✨️ Who were the Bisayan deities? Let's discuss a few of them! There are a lot more deities that were not mentioned here, but you can read all about these different deities on my blog post, "The Bisayan Deities: Who were the Gods & Goddesses?" on my blog, thepinaywriter.com !
I will also be briefly discussing these deities in my first class of the year on July 19 via Zoom! To be able to participate, you must be in the Mayari Tier on my Patreon. During this first class we will also be discussing the babaylan and traditional tattooing. Classes are held monthly along with monthly book discussions for the Filipino Book & Reading Club! ✨️📚 Visit my Patreon at patreon.com/thepinaywriter for more info!
➡️ Do you know any of these deities? Who is your favorite?

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE REALIZATION ABOUT MY OCS ...
one of them (Sumakwel) speaks a language inspired from hokkien. one of them speaks a language inspired from bisayan (Namwaren). Sumakwel has loved Namwaren from day one whilst Namwaren will never. ever. ever. love him back (like that)
the hokkien words for "I love you" is literally one letter away from the bisaya words for "there is nothing" and I (claws hands down my face) kms kms kms kms kms kms kms kms, in a pool of my own undoing and the fact that no one Knows about my ocs other than Me

Every day praising an indigenous character Day 43-
Sucy Manbavaran from Little Witch Academia
Sucy Manbavaran (スーシィ・マンババラン Sūshī Manbabaran?) is one of the main protagonists of Little Witch Academia. She is a young witch from Southeast Asia.
Her first name, "Sucy", can mean "holy" in Malay and Indonesian, and may also be derived from "Susi" in Filipino, which means "key"; while her surname, "Manbavaran", is apparently derived from "Mambabarang" in Cebuano, which means "warlock/witch" and "black sorcerer/sorceress".
The Cebuano people are the indigenous people of the Philippines, Southeast Asia.
The Cebuano people (Cebuano: Mga Sugbuanon) are the largest subgroup of the larger ethnolinguistic group Visayans, who constitute the largest Filipino ethnolinguistic group in the country. They originated in the province of Cebu in the region of Central Visayas, but then later spread out to other places in the Philippines, such as Siquijor, Bohol, Negros Oriental, southwestern Leyte, western Samar, Masbate, and large parts of Mindanao.
Visayans or Bisayans are the indigenous people of the Visayan Islands. They speak many languages, of which the largest in terms of number of speakers today is Cebuano. According to Ethnologue there are 25 Bisayan language, although at least one (Tausug) is spoken by a group considered to be outside the Visayan culture area.
Visayans (Visayan: mga Bisaya; local pronunciation: [bisaˈjaʔ]) or Visayan people are a Philippine ethnolinguistic family group or metaethnicity native to the Visayas, the southernmost islands of Luzon and a significant portion of Mindanao.

If you go to the Gold Museum in Ayala, you’ll notice how much of the treasures come from the Visayas or precolonial Bisayan kingdoms in Mindanao. We imagine this is only a small sliver of what brilliant gold was once held in the abundant rivers & waters of the islands. Although we can commiserate together about the loss, we treasure what does remain: the richness of our islander languages preserving our living cultures! ⭐️ We’re starting Bisayan Language Immersions next week, from August 31 - November 6, 2023 ➡️ Learn with us! bababisaya.com

Ok now do MK1 KUNG LAO YOU WERENT FINISHED WITH ME YET! I feel like..there’s this one thingy I’ll tell you in thingy but I think you would understand it
BACK TO THE COAL MINES FOR ME...
Tumblr media
Sexuality Headcanon: I HC him as also Bi, but he strongly prefers men, to the point where he probably thought he was gay for a long time. Bro didn't have a gay awakening, he had a Bi one. (Like me fr.) Gender Headcanon: CIS!! But he still uses He/They and sometimes even She. I think he finds pronouns to be a silly thing, but he's content with what he has. He wouldn't be offended if someone calls him pretty, or beautiful or typically 'feminine' compliments. He's cis here in my head, because Liu Kang wanted his bff to be able to be happy and not have to experience the crippling dysphoria he watched him struggle with. He's got a funny thing with gender, definitely sees himself as a man, but doesn't mind if other people see him differently. That strong kinda self-confidence that just genuinely makes him happy in his body regardless of what other people think. A ship I have with said character: I LIKE HANLAO HELP ME. I also Love Railao. Anything where he can be happy but also has that nice bit of angst in it... A BROTP I have with said character: OKAY HEAR ME OUT. LET ME COOK. KUNG LAO AND TOMAS. THEIR INTERACTIONS ARE SO BROCODED I LOVE THEM AAAUUGGGGHH melts away into a pile of sand. A NOTP I have with said character: Exploding the pancakes of people who ship him with Liu Kang /J /J /J I am joking i promise. I just personally don't like the ship. A random headcanon: Half-Filipino on his dads side, but never knew either of his parents. From the Cagayan De Oro area, he can speak Mandarin, Bisayan, and Standard Tagalog. This is part was inspired by the fact he just seems like a Chismoso and also by the fact in Mortal Kombat: Conquest, his actor was Paolo Montalban, a filipino man.
Tumblr media
General Opinion over said character: AAAAUUGGH I WANT TO PICK HIM UP AND SHAKE HIM LIKE A SNOWGLOBE PLEASEEE UGHHH I LOVE HIM. I don't relate to him as much as MK11 Lao but LORD IS HE PRETTY AND LORD AM I A FAN. He's absolutely my favorite in MK1, followed by Quan Chi, and Rain. Honestly, I welcome all gender hcs for this goober. Trans, genderfluid, agender, bigender. I can see all of them fitting. Also Homophobia and transphobia don't exist in the MK1 universe Liu Kang eradicated it sorry I don't make the rules.

[ HERE ]  you’ll find #155 gifs of the actor, Evan Mock, from his role in the tv show, Girl Gossip (s2ep01-05). This gif pack was created as a gift for @malboraslihan as part of the 2022 RPH Server Gift Exchange. I hope that you enjoy these and find them useful.
You can find my rules here.  Suffice it to say that I ask that the time I spent making these be respected and that the fc himself be respected. Please note that Evan is Filipino specifically bisayan, so cast accordingly. In terms of triggers, this pack contains gifs that kissing, alcohol, food, flashing gifs, and (semi) nudity. In addition, some gifs feature the actors Emily Alyn Lind and Thomas Doherty. If you found  these gifs to be helpful, please like and/or reblog this post. Enjoy!

Okay so I'm loving Earthspark but I have one nitpick: Alex grew up in Bohol. Bohol is in the Visayas, so he should say that 'Lolo' is a Bisaya word, not a Tagalog one.
Like, come on, it's a simple google search! Filipino rep is already so small and mostly focuses on Tagalog speakers. As a Bisayan with family FROM Bohol it's a shame to see the writers drop the ball on this one.

This is the first comic for this August's celebration, the Month of Language here in the Philippines. For those who asked, What are "Ayo", "Ayo-ayo", and "maayo" here on my comic page? It does not come from the slang word, AYO in social media, which means "Hey You!" or "What's Up?", or a slang expression to greet someone or to get attention to someone, "Ayo?" - holup. "Ayo", "Ayo-ayo", and "maayo" have different usages in constructing sentences in some Bisayan languages, including our Cebuano language. I will explain.
1. In some Bisayan languages, "ayo" can mean "good" or be used as a "polite knock-knock greeting", similar to "tao po" in Tagalog. It is a way of acknowledging someone when entering their house, or in this case, a sari-sari store. NOTE: 'Maayo' and 'ayo' are the same words. "We Bisayans love to take shortcuts hehehe" (Here, in the comic, 'Ayo' is pronounced as in 'apple', not 'ancient'; the letter o is pronounced like 'job', not like 'zone'). NOTE AGAIN: 'Ayo' [á.yu.] can also mean 'fix'.
2. "Ayo-ayo" or ayoayo here means "take care" (AMPING will be another word for that). It does not mean knock-knock or good-good (like halo-halo), although the word "ayo-ayo," the "ayo" originated from "ayo" meaning "good." NOTE: Ayo-ayo can also mean treating someone nice. Another term/sentence for ayo-ayo is "Pagayoayo ra dinha!", "Wish you a good day/health!" In this scenario, despite the guy getting annoyed, he still wishes the sari-sari store owner a good day/health.
3. "Maayo" [ma.á.yu.] here means "that's good!", "good" or "excellent", which is a derivative of 'ayo' - 'good'.
4. Hay [hái.] means *sigh.

like my indian friend can talk about not knowing urdu with my hmong friend who doesn’t know hmong but im not allowed to join in and talk about not knowing bisayan because my skin is white. they all take a “poc pic” at homecoming but im delegated to behind the camera. they talk about erasure and yet actively participate in it. slowly losing my mind and yet i can’t talk about it because that would be “speaking over poc voices” fuck all the way off actually because the cognitive dissonance surrounding my ethnic identity was half the reason i tried to kill myself in middle school. let’s actually have meaningful conversations about culture and ethnicity instead of continuing to reduce people to a binary

I started watching Vtubers, and in what I assume is a common urge among viewers, started designing an original model concept
(I’m also starting to learn some rigging)
Tumblr media
My goal is a fairly androgynous figure featuring clothing inspiration from pre-colonial filipino/bisayan fashion (part of my ancestry) and lore concepts built around binary star systems (because they’re cool)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it’s going pretty well and I’m excited and proud of it so far
