racquet vs racket - what's the difference?
in the books people play exy with 'racquets' — sometimes in posts and stories, people will spell it as 'racket' instead. they're the same thing in concept, but i'm curious if people make a distinction between the words out loud!
feel free to describe how u say them in the tags!!
for me: racquet - ra-KET [ɹæ'ket], word stress is on the 2nd syllable. (this stems from the british pronunciation of racquet, which i mentally associate with this spelling)
racket - RA-kit ['ɹækıt], word stress is on the 1st syllable. (said with the a sound in 'apple')

Fun fact! 'Funny cross stitch' is the 16ᵗʰ most common tag given to cross-stitch listings on Etsy (right after 'pdf cross stitch' and before 'cute cross stitch'). But how many of those patterns are actually funny? What's the average humor level? And which among them is the funniest? I think it's time we found out!
Click Here* [2024 UPDATE: now here!] to cast your vote on any of 997 different 'funny' cross-stitch patterns, all randomly scraped from Etsy throughout the year, and check back later this month for the results!

Hey, everyone! A friend of a friend is working on a master's thesis and wanted opinions from people who play TTRPGs on the topic of archives and archivists. If you've got ten minutes, jump on this link and answer some quick questions.

As my following grows and as I meet more and more people who have rats, had rats, know someone who has/had rats, and love rats...
increasingly I wonder if/when a day will come... a day that I'll express rat enjoyment to someone and they'll enthusiastically ask me if I've heard of This Funnie Little Rodent Blog they like, figuring I may already know it or will enjoy it if not...
and it's.. my blog... and then I have to come out as popular Rat Tumblr blogger that they follow and now know IRL.......
#/lh#I'm saying this like it's some big deal but I'm just exaggerating for comedic effect adjfgsbkdfj#no idea what the likelihood on that looks like. based on statistics of people estimating statistics? probably likelier than we all think#anyway that time I posted a survey for a university research project here and you all wound up comprising 2/3 of our sample was so funny#I had to actually say in an academic research paper that one possible flaw in our study#was bias that may result from 2/3 the sample having come from a niche and extremely specific demographic of people#due to the fact that they flocked in from One Of The Researchers' Substantial Online Following Centered Around A Particular Theme#And Selected Specifically To Have Only A Certain Kind Of Person On It Via Boundaries And Blocking#literally you all made up 98/150 respondents (but that's assuming all digital responses were from y'all-- we had 52 paper responses)#ah but the research symposium was the best. in the paper I was able to remain that generic about it#but at the research symposium. well it's a glorified science fair. so participants have their own stations set up and observers tour them#as the participants speak to their audience; directly providing a summary and then answering any questions#some of the audience/observers are faculty and most are fellow students#so real scholarly scientific types yeah? so they had questions. thoughtful questions#long story short I confessed to numerous listeners throughout the day that the sample's bizarre gender ratio is probably my fault#around 57% women; 21% nonbinary adults; 17% men-- an unusual proportion#so I had to academically tell my professors... underclassmen..... my classmates....... acquaintances.... foes..........#... that I'm big famous in Rat#and it was so. djkjSBCJXHQKRIGAJFSHF

omg the bias changing ME TOO IM SO CONFLICTED when i first got into twice tzuyu caught my attention but after getting into them mina become my bias but now i feel like it changed to sana after a while BUT RECENTLY I FEEL LIKE JTS MOMO but also nayeon omds its so hard
UGH NO I GET IT I REALLY DO!! especially when it comes to Momo (and Nayeon! and Tzuyu! and Sana! and-)
ever since the promotions for HYOLO started, Jihyo captured my attention more and more & I was OBSESSED w her when ZONE finally came out over the summer. I thought I would chill out but my #3 song on Spotify is still Don't Wanna Go Back.
and then she VOLUNTARILY went on I Live Alone twice recently and-- *stumbling, falling* Jihyo replacing her own light fixtures? Jihyo driving with one arm? Jihyo snowboarding while filming? Jihyo working out? Jihyo??????????????
like I love Dahyun so much, I love her goofy sense of humor and her shy, serious/songwriting side. She is the queen of privacy and I respect her so much for it but there's something about Jihyo wanting to show ONCEs more of her life (though I know it's curated) that really makes me!!!!!!!!!!!! you know!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont know!!! i need a-- Dahyolo? Dahyun solo? to see how i rly feel about them both
but also how lucky are we to stan a group that has so many lovable members that we can't make up our minds 😭 i love them all...

Thousands of people in pain are urging the Drug Enforcement Administration to scrap plans to further reduce the supply of opioid medication in 2024.
The DEA recently announced it would cut production quotas for oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine and other opioids for the 8th straight year, despite complaints from pain patients and healthcare providers that the medications are already in short supply and difficult to get at pharmacies.
The DEA invited people to comment on its plans in the Federal Register. Over 2,400 have so far – many with heart breaking stories to share about not being able to get the pain medication they need.
“I was finally able to establish a reasonable pain management routine but that was disrupted when my regular pharmacy was no longer able to supply my medication (a moderate dose of Norco) and not a single other pharmacy was willing/able to fill my prescription,” said Jessica Ericksen. “One pharmacy supervisor screamed at my doctor on the phone when he called in to try to get my prescription set up with them. I now have a 1.5 hour round trip drive to get my medication, which is particularly challenging for a disabled person who is unable to drive.” “I am one of the many that has had my life destroyed by the government regulations on pain meds. I haven't been able to get my medications for the better part of a year,” said Paula Perry. “I'm now basically bedridden and praying for death. Stop doing this to people, we are dying and you guys make it worse every year.”
“Most of us in pain have gone through all of the other drugs to treat our pain and these are the drugs of last resort. The opioids don't totally treat our pain but allow us to function,” said Heather Larson. “The DEA needs to stop playing doctor and let the doctor decide what is right to prescribe. If production is cut anymore, people will commit suicide or go to the street for pain medication.” “I have already had to jump through numerous hoops just to be prescribed my meds, but now have to call pharmacy after pharmacy monthly to find my meds, because they are out of stock at every pharmacy around me in a 10-mile radius,” said Jill Bartruff, who suffers from scoliosis. “I also had a surgery in September 2023 and could not find a pharmacy to fill my post op pain meds. I was in immense pain and was unable to advocate for myself to get my meds filled. Imagine being cut open and discharged from the hospital with no pain control.”
“Why do you continue to cut supply when legitimate patients cannot obtain their medications? Many are already out of their meds for weeks on end,” an anonymous poster wrote. “You should be able to see you're making the situation worse.” Are you a U.S. pain patient with an opioid prescription? Please take a few minutes to complete PNN’s survey on how opioid shortages are impacting pain care. It will help us document how serious the problem is. Click here to take the survey. (Read rest of article at link up top)
I've taken the survey, it's a few minutes long and easy enough.

my fob hot take is that so much for stardust is a great album but fans are ranking it so highly partially due to recency bias. i still think folie is the most interesting / complex album both musically and lyrically
hmm feel kinda mixed on this one like. i’m sure to an extent it could be recency bias but also like. there’s only so long you can call it recency bias till it’s just like. yeah the album is just that good fndjfn yk? like so many things w music it really comes down to personal taste like. i really do think smfs is That good that its their best and the more time has gone on since it came out the more i’ve felt that way! for others it could def be a recency bias thing though!

people on tumblr dot com talking about reblogging for a larger sample size have never taken an introductory stats class … yes, larger sample size means more representative sample. no, larger sample size does not mean less bias. no matter how large your sample is everything will be extremely skewed because tumblr users are more often queer, nd, whatever your poll is asking about, etc etc compared to whole population

the right way….??? what does this mean to you??? everyone deserves the cards they have in life no matter what? very interested to hear what you mean
I was taught how to hide properly through years of doing so on a daily. Through the fear brought by being caught.
I'm recently learning that some people were just told how to, instead of having to go through the process of trial and error. When someone holds your hand through the learning process, studies have shown that they make more mistakes when doing it on their own than someone who learned on their own.
The basics seem more like rules to them rather than necessities for completing the task, like someone who learned through trial and error will have engraved in their minds from coming upon the errors themselves.
I learned the right way. I won't be making mistakes for the two hedgehogs to catch onto. This has nothing to do with deserving cards in life.

"Nowhere else does science like this" you mean unscientifically?
Excuse you, that 'how do you draw a star' poll is one of the most scientifically valid poll designs I've seen on tumblr
That's good data right there

idk if this is anything, but for those who had/have a Newsies phase and/or hyperfixation:
also important disclaimer because i have no idea how many people could possibly end up seeing this: to my core i dislike being noticed more than necessary, it just so happens that to my core i also want answers to questions that for some reason i've never seen asked. one of these won after a weeks long fight to the death, don't make me regret it.
What? you're still here? anyway i'm considering doing another one about newsies and actual involvement in unionization efforts, because that probably says more about the impact of media than this, but we're starting from square one on the fight between the different parts of my brain. so even if you want it...don't count on it for at least a couple of weeks
