Isamu's story

He was always second place to his older brother. Monoko. Monoko was the "angel" to his parents. While monoko didn't have an ability he was seen as perfect. When isamu was born monoko viewed it as a threat to his power. So,he was dead set on making his life hell. And make it hell he did.

Monoko constantly took any and all attention that his brother would get. Making sure to leave none of isamu.

Monoko would never get in trouble. Why? Because he would always blame isamu. Did his parents believe monoko? Of course they did, because monoko was the "angel". Why would there precious angel do anything bad? It was obliviously isamu.

And when he did get in trouble, he would get punished. His punishments would range from beatings until he passed out, starvation, being locked in the basement, insulting him and much more.

His school life wasn't any better. Just like at home monoko was viewed as the "angel". Everybody wanted to be his friend. Which made it easy for monoko to keep on torturing poor isamu. He would get bullied,beaten,and robbed from at school. Did the teachers help? Nope. They didn't do anything to help.

Unfortunately, life could always get worse. And worse it did. How isamu discovered his ability was from self defense. One day while in the kitchen monoko was about to stab him. When his ability activated, the knife flew out of his hands and landed near isamu with a clatter.

Monoko screamed, and his parents came Running to the kitchen to see what was wrong. Once monoko pointed at isamu and said that he tried to kill me. It was all over for the poor boy.

They threw him into the basement and chained him to the wall. The next day he was sold. To a criminal organization known as "lock and key" for 500 bucks.

For the next 2 years his life would be hell. His master, who goes by "anox" was cruel and heartless. For the slightest mistake he would be punished severely. He would be kept in a cage when not doing work. Said cage was kept in the cellar where corpses, rats and bugs often resuedes.

His life finally became better on his 13th birthday, when the black doves stormed the place. Scarlett was the first one that saw him. She was devastated at his condition, it reminds her of what she looked like at the lab. She couldn't help but take him in. She rushed him to Yuka who immediately got to work.

He woke up an hour after the operation confused and scared. But Scarlett took a very soft and gentle approach to him.

It took a half of a year for him to trust the black doves and the rest of it to become one. Now isamu is 15 and is the youngest black dove in history.

“Fedya.” You called as you knelt down to look under the couches. “Fedya!” you began to despair, you had already searched all over the house and still couldn't find your pet rat. Now, don't ask me how you convinced Fyodor to adopt a rat and give him his nickname, I don't know.

You had looked in every room but one.

You slowly walked through the house until you reached the place where Fyodor was always working. You knew he was there at that moment, you heard from outside the faint sound of keys being pressed, so you were justified in your nervousness, you didn't want to disturb Fyodor.

Anyway, you knocked on the door and stood tensely, waiting until a male voice said, “You can come in.”

“Fyodor, Fedya is lost, I can't find him.” You said the second you opened the door, while looking at him with a sad expression. It had been months since you had adopted the rat and you were already indescribably fond of him, instead Fyodor stayed more distant from him ( maybe because of the chosen name).

He turned to look at you as soon as you finished speaking, to see your expectant face for some answer or help. Expressionless, he removed his white ushanka revealing your beloved lost pet underneath.

“Fedya!” you yelled as you approached with your eyes full of life again. You held the rat between your hands carefully and hugged it. Laughter inevitably came out of your mouth. “What was it doing under your hat?”

“It climbed up me and got underneath.”

“And you left him there?” your smile widened as Fyodor nodded at your question. “I thought you didn't like him.”

“When did I say that?”

“It's just that you never take any notice of him.” You pouted to which the man couldn't help but smile.

“I don't like the name.” He quickly corrected along with a sigh, to which you could only laugh. “He's fine, doesn't bother.”

“I'm glad.” Gently, not wanting to disturb Fyodor or Fedya, you placed the rat back on his head, which curled up comfortably as Fyodor looked at you quizzically. “I think he'll be more comfortable there.”

Ryūnosuke Akutagawa

Your feet hurt as you took out the key to the apartment where you currently lived with your boyfriend. It was a long day of work, although you could quit and be unemployed without any problems, as Akutagawa can provide for you without any problems, you still wanted to have your own money and not be entirely dependent.

You walked in to find the place with all the lights off, you guessed your boyfriend was still out, not unusual considering his job at the Port Mafia. The weird thing was not finding Rashōmon, your cat.

You entered the room shared by both of them and there you saw one of the cutest scenes Akutagawa could be involved in. On the bed, Aku was deeply asleep, breathing peacefully as was Rashōmon, who lay on his stomach in a ball, with the man's hand on his back.

The latter wiggled its ears at the sound of your laughter stifled by your hands, not wanting to wake anyone. Despite your efforts, your pet opened its eyes, which stood out in the darkness. It seemed as if his eyes came out of nowhere, as his black fur was indistinguishable in the dull light.

You quietly approached him and petted his head, making him purr.

You changed your clothes to a much more comfortable one, still trying to keep the quietness of the place. You knew Ryūnosuke should be tired, so you didn't want to wake him up.

Carefully, you lay down next to him, covering them both with the soft sheets. You laid your head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, while petting the cat with one of your hands.

With the mix of these calming sounds and the whole moment, you couldn't resist falling asleep.

Nikolai Gogol

You think it was a bad idea, adopting a white dove and calling it Kolya sounded funny at first, and Nikolai seemed to have no problem, but over time his behavior changed.

You don't quite understand, you don't know what goes through his head when he just stares at the dove in his cage. You had seen his emotions, those that he takes so much care that they cease to matter to reach freedom, but still you don't know what to do and you can't help but feel immense guilt.

One day you sit next to him, so that both of you can look at the animal for the desired amount of time.

“Do you want to release it?”

“It would surely die, and if it didn't, it would go home because it's not used to and doesn't want freedom.” Despite his somewhat subdued tone of voice, he has a smile on his face. You decide not to press him about it, after all it's only a matter of time and trust that he will tell you about how he feels, you just need to be as understanding with him as possible.

“Oh.” Silence once again imprints itself in the room, until after a couple of minutes you speak again. “And isn't there a way to teach him to be free?”

“Then he wouldn't be truly free. He would act as quoted, not on his own like free-ranging doves.”

“Mmmh, right.” Guilt still fills you, it's obvious you shouldn't have adopted the bird, a dog would have been much better. "But still, I think it's better that it's locked up in there. It wouldn't be free at all, but it would be close, don't you think?”

“Yes, I suppose that's better than nothing.”

Your hands gently intertwine and you drop your head on her shoulder. You'd be here long enough to comfort Nikolai.

An Open Letter to the BSD Fandom

Long post incoming. TL;DR: fuck fandom bullying. Full stop.

Fellow BSDers,

I have been writing for the BSD fandom since August 2021, where I started to write my way out of my big traumas. Somehow, with one image in my head, I started the CAU with A Drop of Black Coffee in the Pot. I'm not entirely sure if that makes me a "big name" in the fandom or whether that gives what I'm about to say more "clout," but hey... it's worth a shot, yeah? Because maybe people will listen.

Maybe.

Since coming into this fandom, I've made a lot of friends through Discord, and I have had a blast creating for, with, and among them. Through Discord, I became a rare pair aficionado and gained a soft spot for Chuuatsu, ChuuRan, and others. The conversations I had with fans, in short, brought me more than peace from my traumas. I found myself among a community who, through shared interests in pretty anime characters based on historical authors, held me up as I faced more traumas, enjoyed more successes, and just... lived.

HOWEVER (emphasis), in the last year or so, three of who I would consider my closest Discord friends--three people I care deeply about--have been bullied out of the fandom for their unconventional ships or portrayal of characters or preference for dead dove content, and two more have been targets of cyberbullying.

In one case, I was also targeted by Dazai Anon (one of the cyberbullies mentioned above). My response to this is always simple: I laugh at the death threats because I'm already dead inside, I delete the comments, I block the posts, and I keep writing what brings me joy. Sometimes, that's ChuuAtsu. Sometimes, that's a more popular ship. And in all cases, that's totally fine.

But that's me. And not everyone is like me.

I've written this post a dozen times in my head. I contemplated, as the "adult" in the room, putting everyone in timeout or putting on my disappointed parent face. But instead, I settled on this.

BSD fandom, respectfully, what the actual fuck?

Let me be perfectly clear: there is no good reason to ever bully anyone, but ships, tropes, character preferences and readings? These are among the worst. And don't even get me started on what's "canon."

What I guess I'm really trying to say is this: the three people I know who stopped making BSD content did because certain members of the community took their fun away. And that's never okay. There is room in the fandom for the main ships and the rarepairs. There's room for the fluffmongers, angst fiends, and dead dove aficionados. In fact, many of the friends I mention write content I personally don't, nor do they tend to write fluff and explicit consent the way I tend to, but guess what? We appreciate each other's art. We share ideas. We hold each other up. And, most of all, we're friends, anyway.

So if I'm in any place to ask this fandom for anything, it's to keep your own space as a writer/creator without taking someone else's space away. It's to have fun creating content SKK, but stop taking fun away from the people who create DaRan or DazAtsu or KuniDazai or Kouyou x Dazai or whatever ship. Most important, be kind to one another, regardless of what characters, tropes, or ships we love because at the end of the day, we're not just pseuds or creators; behind the screen, we're human.

As people, I don't think we have anything to lose in this. We can still work around tags and tropes and ships and characters we don't enjoy. Plus, who knows? You might make a new friend, gain new perspective on a character dynamic you never thought about, exchange ideas and share excitement about the newest manga chapter... and that might bring joy to both of you.

I really hope this letter to be the start of something bigger, maybe something that will move through boundaries between fan communities. I've thought about events, challenges, movements... but my limited resources as a creator with 99 mental health issues mean that for now, those ideas will have to wait. This letter, inadequate as it feels, still says most of what I want it to say.

I often say I appreciate people taking the time to read my fics. I mean that for this letter, too. So thank you, truly.

And as always, don't forget to drink water.

I'm not a BSD person but I gotta know. Since the black haired guy already died (?) once for "were-tiger" does death stick in this series? Or do we think "were-tiger" is coming back? I just. I gotta know.

Black-haired guy was bitten by a vampire presumably before actually dying by throat slash and thus avoided…uh. Dying. Maybe?? Because being a vampire in bsd is more like a very easily transmitted mind control disease?? Except now he isn’t a vampire he just has vampiric traits. Which so far has not actually been explained past a throwaway “oh look you’re more durable now.” This may have cured his formerly fatal lung disease for reasons, since he’s not coughing anymore. Also stole or overwrote his memories for a hot second.

Weretiger is not dead. However he dramatically dove before the blade to save his man amnesiac partner without being sure he’d survive it so we get the reaching for him and then fading slowly moment I’m not still sobbing about or anything.

He’s in the fourth-dimension, which means he’s both outside of and yet has access to all of space and time and he’s using it to simultaneously see memories of his partner’s formative trauma with him—which echoes weretiger’s formative traumas. And because the weretiger is somehow connected to the flow of spacetime re: some kind of magic book that may not actually be a book, he is the only one within this fourth dimensional space to remain himself and conscious. He is currently shoving open a door that probably represents something else on his way to go fight a manmade god. Or himself again. Or both. Also his tiger claws are what the bad guy wants because they can cut through abilities and potentially time itself. When he joins up with his partner’s abilities he can cut through space and reality. So. *squints* him fancy but very much not dead.

Bsd is insane, I will admit readily that I don’t have the scientific or sociopolitical background the author clearly possesses so an unfortunate amount of bsd goes over my head until someone takes the time to break it down for me. (And those of you that do, please know that I love you so much, teach me more things please)

But your Tl;dr is: weretiger’s fine. He’s the protagonist, even if some folks forget that. He’s gonna save everyone presumably with the power of love and acceptance and personal growth and also by beating the shit out of people with his special claws of specialness.
