I love Nergal, he's my fave character from the show, so of course all shots I picked were involving him. I will be releasing some progress videos of the shots later also.

Good day sir. Hope I'm not bothering you My brother and I are rewatching The grim adventures and it's been fun. Miss cartoons that were just plain random fun. I'm curious about 3 things if I may ask - Jeff the Spider's design changed a few times, his first appearance was more simple, his second appearance was more detailed and gross looking, then after that he went back to a simple design. Was it because the "gross" design was too hard to animate? - I've noticed in some episodes a few characters with glasses would have green eyes, similar to Nergal Junior. Was there a miscommunication with the animation team? - Lastly, is there anything you wish you could've done differently in Billy and Mandy? Like doing certain episodes or characters different? Just retrospective sorta stuff I know this is probably asking a lot, but I just want you to know you're a great source of inspiration and one of the many reasons why I love spooky supernatural content. Keep up the good fight

#1:

The reason that most of the characters changed over time was because I updated the models to help the overseas studios (and our own internal artists) get things on-model. I'll go deeper into Billy & Mandy's history with designs in "Billy & Mandy vs. The Entertainment Industry", but I went from wanting to allow artists to have complete freedom to tightening things down as time went on. The smart play would've to develop solid models first and then explain how, when, and why you can break the rules. That's the opposite of what we did.

Jeff was a more complicated character than most, with his double-mandible, multiple eyes, and eight limbs. I suspect that what happened in this case was that the overseas studio either didn't keep or didn't share the original Jeff model with their teams, and instead only used the "special pose" model of Jeff looking gross. Like a lot of the model stuff, it was a quality control issue. Back then when everything was analog (we still had to deliver on film up through the turn of the century) it was pretty hard to change anything once it had been done. So I'd always say, "next time" and then do a clarity pass over the designs.

Same deal. In the first few seasons, we had analog color correction, where you'd go to a big suite and some guy would run picture and you'd call out anything big that was bugging you. Chances are that we either didn't notice the error, or did and just couldn't do anything about it.

All of those early Mandy smiles were put in overseas, and I wasn't allowed to fix them. It bugged me so much that I vowed to find a way to fix stuff like that myself. I eventually figured out that I could export individual frames to Photoshop, tweak them, and then give them back to the editor. That way I could actually reanimate things that really bugged me but we didn't have the budget to fix.

Peculiar children[edit]

Asa Butterfield as Jake Portman, a 16-year-old American teenager and Abe's grandson. He visits Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and is given, by Miss Peregrine, the task/promise of protecting the children. Like his grandfather, Jake has the ability to see the invisible Hollows.

Butterfield also portrays Mr. Barron's disguise as Jake[9]

Ella Purnell as Emma Bloom, an aerokinetic teenager who can manipulate air and can breathe under water by creating liquid bubbles of air. She is lighter than air and must always wear lead shoes or a tether to keep from floating away. Emma is also Abe's former love interest in the 1940s and Jake's current love interest.

Finlay MacMillan as Enoch O'Connor, a teenager and Olive's love interest who can reanimate the dead and bring inanimate objects to life as his living puppets for a limited time by placing a heart inside

Lauren McCrostie as Olive Abroholos Elephanta, a pyrokinetic red-haired teenager and Enoch's love interest. She has to wear special black gloves in order to prevent burning everything she touches.

Louis Davison as Victor Bruntley, Bronwyn's late brother who had the same ability as her. He was killed by a hollow infiltrator prior to the events in the film, and was briefly brought back to life by Enoch.[10]

Oh heck yes I do! Chowder, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Ed, Edd, & Eddy were all my major childhood shows! 

Recently, I have actually been watching some Chowder videos on youtube, such as Chowder Reanimated and 4th wall breaks. It really was an awesome show that helped shape my sense of humor to this day

100 Follower Special: Verne’s concept and creation

Believe it or not, Verne is actually ten years old. I made the very first inch of his universe all the way back in 2007, and I loved developing him since. I'm gonna show you what he went through. It all started wit ha doodle on Flipnote, an animation app for the Nintendo DSi!

The Phases and Faces

Phase One: Frightmare the Scarecrow

As I was seven years old, this didn't take a lot of thought. Frightmare was an anti-hero scarecrow with a comical-cynical attitude, draped in black, wore a stereotypical witch's hat, carried a scythe, and a signature jack-o-lantern for a head, and was vaguely inspired by Jack, an antagonist from "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy". He had a cycloptic, psychic ghost-cohort named Shadoweye, who was plotted by my best friend. His story was short n' sweet, a murdered corpse buried in a scarecrow reanimated by lightning. I'd say Frightmare lasted 'till about 2010(?), however, in a recent thread with @bystcrdust, he returned with a new look and story, becoming a full-blown antagonist and the first step to the Underspace phase in Verne's universe. His grand return was plotted for a year, becoming a dark deity-like "cornerstone of fear" rather than a murder victim.

Phase Two: The Dimension Knight

In 2010, Frightmare was ultimately scrapped and replaced with Dimension Knight, who carried similar attributes, but a different story. Originally, Dimension Knight would've been part of a league of knights dedicated to defending the universe. He still carried the hat and scythe, but clad in buff "dark matter" armor and his face was updated to what you see in my icon, black mask and red veil. He was a total god-mod, being indestructable, having dimensional powers, and being a basic deus ex machina. This was the penultimate combo between Frightmare and Verne, Dimension Knight was scrapped in late 2014.

Phase Three: Captain Clayton Verne

Realizing Dimension Knight was a total god-mod, I had to take a different direction. Toning the indestructibility to "nigh-destructable", and handing down a new story involving the supernatural and political, aristocratical espionage, Captain Verne was born, though retaining the name Dimension Knight for a brief period of time. Due to Verne being an alien, I had to go with the expectation of an alien, but keep some features that would make him likable. As such, he was made into a bizarre, tall, "out of the blue" character. His dimension travelling "powers" was reduced to technology, and his armor was stripped to a musky pilot suit, almost taking on a victorian science fiction feel, dressed in rustic brown and deep red, with the only distinctive black area on him is the mask around his eyes. Verne's home also needed a direction, turned into Leviathan Island, which, like Verne, carries human familiarity, but just as weird and bizarre as Verne himself. Same goes for his car!

Verne is now meant to be an epitome of science fiction, fantasy, and adventure, as well as carrying some elements of horror somehow.

Inspirations

Verne of course required some inspiration from other sources. His tall, slender, yet flexible appearance was inspired by Jack Skellington from “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, being tall and stiff like a tree, but bends just as much as a rubber band. Verne's name, Clayton Verne, is of course named after Jules Verne, to which many of Jules' work inspired Leviathan Island, which i'll get to later. His first name, more obscurely, is from the protagonist of War of the Worlds, whose full name is Dr. Clayton Forrester. Him being a fairly creepy character at first glance is inspired by multiple alien encounters. His career, actions, and skills, is a combo of "Indiana Jones", "Captain Nemo", "Doctor Who", and "Doc Savage", a 1933 magazine claimed to be a forerunner to modern superheroes. His car, it’s inspired by the DeLorean Time Machine from “Back to the Future”, and the “Model-T” look was inspired by “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, which entirely revolved around a flying car.

As for his home Levithan Island, supposed to be centered around leisure, science, and the supernatural, it is based on Hawaii, Venice, EPCOT, and multiple works of Science Fiction, such as Jules Verne (Primarily, "The Mysterious Island"), and Skull Island from King Kong to an extent.

Essentially, he's a big sandwich of freaky and formal science fiction.

Epilogue

Verne continues to grow and develop to this very day, and I consistantly have new ideas for him, and how he can interact with others to this very day. I hope I can do something phenomenal with him one day, and seeing others interacting and having fun with him brightens that future, so I don't know how I can thank you guys enough.
