Spoilers for Khaos Reigns and Sektor and Noob’s tower endings.

Initially, I was really annoyed with the way their tower endings seemed to shit on Liu Kang’s plan to keep Bi-Han safe while he learns the ways of Havik’s magic to restore him. But Sektor cooperating with Quan Chi (and taking Bi-Han from the Temple of the Elements) might be what introduces Sareena to the story properly, and actually results in Bi-Han being redeemed. Despite the fact that neither he nor Sektor seems to care about that anymore.

RIP Sektor if he ends up with Sareena romantically, though (restored or not) because she’s obviously in love with him. And aside from their weird forehead press moment, there is no way it’s mutual.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think Khaos Reigns was pretty terrible and maybe I’m just grasping . But I need to have hope for not just the future of the character, but the series.

EDIT: Because fuck me, I just watched a compilation of BiSektor intros and I guess it is mutual. I am trying to make peace with the ship, and will. But ngl, initial reaction was not good. 🫠

Oooh this might be a controversial take (for the bireena community maybe) but I feel like I need to get it off my chest

I don’t ship sekhan, I feel like that is completely obvious, but-

I didn’t want bireena in khaos reigns either (even before it came out and sekhan became canon)

At most, I wanted them to meet, try to kill each other maybe, have no choice but to team up, and then leave off on a cliffhanger on what the future could hold. LIKE that was it. No romance yet, maybe not even an official friendship, just obscurity to set up their future.

I feel like we’re still at a point where Bi-Han needs to make a lot of personal growth first. The last thing I want him doing is putting his nasty unredeemed hands anywhere near my precious SAREEEENNNAAAA!! If they were to interact at any point in future games or kombat packs, I want the focus to be on redeeming the two (mostly bi-han) cause at the end of the day, I am a Bi-Han fan first, bireena fan second. I will even take it if they just end up as friends if that means he can finally redeem himself and not go down the constant path of evil and being someone’s side-kick.

From my time on twitter I’ve noticed the constant need of some bireena fans to attack sekhan and complain that we didn’t get bireena, which is fair they’re allowed to do that, but I think that’s genuinely the wrong way to look at this whole situation. I mean, if you wanna think in context to how Bi-han acts/ presents himself in this timeline, I actually think he and sektor make perfect sense. He doesn’t like people disagreeing with him and sektor is basically the embodiment of an enabler/ loyalist. OF COURSE, he’d be down for that (which is not to say I like sektor’s writing either, I wanted her to betray Bi-Han and push her own image onto the Lin Kuei). But I think the point of putting him with her (though I don’t want to give NRS any writing credit yet) is to show how messed up his mind is and how he goes for the wrong methods to get what he wants (like liu kang said).

I know we shouldn’t exactly take the Johnny cage announcer voice as canon but I feel like everyone is missing the “future” part in “bi-Han’s future bestie”. They still haven’t even officially met if you don’t count him kicking nitara’s ass at the Ying fortress. If they had gotten together in khaos reigns it would’ve been just as bad and poorly written as sekhan. If you wanna attack sekhan and call it forced because her entire story revolves around a man then you need to also keep in mind that if Sareena had been written as a romantic interest to Bi-Han in khaos reigns it would be the exact same thing. Sareena still has her own soul to redeem and her own past to confront. The last thing she needs is to be with a man that has all the mental maturity of a group of middle schoolers who frequent Hot Topic.

(This portion is my own headcanoning and how I want them to meet, I’ll mark where it ends)

As stated before, I think the main priority should be Bi-Han and Sareena focusing on their redemption arcs if they are to interact with each other in the future. Bi-Han needs to see the error in his ways of thinking and let go of his pride. Sareena needs to see she’s more than just an underling to Quan Chi and break free from his control. If anything, I think the best way to approach this is to maybe bring up MK Mythologies again and have them meet through that. Maybe Bi-Han gets betrayed and gets stuck in the netherrealm and has no choice but to spare a life (Sareena’s) and relies on her to help him get out. That way it would teach him the value of mercy that he didn’t understand in Khaos Reigns. And from there I think in terms of Sareena’s story she sees someone with a tainted soul and feels some empathy about that. Helping him to redeem himself- to her- would be like a way of helping her understand that no soul is too far gone and she herself can be redeemed and help others.

As far as how he would act after being “redeemed” I can’t exactly tell you how I think he would act, especially since he’s not really the apologetic type. But maybe an interesting route he can take is Kuai Liang’s old role in the previous timelines. He’s seen how fa pride can take you and how destructive it is. That way he’s the perfect perspective to redo/ remodel the Lin Kuei. Kuai Liang seems too focused with the Shirai Ryu this time around so if anyone should be redeeming the Lin Kuei it should be the guy who has taken the most mental and physical damage from being a part of it. And from that little plot line, the Shirai Ryu and the Lin Kuei can make peace with each other.

Again, THIS DOESN’T HAVE TO BE ROMANTIC FOR BIREENA. I’m more than happy if they’re just friends in the end. I just want some sort of redemption and closure for them for ONCE! They’ve been subject to so much heartbreak and evil in previous timelines, they deserve better than this one dimensional writing.

I know this may all come off as hypocritical coming from me, the most frequent poster in the bireena tag 😂, but keep in mind the type of content I post. I VERY CLEARLY do not take myself or my art very seriously and most of my art is comedy based. So before you sharpen your pitchforks and sum me up as just another bireena artist, just know I draw what entertains me the most and I’m usually not serious about it.

Do I still want bireena? Or course I do. I just don’t want it NOW. I’m willing to wait- I don’t want forced/ rushed writing on a ship I’ve devoted myself to for the past year.

A Sareena Storyline I’d Die For:

I wish they’d bring Sareena back as a rock star. Like after being spared by Bi Han and finding her own way out of the NeatherRealm, she winds up in Hollywood and meets her future bestie, Johnny Cage. His agent makes her a rock star. She gets to experience humanity and true happiness. She keeps her true self hidden from her fans and the world out of fear of rejection but when it revealed she’s shocked that her fans and friends still love her. Yes, her being a demon does cause a lot of controversy and some do hate but the ones that matter are loyal to her. It beautifully reaffirms Sareena’s faith in humanity and earthrealm.

Unless we've been cruelly teased, the story is paving the way for a Bi-Han redemption arc and I'm all-in. It may just be hinted at for now and not actually happen until next DLC/next game. Shelving him so early on would be a mistake, IMO. I also think there are existing dialogues that imply it as well. Johnny Cage announcer calling Kameo Sareena "Bi-Han's Future Bestie" definitely implies they have, well, a FUTURE together, and that she will likely be a key factor in his redemption. Unsure if it'll be romantic future or not. I’m cool, either way.

However, this whole thing presents some issues. If Bi-Han regains his cryomancy and takes up the title of Sub-Zero once more, that removes Noob from the narrative unless his lore is changed. IE: Noob separates wholly into two entities, one being restored Bi-Han and another being his corrupted self. And then his corrupted self has its own even more corrupted 'hold my beer' self???

But if Bi-Han stays Noob, albeit a reformed, free of his curse version, that leaves us without a Sub-Zero. And it would be so weird to make it Kuai Liang in this universe. Because that would ~drumroll~ remove Scorpion from the timeline. So there's obviously gonna be some character musical chairs. Some people are convinced Hanzo will be the new Sub-Zero, thus completing the Freaky Friday action between him and Kuai Liang.

Others have suggested Frost will be the roster cryomancer going forward, which just seems like a really good way to shit on her popularity even more. I like her, but I do feel like she's an acquired taste and a lot of fans won't take kindly to her ascending like that (although there is that Shao/Bi-Han dialogue where Shao warns him that Frost means to eclipse him...)

My ideal but wholly unrealistic and way too self indulgent outcome would probably be Bi-Han remaining Noob and keeping his chaos/shadow powers but regaining his overwhelming good looks. And I am aware how shallow this makes me sound. But there have been some really great alt type versions of characters. I know I lost my shit in the best way when MK9 gave us human Cyrax and Sektor. MK9 human Cyrax is the very best version of that character, period.

Still, it seems like this is going to be an instance where no matter what choice is made, a certain (and quite possibly large) portion of the fan base are going to be disappointed and alienated.

I really need to get over this. I mean, I love extra crispy Kabal. I can learn to love Noob.

About the Bi-Han x Sareena thing...

Were they cannon or fanon? Because the only thing I remember about their "relationship" is that Bi-Han saved her, and she automatically started seeing him as her perfect knight in shining armor because of this. I've always thought that Sarena was delusional and it was an one-sided thing.

Now everyone is getting happy about the line "Bi-Han's future bestie" and I'm just standing here confused about how is this going to work in this timeline since Ashra was the one to save Sareena now and apparently they're on Liu Kang's side.

The only memories I have about MK games are from my childhood when I used to watch my dad playing the games and I really don't remember seeing Sareena and Bi-Han interacting after Mythologies. I'm just 20 and I haven't played many MK games... I'm genuinely asking for oficial lore, I don't mean to offend anyone! I'm just confused and curious about this weird... ship?

Do you believe we might get Sareena and Bi-Han interactions in a future game(s)? I don't want to be a complete delulu, but it's the "Bi-Han's future bestie" line that haunts me. I think it might mean something, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a *sigh* reference.

Oh I'm fine with being delulu. It's not just the Bi-Han's future bestie line for me. It's also:

Smoke telling Ashrah that Sareena wants to train with them.

Ashrah telling Kuai Liang that Bi-Han can be redeemed.

Syzoth telling Ashrah that he's worried Sareena is falling back into evil--if Sareena is hanging out with the Wu Shi, Kuai Liang and Smoke all day, who is tempting her back to evil?

Bi-Han. Her 'future bestie' and the only 'evil' person in Earthrealm. Who Ashrah believes can be redeemed.

If we get Sareena DLC (I still think we will), my hope is that we get Bi-Han trying to convince Sareena to come to the Lin Kuei, because in his opinion, she jumped from letting Quan Chi decide her fate to letting Ashrah decide her fate.

I do think Sareena would still have the most voice lines with Ashrah, Smoke, Kuai Liang, Bi-Han, Nitara and Havik. Her voice lines with Ashrah and Kuai Liang will reference Bi-Han redemption, her voicelines with Nitara and Havik will reference her time with them and Quan Chi, and her lines with Smoke will probably be friendly and maybe reference the Enenra again. I think Johnny and Kung Lao will try to flirt with her, too, and she nicely shoots them down.

Girl I am not just connecting dots, I am coloring them in. I am full delulu about this. realistically... nrs does not like Bireena and it might just be a reference. But what if I'm right. Oooh boy.

Surprisingly realistic portrayal of c-ptsd and dissociative disorder considering all of the above. Half of the couple that rewired my brain chemistry and gave me unrealistic expectations for romance -_-

My beloved snake boy!! He goes as a hostage to a foreign land at eleven years old in order to maintain uneasy peace between his country and the empire that colonized them (and on that note, his initial language struggle was so good), then he manages to help keep his love interest safe from thousands of kilometers away via peerless potions skills, then he goes and *wins his nation's freedom* via martial might and court negotiations, and then he heals his man and gets him home. Like bulletpoint by bulletpoint I think he might have actually managed to accomplish the most out of the cast by the end. (Qi Ye is a palace intrigue novel btw, so it's amazing that the one character who had zero patience with palace intrigue was the one who accomplished so much lmao.) And all this while being a 20-something borderline-yandere ML obsessed with his first love. What a man. What a legend. Not to mention his epic healer skills were the reason Zhou Zishu survives Faraway Wanderers. Wenzhou get their happy ending because of him! Also, he hand-raised the most lovable animal sidekick of all time (sable!!!!!) before said sable defected to his husband. Vote for Wu Xi to make sable happy.
