Soft, Bill thinks, roving his hands greedily over Jay’s flank, his hips, his thighs. Soft soft soft. He’s nothing like Bill, lean and stocky, corded muscles covered by taught scar tissue and wirey blond hair. Scrawny, Jay had said, though there was no bite behind it. 

No, Jay is just soft, long-limbed and strong, though it’s hard to tell just by looking at him. Bill hadn’t felt trapped when Jay had bracketed his thighs over his hips, but he thought maybe he ought to have. 

“You want something?” Jay grins down at him, impossibley pretty. Pretty, pretty, pretty. Like a girl is pretty, like a dame’s handwriting, looping and curling in soft, pencil-lead cursive. Bill drags his hands up the length of Jay’s torso, his fingers resting under the gentle swell of his chest. He sweeps his thumbs across Jay’s nipples just to hear his gasp, the sound so unlike a girl. So very Jay. “Or are you gonna tease me all morning?”

If he was being honest, he wouldnt mind doing just that. He’d want to, in fact, because sometimes watching Jay exist feels like a privilege, tracing the boyish features of his face where the sun hits it like firelight. He’s less freckeled than he was in the war, keeps his hair a little longer. It grows over his ears and Bill can’t stop himself from reaching up to ruffle it. 

“I can’t stand you,” He says, and knows Jay understands. Bill pinches his nose, just to watch his expression scrunch up. He wants to kiss him, so he does.

It’s clumsy, at first, but then Jay wraps his arms around Bill’s neck and Bill’s hand finds the side of Jay’s face and suddenly Jay might as well be the only person on the goddamn planet. 

You’re like an angel, he thinks, and doesn’t dare say it aloud.
