I only have access to series 2 episodes, and yes, it was a step up in quality but I still miss series one.

Side effect of toddler sleeping better: my dreams are returning to their wild & whack state simply by virtue of not getting interrupted all the time. Not that I particularly enjoyed the first one of last night, where I was being referred to doctor Matthew Mcconaughey for an ailment that turned out to be abnormal cells in my liver. In Matthew Mcconaughey's words, I had two options: either it was good, or bad. Which, I mean, seems the way that usually would go. At the same time I was talking to my husband via telepathic link, who informed me that McC was a sap of a doctor who'd rather not stab women with needles, so obviously I grabbed McC by the scruff of his scrubs and told him he'd better do whatever was necessary. Now I'd brought C with me and she was asleep in the other room, and he got all teary over the implications and swore to do his utmost.

The whack part was where the hospital was built on an enormous, spaceship-style boat and was stationed on the deepest sea on earth. As the appointment unfolded, an enormous, actual-spaceship started coming down out of the sky, making an enormous racket that woke up my daughter. Evidently this pissed me off, but I had no time to promise gruesome murder to the pilot before the spaceship crashed into the nearby port city, flattening it completely. The hospital boat shuddered and creaked, and then immediately sank underneath the waves. Luckily everyone had somehow had the ability to breathe underwater, but it was still a Not Good Event, and we all scrambled in an attempt to fix it. I woke up just after Mcconaughey had taken the time to prescribe hubs pantoprazol, though.

The other ones involved a spaceship ball full of goth women engineers, wine-drunk soldiers, hot generals, and genre writers, and had me telepathically change the ballroom floor because there wasn't enough room to dance thanks to an enormous opening in the floor to allow people to gawk at shrubbery on the biogarden deck below. The DJ was upset over the resulting lack of view so I gave him a new one, complete with plants and a fake star overhead to get some nice light-filtering going on. The third is the most nebulous, something about sneaking into a cult's doomsday preparations like it was an Elder Scrolls game and ending up becoming Grand Master through quests just to dissolve the cult.

    a passerby makes their way past crumbled tragedy , even if being at the outskirts of a catastrophe has proven to be rather dangerous . what’s left over of a city being said proof — only bare structure of once buildings and originium forming being the tale . they only mean to travel quickly through the city , night can be perilous in abandoned places — as it can serve as hideout for thugs , or perhaps hidden in the rubble could be reunion’s guard dogs hungry for a meal .

    instead , what came from under debris was a desperate hand clinging on their foot .     isn’t it odd how fate works ?

    “ patient suffers from several internal injuries along with broken ribs , a dislocated hip , and a broken shoulder . her abdomen felt rigid — so we have to take her to surgery , right now . ”

    “ i’m surprised she’s managed only that much damage , considering all that weight that was under her . do we have a name ? ”

    “ awful question to ask , she’s a sarkaz found in an abandoned city — she’ll be a jane doe for the time being . ”

    later on the next day , the sarkaz wakes up with in a haze . though oddly calm in taking in her surroundings , it takes awhile for the other medics to realize she’s a awake , mainly because she never said a word about pain or having needed assistance . one intern nudges another as they watch the girl through her room’s windows , “ hey , did they ever track down the one who found her ? ” she receives a shake of a head as an answer , “ no , surgeons said something about how they didn’t pay attention to the person who brought her . just that she was losing blood and they had to act quickly , well , at least they had their priorities straight ... ”

     “ i have a feeling she’s going to be a hassle to deal with . ”

     “ i have a feeling you just don’t want to work and be lazy . ”

    “ you’re keeping track of her progress ? how kind of you . it seems like most of the medics are tossing her around , but the basics are : the tear in her abdomen was repaired successfully and had no further infections , hip surgery worked well , she presents no abnormal neurological symptoms . but ... ” Ansel looks up from his clipboard and to Perfumer , “ but ... ? ”

     “ no one’s been at her bedside aside from staff . despite having nothing neurologically wrong , she doesn’t speak that much either . ”

     “ not even to claim her even as a potential friend ? give out company ? ” Perfumer shakes her head at the intern , “ she’s been under my watch since then , i take her out to gardening whenever i can . she doesn’t reject interactions with others , it’s just she doesn’t seek them out . ”

     “ Sarkaz sure are an odd bunch , ” the cautus idly taps at his clipboard . but his ears flick as he comes up with an idea , “ though , the fact she was still armed when they found her , we can safely assume she was a mercenary right ? and she was located near Kazdel . it wouldn’t hurt to hear if anyone from there has heard of her . ” it then sparks an idea of her own , the fact that Flamebringer also lingers around the biogarden : “ i know someone i could ask . ”

     “ W ? ” Ansel was hoping the botanist could take that assignment from him , but was met with disappointment .

     its quite easy to wrangle some answers from Flamebringer , he likes to speak vaguely , leaving others on the edge of their seat or have them look for the answers themselves . but Perfumer certainly didn’t allow the dance as she usually would . she wanted to prevent their Jane Doe from being anymore lonelier .

     “ this girl . ” she pulls up her electronic records , placing it directly in front of Flamebringer’s sight . a clean face from dirt and dust and bruises . long pink hair , though part of it singed off , likely from a fire in the catastrophe she was stuck in . but it was enough identification for anyone to recognize her . luckily for Perfumer , the sarkaz only had to spare a quick glance before a smug look forms on his face . “ hooh , and what depths of hell did someone drag her out of this time ? ”

     “ so you know her ? ” a thread of hope it seems , Flamebringer shrugs in response . though , his reaction doesn’t completely diminish Perfumer’s hope on the matter : “ she’s a little makeshift saint on the battlefield . you see her , she fights . and she fights well , hardly encounters any losses from what i heard . but i know better than others when i spot someone who isn’t meant to kill . this one is definitely an example of what was supposed to be a healer , or whatever . one of you guys . ”

     so , the Jane Doe was akin to something like a street dog . or maybe a pampered one , but then had to learn how to fight ? “ ... do you mind expanding on that ? ” Flamebringer laughs in response , low and cool . he sets  his watering can down on one of the counters . “ you islanders sure stick your nose deep into business . ” was this the end signal for the conversation ? one’s past can either do more damage than good , almost akin to what she’s heard from when human resources tried to dig up more intel about his past . she starts to close up the tabs on her tablet , marking the end of her contribution on this assignment . but Flamebringer heaves a sigh , almost dramatically , to ease up Perfumer . humor is a coping tactic , a lot of them know this — but maybe she needs a giggle before delivering serious news .

     “ but i know you’re not going to use this info against her . well , not that i’d let you , and it’s not like you could . ”

     “ Kazdel is a harsh place , Lena . in order to survive , you need to give up a lot of yourself , conjure up kills like its candy for money and to adjust — that’s her life . she was apart of another mercenary group when she was younger , before she became the leader of the ones that abandoned her . ” abandoned . not just caught up in a moment of unluck ? “ first time i saw her , we were both on the younger side . her leaders were making her fight against others , sick entertainment . but it wasn’t my business , so i didn’t interfere . ”

     “ someone dragged a large shard of originium down her back . for a night’s meal . that’s the only thing i know of what they did to her in that group . ”

     “ and ... she still survived ? ”

     Flamebringer laughs again , curt . from both the mortified expression on the girl’s face , and from her question . “ yeah , no shit . how else would she be here now ? ”
