The Nanny
Summary:
Everything was going well for you. A good paying job, just graduated with your masters in child psychology and development along with your teaching certificate. Things seemed to be on the up and up until your boyfriend’s ego go in the way. Before you knew it you were living with your mom again in your childhood bedroom. You decided that rather than wallow in self pity, you’d put your degree to some use only that seemed to be harder than you thought. At the end of your rope you decided to look at the private ads and answered one for a single working father with two daughters. That turned out to be one of the best decisions you ever made.
Chapter 3: Level
All he wanted was for things to go smoothly. Was that too much to ask for? Apparently so. First, Nanami got sick so he couldn't watch the girls. Then his morning interviews canceled on him because he changed the venue last minute, and to put the rotten cherry on top of the melted sundae, the girls were throwing hissy fits because he wouldn’t let them wear their princess costumes in public. Great. He looked at his smartwatch and practically had a heart attack. It was 12:25 pm and he was nowhere near ready.
“FUCK!” He internally screamed, “Fuck it. They’re wearing clothes. We gotta go.” Suguru took a deep breath, “Okay, you two can be princesses today. Can you be big girls and get your bags together for papa?”
The twins instantly stopped crying and nodded their heads as they wiped their eyes.
“Good.” He smiled, “I’ll be back to check on you in a little bit.”
“Okay, papa!” The girls chorused as they began looking through their toys.
He spun on his heels and practically ran to his room. This was one of the few times he was cursing himself for not laying out his clothes the night before. Granted, he thought he’d have more time. He grabbed the first thing he saw, a teal polo and black slacks. Easy enough. He threw his hair up into his usual style and ran to go check on the girls. To his surprise, they were all packed and ready to go.
“Good job, girls!” He beamed at them, “I am so proud of you.”
The twins returned his smile with toothy ones of their own. He helped them with their shoes before sliding on his own. Before he stood, he looked at the girls and smiled, “Who wants to race papa to the car?” His eyes darted playfully between them.
“Me! Me!” They shouted and jumped as they waved their little arms in excitement. This was a game he knew they loved to play. It was really a tactic to get them to the car as fast as possible or they’d end up distracted by something in the yard. He locked the door behind him. He looked to Mimiko on his left and Nanako on his right.
“One.” He began.
Nanako began to bounce, “Two,” she continued.
“Three!” Mimiko shouted.
The girl's laughter rang out as they took off towards the car. Of course Suguru let the girl get ahead of him as he checked the time again — 12:45 pm.
“I won! I won!” Mimiko shouted as she touched the shiny black door of the vehicle.
“I’ll win next time!” Nanako said as she slowed down to a stop.
“You’re really fast, Mimiko. You too, Nanako.” Suguru said as he jogged up behind them attempting to keep up the act.
“Thanks, papa!” They smiled at him.
His heart couldn’t take it. They were adorable in their costumes and matching braids. While they could be a handful at times, he wouldn’t give up his girls for the world.
———
You gave your mom a peck on the cheek, “Thanks, mom! Love you!” You said in a hurry as you hopped out of the car. You didn’t give her a chance to respond as you shut the door and hurried towards the meeting spot. You dug your phone out of your purse to see that you had two messages from Suguru.
“Hello Y/N. I’m really sorry but I’m running behind. I have to bring my girls with me.” Read the messages.
You perked up. You didn’t feel as bad for running behind and you’d have the opportunity to meet his little ones! You weren’t sure how far behind he was running but it was better than him canceling all together. Your nerves began to spike. You began to fidget with the silver ring around your right ring finger.
“What if his kids don’t like me? If I want this gig then they have to like me, right?” You thought as you looked for a place to sit, still subconsciously messing with the ring on your finger, “I mean would he even bother to hire someone that his kids don’t like? Maybe qualifications matter more? Or what if he doesn’t like me?” Your heart sank, “Would he hire someone he doesn’t like but his kids do or—”
“Y/N?” You heard a baritone voice call.
You whipped around to see a tall well built man with long black hair that fell just above his waist. You noted that his teal polo complemented his violet eyes. His black slacks were neatly pressed and loafers were hardly worn. It was clear that even though this was a weekend he still took pride in how he looked.
“Papa! She’s pretty! Who is she?” You heard a little voice say.
Your attention shifted to the two girls on either side of him wearing princess costumes. They were adorable! Pink and purple princess costumes and matching tiaras. One was blonde and the other had chocolate brown hair. You thought it was strange that they looked nothing like their father but genetics were weird like that.
You crouched down to meet the girls on their level, “I’m nowhere as pretty as you two! You’re the prettiest princesses I’ve ever met! I’m Y/N. Who are the princesses that grace my presence?” You looked between them.
“I’m Princess Nanako.” The blond one said with her chest puffed out proudly.
“And I’m Princess Mimiko.” The brown haired one said with a slight bow.
You smiled warmly at them, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Princess Nanako and Princess Mimiko.” You bowed your head slightly.
“Alright, girls. Go and play. I’ll be right here with Ms. Y/N, okay?” Suguru said as he ushered them towards the play area.
“Okay, Papa!” They chorused.
You looked after them for a moment as they bantered back and forth running to the playground before turning your attention to Suguru, “It’s nice to finally meet you, Mr. Geto.” You bowed respectfully.
He smiled warmly and returned your gesture, “I can say the same, Ms. Y/N.” He sheepishly rubbed his neck, “Thank you for playing along with the girls. They refused to change this morning and as a parent, I’ve learned to pick my battles.”
You chuckled and nodded in agreement, “Yeah. One thing I’ve learned by working with kids is compromise.”
The two of you took a seat close by so Suguru could keep an eye on the girls as the two of you talked. He asked the typical questions about your education and history. You answered in kind and elaborated on things that needed clarification.
“What made you want to work with kids?” He asked.
With no hesitation you answered, “In high school I was a part of a mentorship program. I thought I would hate it but I ended up loving it. I loved hanging out and having fun with the kids and teaching them things. I realized then that I love working with kids and want to help them be the best they can be.”
Suguru was silent for a moment before he nodded his head. With every answer you gave and your clear passion for children he began to like you more and more. He felt like he could trust you with the girls. He just had one last question for you, “What do you think makes a good nanny?”
“Someone who can explain things and relate to kids on their level and be just as childish and goofy as they are at times. It’s good to balance both.”
“Papa! Papa! Look what I drew!” Nanako came bounding over waving her drawing over her head.
Suguru gave you an apologetic look before turning to Nanako, “What do you have here?”
Her little smile widened, “I drew a lady! Isn’t she pretty?”
“She’s gorgeous, sweetheart.” He smiled warmly at her as he handed her drawing back.
Nanako then came running over to you, “Ms. Y/N, do you like her?” Her big brown eyes were large and hopeful.
“Like her? I love her! You did such a good job! I love her blue hair!”
Her smile grew even brighter than before, “Really! Mimiko said I should have made her hair a ‘real color’.”
You cocked your head, “But blue is a real color.”
“That’s what I said!” She looked over her shoulder at her sister who was still coloring and stuck her tongue out. Mimiko made a face but refused to engage further.
“Nanako, be nice.” Suguru warned.
“Sorry, papa…” she said with a begrudging tone.
“Hey, How bout you and your sister draw a piece together and show us when you’re done, okay?” Suguru posed.
Nanako seemed to think on the idea for a second, “I guess…” She seemed hesitant to the idea.
You furrowed your brow, “Why not? I’m sure it’ll be fun.”
“Well, Mimiko doesn’t like to draw people. She likes to draw other stuff. Like trees and junk… those are no fun.” She pouted.
“Hmm…” You crossed your arms and tapped your chin in an exaggerated manner, “Well, I think you two can still draw together.”
“How?” She asked.
“How about this — your sister could draw the background and then you could draw the people. Sound like a plan?” You watched as the gears started turning in her little head before she grinned up at you and Suguru.
“Okay! I have a really cool idea!” She turned on her heels back to her sister, “Mimiko! Mimiko! I got something we can do together!”
“She’s the leader out of the two of them isn’t she?” You asked as you turned back to Suguru.
He chuckled a bit, “What gave it away?”
You bobbed your head from side to side, “Call it a good guess.”
The two of you shared a light hearted laugh. Yeah, he was sure he liked you. He was amazed at how you engaged with her and were so sweet and complimented Nanako’s drawing. You seemed to genuinely enjoy it. He probably would have never suggested that the girls draw something together since they like different things. You made it sound like a fun project that they could do together.
Suguru cleared his throat, “So, Ms. Y/N, is there a specific salary you were looking for?”
You hadn’t thought of a concrete number… you were just looking for enough to live on your own again and pay your bills. You spat out a random number that seemed fair. You watched as Suguru pulled a small notebook and pen from his pocket. He scribbled something on it and slid it over to you. Looked at the number he’d written and almost forgot how to breathe. The number on that paper surely had to be a mistake right?
“Does that seem fair?” He asked.
You looked from him to the page and back to him, “You’re really ready to offer me this amount of money to be a nanny for your daughters?” You asked half thinking he’d change his offer.
“Is that not enough?” He reached for the notebook again.
Your hand shot out to stop him. “No! This is — this is more than enough. I’m just shocked… is all…” An embarrassed blush touched your cheeks.
“Why?” He probed.
“No one has offered me anything close to this… All my other offers were far less than this. I mean why so much?” You admitted. Deep down you didn’t think you were worth the literal quarter of a million he was offering you. Yeah, he was a rich executive but it still seemed like a bit much.
“In the case things don’t work out you’d at least have enough to get you by until you find another family to work for. Though, I would hope you’d be in it for the long haul.” He said as he leaned forward.
You stiffened like a plank of wood, “A-are you offering me the job?” You tried to keep your growing excitement from bursting out of you.
A small smile crossed his lips, “Yes, I am. Do you accept?”
“A-absolutely!” You couldn’t help but smile. You tried your best from grinning like a madman but that was becoming harder by the second.
“Great. I’ll send the moving crew in a week to get you and your things.” He said as his own smile grew.
“Wait, what? Movers?” You heard a record scratch.
His face scrunched in confusion, “Yes. You were aware that this was a live-in position, right?”
You had applied to so many positions that at some point you stopped reading them all the way. Oops… You shook your head, “Silly me, I must have let that detail slip my mind.” You laughed nervously. “I’m fine being a live-in nanny, but I do have two cats and they go where I go.” You rubbed your arm nervously.
“That’s fine.” He hunched, “I’m sure the girls would love two new furry friends.”
You felt your whole body vibrate with excitement and relief. The hunt for a new job was over and now you were onto something new.
You took the metro home rather than have your mom come and pick you up. The entire way home you were buzzing with excitement until you realized you’d have to tell your mom you were moving out again. While the circumstances of you moving back in with your mom weren’t ideal, you still enjoyed having her around as she did you. You wondered how your mom would react to you being a live-in nanny. You began to fidget with your silver ring again. Your heart broke a little as thoughts of your mom crying filled your mind. On one hand, You didn’t want to upset her with your sudden departure but, on the other hand, you were an adult and needed to be a big girl. A female voice announced your stop and you hopped off. The whole way you were going over ways to tell your mom you were moving out as you twilttled with your ring. Your body seemed to grow heavier with each step as you neared the front door.
“I’ll just have to be direct… the more I dance around the subject the worse it’ll be.” You thought as you dug for your keys. You took a deep breath as your hand wrapped around the brass door knob. You walked hoping your mom was still out and about but she was right there with a huge anticipatory smile.
“Well? How’d it go?” She bounced a little as she spoke.
“I got the job!” You pushed a smile on your face.
Your mom knew you like the back of her hand. She could tell something was up when you weren’t bouncing off the walls.
“What’s going on? I thought you’d be excited.” Her hands dropped to her sides.
You bobbed your head from side to side, “I am excited. Really! But umm…”
“‘Umm’ what, sweetie?” She prompted.
You let out a heavy sigh, “It’s a live-in position. I’m moving out but the end of the week.” You said it so fast that it sounded like a single sentence.
She was silent for a moment before busting out in laughter, “Aww, my baby,” She cooed as she shuffled towards you, “is that what you were afraid to tell me?”
“Wh — you’re not sad?” You asked absolutely befuddled.
She snorted, “I’m sad, but not heartbroken. You’re an adult. I never expected you to stay. Not forever, at least.” Your mom pressed your head against her chest in a hug.
You relaxed into her and hugged her back. You mentally kicked yourself for letting your anxiety get the better of you. You should have known that she wouldn’t break down into a sobbing mess. It wasn’t that deep.
“Sweetie, you’re just moving out again. It’s not like you’re moving countries. You can still call me and see me when you have time.” She said as she rubbed your back.
“Yeah… I guess.” You admitted in a sigh.
Your mom pulled back and held you by the shoulders at arm's length, “Thank you for considering my feelings, baby, but, you don’t need to worry about me.”
“I’ll always worry about you, mom.” You gave a soft smile.
She pinched your cheek playfully, “I know. You’re so sweet. But enough of all this.” She fanned her hands around as if to get rid of all the heaviness that still lingered in the air, “Where does my baby girl wanna go for dinner tonight?” She clasped her hands together with a loud clap.
You leaned against the coat closet as you gave it honest thought, “Well there is a hot pot place I saw earlier when you were dropping me off.”
Your mom perked up, “Oh! My friend was just telling me about that place! We’re definitely going!”
You let out a short laugh, “They have all you can eat hot pot for like $30.”
You saw stars form in your mom’s eyes. She loved good food and an even better deal, “Oh, you shouldn’t have told me that, Y/N.”
A cheeky smile crossed your lips as you hunched, “What kind of daughter would I be if I didn’t tell my mom about all the best deals?”
The next seven days were a roller coaster to say the least. Packing all your stuff again. At least this time you had more time to make sure it was packed properly and not tossed into a bag or box. Then there was working with Suguru for a plan for your cats since moving animals was stressful on both parties. There were a lot of moving pieces for you to block out again. You wished he’d given you more time to get your shit together, but he was the one calling the shots. Who were you to complain?
As you were packing more of your things from your closet something hard fell from the top shelf and fell square on your foot. You howled in pain while giving your best impression of a pogo stick. After the pain lessened to a dull throb you checked to see if you were bleeding. You were fine but fuck did that hurt.
Your eyes scanned the floor of your closet to look for what had fallen. A silver glint caught your sight. When you moved your hanging clothes out of the way you found that it was a picture frame.
“Dad?” You wondered aloud.
You picked up the frame and dusted off the glass for a clearer picture. It was your dad. He was smiling a wide toothy grin holding a little white kitten with a small tabby kitten on his head.
You laughed a little as you thought back to that day.
You and your parents were walking home and heard tiny mewls coming from somewhere. You took off to find the source of the sounds. Your parents' voices fading in the distance. It didn’t take you long to find the cause. In a cardboard box labeled ‘free kittens’ you saw two little kittens — one was all white and the other was a brown tabby with a white chest and paws.
“Aww… you poor things…” you crouched down to offer your hand.
The kittens backed away before sniffing your hand. The tabby headbutted your hand and the white one let you pet him.
Your parents had come running up behind you scaring the poor things back into their initial corner.
“Y/N!”
You didn’t bother to address them. Your focus was solely on the two abandoned kittens who were huddling in the corner of their box, “It’s okay, babies. They won’t hurt you.” You made little noises to get them to come to you again. Your parents put two and two together.
“Y/N. You’re not bringing them home. We can take them to the shelter.” Your dad said.
“Dad! Just look at them. You can’t leave these lil’ guys in the shelter.” You managed to pick them up. You turned to your parents to show them the kittens who were mewling up a storm.
“Aww! Look at ‘em, honey! They’re so little!” Your mom cooed as she began to pet the tabby.
“No! We don’t need pets! We work and you,” he said gesturing to you, “Have school! We don’t have time.” He huffed.
“I’ll make time. You and mom always made time for me when I was little, so why can’t I do the same for these little guys?” You said nuzzling them.
“No.” He was firm in his refusal.
“Aww, come on, honey. Just hold one.” Your mom said.
“Yeah, dad, hold one!” You practically shoved the kittens in his hands.
“W — Wha — Now — ” Before he could finish his thought he was holding two fuzzy kittens in his arms. The little white one was content in his arms but the Tabby had other plans. He climbed your dad’s shirt and used his claws to grab onto his baseball cap. When he was square on top of your dad’s head, he decided to loaf there. It all happened so fast that you and your mom were just staring in shock. You were certain that your dad was going to hold firm in his objection to keeping the kittens. Your heart sank for a moment before he burst out in a fit of laughter.
Your mom snapped that photo on her phone while she had the chance. You walked over and took the small tabby kitten off of his head and scratched his little head. He purred heavily in your hands.
“What should we name them, kitten?” He asked you.
“Huh? Oh, well, uh…” You stuttered, “Wait, we can keep them?” You smiled hopefully at your dad.
He nodded, “I wouldn’t ask you for a name if I had no intention of keeping them.”
You looked down at the little tabby in your arms, “Why not call this one Mochi? He looks like chocolate mochi, doesn’t he?”
Your dad nodded, “I think Mochi is a fine name for him.”
“I think we should name this little fella, Shiro.” Your mom posed as she gave the white kitten head scratches.
“He looks more like a Yuki to me, mom.” The kitten seemed to purr harder and lean into your scratches more when you mentioned the name Yuki.
Your dad laughed, “I think he likes Yuki better, love.”
Your mom huffed, “Sure, whatever.”
Since then, Mochi and Yuki were yours.
You ran a thumb against the embossing of the silver frame, “I know, dad. I’m bringing you with me. I could never leave you.” You walked over to an open box you had on your bed and placed the picture inside before taping it shut.

It happens on the fourth day of the second week of the VNL. Akane Yamamoto finally gets the chance to interview Iwaizumi in person, who is happy to speak with her again and compliments her about her new role as a sports journalist at the renowned television network.
The interview flows in an engaging and even fun manner. All the questions focus on JNT, the most problematic players he has encountered, his routines, and his professional future with the team. Iwaizumi laughs at a few responses, and Akane really enjoys the conversation.
Then, Hajime's smartwatch starts to vibrate remembering the meeting with the technical team and the coach.
Akane apologizes and asks for just five more minutes, which Iwaizumi happily grants, postponing the alarm. She quickly reviews her notebook, sighing in relief when there is only one last question left to ask. She then looks up at the athletic trainer again, her smile widening.
"Iwaizumi-sensei, there is one last thing all the viewers want to know before we say goodbye and wish you the best of luck for the match against Poland. Since today is your birthday, what would be the perfect gift for you?" she asks, directing the microphone towards Iwaizumi.
Akane hopes he will respond with something as cool as winning today's match or securing first place in the tournament. Or perhaps he will simply wish for health and a bright future for the JNT. Or maybe he'll ask for a raise for being the professional babysitter of the monster generation. Or he might just laugh, unsure of what to wish for.
What Akane doesn't expect is for Iwaizumi to smile warmly and soft, his gaze fixed beyond her, and then to gesture in that direction with his chin.
"That."
In a flash, both Akane and the camera held by her cameraman swiftly turn around.
Near the billboards, just a few meters away, Oikawa Tooru is kneeling in front of a little girl no older than ten, scribbling on a towel resting on his thigh. He looks radiant, his hair tousled from his recent victory over Germany, his blue shirt clinging to his broad torso like a second skin, his new compression sleeves wrapping around his chiseled muscles of his arms, and his knee pads now resting at his ankles.
He smiles genuinely at whatever the little girl is enthusiastically telling him, oblivious to the camera and Hajime's gaze. When he finishes signing the towel, he hands it to her, and she squeals with delight, proudly showing it to her mother before giving Oikawa a high five and saying goodbye.
As Tooru stands up, a shy young boy approaches him, holding a volleyball under his arm and a black marker in his hand. And Oikawa greets him with the same genuine happiness as before.
Both the cameraman and Akane return to Hajime. The journalist, cheeks flushed, closes her mouth, which she had unconsciously left open, and blinks at Iwaizumi like an owl. He looks at her, amused, with his hands in his pockets.
"Isn't my gift so pretty?"
That segment of the interview goes viral within days (just a few weeks before the All Star Match, for Kuroo's delight). Countless theories are published, the most popular being the true meaning of the ring Oikawa always ties to his shoelaces during every match—not a good luck charm, but a real engagement ring (Tooru didn't help by responding to the entire thread with a simple o(≧▽≦)o). A certain Hanamaki begins accepting interviews (with payment upfront, of course) only to answer ambiguously and send greetings to his mother from various networks. A certain Matsukawa gives away I <3 IwaOi shirts with the purchase of a coffin. And Oikawa finally re-uploads all the photos with Iwaizumi to his public account, from the selfie where Tooru playfully bites Hajime's cheek while he laughs, to the photo of his hand on Iwaizumi's solid, muscular, and broad back, his long fingers caressing the scratches at the height of his shoulder blades and the trail of hickeys on his neck.

girljournalling chapter 2: birthday week ˚ʚ ♡ ɞ˚
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm so grateful for all my amazing gifts and for the opportunity to enjoy myself without feeling guilty. i haven't felt that way in the longest time and i'm beginning to appreciate the smallest of things again.
what i received: a garmin forerunner 55 smartwatch, some super cute gym shorts+leggings, some brandy pyjama sets, some victoria's secret sprays (love spell shimmer+berry santal), a gym membership, hoka running shoes, lots of jewellery and clothes <3 i also received some cash from my family members the lucky girl syndrome is crazy; i couldn't ask for anything more
what i'm grateful for: this week i reconnected with my childhood best friend and went out with her for my birthday - we had the best time after a while of only seeing eachother occasionally. there are times when it feels like things are changing far too quickly and nostalgia of simpler times is just too much. i, like many others, fall victim to the same thinking: that things will never be the same, that the memories of laughing until we had a bellyache would be lost forever. if i could leave somebody with one thought, it would be this: life is cyclical, people and things and feelings come and go, and it is perfectly okay. just like the inevitable tide, new characters have their introductions and old characters might just appear once more.
what i've learned: it is okay to enjoy yourself, to indulge. truly experienceing life is about pleasure and enjoyment and the sharing of joy. i want to pay this forward, because part of my recovery journey means accpeting these values. recovery is not just about mending my relationship with food, but also with myself. it prompts me to look deeper and ask myself "what problems am i attempting to fix by restricting certain things?" and "how do i expect to fix these problems by neglecting my health and wellness?"

brynn utonium ( she/her ), currently twenty-five years old. super human, tech project manager. ( lee sung kyung, based on blossom from the powerpuff girls )
biography / musings
( written by jess, she/they, cst -- hello !! )
SECTION ONE - about
Brynn often feels like she has to remain control of things, otherwise things would inevitably go awry and it will partially be her fault - not that that would be something she'll admit to. More often than not, she'll even keep people at an arm's length until she's able to ascertain how exactly she can act around them.
She liked routines, things being neat, and things going according to plan. But she also likes to think that she was the kind of leader that knows how to roll with the punches and adapts quickly and with intention. As she pursues start-ups around Evermore and boldly supports all efforts to thwart crime however she can ( even if unneeded or unnecessary ), Brynn keeps an underlying ( hidden ) agenda and that is how to solve the whole mystique of Evermore: how to break it and ultimately, how to escape it.
But until she finds the answers she needs, Brynn tries to genuinely enjoy Evermore and all she has to offer.
SECTION TWO - headcanons
( note: taking some tidbits from the original series, the epic fanfiction titled 'more than human', and even the anime PPGZ because i was totally obsessed with it when i was younger )
Because she likes to have a clear plan of her life, Brynn tends to be very particular about how she plans things. She has notebooks and binders filled and organized about various things. Her planner has to be of the 'daily' variety and every other hour is scheduled; the young woman likes to be kept busy, in that she doesn't have to think about how Evermore doesn't quite need the Powerpuff Girls like Townsville used to.
The best way to reach Brynn is by call, but she's alerted to them via vibrate mode. She tends to get irritated at phones that are turned up way loud; part of her thinks that a decade of having to be up at the mere sound of a phone ring is only now starting to catch up to her. Also, very much vibing with the idea of her having a smartwatch and her takingcalls on her smartwatch like a power ranger/boss lady hybrid.
Brynn Utonium is a ( ex? ) crime fighter, tech start-up leader/developer, ice-breather...and a closeted superhero/comics fan. She politely asks that you do not look inside her closet, because it is private ( there's a DIY Liberty Belle costume in there, inspired by who she thinks is the greatest superhero of all time: Freedom Gal ). It'll be hard to coax it out of her, Brynn tends to keep anything that doesn't fit her ideal public image a closely-kept secret.
While not something she does professionally or even around other people, Brynn enjoys dancing. It adds one more to her list of things she does that requires her whole focus and concentration and while it looks like it's so much work, Brynn revels in it and considers it a form of meditation. She likes blocking off time in her week for dance & other forms of working out.
Ever since the incident with Al Lusion/Abracadaver, Brynn has nursed a slight interest in magic. Although with all of the things she keeps herself busy with, her abilities only extend to amateur card tricks. She still won't try to explain how she pulled off her survival against Abracadaver either.
SECTION THREE - abilities
superhuman abilities.
Ice Breath - from ice pops to frozen statues, brynn's ice breath can be range from enjoyable to lethal. only works properly when she is in good health.
Pink lightning bolts - zap! zap!
Microscopic vision
Pink laser eye beams
Advanced intelligence & knowledge
Danger Sense
Fire Breath
leadership.
Enhanced intuition
Intuitive aptitude
Expert leadership skills
Apt planning skills
Master strategist
SECTION FOUR - connections
connections ( to be expanded upon )

xxxiii: Silver Lining
Uncomplicated plans were every bad guy's Achilles heel. Arrogance made them think no one would ever try to lie to them so shamelessly, but unfortunately for them, Cat had no sense of shame.
She didn't hear from Spidey in a while, but he'd agreed to contact Kate and ask for help. The archer's sudden disappearance was interpreted as her attempt to hide from Copycat so she didn't kill her, so Russo wanted her to kill Harley Keener instead.
She didn't know what she'd do, and she was getting more and more worried, Kurt's state worsened as time passed by, he couldn't even hold himself up in a sitting position. Then, almost as a miracle, Sergei announced Kate had been spotted in Tibet, and she had to go after her. Cat's inhibitor got deactivated, she had three days to get everything done.
Cat tried to call Spider-man with the old beeper. It seemed that the guy's theory was correct because the artifact turned on for only a second before dying completely.
"Great," she huffed.
Someone knocked on her bedroom window, it was him.
"Webs!" She let him in, quickly pulling him away from view. "Just in time! They found her!"
"She called me," Felix crawled out from under Cat's bed and purred against him. They weren't sure the cat could remember him, Felix had always been nice to strangers. "Kate thinks she knows where Wanda is, but I don't know how we'll find her—"
She put on his wrist the old smartwatch Tony had given her. "We'll talk about that later. Right now you have to go stealth. If Spider-man's seen they'll know I lied and they'll kill my friends."
Her black suit covered him, he looked weird, then she couldn't see him at all.
"Did Kate tell you where she is?"
"Yeah."
"Let's go, then."
Tumblr media
Cat knocked on the door and Kate immediately opened it, she tried to hug her but she didn't know Spider-man was in the way and they crashed against each other.
"My bad, my bad—!" Kate coughed. " Is that Copycat's suit? Why are you in stealth?"
"He's dead," Cat explained as she stepped inside and pushed her sunglasses up.
Kate smiled at her. "I'm so glad to know you're okay."
Kate tried to hug her again, but Cat hissed to scare her off. She pointed at her collar. "They send me friendly reminders every five minutes."
Kate glared at the inhibitor. "I wanna hurt them."
"Let's find Wanda first. You can turn that off, bugboy."
Spider-man's suit showed up, but he didn't take off the watch. "Hi, Kate!"
"Hi," Kate looked at Cat with a giddy expression. "I'm friends with Spider-man."
"Everyone's friends with Spider-man, guy's like a golden retriever," she teased.
"So they haven't scorched out your sense of humor," he replied with a scoff.
Cat turned to Kate. "What do we know about Wanda?"
"Strange told me Wanda died and it was best not to look into it, then I told him you wanted to see her because she was like a sister to you— Spidey said not to freak out the others by telling them you were in danger— "
"I don't think they care and if they did, they'd help Russo kill me."
"Don't joke like that," Spider-man scolded her.
"Anyway, Strange told me I could come here and talk to this girl who saw Wanda last, America Chavez."
"And did you?"
"She's from another universe!" Kate said excitedly. "She's got so many cool stories, but I'll tell you about them later. Anyway, Strange thinks Wanda's dead but America's not so sure, she said she's in Wundagore Mountain?"
"Where is that?"
"Europe. Kinda."
"Well, okay. Let's go there!" said Spidey.
"That Mountain fell apart," Kate shook her head. "It's in the middle of nowhere, we can't reach it... You're the only one that can try," the archer gave her a somber look.
"I'd try anything at this point— I rather die trapped in a mountain, than be a slave to Russo."
"That's not better, Cat."
"She's gone through worse, though," the young man pointed out.
"We should get a car, and proper clothing," Cat continued, grabbing Kate's bag and packing her food. "Webs should go stealth again— Kate... you need to dress like you're hidding."
"What?"
She gave her sunglasses to her. "Do you have any relatives in Europe?"
"A cousin I've never talked to?"
"D'you have a picture?"
Kate had to look through her social media, but she did find a picture in the end. Cat mimicked the stranger.
"I'm not sure blonde is your color," Kate quipped.
"The more it doesn't look like me..."
Tumblr media
Kate still didn't know how to drive, but Spider-man and Cat knew, so they took turns. Since the driver couldn't be invisible or they would be stopped, Spidey had to take off the mask, and while he had nothing concealing his face, they had to cover their eyes.
"Isn't the whole point of this trip to make me remember you?" Cat complained, tightening the scarf over her eyes.
"You told me not to trust you until you had your memories back," he explained. "I don't think you're lying, but I can't be sure you won't try to turn me in in exchange for Kurt."
"I thought my loyalty to you was stronger than that?"
"Not right now."
"You said you loved me," she reminded him casually. "Is it true that we dated, then?"
He cleared his throat. "Yeah."
"Wait— You guys dated?" She heard Kate sitting up on the passenger's side.
"For a while."
"But Cat said she didn't like dating other heroes!"
"That's thanks to me, I think."
"No, it's because of my other ex-boyfriend."
"Oh, really?" Spider-man sounded interested. "Wait— Isn't Matt a lawyer?"
"Oh, so you didn't know me that well, then," Cat said in satisfaction.
"I know you well," he laughed, "your ex-boyfriend though, all I know about him is that he's way older and you slept together as soon as you were left alone."
"You say that like it's out of character for her," Kate replied. "That's typical Cat behavior. But wait, how long did you two date?"
"About a year and a half?"
"WHAT?"
"You mean you had a long, steady relationship with Spider-man?" Kate said, utterly disgruntled. "And you didn't want to take that risk with me?"
"We were in high school, Kate," he explained patiently. "It wasn't real, we were only playing to pass the time... not that it means we didn't care for each other, but you know... I get it, what you tried to tell me after I came back, there was no way we would've worked out in the end."
"But we... we were happy, weren't we?" She asked, fearing her relationship with Spidey hadn't been that much different from the one she'd had with Matthew.
"Yeah, we were," she could feel him smiling. "We were a good team."
"How did I manage to keep you that long?" Cat asked in incredulity.
"I mean, you'd barely hold hands without feeling awkward, but that doesn't mean you were cold or anything— You were sweet to me, and I never doubted your feelings. You had no reason to lie."
Kate snorted. "No no, I can't believe you! Cat, being a hundred percent honest?"
"It's true!" Now he was a little sorry for her. "You know, Kate, the woman you met is not the girl I fell for."
"I heard that..." Kate's voice sounded weird. "I don't know her as well as I thought."
"Don't feel bad, I don't know myself either," Cat was unbothered by the whole thing. "Hey, Spider, did we ever drink milkshakes together?"
"All the time!"
"What's my favorite?"
He told her, and Cat finally understood why she would always crave one whenever she was feeling down.
"We used to drink them during our Star Wars marathons—"
"You watched Star Wars with him first?!"
"I think he got all my firsts," Cat said amusedly.
"Not all of them," his voice grew quiet. "You had this scar..." she could hear him gesturing at the back of his head. "Wanda did something to it, and you started to get these... visions. But that scar was the reason you didn't like to be touched more than necessary."
"I remember... it's gone now," she said, deep in thought. "But maybe I'll get a new one thanks to this thing," she grazed at the inhibitor.
It sounded like Spider-man knew things he had no way of knowing unless she'd told him, he knew her favorite things, and he even knew a little bit about her love life after the blip, they'd stayed in touch in spite of everything. That meant, that she must've done all she could to keep him around, and if she'd tried that hard, it had to mean he'd been one of the best things that ever happened to her.
For Cat it was far easier to quit things than to hold onto them, so knowing she'd dated this guy for a year and a half, was the revelation of the century. She'd loved someone enough to fight against her nature.
They fell into an awkward silence until Kate changed the subject.
"How long till we get there?"
"An hour, give or take," Spidey replied. "Cat's phone is supposed to let us know once we get there."
"So once she remembers you... what's the plan?"
"He activates Edith, grants access to me, and I send the Stark troops to Russo."
"But you don't know where he's keeping Kurt."
"I know, I gotta go back one last time... How will I do that without your head? That's something I still haven't figured out."
"Excuse me?"
"Maybe Wanda can make you a false one or something, she's magic after all," Spidey suggested.
"She won't be happy to see me, you know?" Cat sighed. She was aware this visit wasn't going to be well-received by her old friend.
"How can she be mad at you when you're just as fucked as she is?" Kate wondered.
"Everything that happened to her was thanks to the accords I signed for my own benefit."
"Did the accords force her to hunt down a fifteen-year-old girl?"
"...no."
Cat stayed quiet for the rest of the ride, trying to think of what she'd say to Wanda after so many years. If Wanda even cared at all. She was so distracted that when the collar stunned her it caught her off guard. The mutant jumped out of her seat, Spider-man's hand tried to reach for her, but she warned him against it.
"Don't touch me!" She choked out.
"Are you okay?" Kate said worryingly.
"Don't take off the blindfold," Cat climbed back to her seat. She was panting. "I'm fine."
Tumblr media
Spidey put on the mask and handed the smartwatch to Cat, she wrapped herself tightly in Kate's coat, she had no clue what she'd find down there, but she had to face it.
"We could go with you..." Kate began.
"No. If Wanda's alive, I want to talk to her in private."
"Good luck, C."
Cat started walking away, but before she could go far, Kate ran towards her and without warning, wrapped her arms around her. Cat protested but she ignored her demands.
"I just had to..." Kate moved away, hastily drying her eyes.
"I have to go, Kate."
"Come with me to L.A."
Cat blinked. "What?"
"I'm moving out," Kate explained hurriedly. Cat had the feeling she'd been hiding the information for a long time. "New York is full of people like you, but everywhere else is so neglected... I was going to tell you that day when Sergei found me in your apartment— Clint lives closer to L.A., so it was just... it's convenient for me. And you."
"Me?"
"I want you to come with me. You'll be safe..."
"I can't go anywhere as long as this is on me," she told her, referring to the collar around her throat.
"But you're getting it off, I know you will. Just think about it, okay? It'll be better if you get out of that city— I can't be there, Cat, it reminds me of my old life too much..."
Cat just stared at her, now was not the time for this. She wasn't even sure she'd be alive after that journey. "I'll think about it... later. I have to go."
"I know. Be careful, please?"
Cat cupped her face but didn't kiss her. A funny thought came to her then, and it was that Spidey wouldn't have asked her to be careful. He knew her better. It was weird, how sure she was.
She wondered how different her life would've been if only he'd stuck around. Maybe she'd already wondered that same thing many times before, she just didn't remember.
"See you soon."

Unrequited Love.
Tumblr media
Synopsis: In a tale of unspoken desires, a young girl grapples with her unrequited love for another girl, fearing that the truth of her feelings could forever change their friendship.
Pairing: f!reader x Gwen Stacy.
Tumblr media
Once you crossed paths in the digital realm, you saw her beauty and believed that befriending her might quiet the storm of thoughts swirling in your head, but it didn't. As your conversations continued, those thoughts grew stronger, as if they were the only sound in a quiet room. When she wasn't there to talk to, it felt like your gears were jammed, unable to turn. She became a constant presence in your mind, impossible to escape. Over time, you gained the courage to ask if you could hear her voice, and when you did, it was as if a smooth, silky melody flowed into your ears. It was like a siren's song, luring you into an ocean of emotions you struggled to grasp. Never before had you imagined fixating on someone, especially a girl, to this extent.
Gwen Stacy was like a dream come true, from her amazing looks to her wonderful personality, but you didn't want to risk messing up the friendship you had worked so hard to create with these confusing feelings you didn't completely get. You wished maybe these feelings were just a passing thing, but as they settled down, another friend mentioned how perfectly you two clicked – how you could finish her sentences and how she laughed at your jokes as if they were the funniest things ever. Even when you acted strange, she embraced it because you both accepted each other. To others, it might have seemed like you were head over heels, but in her eyes, you were just her best friend.
As time went on, your thoughts couldn't help but focus only on her, yet her mind was occupied with others. She meant everything to you, your source of power, strength, and thoughts. It was like... when you thought of her, she could pump adrenaline into you like you never imagined. Your heart would race faster than a smartwatch could measure at the mere thought of her. It felt like a spell, making only thoughts of her swirl in your mind. "What's she up to, where is she, I hope she's okay, I really miss her."
You always thought that someday you'd gather enough courage to reveal your feelings, but for the moment, all you could do was treasure what you shared now.

Hitagi Honeymoon
022
"I understand every detail, Araragi-senpai. You don't need to say anything else, and you don't need to worry about anything. All your worries rest on my shoulders now. I swear on the name of Tokugawa Ieyasu that I will find Shinobu-chan. So please, Araragi-senpai, continue on your way to Senjougahara with Araragi-senpai."
"But, Kanbaru..."
"In all honesty, I implore you not to abandon your honeymoon here. Of course, if there was an imminent danger to Shinobu-chan's life, there would be no room for choice— but that is not the case. If you still insist on leaving your bride to search for Shinobu-chan, then you may as well shoot me dead."
I didn't have a gun on me.
Nor should an ordinary guy like me even possess such a thing.
"We aren’t some high school kids skipping school to search for her anymore. It's time to grow up."
You’re one to talk.
Still a student yourself.
But she was right. Much has changed since the time when I ran around town trying to find Shinobu as she was on her journey of self-discovery. Now, I find myself lost in an unfamiliar land without even a sense of direction.
Wandering aimlessly could make me the one who's lost.
And the god of lost children was far, far away.
"Besides, if I am granted Araragi-senpai’s permission to move on my own, I have a method that could drastically improve the chances of finding her compared to if you were to search for her yourself. Please understand that I don't say this out of any desire to prioritize Araragi-senpai. I know how important Shinobu is to you, Araragi-senpai. That's why, in this instance, you should leave it all to me."
I couldn’t keep track of whether she meant Hitagi or me, but... it seems she had a way?
I thought it made sense that I should be the one most attuned to finding Shinobu, given our spiritual bond and master-servant relationship. But I couldn't find her on my own back in high school. To my frustration, I had to wait for her to come out of hiding on her own accord.
In the first place, it was rather irregular for Shinobu to break free from my shadow... Maybe it hadn't been wise to let her drink a considerable amount of blood before inspecting the stone.
That might have temporarily allowed her independent action.
Metaphors about parent and child didn’t seem appropriate anymore… But maybe like a Bluetooth smartwatch?
Even so, it was still daytime… Ahh, I see.
The heavy rain helped too. Even in a place named after sunlight such as Nikko¹, there wasn’t a single ray of sunlight right now— that could be considered dangerous, though.
What if the fickle mountain weather changed again...? Neither of us knew the area well. Actually, Shinobu was worse off. At least I had a smartphone with a map app, but unlike Kagenui-san, who treated her Shikigami like a little sister, I hadn't even given Shinobu a kid's cell phone.
Because she wasn’t my daughter.
No, it's no use; I just can't sit still any longer.
"I guarantee it. Also, if you move, it's highly probable that our strategy will fail. The best thing for Shinobu-chan is for you to go with Araragi-senpai to Senjougahara."
"I trust you wholeheartedly. If you say it is necessary for me to wear a Naoetsu High School girl’s uniform to find Shinobu, even at my ripe age of twenty-four, I will gladly do it. However, if you say not to do anything, I'd at least like to know what you're planning."
"I'm gonna do something that you'd stop me from doing if I told you. That's all I can say."
It was tempting to point out which of us it was that hadn’t changed since school, but I suppose we were both alike in our stubbornness. The wolf may lose his teeth but never his nature— including the fact that when I look straight into the eyes of my devoted junior, I can’t help but concede.
And that was certainly a hint.
She'd revealed as much of her strategy as possible, just barely toeing the line.
Even I, who wouldn't hesitate to employ any means necessary to find Shinobu, would be compelled to stop what she had in mind.
"……"
Ah, so that’s it— she would ask that conman for a hand. Not the monkey’s paw, at least.
I had come to know of it only after becoming a cop to apprehend him, but through her mother or her aunt, Kanbaru had a direct connection to Kaiki Deishuu, the infamous conman who wreaked havoc in our hometown. It seems that even during high school, unbeknownst to me, she had met with that man.
He had suddenly vanished from the public eye at some point (which might be a natural consequence for a criminal), so I had assumed her ties with him had been severed as well. Even the free-spirited Gaen-san seemed to have decided against approaching the Kanbaru family— but it was quite surprising that she still kept in contact with him.
Right, he might be very skilled at tracking down a runaway girl. In this particular field, his expertise, annoyingly, may well surpass that of Gaen-san.
Even though I am well aware that the world doesn't always run on justice and righteousness, and even if I tried to put aside personal feelings, as a police officer, it irks me to rely on a criminal's help in a tough situation. But, as Kanbaru said, the chances of finding her were the highest this way.
In fact, there was no one else to lend a hand. Not even a foot.
Even if I disregard our history, as an agent of law enforcement, my presence would undoubtedly put that conman on high alert. And as for assurances, the notorious criminal would never deceive Kanbaru—no matter how reckless an illicit investigation may be, her safety was guaranteed.
Certainly, a decision had to be made.
A painful one.
"Got it. I'll leave everything to you. I grant you carte blanche. But I'll bear all responsibility. Even if things don't go well, you don't need to worry. So, without feeling any pressure, please do your best."
"Leave it to me! Now hurry up and go, Araragi-senpai. There's a minivan waiting for you in the parking lot. From here on out, it's just the two of you. Just a return to the way it should be, the real honeymoon."
It was really paradoxical to think that not pursuing the runaway Shinobu would be best for her. As baffling as it may be, when urged like that, I knew that my mission was clear— to make my way to Oku-Nikko as soon as possible.
Without waiting for me to leave fully, Kanbaru took out her smartphone and began pushing a number on the touch panel that she seemed to remember by heart. Had I gone back on my word and arrasted that conman who played a big part in my motivation to become a police officer, it would not have been impossible. But such betrayal was out of the question.
Actually, I was glad I didn't.
Kanbaru probably thought I'd moved far away when she began the call, but just like how Shinobu regained the power to temporarily break away from her shadow seal, my five senses, too, were enhanced— sharper than they had any right to be. Just as I was tiptoeing through the dark, I could barely make out the familiar voice of my junior from over a dozen meters away.
"My name is Kanbaru Suruga. My special skill is the double jump."
Are you still saying that?
