. Because you had to go and play the hero.”

“This is about work?! You kill for work grievances? I thought it would at least be ideological or something. This is just sad, man.”

“FUCK YOU, HECOX! We were a great comedy team, a duo.”

Ian shook his head. “We were never a duo, Dave.”

“Together we conquered America! How dare you jeopardize that?! How am I getting a job after your presidency? No, I deserve more! I am the hero! I save you from your rogue secret service,” Dave grinned, “which I bribed. But alas, it’s too late. They got you!”

Dave aimed at Ian’s chest.

“Right in the-”

But then, *it* happened.

Something stirred under the water, right under the lifeboat. Submerging from the depths of the ocean came the jaw of a monster. A black and white monster.

Anthony had sat there frozen all this time, but now he let out a gasp.

A killer whale bit the boat in half. Specifically, the half where Dave stood just a moment ago. He was gone.

Ian fell into the ocean.

“Oh, fuck me.” Ian swam for his life, but he also just accepted that he was about to be devoured by a group of hungry orcas. His suit was weighing him down. He wrestled out of his jacket. But he could already see the black fins circling him, getting closer…

Seemingly out of nowhere, a speedboat approached. He was hoisted on board, nearly missing the orca’s second bite.

“Ugh, wet wet wet…” Ian panted as he tried to squeeze the sea water out of his tie.

“Whew, that sure was a Free Willy moment…”

Ian snorted. A bit of dark humor was just what he needed. Looking up, he saw who had just saved him. His eyes widened.

“Huh… Are you… No frickin’ way, are you from Sac’?

“Yes sir, born and raised!” Anthony was freaking out so much he couldn’t even look straight. What had just happened?

All he had seen was a bad guy aiming a gun and then getting absolutely mauled by a killer whale. Oh yeah, the orcas were probably still out here.

“I have to get us out of he- huh?”

Anthony finally looked at Ian.

“Mister president?”

“Ian, please call me Ian.”

“Yes sir! Ian.”

They both leaned forward, still panting. Ian’s eyes searched Anthony’s face like he was looking for some lost childhood memories. And then Anthony remembered as well.

“Oh shit, it’s you! You’re Ian Hecox from school!”

“And you’re Anthony Padilla.” Ian’s whole face lit up.

“Wow, the president knows my name.”

“Hey! Don’t get any illusions. I just remember you because – yeah just like that! – your laugh is mega-annoying!”

Ian was sure he was dreaming. Could it be that he had found that guy, THAT GUY! From high school! Here, at sea?! Of course, his laugh wasn’t annoying. It was the best sound in the world. It was like Ian could finally breathe again.

Anthony and Ian were both giggling like Beavis and Butthead, half from recognizing each other after all these years, and half to alleviate the stress from being nearly shot and then devoured by sea monsters.

“I can’t get over the fact that I’ve seen you plenty on tv and even knew your name, but I never recognized you! I just never put two and two together.”

“Yeah bro, that’s on you.” Ian’s soaked shirt was see-through, and Anthony couldn’t help but look.

“So, Ian, we really should get out of here, huh. But there’s something I need to do first. And it’s kind of perfect that you’re here with me, right now.”

“Okay, okay, I guess we could kiss…” Ian puckered up his lips dramatically.

“Mister president!” Anthony laughed. So this was what he had missed for all those damn years.

“Come on, just a little kissy kissy!”

Anthony scratched his neck. “Would it still be considered an Australian kiss with the US president?”

“Hmm, I don’t know actually…” Ian looked like he was considering the linguistic possibilities. “But wait, what do you need to do in a speedboat in the middle of the ocean?”

“Well… I kind of engineered a species of algae that spreads through the water like a virus but actually does extreme carbon capture. It has a chance to.. to…”

Saying it out loud, finally, made Anthony once again realize the gravity of it all. He had worked on this for so long. Knowing it could very well either save the world, or make everything worse, or both at once. For one person to make such a grave decision was unfair to, well, probably all other life on earth. And the burden of that choice had been heavy.

“So, let me get this straight,” Ian said. He didn’t seem bothered at all by Anthony’s confession. “You’re planning an act of ecoterrorism, and you’re telling your president about it?”

“Okay if you put it that way it sounds bad!”

“It does, doesn’t it? Hehe, nah, you’re fine. Do you really think – Wow, I’m getting so many flashback memories just looking at you – you think this will work?”

“Only one way to find out, sir.”

“Just call me Ian.”

“Okay, Ian.”

“Anthony.”

“…Ian.” Anthony laughed.

“Alright, dickhead. Let’s do this!”

Anthony got one vial from his pocket again.

“Doesn’t look like much, does it?”

“It looks like slime, to be honest.”

“It kinda is slime. But it’s very, very potent.”

“It looks like the Hulk’s jizz or something.”

“It thrives in salt water, and when in contact with CO2, it starts to procreate.”

“Well, there’s lots of carbon out there so I’m sure this goo will love it.”

Anthony took off the lid and poured the vial into the water.

“Do we see any of it?”

“We should, yeah… It’s still too misty, though.”

Anthony poured the rest of his vials into the ocean as well. The adrenaline finally got him though, and he tightly shut his eyes and held his breath.

“Please, please work,” he thought.

“Holy... Anthony?”

“Yeah?”

“Open your eyes?”

As he did, he gasped.

“Oh my god!”

“Oh my frick. I guess you did it.”

Their boat was surrounded by green. Anthony half laughed, half sobbed and launched himself into Ian for a tight hug.

“There, there…” Ian was suddenly up-close with Anthony’s body. It was very intense. The muscles, the tattoos… He patted his old classmate’s shoulder.

“You did good. If I could, I’d give you a medal or some shit.”

“Thank you mist- Ian.”

“So, what do we do now?”

That question startled Anthony. Was the president really looking for guidance from – him? Anthony blurted out: “I guess we can go back to shore? I bet everyone will be searching for you.”

“I somehow doubt it.” Ian sighed. “The things I’ve seen, Anthony, you don’t want to know about it. I took a principled approach to being president, only to wind up in some Game of Thones ass shit. You just saw that guy trying to off me. And there’s plenty more where he came from.”

“Oh shit, really?”

“Yeah, but you know, it was bound to happen eventually. I rather not go to shore yet, though.”

Anthony started the motor. The fog got thicker again. And that was for the best because they heard several helicopters pass in all directions. But the green sea around them had Anthony in a great mood. The algae had spread so fast, that everywhere they went, the surface of the water had already turned into an aggressive emerald.

“So, won’t it be kind of dark for the fish and stuff?” Ian had put on sunglasses now and Anthony was still marveling at having his president and that really funny guy from school, all in one. “Not that there are much fish left…”

“No, the algae are quite opaque. Also, as soon as they’re full enough with carbon, they sink down, basically a permanent source of fish food! And making room for new growth.

“That’s crazy dude.” Ian leaned back, almost relaxed. “And what will happen to the rest of the planet?”

“If all goes according to plan,” Anthony said while looking into the distance, “Earth’s temperatures are going to go down drastically, fast. Give it a couple of months, say. I know it’s very geo-engineering-y but Ian, we tried everything else.”

“We sure did.”

Another helicopter flew over.

“What do you think they will do once they find us?”

“Let’s not find out just yet, alright?”

“Sure.”

They sailed deeper into the fog. Until they almost crashed into another boat.

Summary: having been best friends since childhood, you and Chris both find yourselves shipwrecked on an island. Now being in a life threatening situation, will you finally admit to your feelings?

A/N: this is my first request, and I'm really, really reaalllly excited. Hope this goes well and y'all like it:)

Over the weekend, you and Chris had planned to go out on a boat trip together. Lately, the two of you had been so caught up with work that you rarely had time to spend with each other. With Chris and his acting and you with your job, it seemed like a much-needed thing to do.

And so, the both of you agreed to do the one thing you both enjoyed—Sailing. It was the one time you guys were able to escape reality and get away from everyone and everything else.

Having been best friends since you were kids, the only people in the world the two of you found tolerable was each other. Chris was your favourite person, and you were his.

It was some time in the afternoon, Chris had his hands on the steering wheel of his boat while you were lying on your back on the deck behind him.

You closed your eyes and drew in a lung full of salt air, letting the sound of the waves fill your ears and pull you away. In your head, you were floating away into a deep unknown.

"What're you thinking about?" Your train of thought was then interrupted when Chris asked you a question, grinning to himself.

You looked up at him, eyes squinting and hands blocking the sunlight from hitting your face. "Pushing you off the rail. And you?" you responded, a grin dancing along your lips.

He scoffed, shaking his head. "Ouch," he said, bringing his hand to his chest, imitating a heart attack.

You couldn't help but chuckle at his response and blow a raspberry at him, causing a small smile to form on Chris' lips. Then, you continued where you left off, eyes closing shut as you clasped your hands together to support the back of your head.

A moment of silence went by when all of a sudden, the boat shook. Your eyes peeled open and shot towards Chris, who looked shocked himself. "What was that?" you asked, slowly getting up.

"I don't know. I think we just hit a boulder, shit," Chris answered frantically, trying to seize control of the now rogue steering wheel—the both of you were struggling to regain balance and composure.

Just as Chris was about to turn the boat around, it struck something even more significant, causing it to tumble over and over. You felt yourself slip off the rail and fall into the ocean water, sharp needles piercing at your heart, body thrashing inside an invisible prison.

Your body was fighting for every last bit of air as you weakly tried to push yourself out of the water with your arms and hands already starting to cramp up.

Just as you were about to give up and go to sleep, your eyes made out an image of a body approaching you, holding its hands out, reaching for you.

When those cold hands got a hold of you, that's when you let go of everything—eyes shutting close and letting nothing but darkness close in on you.

A few hours passed, you found yourself lying blacked out upon the open shore of a deserted island—the sounds of the calm waves gently drenching the sand.

You jolted awake as a flood of warm seawater washed up in between your toes, eyes immediately scanning around to take in the view around you. Chris faded into view right beside you.

It seemed as though he was the first to wake up.

He was drying himself up with his flannel when you winced in pain, grabbing his attention. His movements paused, eyes lingering on your face and then down to your thighs.

Your eyes trailed over to where Chris was looking, eyes protruding at the horrifying sight. A sudden feeling of realization washed over you, and you let out a sharp cry of agony.

"Shit," Chris hissed through gritted teeth, dropping his flannel and making his way towards you.

His soft and wet fingers urgently brushed along your wounded thighs, and for a moment, you felt safe. And for a moment, you wished it would stay this way.

You flinched out of pain, and instant regret washed over you when he took his hand off of you, and that little bit of warmth that you've been longing for was taken away from you.

"You OK?" Chris asked, his tone soft and eyes full of concern.

A nod was all you managed to give.

Taking your silence and nod as a yes, he grabbed his flannel. Then, he wrapped it around your thighs gently, trying his best not to hurt you. You inhaled a sharp breath at the contact, and a single tear slid down your cheek.

You held onto the slash for pressure, the blood still gushing between your fingers and oozing under your hand. It had spread into Chris' rain-damp t-shirt; the bright red hue quickly darkened, taking on a brownish hue.

After the blood began to lessen, Chris took a deep breath and wiped his blood-stained hands on his pants. "Alright, you stay here. I'm gonna go and make a shelter. We don't know how long we're gonna be stranded here," he said, getting up.

"I'll help," you offered, already getting up and starting to dust the sand sticking on the palm of your hands.

"No. Do me a favour and stay put, alright? Can't you see that you're hurt?" he says sternly, stopping you in your tracks. "I don't wanna see you getting hurt again."

You scoffed at his response. "Chris, I wasn't asking. I wanna help," you responded, making Chris roll his eyes.

Then, he grabbed hold of your arms, gently holding you into place. "Y/N, look. You've got a bloody thigh that could cut open again at any time now," he said, looking at your poorly-wrapped wound.

"OK, fine, that's my fault, but- looking at our current situation now, you've only got two choices; either you stay put and avoid what might happen if you don't, or," he warned, "you can follow me and probably end up bleeding to death in the middle of nowhere," he finally finished, glaring at you.

The both of you were now standing head to head with each other, your mind working for a response. "This is no time to be stubborn, Y/N," Chris said, pulling you away from your thoughts.

You brought your head up to look at him towering over you, your eyebrows furrowed and face clearly masked with agitation. He stared back at you, an amused smirk appearing on his face.

And at that moment, you didn't know what to say, so you said nothing. Instead, you looked Chris in the eyes one last time and dismissed him with an exasperated huff. "Fine," you managed to let out, sitting back on the damp sand.

He laughed to himself, accepting your bitter approval and began making his way into the open jungle not too far from you. Your eyes followed the silhouette of his back until he faded out of sight.

"Need some help getting up?" Chris asked, offering his hand for you to take, "The shelter's done. I think it's safe to rest in now."

"You think?" you replied sarcastically, followed by a faint laugh. Chris laughed at your reply, shaking his head. "Thanks, Chris. Yeah, I could use some help."

With that, you slapped your hands onto the palm of his hand, and he began lifting you up slowly. His hands roamed along your back for support, making you shudder at his touch. Chris noticed and couldn't help but bite back a sneaky grin.

The both of you made your way towards his terribly built shelter, your arms slung across his shoulder. The sight made you stifle a laugh.

Chris turned his head towards you, and you burst into a fit of giggles. "What?" he questioned, an offended look written on his face.

It was your turn to turn your head towards him, cheeks puffed up from trying not to laugh. "Nothing, I just find it cute that you tried," you said, noticing a small smile etched across his face.

Then, silence took over, the sound of the placid ocean echoed in your ears.

It was just the two of you staring into each other's eyes. You were able to study Chris for a second, the way his breath hitched and the way his heart was beating against your chest.

Suddenly, his gaze moved down to your lips.

Oh no. You thought to yourself.

His hands held onto your back, bringing his face closer to yours.

Oh no, no, no, no.

He then brought his face even closer as you felt his breath fan across your face.

No, no, no!

Then, he shut his eyes close, scrunched tight in anticipation of something terrible.

Nope, this can't be happening. Not like this.

Without thinking, you did the most feeble-minded thing imaginable; shove him in the chest. You could feel your thigh sting as soon as he let go of you, trying your best not to let it show on your face.

Chris didn't fall back too far since you were too weak. He looked at you, and immediately his eyes were filled with confusion, slowly turning into fear. His pupils turned inwards, mouth slowly gaping open as though a sudden moment of realization had just hit him.

"Oh my god, Y/N. I'm so sorry, I must've read the signs all wrong, I thought you- we- I'm so sorry I-," he stuttered, struggling to find words as you observed him warily.

You watched as he brought his head down to look at his fingers, and pure guilt tore through your stomach watching him like that.

You had to do this. No more denying your feelings. This was it.

"Chris...I-" you whispered, slowly walking yourself back to him. Chris lifted his head to look at you. Then, with a feeling like a punch to the gut, you noticed that his eyes were bloodshot red and brimming with tears.

You took a step closer, your bodies now radiating the same heat, eyes mirroring each other's reflection. Your fingers brushed against the hem of Chris' shirt, worn cotton and white. You must have seen him in this shirt a thousand times before, but you had never seen it this close.

It complimented him well. No one looked better in it than he does.

"Do you feel the same way I do?" you asked, avoiding his eyes, "I'm sorry for pushing you like that and making you cry. I was just scared," you stated as you continued to fidget with his shirt.

His face was now looking down, tracing the movement of your fingers with his eyes. "Of what?" Chris then asked, facing you, his voice shaky.

You brought your head back up to look at him—really look at him. "Do you want this as much as I do? Us, I mean. Do you want me as much as I want you?" you asked, choking back a sob.

Chris' expression softened, his frown turning into a smile. "I don't want to sound cheesy, but I've liked you ever since I laid my eyes on you in pre-school," you paused to shrug, making Chris chuckle through sobs. "I liked you so much, and I still do! You were my first crush," you said, laughing as you wiped away your tears.

"But now I'm like-" you stopped to ponder over the remainder of your answer. "I love you, Chris. And- and I don't wanna stay friends anymore," you continued, feeling tears threatening to spill from your eyes again, "oh god. there, I said it." you finally said, chuckling as tears fell down your cheeks.

You brought your tear-stained eyes to look at Chris, who was at a loss for words. You couldn't make out his expression, but you could tell he was shocked by your sudden confession.

Then, a look of disappointment crossed your face. Just as you were about to let go of Chris, he grabbed hold of your wrist, pulling you closer. Now facing him, he brought his hands to tuck your hair behind your ear.

He took a moment to study you before he let out a breathy laugh. "You've been feeling this way for years?" he asked, and you nodded sympathetically, a pout forming on your lips.

As soon as you nodded, a big smile etched on Chris' face. "I love you too," he confessed, voice barely registered over a whisper.

Tears started falling down your cheeks, and a sheepish smile spread across your face. "Good because I really hate crying in front of people," you said, wiping your tears.

Chris smiled and straightened up to face you fully, hands cupping your tear-stained cheeks. "I know," he replied, drawing his face closer, and you inched your head just the slightest bit nearer.

And in those seconds that felt like years, he kissed you. All the nervousness you were so prone to feeling washed over you like a tidal wave. He was really kissing you, and you were really kissing him.

Your hands grasped onto his with vigour, desperate to feel as close to him as possible. Then, he pressed himself against you, making you whine in between kisses.

Supposedly, the searing pain on your thighs should've hurt even more at that moment, but instead, it didn't.

Finally breathless, you broke the kiss, smiling to yourself when you could still feel the taste of his lips lingering on yours.

What a way to ruin a friendship.

Gotham Monster!Verse AU’s?

Alright, but now, you all know that I am obsessed with Gotham AU’s but what I haven’t talked about is my LOVE of the Classic Universal Monsters, and I want to get your opinions on some of these crazy ideas of mine!

Dracula/Vampires: I already have two AU’s lined up with vampires, my Underworld AU/re-write and my Master Vampire Jervis idea so, let’s just move on.

Frankenstein: Victor (do I really have to specify at this point? You all know which one I’m obsessed with) and Bridgit are Strange’s modern day Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein creations and he wants them to mate, but the two can’t seem to stand each other so he hopes co-habitation will force them to get along. One day, however, Bruce comes to get answers about his parents death (or he’s an investigative journalist that gets caught, whichever sounds better) and, instead of outright killing him, they throw him to ‘The Ice Freak and Fire Bride’. Everyone expects to see Bruce get ripped to shreds, frozen and smashed, or just burnt to a crisp, but instead, the pair are most curious about him and attack any who try to take him away from them.

The Mummy: This is one I’m not sure on, just because we’ve had numerous interpretations of the Mummy story (yes, the one with Tom Cruise was trash, but the story idea was still unique). So, let’s try this route; villain of your choice (I’m leaning towards Jerome, Jeremiah, or Jonathan myself) is an ancient Egyptian Prince/Princess who tries to invoke Kek, the Egyptian God of Darkness and Chaos, but is caught before the ritual can be completed and mummified alive. Transport to modern day and the Wayne’s are funding an excavation for the fabled Prince/Princess who Courted Chaos. When they find the tomb, Bruce accidentally gets blood on the sarcophagus and awakens the sleeping prince/princess who is very grateful and wants to make Bruce their consort to rule over the chaos Kek will bring when they successfully bring him about this time.

The Invisible Man: Jonathan (or Jerome just because I can see the crazy little shit enjoying this) invents a concoction that turns him invisible for a few hours which he uses to scare the daylights out of people. Then, one night, Bruce comes upon the scene where a young couple are being mugged and saves them, unaware of his invisible audience. Jonathan tails him to try and understand why he wasn’t afraid of getting hurt and why he would put himself in danger for strangers and tries to psyche him out, but Bruce is quick to realize he’s got an unwanted guest. He fights Jonathan, almost getting the upper hand but he forgot about Jonathan’s chemicals and is sadly knocked out. When he comes too, he is strapped to a bed and Jonathan wants to see just how brave Bruce can be in the face of the unknown.

The Wolfman: Poor, weak, little Jonathan is constantly picked on in high school, and often finds himself being protected from the bullies by his crush, Bruce Wayne. Sick of always needing to be rescued, he wants Bruce to see him as someone strong enough to stand beside him, not behind him. While asking his dad for advice, Gerald has to leave suddenly and leaves an untested serum out where it shouldn’t be. It’s meant to make people better by giving them certain attributes of wolves; their speed, strength, sense of smell and hearing, lightness of feet, everything Jonathan needs for Bruce to really see him. After he takes the serum, people are shocked by how different Jonathan becomes, including less fearful and more aggressive. Soon, however, there are news reports of the bullies of the school being attacked by some rabid dogs, alive but almost torn to pieces. Not to mention Jonathan has started asking Bruce on dates and can be a little... aggressive when kissing. After all, all wolves need a mate.

The Phantom of the Opera: Jervis is the Phantom who loves a stagehand, Jonathan Crane, who loves Theodora Galavan's (Galavan as a woman, *shudders*; I think I just gave myself a case of the heebie jeebies) understudy, Bryce Wayne, a beautiful singer and dancer who sadly has not had the chance to shine yet. Jervis strikes a deal with Jonathan; if he helps Bryce become the star, Jonathan will allow Jervis to have sex with him. Jonathan is so in love with Bryce, and more than a little intrigued by what the Phantom has in store to make Theodora (who’s a real bitch to everyone) leave, that he agrees. As Bryce rises, and Jonathan actually does start to fall in love with Jervis, Jervis himself falls for Bryce's charm and beauty too and decides, why not have his cake and eat it too? Jervis proposes the idea to Jonathan who loves it as he too would get the best of both worlds and wouldn’t have to worry about Bryce being chewed up and spat out by a fickle audience. Jonathan gives her a sleeping draft and they manage to transfer her to 'Underland' where Jervis and Jonathan set about convincing the young Opera Star she'll only get hurt up there, so why not stay with them? 

Creature from the Black Lagoon: My personal favourite of the Classic Monsters, so who better than my favourite Rogue for this one? Bryce is part of an expedition to find remains of a fossil that could prove some sort of link between marine life and land life in the arctic region. While there, she is spotted by a creature that is half man/half octopus (our own Mr. Freeze), who decides she would make a very pretty mate and kidnaps her, taking her to his underground spot that has a dry spot where she can rest. Unable to hold her breath long enough to escape on her own, and knowing the search parties probably think she drowned, Bryce is very limited in options, particularly when Victor offers her a potion that will let her breathe under water where she won’t feel the cold as strongly. Bryce agrees to take it, hoping to get back to her party, but Victor was ready for any kind of tricks and manages to freeze her arms and legs, where he then proceeds to show her how... talented, his tentacles are.

I also have one or two for nature spirit Ivy and one featuring a plot similar to a movie from the early 2000s called Mermaid Chronicles: She Creature, but this is long enough.

The Great Battle between the Heroes and Villains

And the Villains won, massacring the heroes. A civil war occured that wiped out the greater Villains. Now slowly dying, Earth has become a land of mercenaries, marauders, and creatures of horror or rage. In this land, former US Soldier Randall Malloy is brought into a greater world as his life is targeted by enemies beyond his scope. Relying on his protector, the Symbiote Lesion, they must survive in a world where chaos reigns and the world is far more grey than it is black and white.

The Great Battle between the Heroes and Villains

And the Villains won, massacring the heroes. A civil war occured that wiped out the greater Villains. Now slowly dying, Earth has become a land of mercenaries, marauders, and creatures of horror or rage. In this land, former US Soldier Randall Malloy is brought into a greater world as his life is targeted by enemies beyond his scope. Relying on his protector, the Symbiote Lesion, they must survive in a world where chaos reigns and the world is far more grey than it is black and white.
