Birdo Has Sisters

So when investigating the claims of the Mario Wiki about the plot of BS Super Mario USA the sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2 USA I was lead to a source for which contains the plot or BSMUSA and even dialogue. This is from Ameba's Satellaview Library's BS Super Mario USA Power Challenge page. It mentioned things like the Power of the Stars a phrase that sticks out and I wonder Mario Party 5 at all tried to make a connection to this by have the Star Spirits be the ones that watch over the Dream Depot. It also establishes this that Wart and his cronies are able to hop from dream to dream which is similar to what we see Bowser do in Mario Party 5.

But what is most interesting is this little detail. 『スーパーマリオUSA』でマリオたちが平和を取り戻したサブコンに 再びマムー軍団がやってきた。 相手は、ピンクキャサリン、レッドキャサリン、グリーンキャサリン の三姉妹。三人揃って、その名も「スーパーキャサリンズ！」 その他にもたくさんの強敵が！！ 手始めに、ドン・チュルゲが攻撃を仕掛けてくる。

"The Mamu army has come to Sub-Con, where Mario and friends restored peace in 'Super Mario USA' . Their opponents are the three sisters Pink Catherine, Red Catherine, and Green Catherine. Together, the three are known as the 'Super Catherines!'" Simple Google Translate also, Catherine is Birdo's Japanese name. Many fans have questioned who these other Birdos are from this game, and many of us have assumed they were just other Birdos like we see in the sports and karting games. But turns out this game reveals to us that the Red and Green Birdos of this game are the sisters of the main Pink Birdo.

Gaming with the sea three and hooklings

So after they're all off the island and have time to spare Harry's family (both blood and found) will game a lot together

With his sisters it can... get quite violent, even if they play "kid friendly" games like Mario party

However, whenever they play Mario related games they all pick the same characters

Harriet= Rosalina (Wanted to be the oldest and she's the coolest) Harry= Daisy (Didn't want to be left out, plus he thinks Daisy is cool) CJ= Peach (Looks the most like her minus the blue eyes, also Harriet claimed Rosalina before she had the chance to use her)

They usually end up screaming at each other so loud that their parents have to threaten to shut off the power

James suggested making their family a videogame free household but Morgie thought that was going too far

They sometimes play minecraft together which usually ends with them going exploring underwater temples since well, they're pirates

When Harry plays with his friends however it's a lot calmer, mostly because neither he or Uma want to freak Gil out by getting too mad

They also always pick the same characters, Harry is still Daisy while Uma picks the blue Birdo and Gil is yoshi

They did try to play overcooked once, that ended very badly and they decided that game is now banned

When the sea three plays minecraft Uma loves exploring underwater temples, Gil has a bunch of animals and he's named all of them and Harry is the fighter whenever they need him

If he isn't fighting he's working on building a model of his father's ship in the game

Here's a probably bizarre one

Are you into Table Top RPGs? And if so what do you think a Kirby themed one would look like? In just broad strokes at least, not asking you to get in depth with all the numbers or something

I'm trying to actually make one along with a few friends of mine as a "little" group project, we're throwing out ideas, figuring stuff out and what not. Turns out making a proper TTRPG is difficult and requires a lot of thought.

I used to be! In my family, playing D&D (2nd edition!!) was like watching sports for other families! I dropped out of the hobby sometime in my teens, as I started to struggle more with roleplaying ^^; and though I've shown interest in the occasional system and even played in a handful of one-shots, a lot of my knowledge comes from overhearing stories from my siblings, who are still into it!

When I brought this concept up to my sister briefly, she mentioned something (and maybe it was spun off something legendary blogger Prokopetz had said) about trying to "twist" D&D into a system for telling stories it just wasn't keyed to tell! That you CAN do that, sure, but maybe it's not the most efficient way...?

Soooo...

...In that sense two TTRPGs that come to mind when I think about alternate ways you could do a Kirby game other than just "explore dungeon and kill monsters!" (...Note that these might not be perfect fits either, they're just ones I've heard about and caught my interest!)

Magica Logia, a Japanese-only RPG (sorry...! ^^;;) that was really popular on NicoDouga/NicoVideo that is mostly based around playing these magicians with true forms (O~ooh, Soul Forms, you say?) who go around solving magical incidents!

While there IS combat, most of it is about learning what is even going wrong and using your skills (which are more like "concepts" and all HIGHLY interpretable) to detect just WHO has been affected through roleplay scenes that play out in a turn based structure!

It was REALLY popular to do long videos of characters from various games and anime playing versions of themselves via Magica Logia and so I often think that it suits a variety of more story-based settings! (Like, a huge focus on the story of a session is finding out who has been POSSESSED by the evil forces this time and I hope you can see my vision for how well that would work for Kirby!)

Another that I'm slightly less familiar with but I've always wanted to learn more about is Ryuutama, which, to quote the main website, describes itself as "Miyazaki's Oregon Trail?!" XD

A huge focus of the game seems to be around "regular" seeming characters going to new places because they're filled with wanderlust (and Kirby IS a wanderer!) and managing the resources to get there! (How much food you have at any given time feels like it would be a natural fit forany Kirby TTRPG) 

I also like that the journey and the places you go seem to be decided on by the group as a whole, with everyone contributing something! It reminds me very much of how magical various places in Pop Star (or the rest of the Kirby-verse galaxy) can be! And I think that kind of inventiveness would be wonderful.

Do you really want Kirby and the gang to explore a re~gular old cave? If it's going to feel like Kirby, the cave ought to have... Oh, crystal stalagmites in the shape of ice cream! Or that reflect your image like funhouse mirrors! Or the ceiling is covered with moss that acts like glow-in-the-dark bedroom stars!

...Again, I haven't seen this one played before like I have with the other one so I'm mostly going off concepts I find appealing from the product page! It does make you think though!

As for ideas of my own, I'm split when it comes to character creation. Either everyone should be allowed to make their own "Kirby"/Puffball and you KEEP it to puffballs, or you pass on playing Kirby and let people choose from a variety of commonly returning ally races (Poppy, Simirror, Birdo, Dee, Chilly, Joe, etc...) The reason I would suggest going either all puffs or all non-puffs is because even though my ideal Kirby TTRPG is not amazingly battle heavy, I still think that would really cut down on any questions of POWER SCALING (my beloathed... :shiver:)

I think that creativity in the interpretation of game mechanics should be emphasized, and that smaller numbered dice would be better (D4s or D6s, a D10 at most??)

I can see stats being more akin to MOODS rather than like, physical prowess and how fast you are/magic potential etc? After all, Kirby is strong enough to tackle on otherworldly horrors...but the comics often depict him as being unable to when he is, say, [Tired] or [Hungry] so having to balance your player character's ~total health~ as opposed to just their HP might make things feel more Kirby-esque, as opposed to just a Kirby-themed D&D reskin! (Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's where one's interest lies!)

Another thing from Ryuutama that I liked the sound of was each character having a key [Personal Item] that is important to them! Maybe it's not EVEN magical, maybe it's just...emotionally significant?! Maybe part of the goal of story creation can be discovering what ties these characters together through an exploration of their items! (Everyone declares theirs to the game master and the game master builds the adventure around that?)

Anyway, I think I've made my preferences for a "non-standard" style TTRPG here clear! Sorry if that wasn't your desired direction...!

I don't know how much progress you've made in the week it took me to get to this one, but I would love to hear more if you think you've narrowed in on your idea! SOME VIVIAN & BIRDO HEADCANONS (29/07/2024 UPDATE)

Vivian previous name was Vinnie. Unlike the censored version of the 2nd Paper Mario here she is a MtF. She was beaten and insulted by her sisters and the Shadow Queen about her gender identity. One day, she met a MagicKoopa who gave her the possibility to become what she ever wanted.

After the transition, she realized that the problem wasn't her, were her "family" who don't respect her choices of self expression and changing her gender was a loss of time and money. She was still Vinnie but with a feminine body and name.

Then she met Birdo, a male dinosaur who dressed in a strange way but he seemed to be comfortable in his skin and in this kind of behaviour.

So she joined him and they created a pair called Pink Kink. Vivian is still shy about showing herself to others meanwhile Birdo is more extrovert.

Vivian seems to have a crush on Mario, the Mushroom Kingdom's Hero meanwhile Birdo had a long romantic relationship with Popple. He broke up with him because he stole some money and objects from him to resell them at the Black Bean Market (?). Now he seems interests in Yoshi (the green one) and sometimes flirts with him.

• Vivian is Transfem (Male to Female) and Heteroromantic but after regreted transition she considers no binary (She/They). She has 23 years old in human ages.

• Birdo is a Dragqueen and Homoromantic. He has 30 years old.

• They work as actors and sponsorshippers of Mushroom Kingdom's Theater and a clothing market.

Yosirdo pregnancy (headcanons, history and facts)

After preg Boellen, I have now Yosirdo preg here✨💕

I decided to make a cover for this post because I love reading and these two 💞🫂

In addition to yosirdo, we will have mareach and luaisy mentioned here on fankid.

Some headcanons about them pregnancy:

-> In most of the blogs I follow, the pregs of Mario couples, the characters not married yet, I really like their aus, but in my head I like my characters to already be married and another detail my head says "YOSHI AND BIRDO WILL BE THE FIRST TO HAVE A BABY!!"

-> They were both already hoping to have a child, but they were worried because Birdo was trans and couldn't get pregnant, so Yoshi was already suggesting adopting a surrogate egg (It's like a surrogate mother).

Yoshiko, my OC, who is Yoshi's older sister, noticed that Yoshi was having a lot of nausea and vomiting. She didn't care much at first, but one day he felt a strange pain and had to go to the hospital. There they discovered that he was producing an egg with a child! (In my headcanon, Koopas and Yoshis don't get pregnant, they produce an egg and then release the egg and then the child is born.)

Yoshi and Birdo were very happy, because their dreams were coming true, but soon a concern arose between them about what their son would call them, since Yoshi was the one who laid the egg and not Birdo, the two talked and decided that they would tell their son when he became a teenager. {I imagine that their son, when he was a teenager, had a pansexual attack and went to tell them and they revealed that they were t4t and they all hugged each other in the end crying 🥺}

-> Besides Yoshi and Birdo, the Mario brothers, Yoshi's parents, Yoshiko, Birdo's father and Rosalina were very happy with the news (in my AU, Mario, Luigi, Yoshiko and Rosalina are Yosirdo's wedding godparents), Yoshiko said she was going to spoil Yoshi's son, his parents were very excited about their son and grandson, they still remembered how Yoshi took care of and helped Baby Mario on Yoshi's island.

-> Birdo soon spends more time with the egg, making sure it is safe, while Yoshi sets up the baby's room. She usually talks to the baby even though she knows he doesn't respond, Yoshi thinks it's really sweet of her to be a mother, they want the best for their son.

-> During the night they talk about whether the baby would be a boy or a girl and suggest names, Birdo suggests many random names and Yoshi doesn't agree, he says it has to be a cool name.

-> While the baby was in the egg, Mario and Luigi sing to him songs that their mother sang to them when they were babies, this would be a bit of my AU Musical brothers. (and I also saw a parenting class on YouTube about until what week a baby can listen to music during pregnancy)

-> As Yoshi was a partner of the Mario brothers, he had to go on some adventures, so sometimes he took the egg to look after, I imagine him using those baby bags that he puts on his lap (I don't know the name of that) with the egg and after the baby.

-> Exactly the Yoshis (and the Koopas) don't discover the gender before the baby is born, they only discover it when it is born, so there is no baby shower unfortunately (and this worried Yoshi's friends since half of them were human) but Birdo had the intuition that it would be a boy and guess what she was right!

-> A baby boy is born, Yoshi and Birdo cry when they see their son for the first time, finally their dream has come true > (I don't have a name for it yet 😔)

-> When Yoshiko sees her nephew for the first time, she faints from so much cuteness, she remembers when Yoshi was born, she even says "it looks like you were born again Yoshi" and he is like after that comment

-> (Mario and Luigi were already kings, that is, Boellen's twins had already been born, they weren't used to being spoiled by their wives, but they bought several gifts for Yoshi's son, they didn't know what color his clothes would be , so they bought them in different colors, besides, Yoshi's son loves all the colors!)

-> Yoshi's son knows how to speak the Yoshi language and the English that the Mario brothers speak.

so the OCs i mainly refer to on this blog are my hero’s call au characters so, tragically, mario kart would not exist in their world :( BUT this is such a funny question that i’m answering it anyway. modern au time bitch. answers below the cut bc damn that’s a lot of guys

going with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe here because that was what first came up when i googled Mario Kart :)

Hero: Luigi. god bless this man he does not know anything about the Mario franchise outside of the first few Mario games. he chose Luigi over Mario because he likes green more than red. (plus he asked Spirit if that was a good choice and she said he was fine so)

Loft: Yoshi. he likes the look of him and he always felt really bad for dropping him into the abyss when playing Mario as a kid so this is a sort of apology

Minish: Toad. they can do a perfect impression of Toad and is not afraid to use it to terrify people.

Prism: either Dry Bowser or Princess Daisy. listen okay this guy is an elite gamer and also a huge fucking nerd, so obviously he’s crunched the numbers; he also really likes Game Theory and watched that one video where MatPat claimed that Dry Bowser (and a specific kart build that i don’t remember) was the fastest. bUt he’s also kind and hates absolutely obliterating his friends every single time, so he tones it down and chooses Princess Daisy (her specifically because his fiancée, Zelda, loves Daisy. if it weren’t for her he’d be Villager Male.)

Mask: Shy Guy. little guy with mask 🤝 little guy with mask.

Oracle: Bowser. this bitch is here to win, but, unlike Prism, he doesn’t have the time to crunch the numbers. so he just.. googled what the best build is and goes with that

Blue: Bowser. it’s the exact same story as Oracle: she’s here to fucking win. bUt she isn’t an absolute loser and so just quickly googles who the best is and goes with it. tragically, she’s horrible at video games and loses almost every single time.

Vio: King Boo. she is a huge fuckin nerd, but just not in the video game way. she has no damn clue who to choose, and ends up picking King Boo because ghosts are fun, and definitely not because Shadow mained King Boo. definitely not that at all—

Wind: Inkling Girl. this guy is pretty good at all games, with the single exception of racing games. so, when it comes to Mario Kart, he relies on the wisdom of his little sister, Aryll, who consistently mops the floor with him whenever they play. she mains Inkling Girl, and he hopes and prays that that’ll let him at least not come in at dead last.

Spirit: Dry Bowser and Princess Peach. yet another person who’s a complete and utter nerd. i’ve mentioned this before, but Spirit loves optimization. she’s an engineer, she’s gonna figure out the best combinations and she’s gonna figure them out fast. but, just like Prism, she’s actually nice and doesn’t want to straight up obliterate everyone she plays with, so Princess Peach. (ngl i was tempted to say Birdo again because trans rep but Spirit is such a Princess Peach girlie.)

Ages: Mario. while Ages is also a huge strategy guy, he’s not really a fan of competitive games. give him a pokémon game and he’ll do fantastic, but a racing game?? ehh…. truth be told, he mostly plays story driven games, so he’s very lost in a competitive setting. same story as Hero, really, lmao. they both go for the ole reliables.

Wild: Toad. she saw a little dude with a fat ass mushroom hat and immediately decided to main him. oh and he can also do a perfect impression of Toad. do not leave them and Minish in the same room together or else they will both lose their voices from talking like Toad for hours.

Champion: Wendy O. Koopa. this man(?) is an enigma, no one knows why. he probably doesn’t either.

Rhythm: Waluigi. he’s a middle school band kid for fuck’s sake, of course he’s gonna choose fucking Waluigi.

Catch-up wave again- Recut 2/CS Recut (full OCs)

Catch-up wave 2- Recut 2/CS Recut, Part 1

Next up on the catch-up wave list is character sprites for the fantopic recut of the Wii U game with the Paper Mario name, Color Splash. Unlike StSt Recut, which was and still is seen by others as superior to the actual game, CS Recut was just as divisive as its own source material for various reasons (the number and use of past characters, the designs of some newer and even past ones, some added story elements).

While I am proud of what I did with Recut 2 or rather what Recut 2 did with the source material (to the point that the only way I can talk about CS is if it’s the recut, not the original- first time I’ve admitted this publicly, by the way), I also see where the criticism is coming from. This feedback has been taken into account for future fantopics, Mario Story Fruit Shake and Origami King Retold. That said, even those down the middle have tauted certain characters and elements as a good change.

Enough of that, though- here’s some reposted characters, new and redesigned, from CS Recut. Due to how different CS Recut is from the original despite using the same base locations and plot, this will be in two further subwaves- one for the completely new characters, and the other for those who mostly take up the same roles of generic or near-generic and nameless Toads.

THE MEMPHAWKS- A tough bird species, the Memphawks are both tough and wise. Rumors say their strongest member is a champion in the faraway Glitz Pit.

The Memphawks replace around 1/4th-1/5th of the generic Toads, with both unique and crowd-filler characters.

Had Rawk Hawk been used for a specific role in a previous original story, it’s entirely possible these roles would have been filled by a Madame Flurrie-based species instead.

THE VELLBEX- A goat species, the Vellbex are very rare, even in their homeland of Prism Island. Nearly 1/5th of the generic Toads are replaced with Vellbex, most of them unique.

I made this species both to show a more subtle way of including paper jokes (all of which were removed from CS Recut). The Vellbex were also a way to compromise with StSt fans, via making a species based on the memetic Goat thing from the preceding game.

EDWIN- A dashing young Slurple, Edwin’s big on the coinage and suckage power. Though formerly allied with the Musketeers, a misunderstanding due to joining Mario leads to a last conflict of interest.

Edwin takes up part of Justice Toad’s role (the part in Cherry Lake’s first visit), but becomes entirely his own character as the story goes on, though his Musketeer inspiration was D’Artagan...the human swordwielder, not the slug dog. In addition, he takes a large number (though not all) of Huey’s more meanspirited comments and money-focused nature so Huey makes a better first impression while also providing meaningful inner party conflict between more than just two characters.

LOUIS- One of Mario’s biggest fans, Louis the Memphawk knows all about the Great Gonzales, and wishes to help him on Prism Island. Louis himself has no counterpart in the original game. He and his father also reference a certain behind-the-scenes aspect of Mario, one that has become more important with a certain movie’s trailer.

MARIRANA DEEPS- The more carefree of the Deeps Sisters, Marirana doesn’t believe in limits (and neither should you). However, a degenerating relationship with her sister and the appearance of Mario’s friends sway Marirana to travel with them, if only to understand the next step for her to take.

This is the v2 design of Marirana that was used for the 2018 posting of the story. A newer redesign, seen below, was made years later for TOK Retold.

SUEBELLE DEEPS- The sourer of the Deeps Sisters, Suebelle is miffed at Marirana about something, leading her to leave and join with Birdo instead.

As with Marirana, this is the v2 design for Suebelle, with a v3 design made for TOK Retold.

On Birdo's Gender

Heads up this post will quote manuals and website descriptions and by no means supports the messed up language in it. It was wrong then and it is wrong now, this post is purely for educational purposes. Also, this is meant to be a useful tool to use against people who try to use this Pink Dinosaur to be losers all while clearing up any actual confusion.

So... appearing first in Super Mario Bros. 2 USA, Birdo first gets the following description in the manual. "He thinks he is a girl and he spits eggs from his mouth. He'd rather be called 'Birdetta.'" But it is a bit different in the Japanese version than in the localization. "Katherine, thinks they are a girl and spits eggs from their mouth. Calling them Kathy puts them in a good mood." So while the Japanese manual isn't as bad it is still not great. The reason for this Japan isn't the kindest to trans people. Many people themselves in Japan will use pejoratives to refer trans people, mislabel them, make "jokes" at their expense, and yes misgender them. Look no further than that one Metroid developer interview where a developer called Samus Aran a newhalf as a "joke." This information provides some context on why Birdo is treated the way she is not just in the West but in Japan itself. Btw as a side note on this idea of "jokes' this also might be the reason the Mario series uses Luigi wearing Peach's dress as a joke so often. To the point they made this description for Luigi which can be interpreted as implying some things about Luigi. "When Toadette finds one of these, she can transform into the super-powered Peachette. (Sorry Luigi-only Toadette can use this item!)" Note, the Luigi thing is a maybe and not guaranteed, this is just speculation. That aside, let's move on.

Shows up in a Japanese commercial where she has a deeper voice, which is points to the obvious fact that she is intended to be trans. Side note, trans women can have both deep and high pitched voices, and thus this depiction of Birdo can go either way here.

Next up is a description of from the Double Dash Japanese Website. 「ヨッシーの彼女に見えて実は彼氏!?」 "Birdo appears to be Yoshi's girlfriend, but is actually his boyfriend!?" This is some more of that yikes moments when it comes to Birdo and how they are treated.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Popple appears to almost misgender Birdo but ends up not doing so. This seems to be a decent depiction of her. Now some people believe she is being deadnamed, here, however Birdie seems to be just a pet name she likes being called.

So at this point people on this topic typically bring but the next thing and call it a day, but I have more here to bring up. So some people bring up Birdo's Brawl description, but it is irrelevant to this topic because Smash Bros. is not canon.

Next up Birdo's BS Super Mario USA depiction. As mentioned in a previous post, Birdo has sisters. This also makes some decent treatment of her and her sisters. In addition the Super Birdos are voiced by Jun Donna, Rika and Akemi which are all trans women if I am correct. If I made a mistake at all here let me know. In addition they all have deep voices. Now Birdo in Paper Mario: Sticker Star Birdo sings a song. “Heart of a woman, heart of a man… Both can know of love's grace…” This one is a bit iffy, it might be intended to be something intended to be used to mistreat Birdo, or it might not be and is just meant to refer to her being trans. Side note, in Paper Mario: Color Splash Birdo sings a song that references Doki Doki Panic and her relationship with Yoshi. In addition her being a performer in this game is a follow-up to what she said she would do in Superstar Saga.

Next up is Birdo's descriptions in various games. Games like Super Mario RPG, Mario Superstar Baseball, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart Double Dash, and Mario Party 9 all use the correct pronouns for Birdo. Now I've heard it claimed Super Mario Party does the same but I don't have access to it, and it is also claimed in the UK version it misgenders her. It also has been claimed that in the Japanese versions she is also misgendered but again I don't have access to those to check them. But even if the Japanese did say that, it would be better to abide by the US localization's usage of Birdo's pronoun since she is intended to be a trans woman.

Finally in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Birdo is featured on the sponsor Women Of Racing Organization thus acknowledged her as what she is. Now on Birdo spitting out eggs alongside the rest of her species doing the same. It is never stated anywhere whether or not the Birdos have sexes, and they obviously don't have any spectrum sexual dimorphism as most Mario characters don't So it is probably safe to say Birdos either are sexless, or if they do have a sex then like Yoshies all Birdos can make eggs.

- tried to hole punch a snifit or two on his way down to the temple of shrooms but he found they have absolutely zero sense of rhythm

- his demeanour is a mix between a disco lover and a b list horror movie monster and he’s well aware of this

- actually went out of his way to go talk to the other members of the legion of stationery! he’s the one who views them the most as a group

- him and scissors get along thanks to tricks that are usually taboo and wanting to keep things clean (plus their streamers are by far the closest, so tape sometimes sneaks off to see scissors)

- this is why tapes involvement in the chapter is very little, because he’s off chatting with the other members most of the time

I can see Dani growing up with Reddie and being FIERCELY protective of them?? Like NOBODY better say a negative thing(especially about Eddie’s missing arm) because she is a mix of both her dads and she will ROAST the person to their DOOM

“Hey, Danno!” Richie calls up the stairs, shoving his feet into his boots. He stomps his heels to get them down into the bottom of the shoes. “You wanna come for a walk with me?”

Richie hears his daughter’s feet hit the floor upstairs before she comes flying halfway down the steps. Dani grips the railing, half-hanging over the bannister.

“Where’re you going?” Dani asks.

“Gonna go pick up your dad and your sisters from the grocery store,” Richie tells her. “They need our help with the bags.”

“Should we bring the car?” Dani acts, hopping down the last few steps. Richie stops and holds his arms out, and she jumps from the third step, letting him catch her and swing her around to set her on her feet near the door.

“Your dad said it’s only a couple of things,” Richie says, “and it’s a nice day out. If you’re not feeling up to walking, though, we can drive, I don’t mind taking the car. Maybe I’ll even let you drive.”

Dani’s head snaps up from where she’s crouched on the floor, shoving her sneakers on. “Really?”

“Nah,” Richie replies. Dani frowns at him. “Maybe in seven or eight years.”

“Dad.”

“Dan,” he says back. “Up for a walk or wanna drive?”

“If you won’t let me drive,” she says, and he laughs, “then we can just walk.”

“Then we are walkin’,” Richie tells her.

For all her commentary and jokes, she still slips her hand into Richie’s when they head out the door. He swings their hands together before, halfway to the store, he kneels down and lets her climb up onto his shoulders. There’s not much more time he’ll be able to do things like this, he knows, so he tries to take the opportunity whenever he can. Even though she digs her hands into his hair and grabs on tight to keep her grip on him.

“Whoa, hey,” Richie says up to her. “We can’t all have your six feet of hair, kiddo. You lucked out getting your dad’s hair, but if you yank mine out, I’m gonna look like Captain Picard.”

“Sorry,” Dani says. She wraps her fingers up in his jacket collar instead, and he holds on tight to her ankles to make sure she’s not going to slide off or go anywhere.

“See anything good up there?” Richie asks. Dani hums, kicking her heels lightly back into his chest. “Airplanes, maybe?”

“I can see birds,” she exclaims, and he laughs, squeezing her around the shin. Her hands leave his collar; when he cranes his head to look up at her, he sees her arms spread. She grins down at him and demands, “What? I’m a bird.”

“Alright, alright, so you’re a bird,” Richie agrees. He looks back to the path ahead and asks, “What sort of a bird?”

There’s another beat where she thinks about her answer before she decides, “A raven.”

“Happy Halloween,” Richie tells her. “You are your father’s daughter.”

“Which one?” she asks.

“Yes,” Richie says, and she laughs, ducking down to wrap her arms around his head. “Hey, hey, I can’t see a thing, birdo—”

“Sorry!” she exclaims, releasing him. She starts to say something else before she stops herself. One hand flies forward; Richie can see it pointing over his head. “There’s Dad!”

“So there is,” Richie says. He can see the small dots in the distance that they both recognize as Dani’s two younger sisters and Eddie, right outside the grocery store with a cart. There’s someone beside them, too, Richie realizes, someone speaking to Eddie. The closer they get, the more he realizes it is not a pleasant conversation they’re having.

“What’s going on?” Dani asks. “Why is Daddy talking to that guy?”

“That’s a good question, Danno,” Richie says. He’s trying to sound calmer than he feels, but, truth is, he’s already a little nervous. Eddie is not a fan of confrontation, and if anybody interacts with him while he’s got any of the kids, he tends to avoid even raising his voice.

“Should we do something?” Dani asks.

“Why don’t we scope it out?” Richie replies. By the time they’re close enough to be within talking distance of Eddie, he can tell his conversation is ramping up into an argument.

Richie picks up speed until he’s power-walking. Lila and Blair see him, recognize him; Eddie takes note of him a moment later, seeing him over the shoulder of the man he’s arguing with. His face looks concerned, brow furrowed and upset. It makes Richie speed up until he’s right in between them.

“Hey, howdy,” Richie interjects, ducking into the conversation, Dani still perched on his shoulders. “Everything alright here?”

“I was just offering to help,” the guy says. “This idiot’s getting all worked up, and his stupid kids—”

“Oh, whoa, hey now,” Richie cuts him off, feeling a flash of anger lick up his spine. Eddie’s face has gone all red, which doesn’t surprise him. Richie makes himself laugh, stepping in between the guy and Eddie. “I’m sure it’s just a misunderstanding, so why don’t we just all head on home?”

“Sounds wonderful,” Eddie says with an edge. The bite in his voice makes Richie’s skin crawl, and he just wants to get them out of there, to remove that bite.

“I just offered to help,” the guy repeats. “And all he did was bitch—”

“Hey,” Richie snaps. “Do not talk about him like that.” He turns to Eddie and says, “Eds, grab the girls and hand me the bags, let’s go.”

The man doesn’t say anything while Richie takes Dani down off his shoulders, trying to stop his hands from shaking. He accepts the bags that Eddie passes to him; Dani takes hers, too, eyeballing the guy the entire time without looking away. The guy looks down at her, then back up to Eddie, frowning.

“I should’ve known that someone like you would—”

“They said stop,” Dani cuts him off. Richie doesn’t have a hand free, but Eddie does, and he puts it on her shoulder instantly. Richie can see him digging his fingers in, holding her tight in place. “What makes you think we want your help anyways? Daddy doesn’t need your help, and he doesn’t want your help.”

“You watch your mouth,” the guy tells her.

“You watch yours,” Dani snaps back, before Richie or Eddie can say anything. “I don’t want your help, I want you to go away!”

The guy looks up to Richie and starts to say, “Are you going to—”

“Go!” Dani interrupts him loudly. Lila giggles nervously, clamping her hands over her mouth. Richie knows why; at home, yelling like that or saying things like she’s said to anyone would get her a stern talking-to from one or both of them.

Here, though, and right now, as angry as he feels, he can’t imagine being upset with her for speaking her mind. When the guy looks incredulously from Dani to Eddie and to Richie again, Richie tries not to let his anger take over.

Instead, he just says, “You heard her. Leave my family alone.”

The guy’s still making a comment under his breath when he turns to leave, but Richie’s already turning and crouching down, setting his bags down on the walk outside the grocery store and tugging Dani into his arms. He holds her tight, looking up at Eddie behind her back. Eddie’s face is still pink, his eyes swollen, and his face a mask of anger, but he doesn’t say anything. He just smiles slightly, a little bit so Richie can see it, before he crouches down, too.

“You did a wonderful job, baby,” Eddie tells Dani when Richie separates from her. Eddie cups her chin in his palm and kisses her cheek before pulling away.

“Why were you letting him just be so mean?” Dani demands. “Why didn’t you just come home? Or yell at him, Daddy, he’s mean.”

“Oh, baby,” Eddie says quietly. He pulls the bags out of her hands and sets them on the walk before tugging her into his chest, wrapping his arm around her. Holding her in a tight hug, Eddie stands, keeping her secure on his hip.

“You kids think you can help me carry all this?” Richie asks Lila and Blair. They both nod eagerly, blotchy and nervous-quiet, going right to him and taking up the bags he passes over. He takes the bulk up himself, hanging off his wrists when he stands.

“Is Dani in trouble?” Blair asks. Richie nudges her with his ankle, and she pushes back at him, bags bumping into his legs.

“No, Dani’s not in trouble,” Eddie says. He looks to Richie for a brief moment as they begin their walk home together, but Richie just smiles at him. He can see how angry he is, and he knows he’s going to hear the entire rant later, the whole bottled-up thing that Eddie didn’t let himself release in front of their children.

“Daddy?” Blair asks.

“No, she’s not,” Richie agrees. “Sometimes, it’s— it’s more important to stand up for people and for what you believe in than it is to be polite.”

“Really?” Lila asks.

“Absolutely, kiddo,” Richie says.

“I’m sorry,” Dani says, from Eddie’s hold. She lifts her head up off his shoulder and adds, “But he was just being so mean and I thought that— Ugh, I don’t know, he just—” She motions wildly, looking from Richie to Eddie before she exclaims, “I just didn’t want to listen to it! You shouldn’t have to, either. You should just leave when that happens.”

“Oh, honey, you’re right,” Eddie says. “I was trying to be calm with him but it wasn’t helping things much, was it?”

“Well, you know, there’s value in being respectful,” Richie comments. He doesn’t want Eddie to just be wrong. Eddie smiles over at him, face flushed, and makes a face that reads to Richie as, eh. “And maybe there’s also value in telling people they’re being snot-nosed weasels when they’re being snot-nosed weasels.”

Dani laughs, turning to throw her arms around Eddie’s neck and hold on tight to him. He still holds her tight in his right arm; with the end of his left, he nudges her face towards him, then kisses her temple. Richie’s anger is still just as bright in his chest as he imagines it is in Eddie’s, and he’ll rant just as much as Eddie does, later, when they’re alone. He can just feel it coming.

“Hey, look!” Lila exclaims, pointing out a bunny on the path up ahead. Dani squirms out of Eddie’s arms to her feet before she runs off after the rabbit with her sisters.

Eddie takes up the bags Lila and Blair left behind, calling, “Stay out of the road!” after them. When Richie falls into step beside him, following after their daughters, he nudges Eddie with his shoulder, bumping their upper arms together.

“You okay, big guy?” Richie asks. Eddie shrugs, but his face is still flushed. “You can scream into a pillow all you want when you get home, how’s that?”

“He was just—” Eddie starts, before gritting his teeth shut, frustrated. He exhales slowly, then says, “He was just incredibly patronizing, and I was— was not appreciative of the way he was speaking to me and the girls.”

“You should’ve just started walking,” Richie says.

“We were waiting for you,” Eddie reminds him. “I didn’t want to just leave our bags.”

Richie doesn’t really know what to say except, that guy sucks, but he’s sure Eddie knows that. Regardless, he says, “Eds, that guy sucks, I’m sorry.”

With a huff, Eddie says, “I’m just— I’m real sick of people talking to me that way. It’s… You know, it’s just like—”

“Daddy!” Dani shouts back to him. She holds the rabbit up over her head, triumphant, a delighted smile on her face. The bunny seems apparently content to be there, just hanging out in her hands, nose twitching. “Can we keep him?”

“Oh, my God,” Eddie says instantly, breathlessly. Richie snorts a laugh. “Baby, please put that down!”

“Daddy,” Dani pleads with him. Eddie looks to Richie, all furrowed brow and his handsome, sharp face. He can’t help but lean in and kiss him.

“That isn’t helpful,” Eddie points out, smiling when they separate. Richie nudges him towards the girls.

“You’ve got all the help you need right there,” Richie says. Eddie rolls his eyes, but he makes Richie hold out his arms so he can line the bags up to his elbows. “Oh, don’t you worry, the pack mule’s right behind you.”

Yes, i am officially on quarantine as of today. My school’s got a pupil free week next week and after that is Easter holidays!

My sister and sometimes my mum, cause she works part time. Also my cat, two dogs, bird, many fish, and tarantula :)

are you a homebody?

Yes, but I do enjoy going out on hikes and doing stuff with friends during the holidays, which I can't really do now 

an event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled?

Not really an event but I was hoping me and my friends could go out to a gay bar for my 18th birthday in July, but if things stay the way they are then that might not happen. I’ll just have my birthday party in Minecraft instead

what movies have you watched recently?

Not many because of school, but I did watch this movie from the 70′s that I loved when I was a kid called Dot And The Kangaroo. On reassessment, I think it’s a little bit (just a tiny bit) racist to aboriginal culture, but tbh it’s still better than most movies from that time and it was trying it’s best. I still like it for its good parts but recognise it was a little problematic 

what shows are you watching?

I’m catching up on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and I started watching I Am Not Okay With This but am yet to finish it. Also a whole bunch of true crime documentaries because I am very white and they are easy to watch while doing assignments. 

what are you reading?

I just finished Animal Farm by George Orwell about an hour ago (what a fucking book, btw), I’m partway through This Present Darkness by Frank E. Perreti for this school bookclub thing I’m in (but I probably won't finish it because It Is So Fucking Bad, Y’all. The characters are boring, it’s a “thriller” but has absolutely no suspense, the dialogue is terrible, all the important main characters are men, and the only women are... well it’s very clear they were written by a man, I’ll say that. Anyway, rant over), and I’ve just started The Book Of M by Peng Shepherd. There’s also about 3-5 more books on my shelf that I’ve started but haven't gotten around to finishing yet.

what are you doing for self-care?

What the fuck is self-care? Looking after yourself in order to stay ““happy””? Sounds fake but okay. jk I’ve been trying to keep my sleep schedule in check and doing things that keep my creativity up like craft and writing. Other than that tho, not much. But I’ll try to do better in the next few weeks ig

Mario Super Sluggers: Theoretical Human AU!

DISCLAIMER: By Human AU, I mean that all the playable characters are human (which seems sort of obvious to me, but you never know)! As such, they live as long as your average human lives in a non-harmful environment.

With that noted, well... as Mario would say, “Let’s-A Go!”

Captains:

Mario & Luigi: Mid-late 20s, maybe early 30s. Old enough to have the mustaches, but young enough to seem young. They run their unfortunately deceased fathers’ plumbing business.

Peach & Daisy: 2-3 years younger than Mario and Luigi tops. Working to inherit their families’ crazy rich companies - the Toadstools run a produce business, the Sarasas sell gardening supplies.

Yoshi & Birdo: Yoshi is midway in their teenage years, about 14 to 16 years old. Birdo is a little older, but still a minor (16-17). Yoshi x Birdo. Each of their families run rival diners, and Mario is a family friend of the Munchakupas family (slightly edited last name of Yoshi).

Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong: Donkey Kong is a young adult (early-mid 20s). He takes care of his nephew Diddy (13-15), and makes money by helping his family in their businesses here and there. A former criminal who turned his life around after his old team killed his grandfather without him knowing, he occasionally helps the police in their fight against his old team - the Kremlings to atone. The fuzz don’t know he was one of them.

Wario, & Waluigi: Wario and Waluigi are a bit older than the Mario Brothers, but not by much. Late 20s to mid-30s. Salesmen and occasional thieves/robbers/et cetera when desperate.

Bowser & Bowser Junior: Leader of the closest thing Toadstool and Sarasa have to a rival company, the Darklin family run the leading business for meat and general grill-based items. Tensions are high between the three companies (well, just for the Darklin - Dr. Isaac “Dry” Darklin pales before the other two), and when the boss has enough of not being number one, he has his personal blackmailed bodyguard/hitman Bowser Koopa (mid 30s to early 40s) go to eliminate Peach & Daisy (that, or his preteen Junior gets it). Mario and Luigi, who were called to fix something (there was nobody else open and not rude), notice and step in. Although he gets away, they still are rewarded for more than the plumbing job. Word spreads of the “Super Mario Brothers,” and from there, things get better and worse for all parties involved.

Minor Characters (assume all multicolored characters are about the same age):

Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, & Baby DK : Nonexistent in this AU. Maybe flashbacks?

Toads: Workers at Toadstool and Sarasa. If you look around the hotel for all of them, you’ll usually see 5 of them at most.

Toadette: Toadette is Sarasa’s Head of Staff.

Toadsworth: Toadsworth is Toadstool’s Head of Staff, as well as Peach’s personal assistant and teacher.

Piantas and Nokis: Mario Brothers’ neighbors. Three brothers and three sisters

Dixie Kong, Funky Kong & Tiny Kong: Diddy Kong’s girlfriend. Dixie met Diddy when DK saved her and the other two from the Kremlings (though they lost not only family members Chunky & Kiddy but close ones such as Bluster and Lanky). Sharing the same last name is actually coincidental.

King K. Rool & Kritters: Leader and lower members of the Kremlings. K. Rool always butted heads with DK before K. Rool became leader. Responsible enough to put their differences beside them... for a while; then he tried to have DK offed. DK lived, of course.

Goomba, Koopas, Paratroopas, & Paragoomba: Used to work for Darklin in its dirtier deeds, but now freelance in crime as hired workers. Often seen working with the Wario Duo, these 6 have a weird dislike for the Kremlings (with the even weirder exception of Donkey Kong; they secretly make sure anyone after the Kongs or their close ones are dealt with). Paratroopas and Paragoomba often work as messengers and part-time at the post office for honest work.

Magikoopas: You might think they have a religious role, what with the robes and all. WRONG! They’re scientists for Darklin. Led by the one known as Kamek, they’re known as the Magikoopas because Bowser introduced them to Dry and their ability to accomplish crazy scientific feats. They aren’t actually part of the Koopa family, however; Bowser is merely longtime friends with Kamek, and rumors spread. Bowser still isn’t entirely sure if they actually know/use magic or not. Unlike Bowser, they willingly work with Darklin, as he provides means for their experiments, and that difference threatens to divide the old friends in the end.

Dry Bones, Blue, Green, and Dark Bones: Dry’s kids who were lost in an accident. The scientific skill isn’t the only reason Dry hired the Magikoopas... 

Boo & King Boo: The security team for Sarasa which Daisy occasionally lends to Toadstool, the Boos are brought in after Bowser’s attack. When on break, they like to pull harmless and wisely-targeted pranks on Luigi while he’s there.

Petey Piranha & Wiggler: Old friends of King Boo called in as extra support. Petey and Wiggler is Daisy’s tutor in gardening business; think younger but bigger and far more intimidating Toadsworths for Daisy.

Shy Guys: A gang. They’re seen redeemed and working for the Sarasas at the end.

Monty Mole & Blooper: Thieves who follow the same path as the Shy Guys for Toadstool.

Weapon Brothers (Hammer/Fire/Boomerang Bro): Construction workers called in after Bowser’s attack. Paid off to keep quiet about him before a later attempt.

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE  Part 1, Chapter 1: Flood the Wedding Lake

THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM…

           All across the Mushroom Kingdom things stop. The toads, goombas, and koopas put aside their chores and head to Princess Peach’s Castle to watch her coronation and her wedding. Peach has insisted that both affairs to happen on the same day, the first for the kingdom. She and Mario have waited long enough, so now that they had their moment of peace it was time for them to make to professor their love under the law.

The coronation happens before the sun is up. There are already hundreds of toads outside the walls of the castle waiting to get a glimpse of the new Queen. Princess Peach joins the cabinet in the Star Room to begin the coronation. There the Chancellor and the Toad Minister, the two leading heads of her cabinet, wait to officiate the process. The Chancellor is a toad with grey spots on his head, he dons a deep purple robe and a golden pendant to acknowledge his title. Toad Minister wears a green mushroom cap with a matching vest, and a gray curly mustache. The room is silent until the door opens, it’s Toadsworth. He is a high adviser to Princess Peach and the closest thing she has to a grandfather.

           “Hi ho, Princess,” Toadsworth greets as he stands beside her. The room is still silent.

           The Princess looks down at him, calmly and happily. “Hi ho.”

           “Right, now that everyone is here,” the Chancellor starts. “It is time for the coronation to begin.” The Chancellor reads scripture from old Mushroom Kingdom texts that make sure Peach rules for the people. She promises to rule justly, peacefully, and courageously. After all the jargon, the coronation closes with the moving of the crown. “King Toadstern, is there anything you’d like to say?”

           In front of the Peach and Toadsworth is Henry Toadstern, the interim King. He holds the crown in his hand, gripping it as tight as he can. “Losing this crown is going to be tough. I struggled with the duties for a while. But more recently I got comfortable with the crown. Although I knew my role was temporary, I hope my impression will be permanent. Your highness, if you need any guidance, know that you have my support.” Toadstern smiles but still grips the crown, the rest of the cabinet looks at Peach for her response.

           “When my father informed me I would be heir to the crown I lost a lot of things. I lost my innocence to the kingdom, my mother and sisters to jealousy, and my father to disease. Like every girl in this position, I rebelled against it. I ran off with a man and became a damsel. But now that I’ve defeated mine and my kingdom’s biggest enemy, I can say that I am ready. And despite all the things I lost with the title of the crown, I am happy to say I gained a friend while I took the time to claim it,” Peach interrupts the ceremony to hug Toadstern. She bows her head and Toadstern holds the crown over her head, then places it on her blonde hair. Peach rises.

           “Well, well,” Toadsworth smiles under his grey mustache. “The Mushroom Kingdom finally has a new Queen.”

Later…

           The day has started and the castle is full of commotion. Toads are running around everywhere. Mario and his brother, Luigi, are hiding from all the chaos. Mario is just beginning to put on his suit for the wedding. His groomsman Luigi and Geno are trying to adjust whatever they can. Peach enters the room, Mario is aghast.

           “Peach!” Mario shouts. “We’re not-uh supposed tuh see each other!”

           “But look at it!” Peach bows her head to show Mario the crown.

           “It’s huge!”

           Luigi enters the room. “Woah Princess you’re gonna have tuh start doing exercises to keep that crown on your head.

           “Luigi, it’s Queen,” Mario says.

           “Ah right, sorry, your highness,” Luigi says nervously.

           “Don’t worry about it Luigi, just call me Peach,” Peach smiles at Mario. They can’t seem to believe it is finally their wedding day. Someone barges in the room.

           “Princess –Queen Toadstool!” It is Toadsworth. “You need to get ready!”

           “Alright,” Peach complies and follows him back to her chambers.

           As Toadsworth walks Peach back to her dressing room she notices all of the decorations. Floral valances are draped around the tall walls of the castle, pink and white roses hang from the ceiling. She looks out the window to see the toadstool flags fly above the towers, and spikes defend the surrounding area. Peach roams the castle to look at all the directions to make sure everything is perfect. The ceremony is being held in the great hall of the castle, with white benches and a pink carpet to complete the theme.

           “Queen Toadstool” Toadsworth stops Peach.

           Queen Peach giggles. “I’m not used to hearing that name.”

           “It’s quite alright your highness, but you can look at the decorations later! We must ge ready!”

           Toadsworth takes Peach to her dressing room where maids are there to help her get ready. The maids are waiting there setting up makeup, the dress, and anything else she needs before the wedding commences. However, Toadsworth sends the maids out so it is just him and her in the room. He sits Peach down and cranks up the chair so he is eye level with her. Toadsworth holds the makeup in his hand with a brush and starts to paint away.

           “Toadsworth!” Peach smiles. “I didn’t know you could do makeup!”

           “You’d be surprised the things I would do for you,” Toadsworth continues away on Peach’s face. “How are you feeling?”

           “I’m worried,” Peach admits.

           “About what? Mario?”

           “No of course not. Mario is the least of my worries.”

           “Then what?”  

           “I’m worried about the kingdom.” Toadsworth stops but Peach continues to speak. “All this time I’ve been gone I’ve just been a damsel. They think I’m a damsel. A damsel that isn’t fit to lead. I’ve wasted years getting captured by apes and overweight turtles. There needed to be an interim King because I couldn’t even defend myself! It’s embarrassing!”

           “Then prove them wrong.”

           Peach scoffs, “Don’t make it sound so easy Toadsworth.”

           “It should be!” Toadsworth protests. “Bowser is gone, there is no more threat to the Mushroom Kingdom besides your insecurity.”

           “Hmm,” Peach is quiet. “Why do you always know what to say?”

           “I’m your grandfather, that’s what I’m here for Princess –er –um, I mean Queen.”

           After Toadsworth finishes Peach’s makeup and hair, the door to the dressing room barges open. There Peach’s three sisters, Pinkie, Pearl, and Plum run into the room. All three sisters have blonde hair like Peach. Pinkie is tiny and small, but the prettiest out of the three sisters. Pearl is tall and skinny, with big lips and heavy features. Plum is short and fat, her hair only went to her shoulders and her dress seems just as short. They pour sand from odd places and smell of sweat.

           “Where have you been?” Toadsworth shouts.

           “It’s a long way from the Dry Dry Dessert,” Plum spits, some of which lands on Toadsworth’s face.

           “Farther then the Wet Wet Tongue,” Toadsworth says while wiping the spit off his face. Toadsworth brings the maids back to finish getting the rest of the girls ready.

Before the wedding…

           As the day goes on guests starst to arrive, Princess Daisy of Sarasaland is one of the first of many. She is joined by Rosalina, the guardian of the cosmos and one of the Lumas she looks after. Yoshi and Birdo come together and meet with the Kongs: Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie. They find their seats in the first few aisles. Cappy and Pauline joined the ceremony as well. The rest of the great hall is filled by toads, toadettes, goombas, koopas, and boos.

           The ceremony begins, Mario stands waiting at the head of the great hall with Luigi and Geno as his groomsmen. Pinkie, Pearl, and Plum awkwardly walk down the great hall across from Mario. Suddenly, the shuffling of feet spread through the great hall but you don’t see anyone get up, except the humans. Queen Toadstool, for the last time is covered in white. She graces down the aisle and meets Mario’s hand. The Toad Minister walks them through their vows, then Mario pulls back the vail.

           “Did Toadsworth do your makeup?” Mario asks.

           “Yes! Yes he did!” Peach laughs.

           “It looks great, Peach.”

           “And you may kiss the Queen,” The Toad Minister watches as Mario kisses her into a dip. The great hall echoes with cheer. In the courtyard, all the toads that camped out cheer as well. Mario takes her down the aisle and they begin the celebration!

After the wedding…

           All around the gardens of the castle are tables and games for everyone to play. Toadsworth, Chancellor, and Toad Minister oversee everything like the old toads they are. Peach is overjoyed to see Daisy and Rosalina. Pauline and Cappy lead the band. As dinner gets closer everyone starts to get settled in their seats. During this time, Peach’s sisters say goodbye, they claim they have to be back to the Dry Dry Desert as soon as possible. Peach thought they cared but it is apparent that they don’t. Daisy and Rosalina fill their seats at the wedding table so Peach doesn’t continue to be upset.

           Dinner is supposed to start, however, Luigi is supposed to make his speech but he is nowhere to be found. Peach sends Daisy to find him. It doesn’t take long for Daisy to find Luigi, she knows all of his hiding spots. She finds him in the bathroom on the third floor near the ballroom. Daisy knocks on the door.

           “Just hurry up! I gotta go too,” Daisy jokes. She hears fumbling, then flushing, then the running of water. Luigi comes out looking like he usually does: nervous. “Do you want me to stand with you while you give the speech? I could introduce you!”

           “Yeah-uh that would be good,” Luigi and Daisy start walking. “–Don’t you have to go to the bathroom?”

           “Not anymore.” Daisy smiles. They head back to the tents where people are patiently waiting for their dinner. Everyone is silent. Dead silent. Daisy grabs the microphone.

           “Hi everyone!” Daisy boasts. “Dinner is gonna take a little bit, I think the chef dropped his mushroom top in the soup. So now we’ll be having creamy mushroom soup instead of creamy bisque.” Silence still. “Anyways, the best man and brother of the groom would like to make a speech, Luigi!”

           Luigi takes the mic but can barely hold onto it. “H-hi.” He opens his crumbled paper, wipes the sweat off his brow and prepares himself. “My brother is –a –a hero in my eyes. He has –uh saved me, countless times. As well as the Princess. I mean Queen. H –he has also –uh. He has also helped me learn –a –about politics –and –and people and love. He has shown me love. And I –I hope you see how –how much of a hero he is too, Peach.” Luigi sits down next to Mario who hugs him and kisses him. Toadsworth gets up on a stool so he can be seen and is handed the mic.

           “Thank you Luigi. Now, this evening I’ve heard Peach correct people hundreds of times. Normally I would say you know, ‘Peach you can’t do that, it is rude’ but I realized the reason she was correcting people is because they kept calling her princess. Peach’s title isn’t princess, it’s Queen. Now, mistaking a regale’s title can banish you from the premises, however, we have gallons of mushroom soup that someone needs to eat. So we will wait till after everyone eats the mushroom soup to banish them.

“Did you know that no one has ever had their coronation and wedding on the same day, no one! In the entire Mushroom Kingdom history. Queen Peach managed to implement two essential ceremonies into one day. Now, I know she may have been absent for a while, however, planning two royal ceremonies in the same day is the hardest thing she will have to do as Queen. So for anyone that doubts her, know that. And to Mario, know that Princess Peach may have been your damsel to save but she is the Queen now. Congratulations to the both of you. Now let’s eat!”

           The food is finally released to the masses, now the celebration can really begin. Rosalina’s lumas make a light show in the sky for everyone to view and enjoy. Some of them come over to the wedding table.

           “Oh Daisy!” Rosalina calls Daisy’s attention. “I think that it’s time we have a friend in Sarasaland.” Rosalina brings over a orange colored Luma and gives it to Daisy. “It can communicate with any of the Lumas. So you can reach me, or Peach at any time, whenever you want.”

           “Thank you!” Daisy jumps up and down. She takes her Luma to meet Luigi so she can bring him to the dance floor.

Rosalina inches closer to Peach. “So how come Mario isn’t King? You’re the Queen and he married you. Shouldn’t that make him King?”

           “In the Mushroom Kingdom there are certain rules for the royal family. If you aren’t the heir of the crown then you have to go through a certain set of trials to be welcomed into the nobility. So in Mario’s case, after he marries me he has to affirm a governmental policy, law, act, or treaty and it has to be approved by my cabinet. And secondly he has to pay debt to me, like give me a child or restore my reputation –anything like that.”

           “So in order to qualify as King he needs to pay dues to you and the kingdom.”

           “Right, to prove his loyalty. His title would be King Adjutant, just because I have rank over him.” There is a pop in the sky.

           “Ooh, it looks like the light show is getting interested, let’s go watch,” Rosalina takes Peach and Mario to watch the Lumas in the sky dance about. Colors flash around and swirl in different motions that mesmerize everyone watching.

           Shortly after the light show people start to leave. Mario says goodbye to Geno, Pauline, and Cappy. Most of the other guests leave as well. It starts to get cold so Peach takes the party inside. After they enjoy a few glasses of wine, Daisy starts to get tired and calls for a carriage to take her and her Luma home. Yoshi, Birdo, and the Kongs don’t stay long after that either. Rosalina waits till it’s pitch black outside, this way the Lumas and the moon can illuminate a clear path to the Space Observatory. Mario, Peach, and Luigi talked for a while before they all started falling asleep.

Later that night…

           Suddenly, a big rumble shook the ground around the castle. Mario gets dressed and heads to the balcony, expecting to see Bowser return with a bigger and hotter air ship. He is surprised to see water pouring out from over the shrubbery rampart. It pours from the east and south sides, though in that direction are villages of the Mushroom Kingdom. The rampart is surprisingly strong enough not to collapse but doesn’t stop the flow of constant water. Peach joins Mario outside of the balcony to watch as the moat overflows, the lawn becomes oversaturated and the land is flooding.

           “Your highness,” Toadsworth runs in, stops and notices that Peach and Mario are already aware of the disaster. “Meet us downstairs.”

           Mario and Peach meet Luigi and the cabinet at the second story main stairwell. They notice that the first two steps leaving the first story are underwater. Peach looks over to Luigi, he still has his sleeping cap on and his overalls are backwards. Luigi’s eyes roll to the back of his head, he leans backwards, then forwards then, SPLASH! Into the water.

           “Well he’s awake now!” Toadsworth comments. “We do we suppose we do?”

           “Huh! What kind of question is that?” Toadstern asks.

           “Mushroom Kingdom has never had a crop die, a serious drought, or a copious amount of water in its entire existence. Apparently today is the day where all the records are broken!”  

           “We need to get a group of toads to start building a barrier,” Toad Minister commands. “Mario we’ll need your help with that.”

           “What about the dungeons? There’s people in there!” Toadstern asks.

           “We need to make sure the drainage system is still intact too,” Toad Minister adds.    

           “What about the damage control on the first floor, what if people are trapped somewhere?” Toadstern wonders.

           “QUIET!” Toadsworth shouts. “We need time to think.”

           “No –uh, you don’t,” Luigi mutters.

           “What did you just say to me boy?” Toadsworth asks in disbelief.

           “Grandpa,” Peach tames Toadsworth.

           “Woah! Luigi and I can handle this,” Mario starts. “Peach and the cabinet will go to the Toadstool Manor. Luigi and I will take care of the flood, we’re plumbers!”

           “And how exactly do you plan to fix the flooding issue?” Chancellor asks.

           “Let me handle that Chancellor,” Mario says.

           “You heard him, pack a bag.” Peach says. The cabinet leaves unhappy with the situation but complying anyway. “Mario, I do hope you know what you’re doing.” Peach leaves Mario and Luigi to deal with the flooding.

           “So Mario, what are we gonna do about the flooding?” Luigi asks.

           “Gee Luigi, I have no idea,” Mario admits.

Moments later…

           Two carriages are waiting outside the castle. Peach holds her dress up to see the water up to her calves. Peach, her Luma, and Toadstool get into the first carriage then the rest of the cabinet get in the other. The Toadstool Manor is all the way down the north road leading out of Peach’s Castle. It’s quite smaller from the castle but is a wonderful summer home that Toadsworth often lives in to get away from the castle.

“This is quite odd Peach…” Toadsworth has been trying to wrap his head around this situation. The Mario brothers ran them out of the castle almost instantly. Toadsworth needs to discuss this with someone. As he has said before the Mushroom Kingdom has never suffered.

“I don’t want to talk about this,” Peach quashes. She hasn’t been given the time to think. No one has. She needs to sit inside her head for a while. “Luma, contact Rosalina and let her know what happened.” This may be the most important decision she makes. In a crisis like this they need support from outside people. Rosalina doesn’t have room for the entirety of the Mushroom Kingdom but she does have resources and more importantly guidance. She will gladly be a hand in the storm. If there is anything that the Mushroom Kingdom needs it is a helping hand. Peach considers reaching out to Donkey Kong and Yoshi. She doesn’t see any of the cabinet going so, she’ll have to –they stop.

One of the drivers opens the door. “Your highness, it seems as though the road has suffered some damage.”

“Well can we move through it?”

“We can, but I’m not sure how it will be as we continue.”

“Let’s carry on. Let me know if anything else happens.” The door closes and Peach is left to her thoughts. Peach will check in with Mario when they get settled into the mansion. They continue on as Mario and Luigi try to fix the problem at the castle.

Across the water…

           Across the Wedding Lake (named after the day it was created on), Birdo is dripping from the waves that just attacked her. She looks below as the villages of the Mushroom Kingdom are now destroyed. She shakes her head, refusing to think about all of her friends that are under water. The waves seem to come from nowhere! The Mushroom Kingdom had never faced any sort of disaster like this before.

           As she is flying she sees something red in the water. Birdo floats down to see a kid in a red boat with a dragon-like face. She thinks she saw the head move. Birdo stares at it intensely. It must not have. She circles around to the boy who is dressed in green. She hears someone murmur, it must be the boy. Birdo hears it again. She catches the jaw of the dragon moves and circles around to look at it. Is she imagining things? Birdo did enjoy herself at the wedding, maybe she should just move on. Birdo reaches out her claw to touch the dragon. It bites her!

           “Link! Link! Wake up!” The dragon boat shouts. The boy, Link, wakes up and slashes his sword around. Birdo backs off. Link then pulls out a baton and swirls it around the air. The breeze starts to pick up, Link mounts a sail, then they get carried by the breeze and drift away from Birdo.

           Birdo continues on her journey. She needs to make it back to Bowser’s Castle without anyone noticing. She sneaks in the way she normally does, avoiding all of the Hammer bros. guards and spotlights. She perches herself on the great hall window where she sees Kamek stirring a big cauldron. The koopalings are watching Kamek intensely.

           “Hey Birdo!” Bowser Jr. shouts. “Where’ve you been?”

           “Looking at the flood that happened between here and the Mushroom Kingdom,” Birdo answers.

           “Well look at this instead,” Larry, one of the koopalings chirps.

           “What are you guys doing?”

           “Ludwig and Kamek perfecting a potion to bring Bowser back! Hopefully to finish Mario this one last time,” Bowser Jr. explains.

           Kamek and Ludwig are almost done with the potion. He winds up the wand and blasts a magic spell into the bubbling cauldron. The potion starts to change color from a light green to a dark red. It is clear that the potion has turned to lava. The koopalings cheer as this transformation is happening. Kamek can see Birdo’s face beginning to worry. Suddenly, a tender claw reaches out and grabs the edge of the cauldron.
