2020 Reads
I’ll tell you right away, this list is not very long. With college, Covid, and the overarching stress of it all, I didn’t end up reading as much as I wanted to, but the books I did read were amazing. Throughout this year, even though the list is short, these books were with me when I needed them the most.
In no particular order, the books I read this year:
Little Prince-Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Gifted to me by my tennis coach the year I graduated and absolutely adorable. I read this in an hour, and it meant the world to me. The best gift a person can give me is a book they loved.
Ninth House-Leigh Bardugo
Dark academia meets the supernatural in one of my favorite stories ever. I loved the aesthetic of this book, and it made me want to be a dramatic Yale student with secret society ties, regardless of how dangerous it seemed. I can’t wait to see what happens next, especially with that ending.
Sky in the Deep-Adrienne Young
A reread of the best Viking book by one of my favorite authors. This was an Owlcrate book quite a while ago, and one that I read with one of my best friends. We loved it.
The Gravity of Us-Phil Stamper
NASA and YA. It can’t get much better. The cutest book. This was an amazing way to start the year. Phil Stamper’s storytelling is beautiful, and I didn’t ever want to put this book down, or for it to end.
The Starless Sea-Erin Morgenstern
Erin Morgenstern will never fail to amaze me. I loved every page of this book, and finished it crying at midnight (I think during finals week of spring semester, which adds to the emotional trauma of it all). There was so much happening in this story, and I need to read it three more times to catch all of the little details I missed, and to live in the world a little longer.
Speak-Laurie Halse Anderson
Another reread of one of my most favorite books. I remember reading this in my high school book club for the first time, and wondering why I never read it sooner. This was a phenomenal story, and such a realistic portrayal of life.
The Witcher: The Last Wish-Andrzej Sapkowski
Watched the show and had to read the books. I didn’t love the book as much as the show (something about how the female characters were written…), but I did enjoy the story.
Love, Creekwood-Becky Albertalli
The best novella to end the year with. This book made me so happy. I loved the relationships, the friendships, and how much it made me think of my friends, the amazing people I have in my life.

QOTD: “They said, in dusty little towns around the country, that witches could turn into balls of fire and fly through the air”. 🏚 “Mexican Gothic” ~By Silvia Moreno- Garcia ~ An eerie, mysterious, petrifying, spine-chilling yet glamorous novel. 🥶 ~ “Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno- Garcia has been the most anticipated book of 2020. This book has also won Goodreads Choice Awards. It’s one of the most trending and reviewed book on Instagram. ~ When you watch a horror movie, there’s a lot to it- music, characters, effects, location etc. When you read a haunted novel, it all depends on the writers ability to keep readers engrossed with words. I am amazed at how descriptive this book is, Silvia Moreno- Garcia has so beautifully written this novel, as a reader I was terrified and thrilled. 😱👻 ~ This story is about Noemi Taboada, a glamorous young girl from Mexico City. When Noemi receives a letter from her newly wed cousin Catalina from High Place, begging to be rescued from a mysterious doom, it is clear to Noemi that her cousin is in danger and she sets out her mission to rescue her cousin from her mysterious husband. Noemi’s stay at High Place is filled with unusual, terrifying, paranormal activities. 😳 ~ I loved the writing, exceptional! I loved the characters, I loved the balance of glamour and bizarre. My favourite characters are definitely Noemi and Francis. 🙌 ~ I’d rate this book 4.2/5. ⭐️ If you’re in mood for a new-age haunted Novel, pick this one up! #mexicangothic #silviamorenogarcia #gothicbooks #hauntednovel #horrorstories #horrorbookstagram #horrorbooks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagramindia #bookstagrammerindia #bibliophile #bestbooksof2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/CNW-TMrrD6t/?igshid=1d7lq8rg32o8b

#toptenlibri #bestof2020 #bookstagram #bestbooksof2020 #giuntieditore #hopeedizioni #delraiedizioni #rizzolilibri #jpopmanga #lightnovel #garzantilibri #newtoncompton #deagostini #triskell #nerdcomicsg #bookmarksarereadersbestfriends https://www.instagram.com/p/CJTpa0RHbeG/?igshid=88d0r5ujfy5k

I finished two amazing books today! Zee by the incredible @sujsokol and Scorpipn Scheme by the incomparable @melissa.yuaninnes Zee was an amazing novel all about the nature of gender and family. It made me examine my own notion of what makes up a family and what gender really is. Its poetic writing took me right into Zee's world and I wanted to hug them tightly and let them know everything would be okay. I *heart* this book and will now look at the alphabet in a different way. Scorpion Scheme was flat out incredible. Set against the sands of Egypt, Dr. Hope Sze and her fiance Dr. John Tucker go to Egypt and hope to see the sights, but they are drawn into a fight for their lives and a mysterious treasure. I loved this book so much! I was drawn into Hope's adventure and taken on a thrill ride that came to an explosive conclusion. This is a fantastic book and really made me take a deeper look into the idea of justice, what is right and what is wrong. Both books have made it onto my Best Books of 2020 list! #bestof2020 #bestbooksof2020 #zee #sujsokol #drhopesze #melissayi #greatbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CJEoEp_HKIU/?igshid=1as3k79mwzu8k

ARC Review: The Lake House by Christie Barlow!
Oh my gosh, folks! This right here is definitely a new fav of mine! Sooo good. It just got better and better with every turn of the page! For starters, lovely cover art! And although this is apparently part of a series, that I have never read before this, I still managed to understand everything very well. It was basically a stand alone novel in its own right and I loved it from front cover, to…

Top 15 Reads of 2020
As of Monday, December 14, these are my Top Reads of 2020. These are the books I gave 5 stars to throughout the year. There may be more books I give five stars to by the time the actual end of the month actually gets here.
Most of the books in this list were written by BIPOC writers, with only 2 by white authors.

💬What was your favourite #lgbtq🌈 read this year? Mine was technically a listen! The audiobook of #aliceisntdead read by @jasikaistrycurious was fantastic. I already have plans to listen to the podcast and buy the book! The story of truck driver Keisha and her travels across the US seeking her wife Alice ticks all my boxes, it’s scary, it’s sad, it’s daft, it’s compelling listen. I loved it. #bestbooksof2020 #nightvalepresents #audiobooks #bookstagram #booklover #booknerd #spookyreads #creepyreads #booksofig #booksofig📚📚📚 #mustread #mustlisten #lgbtqreads #goodreads https://www.instagram.com/p/CIeCXfigRnz/?igshid=1sb4j1fyzh4hx

Book Review: Dear Emmie Blue Thank you @atriabooks and @netgalley for my advance copy. . This is one of my favorite books from 2020 so far and I cannot recommend it enough. 16 years old Emmie stood in the fields of her school and released a red balloon with a tag containing her name, email id, and a secret. Weeks later, on a beach in France, Lucas Moreau found the balloon and immediately emailed on the attached address and this kick-started the friendship between the two of them. Now, fourteen years later Emmie is hiding the fact that she is in love with him and hopes and patiently wait for him to admit his feelings to her but she finds out that he is getting married to someone else. The author has touched and highlighted so many crucial topics like family, love, dreams, career, and past experiences and have dealt with each one of them so well. The execution of the story is so good. While reading this book I was in love with Emmie. I wanted to protect her and was rooting for her to find happiness and her happily ever after. I felt all kinds of emotions while reading this book. The end of this book is so perfect. There are so many other things I want to mention in this review but I don't want to spoil it for others. Read it and you will love it to the core. . . . #dearemmieblue #lialouise #atriabooks #netgalley #dearemmieblue🎈 #dearemmiebluereview #bookreview #bookreviews #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreview #books #bestbooksof2020 #reading #readingtime #readingnook #readingisfundamental #readingisfun #booksbooksbooks #booksconnectus #booklover #bookstagram #booksofinstagram (at Stay At Home) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDiYfiEArEG/?igshid=1fbhx9kxr71b2

If you read 1 book this year - this is it 🌟 I don’t possess the words to truly describe the impact of The Midnight Library by @mattzhaig 📚💫 nor can I thank him enough for bringing this book to life. In a year and a world, presently devoid of hope for so very many, the pages of this novel cast a bright light. I reorganized a bookshelf to put this at eye level so that even if I don’t re-read it, I will be reminded of the message every time I see the cover. Yes, it is fiction. And yes, it’s life-changing and incredibly powerful. The absolute must-read of this year. ********** #bestbooksof2020 #bookstagram #readstagram #livrestagram #libros📚 #suicidepreventionmonth #fantasybooks #recommendedreading #septemberbookchallenge #matthaig #bookreviews #readmorebooks #fictionbooks #readingislife #hopeforthefuture (at Saint Augustine, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFZ9NIbgmBv/?igshid=fl9krii1umr

Maid ~ Stephanie Land
Maid ~ Stephanie Land
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rating: 5/5
I love Maid. This book, from a young, single mother, takes a deep dive into how easy it is to fall onto hard times in America, and how long it takes to crawl out of that situation. Land is genuine, and conveys emotions in such a beautiful way. Her story is not uncommon, nor is it original. Instead, she writes about it from a place of willingness to share.
One of my early jobs…

✨Favorite Reads of 2020 #1✨ . Hi, guys! Just when I was determined about changing my bookstagram theme into something slightly retro (the vibe is just impeccable), I decided against it at the last minute. 😅 Truth be told, I haven’t felt like myself recently mainly due to COVID-19; I know very well that we’re all in this together but for some reasons, I simply can’t bring myself to enjoy the bookish moments I used to enjoy. 😕 . To look on the bright side, I did read some of my favorite books in my life this year so I’d like to start a new section of my feed called “Favorite Reads of 2020” (DUH), and hopefully, you’ll get to discover new authors like I do! . FEATHER by Olivia Wildenstein @olives21 is a heartbreakingly beautiful retelling of Romeo and Juliet and I can’t get enough of Jarod and Leah. The angels and their world in this book are perfectly vivid, making me want to live in Elysium, too. 💓 . On top of that, Olivia is such an angel herself because she’s donating paperbacks of this book in EVERY. MAY. BOX. of @baecrate !!!!! *squeeeeeee* The theme is Out of This World and you’ll get 2 books in a new series PLUS a copy of FEATHER. Seriously, what else could you possibly ask for?!?!! I’ve been eyeing Bae Crate for a while and I’m so glad I have an amazing excuse to finally snag one.😂 . P.S. For everyone who ordered a box, you can email Olivia to receive the pictured art print of Jarod and Leah as well as a signed book plate. Check out her latest post for more info!💜 . All in all, go read this book or better yet, just grab yourself a May box for all the promised goodies and this book!! You can thank me later. 😉 . #bookstagram #bookish #booklove #booklovers #bookboxes #baecrate #oliviawildenstein #paranormalromance #mustread #feather #angels #romeoandjuliet #retellings #bookishart #bookmarks #booksleeves #springreads #bestbooksof2020 #bookrecs #readersofinstagram #supportindieauthors #bookreviews https://www.instagram.com/p/B-RT9_NgReB/?igshid=17t9hm6r1nkku
