Dropout Does The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals
So my theory about overlap of Dropout and Team Starkid seems to be accurate, and people seemed to like my Dropout does Nerdy Prudes Must Die post, so I'm back for another. Same method and criteria as my previous post, you can go see that if you want to know what they are. Also, I have previously done a similar list with Internet Personalities that included a handful of Dropout people, but I'm gonna try to make this one different.
Also spoilers for potentially anything in the Hatchetfield verse
Paul: Ross Bryant
Ross is a great straight man (in the comedy sense, I don't know his sexuality) while being very funny in his own right, and I think, while Paul has a lot of his own funny moments, it's very important that his character is also the more normal guy reacting to the madness around him. Also, he would slay the Jekyll and Hyde homage that is Let it Out.
Emma : Siobhan Thompson
I think one of the essential parts of Emma's character is an underlying exhaustion with the world, and that is very Adaine Abernant and Ruby Rocks, so I think Siobhan would embody that very well.
Charlotte: Vic Michaelis
I don't think I've ever heard them do a transatlantic accent before, but I just have this gut feeling they'd be so good at it.
Ted: Ify Nwadiwe
While I do genuinely think Ify would be great in the part, if I'm being fully honest, this casting is because I (despite my better judgment) find Ted Spankoffski hot, so casting arguably the hottest man in Dropout in this part makes me seem less damaged for being attracted to the self-proclaimed sleazeball. Also him and Vic seem like they would be great playing off each other.
Bill: Brian "Murph" Murphy
He just has "refuses to drink during the apocalypse so he can be the DD" energy.
Mr Davidson: Brian David Gilbert
Since I'm splitting up all the parts, this basically turns Mr Davidson into a Princess Track where the actor just shows up, sings about desire and being choked while he jerks off, but laments how he can never achieve his dreams, and then pretty much leaves, and I don't know why, but that seems right up BDG's alley.
Melissa: Lisa Gilroy
Lisa Gilroy seems nice, but also kinda scares me, and those are the correct vibes for Melissa (#heymelissacore)
Sam: Jacob Wysoki
My only concern about this casting is that he'd go SO HARD in You Tied Up My Heart that he would keep breaking the handcuffs and/or chair, but that's fine, it would be worth it.
Nora: Katie Marovitch
The "Decaf?" parts of Cup of Roasted Coffee already sounds a bit like her TBH.
Zoey: Rehka Shankar
I feel like Zoey is such an underrated, funny side character in the show (I know she's a very small part, but like every line she has is a banger) and I feel like Rehka is a very underrated performer, so this is a good match.
Greenpeace Girl: Persephone Valentine
Making up the Save the Sea Turtles campaign is such a Sam Nightengale move, and also she would eat up Lah Dee Dah Dah Day.
Alice: Surena Marie
She's got a bit of a baby face (I thought she was like 25) and I think she would handle the change from Alice to Hivemind Alice really well.
Deb: Emily Axford
I'm definitely not just casting this because I want Emily to be my protective and caring girlfriend...
Professor Hidgens: Josh Ruben
I don't have an explanation for this one, this is vibes alone.
General MacNamara: Brennan Lee Mulligan
"Wear a Watch" and a song highlighting how the hivemind is essentially fascist and using the military to destroy any resistance to their regime is so Brennan core.
Homeless Man: Ally Beardlsey
I just feel like this is the part they'd want.
Dan Reynolds: Lou Wilson
Icons play Icons.
Donna: Aabria Iyengar
Icons play Icons
Hard Cuts:
Jacob Wysoki as Ted
Mike Trapp as Paul
Emily Axford as Emma
Jess Ross as Charlotte
Lily Du as Zoey
Grant O'Brien as Professor Hidgens
Grant O'Brien as Ted
Ally Beardlsey as Ted

Song of the Day #26:
'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' by The Smiths (released 1986).
youtube
Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people
And I want to see life
Track #9 on 'The Queen is Dead'.
Fun fact: This is one of those bands, like The Commitments, that are associated with quite a bit of drama, all of which can lead you down a rabbit hole of chaos, so I'll leave that to you and Alice, and instead tell you about a little fun fact regarding another song on their album: 'Bigmouth Strikes Again':
youtube
In this song are some lovely harmonies, attributed to 'Ann Coates'. In fact, the band used Morrissey's voice, altered to a higher pitch! 'Ann Coates' is a reference to the Manchester district 'Ancoats', one of the city's 'most bustling areas during Industrial Revolution'.*
Personal blurb: My brother-in-law (ish) walked in this morning as I was on the way to work and asked the formidable question: 'Do you like The Smiths?', to which I had a very restrained and calm response.°
Their music feels somewhat intoxicating, to me; I could not tell you why, but I know I'm not the only one (hey, Sam Smith and I can both have ideas independent of each other and reach the same finish line). The song itself is actually a bit... disturbing to me, for lack of a better word. The lyrics are essentially 'take me away and make me a life because I don't have one'.
I chose the lyrics above because I love and relate to the sentiment of wanting to escape to the music, laughter, and light. I get so trapped in myself and sometimes being surrounded by humanity without having to be a part of it is just what I need to remind me of all there is and all that's possible.
There's a stanza in the song that I don't fully understand (though I have my own interpretation). How do you interpret this line?
And in the darkened underpass
I thought "Oh God, my chance has come at last"
But then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask
Was it that he was facing the concept of this death he had almost been asking for? In my mind, I almost think he was going to ask this significant person to die with him. (Like the line in the Joan Baez song that she wrote about Bob Dylan: 'Speaking strictly from me, we both could have died then and there' in 'Diamonds and Rust'.) It's more likely that he was going to ask what he's been asking all throughout the song: to go for a drive, to be taken away, to be given a home. But the idea of it being under a darkened underpass lends a strange tone to the scene.
I am reminded of the movie 'Lost in Translation'. There's a scene at the end of the movie where Bill Murray whispers something into Scarlett Johansson's ear as they're parting ways, after a clear kind of love had developed between them that for many reasons, they never acted on and never would. And we never know what he says. (The movie is amazing. Little spoiler but more something to admire and note if you ever watch it: the lights are all red in the scenes in which they interact, until they finally part ways, like time was paused for them. A harbour in the midst of life.) My ex said that in his mind, the line was 'I wanted one more perfect moment with you'. At the time, I resonated with his perspective because we were parting ways not out of choice but out of circumstance, like the movie. But now? Now I imagine he whispered 'thank you for everything you are'.
Sometimes I wonder if I am screaming love with every interaction I have. It feels as though every time I say 'thank you' or give a particularly enthusiastic parting phrase or greeting (especially 'whatup, nerd!!' for some reason), the words 'I love you' or 'I think you're wonderful and you make my world better by being in it' get trapped in my throat.
Maybe we'll never know what The Smiths were trying to ask. But we make our own context, don't we? And that's all we need.
°Launching into a full-blown Ted Talk (Ralph Rant, if you will (that's my name)) and ramming my favourite songs down his throat is very restrained, right? Right??

Misc. SF lore and questions for Steve:
- Will Sal return in physical form (in SF2)? 'Depends on your definition of 'physical'.'
- Is Larry a hot dog or hamburger guy? 'He likes both, he just smooshes them together and eats them at the same time.'
- If the characters had voices, is there anyone who you can name? '...I have a particular voice in my head for Sal, I cant think of anyone who sounds like him... Ash sounds like Michelle Trachtenberg or Sarah Michelle Gellar... Larrys voice is like Keaneu Reeves from Bill and Ted but a little less doofy.'
- Steve has not watched the (Featherfall Studios) fan dub, but will watch it eventually
- What happened to Bob (Todds fish)? 'No comment... hes fine, don't worry'
- Are Sal and Larry devious enough to run from the police? 'Probably, it depends on what they did.'
- ' The friends tried to start a band together but it didn't go far... Sal plays guitar, Todd plays keyboard, Ash sings and plays base, Larry plays drums... they didn't play well but they loved it. Played 90s vibe grungy rock. Larry would have definitely been screaming. I didn't come up with a band name... they probably had a big list and kept switching the name.'
- 'Janice's favorite color is yellow.'
- Philip was not one of the people being sacrificed my the cult in ch 5
- Did Sal recognize pastor Phelps as the same person who shot his mom? 'Sort of. He thought it might be the same person, but he wasn't sure.'
- Did Travis ever end up hanging out with Sal? 'Sal tried... They didn't end up hanging out... Travis' feelings were conflicted on becoming friends... he is so stubborn. '
- Have you read any SF fanfiction? 'I haven't... I didn't want it to influence any story decisions.'
- Sal and Travis or Sal and Ash? 'No comments on ships.'
- Why was SF set in the 90s? 'That's when I grew up... a main inspiration was 90s cartoons, so it's set in that time.'
- Was Travis made in a test tube or does he have a mom? 'He has a mom.... I don't wanna give too much away.'
- Do you watch SF cosplay tiktoks? 'Sometimes. If people tag me in stuff I usually watch them... sometimes I search the tags.'
- Are Lisa and Janice friends? 'Of course they're friends!'
- Did Sal ever introduce Soda to Megan? 'No. He wouldn't want to freak Soda out... especially because Chug is freaked out by her. He wouldn't want to go against Chugs wishes. If Soda would have gotten older, maybe he would have.'
- What happened to the art book? 'We had a publisher, but we lost it. We have a new one that's interested... still trying to get it published.'

was bill and ted 3 good? yes. did it do it for me? no. here is my proposed plot for bill and ted 3.1
following the suggestions of @jugheadstimepolice , the film opens up with a montage of bill and ted getting ready for the day. they are both very sad and miss one another a lot and have photos of each other taped to their bathroom mirrors. the camera pans out to reveal that they are actually next door neighbours.
they are both getting ready for couples therapy, and while they both love jo and lizzy, it's obvious that they see them more as friends than wives. at couples therapy, they both proudly tell each other that they love each other and their wives, to the confusion of the therapist (much like in the movie but it's gayer).
when we meet billie and thea they are listening to money machine. billie is canon nonbinary and is addressed with they/them pronouns. (ted is addressed with he/they because ted is just nonbinary. I don't make the rules.)
billie and thea are of course the chosen ones. the time people know this from the beginning and they spend the movie learning from their dads how to make music. when they realize their dads kind of suck, they hijack the phone booth and go get the assorted historical figures they collected (and kid cudi).
dennis caleb mccoy has gogo boots built onto his feet.
deacon is actually in prison for tax fraud and arson, and instead of marrying missy, we get to see a scene of him getting married to a fellow arsonist.
ted's dad stays in hell because he is a cop and an asshole.
towards the end, bill proposes to ted with a ring pop, asking if he will "be most excellent with him, and party on until death do they part."
the song that saves the world is actually good.
the movie closes with their wedding, where billie and thea play a cooler version of the original wedding song from bill and ted 3 (not that it wasn't already cool enough, I mean bill was fucking throat singing) with the whole band
weezer shows up and tries to play buddy holly but out of nowhere joan of arc and napoleon show up and beat the shit out of them
dave grohl is replaced by david byrne, who also has a cameo at the end (probably in the crowd at their wedding)
bill and ted and billie and thea live happily ever after together

(I'm gonna talk about the third Bill and Ted movie in this post, but mostly with info that was used in the trailers. I'll still tag for spoilers, though.)
Overall, I really enjoyed Bill and Ted Face The Music (although admittedly it has its flaws), but there was one thing that bothered me ever since I saw it mentioned in the trailers. Why did Billie and Thea go to hell and not heaven?
The movie proved that Billie and Thea are sweet, supportive, and most excellent people. Just like their dads! Their dads, however, had a reason for going to hell in Bogus Adventure: they were banished there by a seance while undead.
Billie and Thea, however, were not specifically banished to hell. And yet they still ended up there, even though they seemingly didn't do anything to deserve it. So what damned them?
My theory:
Bill: As pleased as we are for a most epic conclusion to our lifelong quest, we're still plagued by a heinous thought.
Ted: Yeah. How did you, our most excellent daughters, wind up in Hell?
Billie: Oh yeah. About that.
Thea: We, um, sold our souls to Satan for one corn chip.
Bill and Ted: No way
Billie and Thea: Yes way!
Billie: We just saw so many memes about it online and thought, well, maybe it works!
Thea: And then we found some totally menacing grimoires at the library and decided to try it out
Bill: Did you really get a corn chip?
Thea: Yeah.
Ted: ... Was it good?
Billie: Sinfully good
All four of them: (air guitar riff)
