Escape From Paradise is a USA based travel blog by Ingrid Lemme - an award-winning TV Host, Publisher, and Travel Writer & Blogger.
Our Story:
My husband and I are snowbirds, some of these fortunate retirees that are able to fly south as soon as it gets colder in the northern hemisphere. We think of our home locations as paradise, as we are spending our summers in the mountains of West Virginia, our winters on the ocean in Palm Coast, Florida and then in between we are visiting my beautiful hometown of Montauk on the East End of Long Island, New York. As much as we love the places where we live, Marcus and I are adventures and we are always looking forward to another exciting "Escape from Paradise”. Life is short and the bucket list long ;) ….

“Maggie Roe” (USA 2023)
“Maggie” was a Texan woman who underwent a legal abortion in March of 2023. As Texas laws unambiguously permit, the abortion was meant to save Maggie’s life or health. Unfortunately, it killed her instead.
Maggie’s case and the data surrounding it, though no less of a tragedy, illustrates the following:
• abortion intended to save the life of the mother is legal in Texas and DOES get approved
• Texas abortion laws reduced maternal abortion deaths and abortions overall
• abortions done with intention to save the mother’s life can still do the opposite
While Maggie’s death was undoubtedly a tragedy, Texas laws restricting abortion prevent other women from dying like she did. Texas abortion bans have been found to dramatically reduce overall rate of abortion (even including those traveling out of state to circumvent the law). It was thanks to these laws that Maggie’s death was the only known maternal abortion death in Texas in 2023. Although data reporting for the 2023 period is incomplete (as of February 2024), 49 abortions were approved and done legally with the intention to preserve the life and/or health of the mother. All were done in hospitals, where the resources were present to have the best chance of treating complications— and the conditions that endangered lives in the first place.
(However, it is strange that abortion would have been chosen or recommended over an induced delivery or C-section in any case past the very early first trimester. An abortion at that stage would take multiple days and put the patient at further risk, while delivery would be immediate and allow the treatment of both patients.)
Those who died of legal abortion in Texas before the overturn of Roe v Wade include Denise Montoya, Maureen Espinoza, Jammie Garcia, Latachie Veal, Dorothy Bryant, Virginia “Genie” Lynn Wolfe, Sharyn Graham, Vanessa Preston, Mickey Apodaca, Junette Barnes, Glenda Davis, Sheila Watley and Louchrisser Jackson. Today, Texas bans on abortions not ruled medically necessary prevent many others from dying the way they did.

Welcome to Antioch, CALLUM ‘CAL’ MAJENTY! Local sources report that you’ve been in town for FIVE YEARS and are known to be AFFECTIONATE yet TEMPERAMENTAL. Others have dredged up rumors that you’re involved in SATANIC PANIC as BASS, but most know you for your work as an ASSISTANT MANAGER at ZIPPO’S ARCADE. We’ll see you around town soon!
BASICS
Character Name: Callum Wesley Magenty Nickname (s): Cal, which is how he introduces himself. Face Claim: Kiowa Gordon Birthday: February 13th Place of birth: Peach Springs, Arizona, USA Zodiac: Aquarius MBTI: ENFP Moral Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Sexuality: Bisexual Occupation: Assistant Manager Place of work: Zippo's Arcade Subplot affiliation: Satanic Panic 3 positive traits: Caring, adventurous, loyal 3 negative traits: Stubborn, argumentative, destructive Languages: English Love language: Quality time
TRIVIA
Rolls his own cigarettes just like he remembers his dad doing.
Bites his nails and rips his cuticles even though he says he doesn't.
Likes to draw and used to dream about having his work in an art gallery.
Biography
Barely old enough to hold onto memories of his father when the man went out to 'buy some cigarettes' late one night, Callum grew up with just his mother looking out for him for most of his life, a woman that sometimes had to work two jobs to pay the bills and who always did her best even if it meant Cal was left on his own a lot growing up. Daycare was expensive and his aunt had her own job to do, not capable of dropping everything to pick up her nephew so he wasn't home alone. He knew the rules. Keep hold of your house key. Let yourself in, check all the doors and windows. Hide somewhere and do your homework. Keep a knife with you.
He knew the rules, but didn't often follow them. Instead of homework, he'd sometimes do odd jobs for the neighbors and try to make extra money so his mom didn't need to work so hard. Then he got older and he got braver, more rebellious. Old enough that people didn't question what he was doing on the bus alone and once he was away from the neighborhood of people that knew him, Cal started taking more risks to make money, and sometimes those risks ended up with the cops called.
His mama tried her best, Cal would never tell anyone otherwise, and Cal did his best as well and would spit on anyone that didn't understand that.
It all crashed when she died not long after he turned twenty, and to no one's surprise, the funeral ate up their savings until their was nothing left. Her loss opened up a gaping hole inside Cal and sucked inside of it their entire lives together. The modest little house he grew up in was sold, and Cal ditched his roommates in order to take off on his motorcycle, leaving home behind without any inclination of just where he would go next. He did that for years, traveling around from state to state, trying to start over and always falling back into trouble, trying to find a sense of peace only to feel an itch under his skin.
He showed up in Antioch eventually because it had a reputation worse than him, it seemed like a town made up of bad luck and ill fortune and finally he slotted in there, a place where misdeeds were the norm. He fit in, found a job, and then found the band. It wasn't the life his mom would have wanted for him, but it was a life outside of a prison cell, so Callum thought he was doing pretty good and didn't see the point in asking for more.
Because that's all life had turned into for him. Surviving. No real goals, no real aspirations, just a handful of dreams covered in dirt that he didn't believe in anymore, and emotion without a targeted direction.
CONNECTIONS
Wanted Connection #1: Past hook ups because the guy is probably a slut.
Wanted Connection #2: People Judging:tm: him because of the previous point (could also judge him because of Callista)
Wanted Connection #3: Either someone to antagonize him because they don't believe he's better than that, or someone to mentor him because they DO believe he's better than that. (I'll be real. I know damn well what will happen if he meets Gim.)

NHL Returning to Olympics in 2026
There hasn't been a best-on-best international ice hockey tournament since the World Cup of Hockey in 2016, but that will change in 2025 with the National Hockey League (NHL) 4 Nations Face-Off, a precursor to the league's return to the Olympics in 2026. Played from February 12 to 20 in Boston, Massachusetts, and Montreal, Quebec, the round-robin tournament will feature the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland. The following year, NHL players will be participating in the Olympics for the first time since the Sochi 2014 Games.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said the 4 Nations Face-Off, held in place of the annual All-Star Game in the 2024-25 season, will be a one-off event. In an effort to provide fans with more best-on-best international hockey, the NHL will host the World Cup of Hockey in 2028 and has an agreement with the NHL Players Association (NHLPA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to send players to the 2030 Olympics. The league intends to host the World Cup two years after every Winter Olympics.
Ice hockey has been part of the Winter Olympics since 1920, when Canada beat the United States 2-0 to win the gold medal in Antwerp, Belgium. Canada won six of the first seven Olympic gold medals, following which the Soviet Union enjoyed a dominant stretch, winning seven of nine gold medals. However, NHL players weren't permitted to play in the Olympics until the Nagano Games in 1998, meaning the Canadian and American teams were composed of amateur athletes - the US, with a roster of mostly college players, famously beat the Soviets in the "Miracle on Ice" game in 1980.
The Czech Republic won gold in the first of five consecutive Winter Olympics in which NHL players participated, beating Russia 1-0 in the final. Surprisingly, neither Canada nor the US medaled. However, the North American nations met in the gold medal game at Salt Lake City in 2002 and Vancouver in 2010, with Canada winning both games. Sweden beat Finland in the gold medal game in Torino in 2006, and Canada beat Sweden in the final in Sochi in 2014.
The NHL, NHLPA, and IOC couldn't agree on NHL player inclusion in the 2018 Games in PyeongChang largely due to travel costs and marketing rights. This appeared to be a one-off as all parties agreed to a deal for NHL participation in the Beijing 2022 Games in September 2021, but the NHL and NHLPA backed out a few months later after a COVID-19 outbreak that disrupted an already shortened schedule for the NHL.
The upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off will be the first time some of the NHL's best players, including Auston Matthews (USA) and Connor McDavid (Canada), get to represent their respective countries in best-on-best international hockey. Both Matthews and McDavid played in the World Cup in 2016 but were part of the U23 Team North America. McDavid has been an outspoken advocate for international hockey and for the NHL to return to the Olympics.
In June, the four teams in the 4 Nations Face-Off selected their first six players for the upcoming tournament. McDavid headlines Canada's group, which also includes Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. Matthews is joined by Matthew Tkachuk, Jack Eichel, Quinn Hughes, Adam Fox, and Charlie McAvoy on Team USA.

Going to Horseshoe Bend: A Traveler’s Guide
If you’ve seen pictures of Arizona, or even advertising USA travel in general, I’m almost certain you have seen the famous Horseshoe Bend.
If not, here it is!
Horseshoe Bend is where the Colorado River makes a giant sweeping horseshoe-shaped bend in the canyon. It’s a picturesque area on the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, where you get a wide panoramic view of the Colorado River before it reaches the famous Grand Canyon – one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
I especially loved the clear turquoise water of the Colorado River below, which is not a color you typically see on the Colorado River.
Where is Horseshoe Bend, Arizona?
Horseshoe Bend is one of the top places to visit in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and is about 10 minutes away from the town of Page in northeast Arizona, close to the Utah border.
The parking lot is near the Horseshoe bend trailhead, which is located off US Highway 89, approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of the Carl Hayden Visitor Center.
Plenty of handicap-assessable parking is located near the trailhead.
Horseshoe Bend has become so busy, the best time to visit is early mornings or early afternoon. There is a fee of $10 per car to get in and there is plenty of parking. If there is no parking nearby, you can always take the shuttle, which costs $5 per person. Sunset is the busiest time as there will be hundreds of people trying to get a view of the sun setting behind the mountains to the west, so get here early to get a good spot to watch.
It is slightly less busy in the off-season – running from October through February. Spring or Autumn will have the best weather being neither too hot nor cold. It’s the desert so during summer there will be high heat and little shade.
June until September are considered the monsoon season, so you might even expect rainy (and even stormy) weather during this time of year.

A diary written for you
Kim Namjoon
Genre: ♥︎
Summary: Namjoons best letters written to you in his diary while on tour.
September 4th, 2018 Los Angeles, USA
We landed in Los Angeles, it quite busy but very beautiful; you’d think so too. I’m excited to see army yet I miss you so much. Isnt that crazy? It’s been just a few days since I’ve seen you and even so I miss you. I have to go practice, I’ll write to you again.
September 10th, 2018 Oakland, USA
Do you miss me like I miss you? The boys say I’m dramatic but I say I’m in love. I wish I could put you in my pocket and bring you with me, that would be convenient.
September 22nd, 2018 Hamilton, Canada
We’ve traveled to Texas and spent a few days there, we are in Canada now. I’ve bought some maple syrup just like you asked, we can try them on some pancakes when I get back home to you.
October 7th, 2018 London, UK
Newark, Chicago, New York City, yet none of them say HOME like you do. I miss you, so much. I’ve been looking at tickets to bring you with me, the boys miss you too so I see no cons in letting you join us.
October 12th, 2018 Amsterdam, Netherlands
I’ve realized a major flaw in my previous letters. Not once have I written to ask how my plants are! How are my babies Jjin Jjin, Maehwa-agi, dayug-i and Cherry?! Are you watering them well? Have you been talking to them like I told you?! Words of affirmation make them bloom better you know. Have you checked on moni too? I wonder if he misses me.
October 20th, 2018 Paris, France
Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris. I was able to visit some museums in Berlin, that’s when I video called you. Have I mentioned my favorite piece of art though? It’s a rare piece named “you”, I really love that piece.
November 1st, 2018 Tokyo, Japan
Can you believe it! I’ll finally get to see you again! Your beautiful face which I’ve missed so much. I called my parents to make sure they drove you to the airport, I didn’t want you leaving alone. I’ll be picking you up from the airport in Japan. You’ve always wanted to go to Osaka so I’m glad you’ll be here with me.
November 14th, 2018 Tokyo, Japan
Last day in Tokyo and I’ll miss army here. But soon I’ll see you and my heart will heal a little more. The boys and I roamed around today before the concert, Tokyo looks beautiful early in the morning.
November 20th, 2018 Osaka, Japan
I’ve picked you up from the airport, you’re currently laying right next to me in bed while I’m writing this for you. Did you know all my thoughts have been just you? It’s always you.
December 7th, 2018 Taoyuan, Taiwan
We celebrated Jins birthday a few days ago, he was very happy with your present. Your my present, seeing you makes me the happiest man alive. Gosh, I understand why the boys make fun of me, I’m so in love with you.
January 1st, 2019 Nagoya, Japan
We have now celebrated Taehyungs birthday too, you just know how to gift people don’t you? We are headed back to Japan soon, however I think your stay with me will run short soon as well. As said previously I wish I could just fit you in my pocket and carry you around with me.
January 16th, 2019 With You
I’ll be able to spend a month with you all by myself, isn’t that exciting? We can visit all the places you’ve wanted to visit my love.
February 16th, 2019 Fukuoka, Japan
Saying goodbye hurts. I had to do just that this morning. Why did it hurt to say goodbye more this time? I miss you already.
March 1st, 2019 Hong Kong
Although we haven’t had a concert, life has been hectic with promotions. Has your day been busy? I guess I’ll find out later tonight when I call you.
March 20th, 2019 Hong Kong
It’s weird, I miss you so much I want to go back home. But soon I’ll have to say goodbye to army and I’ll miss them so much too.
April 2nd, 2019 Bangkok, Thailand
Our last concert is in 5 days and I don’t think I’m ready to say goodbye. I don’t even think I’m ready to say see you later.
April 7th, 2019 Bangkok, Thailand
The day has come where my mind is conflicted. On one hand I can’t wait to wrap my arms around you, say I love you in person and be able to hold your hand again. But on the other I’ll miss army so much, I hope to see them again soon.
April 20th, 2019 Somewhere USA
It seems that we are extending our tour, so that means I won’t have to miss army any longer! And to make me happier you said you’d hop on board. Let me go buy a lottery ticket, I feel so lucky today.
The last note of this diary
June 1st, 2019 London, UK
I have no more space in this little notebook, I bought the biggest size too. Although it seems like nothing compared to my love for you. Thanks for traveling with me, I know you get tired. I hope we will travel the world together forever. I’ll buy a new notebook again tomorrow but until then, goodnight.
