hiiiii its been a while anywaysssss ive decided to take a crack solving trudys language again-

heres the canon symbols + a strong guess on M given the page context

H has me going fucking insane. its one of the canon letters in the story. and then yugo posted a singular trudy phrase which i have decoded below and. the H is different. but nothing else fits im going crazyyy. edit: i forgot theres capital letters. i remembered digraphs but not capitals. oops

i went through and found all the pages with trudys language [i mightve missed one but i think i got em all] and wrote the according letters over it- theyre all slightly transparent so u can see whats underneath.

edit 2: the 5 line character doesnt exist its an O variant. we know this bc trudys sign keeps the same characters throughout the book, and it has a clear O later on. also the sort of lightning shaped one resembles S slightly, making me think its Z as S and Z can produce similar sounds [same with B and V in spanish] 👍

um yea anyways ill let you get to it. if yall find anything / figure out anything new lmk!! ill add onto this w the new info :]

bkmn spoilers ahead!!

i noticed something that might give a hint to how lady trudy determines penances after noticing a small detail regarding tillman

in the beginning of the book, tillman has his full set of teeth, something i forgot about until i re-saw a panel which had no tooth gap. i went back into the book to figure out when and why this happened, when i realized that he got his tooth punched out when he picked up lady trudy’s poster and was contemplating it (the posters are heavily implied to be a way lady trudy can see what’s going on through), and having a dream conducted by lady trudy directly afterwards

this is an important detail because lady trudy asks tillman for his teeth as his penance later on, which i had always thought was a bit random. i wouldn’t have thought too much of it other than foreshadowing except for the fact that something similar happened in another part of the book: the small bit we see with neighbor’s backstory involving trudy

in the panel we see where he talks about his past, we see a bloodied body on the ground and then neighbor begging to trudy. how he found her, i’m not fully sure, but if he did indeed kill the person whose hand is on the ground, it would further support the theory that lady trudy predetermines one’s penance to her when they first see her or legitimately contemplate her

neighbor was very confident in assuring tillman he would not have to kill because “[he] is not like [neighbor]”, which once again strongly implies that neighbor had murdered before. with both these instances combined under similar circumstances, it leads me to believe that someone’s penance is determined by what happens to or from them when they see (and actually contemplate) her for the first time

still thinking about wegg's curse as a whole. he has to die every month, so it doesn't progress.

but like.. how did he figure that out. i doubt he was told that since the end goal is for it to progress??

he clearly figured it out on his own, or by having something happen to him, and i haven't seen anyone talk about that yet. that's a wholeass conversation in of itself.

i have sooo many thoughts abt Glenn harod but it is risky talk.... i think it is of such a big significance that the last three hearts Neighbor owns have all been from people Neighbor seen as aggressor to wegg (the two guys who beat wegg up, Glenn whos been distributing bad formulated drugs and unfortunately sold it to wegg), but Glenn is the only Permanent Stain on Neighbor´s face, he´s not cleaning it off, i know repression is a big part of Glenn but i also think hes a pushover who doesnt really look into who is he hanging with, bad judge of character, passive, we know the man that Neighbor killed at the start of the comic was also probably part of Glenn´s group , we know Neighbor been keeping track of everyone of those people, climbing up in the list, we know Neighbor knows that he comes to Glenn´s house to get ogled at every week (and while Neighbor is proud of his own body, would you be comfortable in the same situation?), and by the way he talks of this observation i say it annoys him. especially because he´s probably tried making some sort of connection with him before (diner waitresses mentioning hes brought the pharmacist in once) and Glenn didnt, probably do anything to be Actually friends with Neighbor, its all the little things, i say Neighbor was gonna kill him ("ive never let anyone in who i havent..."), sooner or later he was, but its the fact that he messed with Wegg, someone who is vulnerable and homeless before he starts living with neighbor , that drove him to do such a messy impulsive kill, and to let the stain Stay there. so many things to think abt....

Content: Violence, swearing, Female!Reader, no pairings, but Rarold is pathetic in this if you like your men like a wet cat.

The sun is barely peaking over the horizon as you increase the speed of your pedaling. You didn't mean to stay out so late biking the trails and honestly you were a bit lost. You know with the rumors swirling about a serial killer in Baths that you shouldn't stay out after dark, especially out in the woods. Suddenly your world spins as you feel yourself flying off your bike, crashing into the dirt and gravel. You look over to see your bike, it's front tire twisted, a large stick between the spokes. You start to pick yourself up, wondering how you even managed to do that when you feel a force push you back down. You feel a hand grab your arm and begin to drag you across the path. You stumble trying to pull away and get your feet under you when you finally take in who it was.

"Rarold?!"

Of course it had to be Rarold. The two of you were not on good terms since the time he over heard you make a comment in the diner soon after his wife went missing. Something about making yourself disappear too if you had to be married to him...

"Fucking bitch..." Rarold says. You recall him saying something similar to your remark that night in the diner. He continues to pull you along, muttering. You catch "barn" and "Kevin" before deciding you were done with whatever the hell this was. You dig your heals into the ground in an attempt to throw him off balance. Unfortunately he counters you, whipping his arm forward and sending you flying. You land face first next to him as he stands there, looking down at you and snickering.

"FUCK OFF RAROLD," you screech. Its now or never, in one swift motion you pull the pocket knife from your back pocket and slam it into Rarold's boot. He screams and you pray he ends up a few toes shorter after this experience. You feel dirt hit your face as he begins to run. You're fairly surprised at how quickly he can still haul ass with a limp.

You pick yourself up off the ground, now covered in dirt as a sense of rage washes over you. You weren't just going to let this asshole go, you begin to head in the direction you last saw him. You find yourself soon coming upon a clearing. An old abandoned barn.

As you walk along the back wall of the barn you see the silhouette of a figure and realize you caught up to Rarold. You notice the empty oil drums next to you and decide to pull a little trick you learned working at the local haunted house, scaring teens. A loud bang lets out as your fist connects with the side of the drum. You see the figure nearly jump out of its skin and scurry around the corner. You roll your eyes and mutter in disgust, "Rarold you little bitch."

You're surprised to hear a car door slam and the sound of the engine start up. You run around the corner to see that Rarold had hopped into his truck, the sounds of screeching as he quickly pulls away. You watch as the headlights disappear up the winding road, he's gone now. You accept that you're stuck hitchhiking back to town and you begin to walk along the side of the road.

coughs extremely loudly at the last post i reblogged bc ok. ok ok ok. bkmn spoiler talk under this but its partly WHY i made the scarecrow glenn au in the first place and i wanna talk abt some of my feelings on it

so. glenns death and like. the concept of him coming back is something so deeply FASCINATING to me for a variety of reasons.

to start off, it would benefit both glenn and neighbor as characters. for glenn, it would give him another chance at life and like. he would have a clean slate. he lost everything, but he also lost everything. in which to say, he is legally dead. he has nothing to his name. he's got no house, no pharmacy, no belongings. but he also has no debt, he has the ability to start anew if he wants. he has a CHOICE.

what he chooses to do with this second chance at life is up to him. he has to be brave and realized he REALLY messed up, but now he can prove himself, to others and also to himself. he can do better if he really tries. and since the au is specifically tied in with alfie bringing him back n seeing more in glenn than he even sees in himself, it inspires glenn to want to be better. alfie went thru the effort of bringing him back, he wants to find out the guy alfie sees in him. he wants to finally try.

for neighbor, in the book hes never really .. had to face consequences of being the heartbreaker n being someone who's killed a lot of people. glenn's the last person he kills, and all neighbor's punishment goes instead to rarold, who wasnt actually the heartbreaker. we dont get to see a lot of internal conflict with neighbor, or really get to see what hes like compared to wegg for example, so that could be a very interesting path to explore. we could hear how he feels abt having to kill ppl to keep his body he wants, and having to live with the fact that glenn didnt deserve that fate (and that neighbor seems to have regretted it, or at least acknowledged he acted more on an impulse than his own moral code.)

long story short: glenn being killed, and then brought back by the man who loves him would flesh him out as a character incredibly, and would flesh out neighbor as well

scribbled down a relationship chart for the forgotten valley bros to collect my thoughts after snooping into their dialogue files, because i’m crazy over the barebones scraps of tiny interactions between them that we are given they’re a neat group of lads and i want to see them in lots of wacky situations together

rambling explanation and screenshots under the cut. spoilers for dialogue

gordy and gustafa are bffs and i love them!!!!!

they have mutual respect for each other… gustafa clearly admires and understands gordy’s art, and gordy seems to view gustafa as his closest confidant, he even gets you and Gustafa the new kitchen if you enter chapter 2 without being able to “afford” it yourself

they only really mention each other and don’t have anything to say about the other two boys

no one has anything bad to say about gustafa, which is exactly how it should be. blessed bard. it’s extra sweet to me that he’s the most well-liked bachelor both in and out of the game given one of the npc gossip lines your son can tell you— he grew up without many friends (in the original game the secret was that he was bullied). he deserves all the happiness in the world

matt opinions

matt shares his Opinions (slander) on gordy and rock specifically if you show him your kid with them, but has no slander for gustafa… his line for gustafa is instead just copied from what he says about the bachelorettes’ kids. so i count that as a gustafa win

i had to stretch to find any mention of gustafa by matt, the closest thing is that he comments that he doesn’t usually go to the starlight concert

i want gustafa and matt to interact!!! i want gustafa to give matt a tomato when he’s being gruff like he did with nami (matt: “th-thank you…..*blush* i already have ten billion of these”) matt also has lines about farm work being easier when you’ve got music accompanying you if you show him a record so i’ll count that as a very flimsy positive connection (matt IS friendly with gavin, due to frequenting the bluebird café, but is a bit reticent to make friends on his own)

rock opinions and social diseases

rock is extremely excited about hearing gustafa play music and calls him a wizard at the guitar and says he never gets tired of hearing him play. he also likes wandering over to gustafa’s yurt and listening to his music along with tei on market days (his most normal bachelor to bachelor interaction)

the only guy who gets no positive comment from rock is matt, instead rock goes to town roasting him in his fourth heart event out of envy for a completely imaginary situation and argues that he’s worth a hundred matthew’s (source?). he also likes to go into the already crowded farmhouse at night on market days and make it even more cramped, but he usually leaves right before matt gets home

finally rock has what i can only describe as a really odd one-sided crush on gordy!! he meanders into gordy’s trailer at 12:45 AM (AM) every market day and loudly, obliviously asks why there’s so much “trash” everywhere (you’re the trash, rock!!!!!!). thankfully rock is quite literally beneath gordy’s notice, however this seems to make rock sad and he tries to come up with wacky stunts to get gordy’s attention like drawing on gordy’s face and… holding his breath? (maybe, i dunno WHERE that dialogue triggers). he has a line celebrating gordy finally noticing him, i’m not sure what causes it though (for his part, gordy has no lines referencing rock)

finally, if you show rock your kid he will tease them by bragging that he was waaaay cuter at their age… but ONLY if it’s a bachelor’s child. rock your complex is so obvious that it’s more of a simple

in summary,

rock seems to think highly of each of the guys (except matt), unfortunately this manifests in him making really odd attempts to barge into their houses at strange hours and by trying to assert dominance in annoying ways. thankfully no one really notices anything he does (except matt)

matt doesn’t generally say nice things about anyone except cecilia (which makes the nice things he says, like about nina, more meaningful…) so unsurprisingly he has nothing nice to say about any of the guys, but he doesn’t have anything negative to say about gustafa. however he seems to want friends to do stuff with (he complains about how no one in the valley wants to go swimming…..hhhgg i am desperate to force rock and matt to spend time together. a friendship where you can’t stand each other but you’re the only two people who enjoy doing the same hobby so you put your differences aside and splash around in the water) like with rock no one really seems aware of matt’s existence except rock who is Extrwmely Aware to the point of knowing about matt’s crush on ceci, but unlike rock matt is not exactly jumping at the chance to go socialize with others

gustafa and gordy are friends with each other (and also both are friends with nami) and they support each others ambitions. i have no source but i’m confident that when gustafa visits gordy he’s also bringing him water and soup (he also visits daryl so i think it’s cool and fun if gustafa drops in on the local lost-in-thought creative hermits with hydration reminders and care packages)
