#os: entrails of the animals #im on the last draft edits before i shift to looking for a publisher #unfortunately its a lot of Big changes so its taking so much brainpower augh #mostly bc i wrote the first book with thr idea that it Could be standalone but could also be a trilogy if it got a good reception #but then i decided to just commit to it beinf a trilogy bc thats what i wanted the most #so now im fixing worldbuilding AND having to seed in all of my foreshadowing for the next two books #bc im a bitch who LIVES for as much subtle foreshadowing as i can possibly manage in a story #i think at the end of the day as much work as this is going to take #its going to be worth it ya know?#it takes this from 'the story i happen to tell first' to ' the story i WANT to tell first'#but augh all of these goddamn changes i gotta make #small enough ones that i have to comb the entire story paragraph by paragraph #instead of just redoing certain chapters #and having no energy thanks to my seizure meds #BUT BY GOD IM GETTING THIS SHIT DONE. #To Shape A Dragon’s Breath #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #this is really really good i loved it!#the chapter titles are all like snippets of a story. or like sentence fragments that match up. which is cool #it is definitely more about being indigenous in a coloniser institution than Dragon School - not Super dragon heavy if you want that #I suspect the subsequent books will get into that when she gets big enough to ride and stuff #t’s also def YA! i’ve seen a few ppl assume it’s adult and be like its very young :( but like. I mean its perfectly reasonable for a 15yo m #definitely a Lot of racism and colonialism which is not fun to read! though it's still through a YA lens. there was def a part of me that #was imagining consequences of the narrative as if it were an adult novel #on that line of thought - at the end a lot of it is kind of solved by them going to the king and he's is like. oh no racism is happening?#that's bad i'll deal with those people! which felt like. a little simplistic. but maybe the easiest way to end the narrative for book 1 -#I don't think the author ACTUALLY is going to portray the king as a Good Guy throughout the series - it just felt conveniently like -#a simple YA solution to some very big and complex elements? if that makes sense? (but again - it is YA so it's allowed I suppose!)#some of the worldbuilding (like all the science learning) is probably setup for next books - we don’t really see any practical application #the romances are also subtle and not Overbearing In Book One which i like - leave some space for the series!#also her getting fanmail from a 10yo mixed race girl who looks up to her 🥺#anyway. i really loved it!#oh also it reminded me a little of leviathan. i guess just the steampunk/time period/european culture....#To Shape A Dragon's Breath

Cause I think he would avoid it at first but you know the saying curiosity killed the cat (or bragging killed the fenton. Hey they both get brought back)

Anyway so maybe hes just online, probably tumblr or twitter, and someone is posting a summary and a link. Oh that sounds neat sure lets check it out. Maybe he lets it go to his head in classic teenager style. Sam and Tucker think it’s weird but tbh Danny needs the win.

That or hes completely disgusted by it. He is a real person not some character to be fantasised about. Sam and Tucker tease him about it but totally agree that it’s super weird and gross. I mean people aren’t actively hurting anyone but Danny doesn’t go anywhere near the internet anymore, unless it’s to game and shitpost on twitter. Bruce announces he's bringing home later in the evening. Dick sighs and immediately sets about helping Alfred with the date night to-do list: securing the family jewels, making sure there's nothing incriminating lying about to report to the papers, and placing extra security around the secret entrances to the Batcave.

When they arrive back at the manor, his date seems really charming and sweet. This only furthers Dick's suspension. Considering Bruce's track record, there has to be something amiss about them, right? He's proud to see Bruce dating, but he also decides to find out everything he can about this person before there are any surprises.

Shockingly, he doesn't find anything. No former ties to an assassination organization or criminal records. Hell, he doesn't find so much as a spot on their driving record.

"They're good. Unfortunately, I'm better," he whispers to no one in particular, still tapping away at the Batcomputer.
