while i wouldnt necessarily disagree that childe seems to be on edge more so than usual (and he himself mentions being in a poor mood in act I) in the fontaine archon quest i do have to say i find it a little funny that theres people who think hes behaving, like, completely out of character in the court scene when he decides to go apeshit after being judged guilty by the justice.exe AI bot like.
did it somehow escape peoples memories that this man when presented with the idea that we as the traveler mightve tricked and gotten ahead of him with the geo gnosis just. entered a state of complete murderous rage leading to him activating foul legacy in the golden house. which actually ends up self-sabotaging his current objective more than anything bc unlike the clear way they struggled against childe before now the traveler just won by default by outlasting him
he mightve gotten over it fairly easily afterwards (in no small part bc traveler actually fought him which automatically translates to equal=respect=friend in his fucked up head) but childes been shown to be a highly dangerous individual with a massive ego prone to outburst in the heat of the moment when outplayed or his pride wounded before even when it isnt the smartest course of action like. this isnt new lmao.
getting accused of a crime he had never even heard of in a foreign nation he only recently arrived in and then sitting through all that court drama and being assured afterwards that he only needs to partake as a mere formality for declaring his innocence only to be somehow declared guilty by a machine is very much realistic grounds for childes patience to reach its breaking point if you ask me lol

One of the worst things to experience is when people are bitching about a character and it's like "I get where you're coming from however you're being completely and utterly unsympathetic to their situation and thought process." Of which you have gone through something near identical of. And you just have to sit there getting secondhand rsd.

#suggesting that teams cut vets for the “growth of the game” as a “business decision” to make way for college kids with millions of followers#is CERTIFIABLE#that is one of the most batshit takes i have ever heard in my entire life#to say that no one tunes in for them [and then specifically calling out dt and bg] is so beyond fucked up#“because the young kids are just as good” is literally false#most rookies don't make the cut because people already on the teams are better than them#saying you'd rather make the product worse for the sake of dollars and eyeballs is crazy#saying that the olds should just r*tire and go away and get desk positions in the league because they aren't popular anymore#again is so beyond fucked up. like who do you think kept the league around for 20 years?#it sure as fuck wasn't c****** C****#and coincidentally just now when they're finally making money when they are finally on the verge of a decent cba you want them out#not because they can't play at that level but because YOU think other people will bring more eyes is SO DISTASTEFUL#ur account isn't even big enough to justify the kind of rage bait that this is#it is so disrespectful to everyone who made the game the way it is#and if you don't think dt and bg individually and together aren't entertaining to watch they you've never watched the mercury#who do you think changed the way the women's game was played?#this “take” is so dismissive and ageist#and even if you didn't namedrop them it's hard for this not to feel pointed#i'm going to need to do a word search after this#if you've seen the video i speak of i am so sorry you had to endure that#i should have stopped watching after like 10 seconds

There’s one trope I really love, and it pretty much only shows up in books written by or geared towards guys: training montages. I love watching a loser gradually build up to someone with a fighting chance. You don’t see that as much in books written by women, if ever.

I'm thinking again on the fact that so often comments, criticism and readings on Jack dwell a lot on how he is barely human/a person/doesn't have a personality at the point of the story and, while I somewhat understand these points, I find them so lacking. I find them... ableist? I'm always doubtful to use the word here because I'm not sure if it's applied in this kind (mental health) of context, but something like that. And I find them extremely simplistic.
However, honestly, a big part of the reason for these readings being so popular is that the manga itself words it that way. But that's one of the problems I find in the manga. When I say P.andora Hear.ts is very good but unfortunately it is very manga-like at times, besides the 2000s homojokes and the like, I'm usually thinking about things like this. I feel like often characters and situations that are (potentially) very intricate instead of getting insightful deep overviews often get screwed by the writing itself, which falls into very manga tropes a lot in a bad way (not that every manga has to fall into them, or that every manga trope has to be bad or written badly).
I don't know... For instance, I'd argue R.askolnikov's capacity for love in Cr.ime and Punishmen.t is debatable, but it's never treated as if it made him less of a person, a human being or made him not have a personality. I'd say not even Svidrigailo.v, who is as much a Bad Guy™ as a character can be, gets that treatment by the writing. I'd say that even him or Mikol.ka are written as fully fleshed human beings with their intricate internal lives and feelings. Svidrig.ailov's last scene with D.unya is fascinating for both characters and spins the whole dynamic and makes you question the entire narrative and veracity of not only those two characters, but brings to mind several other conversations among different characters and throws light (and doubt!) on the main plot between R.askolnikov and Porf.iry.
In similar situations, Jack's humanity, personhood and personality are debated, doubted and even full on accepted as vanished. No one reads Crim.e and Punishmen.t and comes to the same conclusions about Raskolni.kov, Svidrig.ailov, Sony.a or Razu.mikhin. The writing doesn't allow it. The writing doesn't allow you to forget that humanity is diverse and multifaceted, that it can be sad and cruel and loving and monstrous, even all at the same time, or that a person may struggle with feeling at all; and one is still a person.
#This honestly is one of the things if not The Thing that frustrates me the most of P.H#I've seen this kind of 'that's not a person/human/doesn't have a personality anymore' readings with The S.tranger by Camu.s#And they were imo also simplistic (and that's coming from someone who didn't like the book)#They were also made by my Ethics professor in college who was from the O.pus De.i#Anyway this is a post because I imagined I wouldn't be able to fit everything in the tags#I should probably delete this later#but I wanted to get it out of my system first. I've been thinking about this a lot again after reading the guides and I got angry again#I don't think manga as a medium necessarily has to treat characters this way#but there's often a big simplification of characters in general in a particular flavour#And I think Jack (arguably Vincent too) suffers from this. The exact same thing happening with Jack could be written slightly differently#and cease to have that shonen manga for edgy teens flavour it gets in like two pages#that doesn't ruin but definitely stains a 104 chapters characterisation that was so well crafted#(especially given most fans take everything at face value without thinking much about anything like vacuum cleaners of text)#I don't know. Despite how this manga is a lot about humanity being able to exist or take place#beyond the conditions of one's existence being “fake” through our actions and relationships with others‚ ourselves and the world‚#I don't like how characters like Jack are treated in that context#I understand why it's done and what it's trying to say‚ the Jack/O.z foil is super interesting in that regard. I don't even think#the writing fully falls into the mistake of 'thinking' Jack is not human/a person. But I find very unfortunate some of the writing choices#when dwelling on this‚ and even so distasteful at times#And as a consequence many fans just take the slippery slope and make a cardboard mimicry out of some great characters#But the manga/writing concedes a bit with that angsty teen air. And it's frustrating#I talk too much#Trying to pseudocensor words for the first time#to see if this way my 4am soliloquies won't appear in the tags of people just living their lives#Tumblr please let me rant about nothingness that interests only me without disturbing anyone please#I'm already mad I can't tag these at all anymore in my own blog for organisational reasons without them appearing for everyone everywhere

Dear Lady Yagokoro,
I know it's been a long time since we've talked! Everything has been pretty wild since I left the Moon, and I'm sure you've been having an interesting time of it as well. Things are so loud and exciting here! There's new things to learn and see every day. I've been trying to see as many new things as I can, but it's been a bit hard. It's been so fun!
I've also been (gag) making some Earth friends. (That's a joke, the gagging part. They're actually really neat. Trust me.) I wish you could meet them, I think they'd have some interesting things to say, especially about you. The Capital always talked about attachments to Earthlings and impurity would be something that would cause the ruin of us all, but. It's not too bad, really. I wish I had learnt this earlier. It would've been great.
Have you seen Sister recently? I don't know if she's made it to Earth yet, but if she has it would be great if you could tell me. I kinda miss her, you know? It would be nice to see her again. I know she'd be kinda meany and grumpy about living on Earth, I know she's not really a great fan of the Earthlings, but. I wasn't either when I first got here, so I think she'll notice how cool it is here eventually. I know that I did, so I think there's hope for her yet.
Hope I can see you soon!
As always, your faithful student, ▚▜ (But the Earthlings call me Peaches!)
P.S: I'm happy for you and the Princess! I hope you two are doing well together!
To my cherished student and Pr-
Forgive me. If the 'Earthlings' call you such, then perhaps it would be remiss of me to not also categorise myself as one.
Dear Peaches, Has it truly been so long? For an eternity is barely a blink of an eye but…yet, in some way, the Earth truly dilates one's eyes to a clock that is so slowed yet so full of wonder. Perhaps in the way that the moonlight causes it's own affliction of lunacy, so too the Earth- though I wouldn't call such thing 'impurity'.
Tumblr media
Yes, there's much merriment to be had. I myself find myself studying horticulture, the Earth feels so much more familiar but so much more vast when I can need only glance outside to find and discover a new herb or plant, or one that I've become acquainted with. Tewi has requested I try to cultivate a golden apple tree- apparently some likened them to peaches, but I feel her reasoning is far more…down-to-earth shall we say.
I'm delighted you've made some friends upon Earth, I know isolation, especially with the vast distance in brainwaves between Lunarians can be a challenge… The moon…it's desolate, powerful, perfect. But here- it's a whirlwind of creation. Different ideas, people, scientific reactions, drinks, foods- even if Gensokyou is a slice of what was forgotten…I do truly wonder what the Outside World is like. Impurity was always framed as 'sin', but perhaps it was change.
There's a patron that visits me, a celestial. She's rather fond of peaches (the fruit) themselves. She doesn't have any ailments, if anything- she purchases poisons or spices that intentionally make her feel pain. That the life she lived in Heaven, with nothing but endless 'joy', was it's own form of a boring, insufferable Hell. Perhaps you'll meet her soon.
Tumblr media
As for Yorihime…I'm not too sure myself. Though, there has been a recent incident where powers have been duplicated, and it's caused quite a bit of upset among some Gods…fufu, I can only imagine how any Lunarian would react if they found out their untouchable power was mocked and commercialised, though I couldn't help but think of her relationship to the Gods. I would entice her but…let's just say the envelopes I float to the mood get torn asunder before they can reach it's surface. But I have hope for her. After all…with enough time in the equation, a nigh impossibility…becomes a certainty. All I can do is hope that her time entwines itself with yours and mine.
Tumblr media
Thank you for such a wonderful letter, and please do stop by anytime. Kaguya, Reisen and the Earth's rabbits would be delighted to see you again.
Sincerest Regards, Eirin Yagokoro

Disliking online communist/leftists might be my strongest American trait, to be honest. But then again, I dislike them as much as I dislike the far right. Both are extremists who believe in acceleration. They both fantasize about some fanatic blood thirsty revolution/rebellion taking form to punish those who do not adhere to their ideology, but they don't ever imagine themselves partaking in that revolution/rebellion, but as a spectator from afar in the comforting bosom of their middle class lifestyle (which they imagine will still miraculously exist), far, far away from the political turmoil as the poor, who they've always seen as violent and animalistic, even if in a noble savage sort of way, throw themselves into the meat grinder. The left wants to bring about the current world orders downfall because it's "fascist." They don't look at the alternatives (Russia, the CCP, or Jihadists/terrorists organizations, all of whom are currently vying for power in their respective regions or the millions of people currently suffering under their regimes and the millions of more who will suffer if they should ever rise to such dominance) nor do they hold as much vitriol for these countries/organizations or hold them to the same standards they hold America and the West to. Some even root for them, even in light of what's happened in the past two years (especially in regards to Russia).
The far right wants to bring about the downfall of the current world order because it's to "liberal" or "progressive." There's to many people of color, to many immigrants, to many gay people and pronouns, the modern western woman is to promiscuous and fat and liberal, "look at what they took from you" they say, while looking at some 1960s propaganda slop of a world that didn't truly exist beyond a brush stroke. They to want Russia and the CCP and the Jihadists to come to rise, but not because they view these groups as beacons of progressivism and liberation as the leftists do, but because they view them as the opposite. The far right looks at Russia and sees a white Christian ethnostate going against the globohomo world order, they see the CCP as a conservative homogeneous ethnostate going against the globohomo world order, they see the Jihadists as a radical ultra religious group going against the globohomo world order.
In so many ways, the horseshoe theory is real because both sides see these groups and project upon them their ideologies and beliefs irregardless if these groups actually hold these ideologies and beliefs, and salivate at the thought of these groups rising to prominence to "own the libs". Most of these people are white and so I suppose that's why I have a hard time caring about their political grievances with America or the West, because I am not white and if they do get their way and see the downfall of America and the West we all know who'll be the first to go and it's not them :)

oh brotherrrrrr nobody cares about reading all that i just wanted you to tag your hate and stop playing ship police. there’s no one “given” way to interpret batcat esp because comics are not the only medium for them unlike bt. people are likelier to see batcat as “endgame” (whatever that means) because some people ship them in the coming reevesverse or the nolanverse or they engage with other works where bruce doesn’t have 10 billion other love interests like the comics. there are just too many interpretations of batcat for you to pigeonhole their dynamics in any which way and they will continue to shift and change as decades pass. as for the wedding, many newcomers were disappointed about the way it was handled and that’s just natural considering the way it was set up. anybody else would be just as upset by such a thing occurring for their own ship. not that serious for you to be ranting about how batcat fans don’t understand their ship when most of them are just joking around about endgames and they do know the ship is never going to be together forever. even clois doesn’t have that guarantee in comics. hopefully you’ll stop writing 5 page essays on here and twitter now.
it's absurd to get so pissy over an ask the wording of which i had no control over 😭 and you're the one not censoring here so this will end up in the tag again (i tried to copy-paste this into my askbox and censor on my own but for some reason when i tried half of your ask got cut off because of a character limit. maybe it's a desktop thing). whenever i talk about bc otherwise (and there are plenty of times i do because i enjoy their relationship) i censor the ship precisely because i don't want to end up in the tags. this has been my consistent practice for everything since i moved here. the fact that one (1) post inadvertently ended up in the tag because an anon forgot to censor and it incited this relentless of an interrogation from you is ridiculous. it's not ship hate to analyze the reductive way in which people engage with dc love interests at large or the way that core tenets of female characters by their creators have been obscured over time due to the evolving priorities of writers or the restrictive nature of adaptations. would it be ship hate to discuss how levitz wrote a bc marriage in the 70s only to kill selina within the same comic so that her imaginary daughter figure could be propped up for the next decade at the expense of any development or further introspection for her? why is it ship hate when someone analyzes the misogynist reduction and obscurity enacted upon her in narrative due to her relationship with bruce but it's not ship hate when someone logically (and rightfully) does the same thing with talia?
i don't mind you being upset that my earlier ask ended up in the tag and i'm sure after this if anyone does send an ask they'll censor it. but from the way you addressed me thereafter it's clear you've been either following me or keeping tabs on me for a long time and frankly i'm confused as to why. this is the thing that baffles me about the people who repeatedly continue to harass me here. the nature of my analysis hasn't changed in well over a year. i nitpick about dc love interests' development and writing in comics a lot. whether that's with regards to talia, selina, kory, barbara, etc. this is because before anything else i'm invested in female characters and their development within a medium largely dominated by male creators. if that mode of analysis is something bothersome or even hateful to you you have every right to block me. it would afford you a lot more peace and i would encourage it

i need you all to watch this because i took slightly more wary/incredulous options re: necromancy in my second playthrough and got the single most amazing dialogue in emmrich's romance:
emmrich: there are mysteries past our comprehension. something beyond the weft of magic or deepest fade. emmrich: when i'm fortunate, i spy suggestions of them here. rook: i do find the necropolis exciting—creepy! weird and creepy! emmrich: you astound me, rook. you have a distaste for the dead, the undead and necromancy. and yet... rook: where's this heading? emmrich: there's no shame in a little attraction to the forbidden, my darling. rook: pfft! what? like i want you to throw me over one of those fancy graves with skulls and flowers and floating spirits, and— and... rook: (clears throat) you're lucky i like you. emmrich: undoubtedly.
torn between second-hand embarrassement for rook digging his own grave (no pun intended) vs the hilarity of emmrich's knowing look i'm—
