“ . . . at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory." <— And this addle-brained old man is President? Worse yet, he wants to be re-elected? If you’re wondering why America is falling apart, start right here!

Hi, big fan of your fics. I've just found your Tumblr and binged everything Icemav-related. When reading about Icemav's political beliefs, I've gotten curious. Does Bradley share the same political beliefs as Ice (and Mav)? Does being raised by them or them pulling his papers influence how he votes? Or there are other factors in the play (e.g. generations, social media)? How about Jake and the other Daggers? How does this young generation of the Navy perceive politics (elections, gender, etc.)? My apologies for bombarding you with questions. But as a non-American, American politics have always been something we must pay attention to. I've seen many interesting interpretations on Tumblr but it feels more or less wistful than realistic, but I might be wrong (again not an American) so I would love to see your perspective on this. Thank you.
a good politics roundup post before i leave this blog
icemav & their conservatism: here, here, here
ice’s NECESSARY conservatism as commander of the pacific fleet (i.e. officers who are most likely to get promoted to the highest ranks do NOT break the service line when it comes to domestic politics, so by necessity ice would’ve had to keep his mouth shut, he Cannot be both a four-star and a revolutionary, like he just can’t; and being a revolutionary is otherwise antithetical to his character anyway): here, here.
and the original “ice & mav politics post” which is being updated here: here
I’ve gone back and forth on everyones politics over the last year of me being involved with these characters, but let me just tell you where I’ve ended up headcanoning them politically, if ur interested
ice: reagan democrat. “educated moderate” who was more right-leaning pre-9/11. now just a regular ol liberal (did you SEE those gay little round glasses in tgm? no way this guy isn’t a straight-up lib) with absolutely no strong feelings about most domestic politics besides “fascism bad”. Has some foreign policy opinions that areeeee questionable at best, like all members of the military elite (hangman voice: DO NOT ASK ICEMAN ABOUT CHINA. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE). foreign policy neoliberal favoring the dovish side of the spectrum. A force conservator (“let’s save our military assets [read: my boyfriend maverick 🥺] for when we really need them, not for any old conflict. the deterring specter of the American war machine should outweigh the risk of underperforming”). He’s in favor of marriage equality of course, but treats it like a privilege and not a right. would be sad/upset if it got repealed but wouldn’t necessarily fight for it. “well at least my marriage will always be legal in california so i just won’t leave, problem solved.” Normie median Biden voter.
mav: political wildcard tbh. original 1986 mav is DEFINITELY right-leaning (i think i’ve written elsewhere, “he fully believes bill clinton is an affront to god”). i get young republican vibes from him. Full on patriotic (but dispassionate) 1980s reaganite anti-commie neoconservative. but after the 2010s i am very confused tbh. Tom cruise’s political aura is an insanely confusing one. idk. No matter what, Mav has some Hot Takes that a.) can immediately be shot down by ice using Facts and Logic at any time and b.) are not strictly partisan. He’s registered democrat just to support marriage equality (his marriage is his top priority but he doesn’t care about Other gays’ marriages, only his own), doesn’t care about any of the party’s other lines. Votes however ice tells him to. I get real “kind clueless libertarian” vibes from 2022 maverick tbh. Especially with the “isolating himself in a hangar in the middle of the mojave desert.” that has a political connotation to it for sure. bro just does whatever he wants out there
also, ice & mav live in San Diego, which… while in blue/democrat leaning California…is famously a bastion of right-wingers & has a hitler particle level off the charts… (sorry its not my favorite place in the world). That’s why they’re both continually so disgusted by San Francisco (a metonym for effete liberal homosexuality). Theyre from San Diego, hatred of SF & liberal SF politics is kinda par for the course down there.
Bradley: as u will see in the extras i definitely hc Bradley as an activist, but because he’s… in the navy and also like in his 30s… It’s not college campus activism, it’s just “things all of us in the left wing can agree upon” activism. so, like, BLM or pride, etc. He’s an “in this house we believe” yard sign liberal. He is 38 years old. hes a solid millennial so not politically hip with the kids (me)
Bradley & ice/mav disagree on the VISIBILITY of politics. Ice & mav, who did live through the vietnam era draft/near-dissolution of American society in the 60s and 70s, are not in favor of possibly losing their job/honor they have fought and killed for, for the sake of a political statement. And they believe their relationship IS a political statement, whereas Bradley would rather encourage them to treat their relationship like, I don’t know, a relationship that has a right to exist independent of politics!
Jake and the other daggers: idk. i don’t really give a shit about the daggers sorry. They r blank slates 2 me. jake especially is canonically frat-boy sexist in a way that gives me the heebs, much like original 1986 maverick and ice. But the navy tends to be the most left-wing (or thought of as left wing in common thought) service of the military, if that helps. But it is also the most traditional service of the military, and by traditional I mean BRITISH!!!! 🇬🇧💂there’s so much pomp and circumstance and hoity-toitiness that comes from the navy’s origins in the Royal Navy. A lot of sticking to outdated tradition in the very fabric of the navy itself, while the navy’s enlisted demographics shift younger and more left-wing/“revolutionary…” some interesting conflicts there. Like that one sailor who got blasted by multiple congressmen on social media for (with permission!) reading a poem about their queer identity on the USS Gerald ford’s intercom a few months back, if I remember correctly. Hoo boy the Takes that day were wild. Younger Americans tend to be more liberal but YMMV with officers, who are by nature trying to uphold outdated traditions of the navy for the sake of keeping the navy a unified service
i am of course writing carole as a christian republican who has gay friends and a gay kid not by choice but by the Grace of God
#i realize some terminology in this post is so hyperamericanspecific that you may need to Google it#like the in this house we believe yard sign#it’s… like… i can’t even describe it. it’s a kind of well meaning liberal who can sometimes be a little cringe.#and Reagan democrats (which ice is) are a whole political subgroup in and of themselves#maybe not Reagan democrat but like conservadem? but no that’s different too#blue dog democrat? but not sure he’s that conservative#THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAS BECOME SUCH A BIG TENT POST TRUMP THERE ARE 50.000 TYPES OF DEMOCRAT YOU CAN BE#san francisco as a metonym for effete liberal homosexuality of course (it’s where im from 😎😎)#it’s a ten hour drive from SF to San diego like they might as well be different countries. san diego secede from the US when 🙏🏽#pete maverick mitchell#tom iceman kazansky#top gun#icemav#top gun maverick#jake hangman seresin#bradley rooster bradshaw#normie median biden voter ice#the navy is liberalizing but veeeeery slowly#most of the conservative pressure ive seen towards the navy is external! policymakers & budget drafters etc#the navy is very liberal BUT that makes it a laughingstock among conservatives!#so a desire from higher-ups to push the Navy more conservative to be taken seriously…is kinda understandable#when being taken seriously means more ships more capability more money etc#instead of GOP culture-war-pilled pennypinchers going ‘hey why are we givin the gay service so much money’#take this post with a grain of salt. i have never been old enough to vote in a federal election.

I was wondering if you think things would have gone differently for McCarthy if he had immediately shut down the Biden impeachment idea, what with no evidence and all? Personally if I was in congress and saw someone willing to go to such lengths to try to court just a few extremists/crazies in their own party, I’d be super worried about what they would demand next from him
No, because he was 100% in a no-win situation of his own making. He bent over backward to appease the crazies by bringing the "impeachment" investigation, which instantly proved to be a total disaster exposing the complete absence of any actual evidence and was seen as such by everyone, including Fox. Because McCarthy sold his soul to get the job in the first place by pandering to the most extremist elements of the GOP House caucus, he willingly agreed to the situation where just one loony would be able to introduce a motion to vacate him -- which, uh, is exactly what just happened. This was a ticking time bomb, and it's extremely hard to feel bad that it went off. Chekhov's Matt Gaetz, or something.
Basically, Kevin was damned-if-he-did, damned-if-he-didn't. He enraged Democrats by bringing the sham impeachment and by going on TV and blaming them (as he continues to do even now) for "not wanting to pass" the budget deal, when they were the only reason the government didn't shut down. He had repeatedly lied to them, kissed up to Trump, and otherwise been profoundly untrustworthy. He didn't have enough spine or character to shut down the impeachment business, and even if he had, he would have been even more compromised in the eyes of the far-right lunatics (blah blah "Hiding The Truth About Biden's Crimez And Working With Democrats To Stop It!"). Who indeed would have tried to remove him on that alone. This was all completely predictable and unavoidable from the moment he sold every single scrap of principle or customary House rule just to futilely attempt to appease the worst people alive, get his paws on the gavel for barely 9 months, and accomplish literally nothing, thus to go down in flames as a literal first-in-history laughingstock. Hope it was worth it, Kev!

KP/William & Kate’s credibility and integrity are being questioned right now. They’re unreliable. Currently a laughingstock worldwide. There’s an editorial cartoon of William puppeting a cardboard cutout of Kate. People are saying the photo was a “jigsaw” and there’s actually no real photo. They need to work really hard to get their trustworthiness back. I’m surprised a lot of people here don’t seem to see this and are brushing this off as nothing. My guess is they’d have to go back to having those dreadful photocalls to be able to prove that they’re real. I hope they know how much they messed up because if they don’t fix it, things are gonna get worse for them.
KateGate is the only thing happening in the news right now. All the attention is amplified because there's nothing to distract us. And by us, I mean, literally US. The US. Most of the content and talk about Kate is being driven by the Americans.
There's no Barbenheimer entertainment juggernaut driving pop culture. There's no Titan submersible catastrophe. The shock of Ukraine and Gaza have worn off. The Biden v Trump showdown hasn't kicked in yet and even then, it's a redux of 2020 and we're still exhausted by that. March Madness hasn't started. Harry hasn't thrown a tantrum. There isn't a new COVID variant. North Korea hasn't fired any missiles. China hasn't launched any new spy balloons. Kate hasn't come back to work.
We have to wait and see what happens when there's real competing news. If KP remains in the news while there's other stuff happening, then there's a real problem. But that hasn't happened yet. We don't know what kind of legs this thing has.
"Wait and see" isn't a pro-KP argument. It's the way the media and pop culture works. Everyone tunnel-visions onto one thing - good or bad - until something else comes along. We're just in a holding pattern waiting for something else.
For me, it's no use getting upset or worried or anxious. We're still in the same media cycle. If, let's say, there's a sudden unexpected celebrity death like Kobe or the first week of March Madness is berserk (as it sometimes is) and KateGate is still the dominating news story, then I'll start worrying.

Joe Biden appeared to wander off at the G7 summit in Italy, with officials needing to pull him back to focus. As world leaders applauded a parachuting presentation, Biden could be seen trailing off and stepping away from the group, appearing to talk to an officer packing a bag. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who is hosting the meeting of world leaders, then pulls back the US president to get his attention so he can rejoin his fellow world leaders.

Have you seen the influx of female leftists saying they will not be voting for Kamala but will be voting third party? I asked a woman what the solution is in this election, she said to vote third party, i raised my concerns about abortion and anti-lgb legislation if Trump were to take office and her response was "we are privileged and deserve to lose access to abortion rights and gay marriage if it means we could get an anti imperialist candidate in the future if third party gets enough funding, abortion is not important" and i am baffled. i have intense fears of pregnancy and would probably end my life if i became pregnant. i never want children. forced birthing disgusts me and i don't want women to carry children they don't want to term. Abortion is on the ballot for my state this year :( What do you think this will all culminate in to?
I don't know. I'm not from/in the USA so I don't have insider knowledge. And even if I did, I couldn't say. When Trump initially ran in the primaries for the 2012 election he was a laughingstock (we shall overcomb!). When he ran in the primaries again for 2016 I thought for sure he'd be laughed out again...but he wasn't. Still, I thought surely he was too ridiculous and outrageous to win against Clinton, but then as the campaign wore on, well...
I just don't know. I'm hopeful. I'm hoping everyone who couldn't bear to vote for Biden will vote for Harris in addition to those who would have. I hope enough people who voted for Trump the first time and have been screwed over will vote Democrat.
After all, my aunt, who was a lifelong Republican voter instead voted for Obama in his second term. Her husband, also a lifelong Republican voter, angrily and grudgingly voted for Clinton against Trump. Because he hated Clinton but he hated Trump more. Since swinging their votes they've been voting Democrat for federal elections ever since. So I'm hoping there will be more people who do that.
Honestly, project 2025 scares the shit out of me for the worldwide environmental implications and for the social implications on the people in the USA. Not to mention the supreme court decision about presidential acts.
I guess what I can say is, for everyone around the world, stock up on staple foods while you can and learn your local edible weeds and bugs. If you have a garden, grow hardy edible plants, or edible plants that it's easy to save seeds from. Within reason, certain medicinal uses of plants would be good to know too. And I'd also say try to get some things in order in case you have to flee.
As for pregnancy specifically in the States, maybe it's time to insist on no PIV or he gets a vasectomy at least until things are better? I know that doesn't help in the case of rape, forcible or coercive, but it would not be selfish of you to insist on that boundary with an intimate partner. Maybe set some money aside just in case. Abortion in Canada is expensive without a provincial healthcard but it is perfectly legal. Delete period-tracking apps, though, in case your states tracks that.

Trump is gonna turn himself in, but it's gonna be on his own terms. He'll fly to New York in a private jet and be escorted to the courthouse in a motorcade flanked by secret service, rhen have his PR people set up a podium outside so he can deliver a campaign speech after he's released later that day. They won't hold him for any length of time, not even overnight, just catch and release.
Ron Desantis is making a big deal about how Florida will refuse to extradite him to New York, but that's just because he knows it'll never come to that and he doesn't want to lay a hand against the leader of his party. He's absolutely not going to run for president in 2024 because he knows he'll lose the nomination in a landslide, and if he says anything bad about Trump the party will crucify him (10 Republicans voted to impeach Trump in 2021, all but 2 lost re-election in 2022; 2 of the 7 senators who voted to convict chose not to run for re-election at all because they didn't think they could win their primaries, and 1 resigned).
Desantis is biding his time to run in 2028 once Trump is out of the picture, either term limited or disgraced for having cost R's the White House again. His refusal to extradite is pointless because Trump doesn't want to be arrested. He doesn't want there to be a standoff, he doesn't want the feds to get involved, he doesn't want to be dragged away in handcuffs for resisting. If he turns himself in, he controls the narrative. If he resists and Desantis helps him, the hammer will come down even harder and he'll embarass himself.
I mean, either way he's gonna act like a martyr, but it would hurt his strongman image if he was manhandled by feds on camera. Like that photo of General MacArthur and the Emperor of Japan, or the video of Richard Spencer getting punched in the face, being arrested would make Trump look weak. His base consists of about a third of the country, maybe 40%, but that's not enough to win in 2024 anymore than it was in 2020, especially not after all of his handpicked Secretary of State stooges lost in 2022. If he's arrested, he'll be seen as an even bigger national laughingstock than he already is, and the the other 60% of voters will flock away from him and towards Biden's Big Tent coalition. Republicans will probably sweep the Senate because of an unfavorable map, but the White House is theirs to lose.
TLDR: Trump will go quietly to save face, then get his ass kicked in 2024 because his base isn't growing

We are semi-inclined to write [Robert F.] Kennedy [Jr.] off as irrelevant as [Marianne] Williamson but for one thing. Suppose he and Williamson want to debate and get some media outlet, most likely Fox News, to sponsor it. The outlet then invites Biden to join and he naturally declines, for fear of giving the other two massive free publicity. So they debate with a cardboard cutout of Biden on stage. Would either of them get enough delegates to hurt Biden? Well, the Democrats use proportional representation in their primaries, so if RFK Jr. got 10% of the votes (from Democrats who think Biden is too old), he would have a few hundred supporters as the Democratic National Convention. They could make a fuss that Fox News would report as "Democrats in disarray, as usual." It could happen. The best case scenario for the Democrats is that RFK Jr. gets a really serious case of COVID while campaigning, becomes a laughingstock, and is sidelined for months.

he caused a great deal of our current problems including the inability to declare bankruptcy on student loans, but pretending he cared about fixing those problems. he wiggled his way into presidency by pure happenstance of having been a VP pick by a better(albeit still evil) president to satisfy conservatives, and managed to accordingly trick people in later years that he'd always been left-leaning and not famously so conservative he was barely even a democrat, and even with that he was going to lose so they had to convince almost all the democratic candidates ahead of him to drop out. he was no one's first choice. and then he became president and proceeded to not do anything he ever promised to do (par for the course) but made sure that the thing he would be known for, is genocide. boots on the ground genocide now. even nixon had attempted to force israel's hand to declare a ceasefire on a non-genocidal, actual war that he deemed was going too far with the yom kippur war, by refusing to help - and that was only stopped when israel threatened nuclear weapons if they did not comply. even nixon tried to get israel under control, and for lesser reasons, than biden. biden has not only let genocide in israel continue unabated, but as of now, and the reason why i made this post- is that the stupid fucking pier they decided to make brought "aid" that had US soldiers hidden inside it, and they helped massacre 200 palestinians in a refugee camp.
i cannot comprehend this 'lesser evil' people still spout. this man is going to go down in the history books as one of our most evil, most inept, most damaging presidents.
edit: seems like its possible rather than it being a matter of us soldiers on the ground it may have been just the US working with israel considering it's their pier. i've seen both reports on twitter. i'm no journalist and this is tumblr, use your own brains
but every idiot going "oh but other presidents--" biden is uniquely obsessive about israel and the genocide in gaza is uniquely supported by this specific president, who has ensured this will be his legacy. that's why I mentioned nixon. even nixon was different in his approach to israel. there is nothing else biden will ever be known for than causing problems decades prior then giving empty promises to fix them now, being a laughingstock when he gets up to the podium, and genocide. many evil politicians, like obama, were at least charismatic or had something they championed (ACA for obama, even if it was a half-measure, for instance). biden is one of the presidents who does not have that. what sets him apart as a president is being old, being incompetent(or unwilling) to stop growing instability, and most of all - genocide. sucking israel's cock in a way never seen before even among our worst, most bloodthirsty presidents. He is not THE worst. but he is one of them. reagan, nixon, and bush may be ahead of him, but he is incredibly high up the list. if you argue with this you do not value palestinian lives, sorry.
also voteblues just get blocked so stop bothering
yeah no biden is going to go down as one of the most evil pieces of shit we had as president for absolute sure

and this list is just a small sample of the nightmare that is joe biden let me add a few.
defunding of the police
defunding the military
defunding and handcuffing ICE
illegal immigrants let into the country unvetted
wars in Ukraine and Israel
giving iran previously frozen funds which in turn goes to funding terrorist groups such as hammas
completing a sentence
having top secret files dating back to his time in the senate and not being arrested
climbing stairs without falling
remembering who the leaders of other countries are
drugs flowing through our open boarders in record amounts killing our citizens
80 billion dollars of military equipment left in Afghanistan that is now in the hands of terrorists
leaving all the afghani people who helped us throughout the war that were promised asylum only to be jailed or murdered by the taliban
being a puppet for a democrat party full of crooks and extremists who are destroying our country.
weaponizing the DOJ, FBI and our justice system
making this country weak and the laughingstock of the world
I could go on for hours about bidens accomplishments.
joe biden is a incompetent criminal who should never have been allowed to hold any office no less be president of the USA.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have destroyed this country from within in 4 short years .
- Wide open border with millions pouring in. - Horrible economy. - out of control crime (with over 6000 precincts not reporting crime data to the FBI to fudge the numbers.) - Loan rates the highest in years. - Groceries through the roof. - Gas has doubled or tripled since Trump. - We're on the brink of WWIII. - completely shutdown our own energy independence. - We're the laughingstock of the world. - Communists lawfare on their political opponents. - 100s of Billions to illegals and Ukraine and nothing to our own citizens. - Warrantless spying on citizens. - activist judges throwing political opponents in jail over nothing. - Election interference and cheating in every way possible.
What's Kamala and the Democrat party's answer to this disaster?
… "You're weird." 😂
