Why Choose an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut
Preparing for the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam can be a challenging journey for those aiming to study, work, or migrate abroad. While self-study is an option, many aspirants choose to enroll in an IELTS coaching centre for guidance and support. In Calicut, the demand for IELTS preparation is high, with numerous coaching centres offering professional training. This article will explore the reasons why choosing an IELTS Coaching Centre In Calicut can be a wise decision for test-takers.
1. Expert Guidance and Training
One of the primary advantages of joining an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut is access to experienced and qualified trainers. These professionals are well-versed in the exam format, scoring criteria, and common challenges faced by students. Their expertise helps candidates improve their English language skills while offering personalized feedback on performance. This focused guidance ensures that students are well-prepared for the test's four main components: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

2. Structured Learning Approach
Preparing for the IELTS exam requires a disciplined and systematic study approach. Coaching centres provide a structured learning environment where lessons are tailored to cover all aspects of the exam. Each section is broken down into manageable modules, helping students focus on specific areas for improvement. A well-organized study plan not only reduces stress but also maximizes the use of available study time. In an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut, students can expect a step-by-step curriculum designed to enhance their chances of success.
3. Access to Study Materials and Resources
Another significant benefit of joining an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut is the availability of comprehensive study materials and resources. Most coaching centres provide a range of practice tests, sample questions, and study guides that mirror the actual exam format. In addition, students have access to digital resources, including video tutorials, online quizzes, and e-books. This variety of resources allows students to practice extensively and familiarize themselves with the test format, thereby building confidence for the exam day.
4. Mock Tests and Performance Evaluation
Mock tests play a crucial role in IELTS preparation, as they give candidates a realistic experience of the exam environment. Many IELTS Coaching Centres in Calicut regularly conduct mock tests that simulate the actual IELTS exam, allowing students to gauge their performance. These tests help identify strengths and areas that need improvement. Moreover, trainers provide detailed evaluations of mock test results, offering constructive feedback that helps students focus on weak areas and improve their overall performance.
5. Customized Study Plans
Every IELTS candidate has different strengths and weaknesses. An IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut recognizes this and often offers customized study plans tailored to each student's unique needs. For instance, a student who struggles with speaking but excels in reading may receive additional speaking practice to build confidence in that area. Personalized attention and a customized study plan ensure that students receive targeted training that caters to their individual learning styles and requirements.
6. Focused Speaking and Writing Practice
The speaking and writing sections of the IELTS exam are often considered the most challenging by candidates. An IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut provides ample opportunities for focused practice in these areas. Instructors offer speaking sessions where students engage in mock interviews, enhancing their fluency and confidence in real-life conversations. Similarly, writing practice sessions allow students to receive feedback on grammar, coherence, and vocabulary usage, helping them improve their writing skills for both the Academic and General Training modules of the exam.
7. Time Management Strategies
Time management is crucial when taking the IELTS exam, as each section is timed. Coaching centres in Calicut help students develop effective time management strategies to ensure that they complete each section within the allotted time. Trainers teach students techniques for answering questions efficiently, such as skimming and scanning for reading comprehension or structuring essays for the writing section. Learning these strategies in an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut can significantly improve a student's chances of achieving their desired score.
8. Peer Learning and Interaction
Studying in a group setting allows students to interact with peers who share similar goals. At an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut, candidates can participate in group discussions, share insights, and learn from each other's experiences. This peer interaction not only enhances learning but also creates a supportive environment that encourages collaboration and motivation. Group study sessions, debate activities, and role-play exercises are often part of the curriculum, fostering communication skills in a real-world context.
9. Boosted Confidence and Reduced Stress
The pressure to perform well in the IELTS exam can be overwhelming. Enrolling in an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut provides students with a support system that reduces exam-related stress. Regular practice, expert guidance, and familiarity with the test format help boost confidence, making candidates feel more prepared for the big day. Additionally, knowing that they have access to all the necessary resources and support helps students focus better and approach the exam with a positive mindset.
10. Higher Chances of Success
Ultimately, the goal of joining an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut is to increase the chances of achieving a high score. With expert trainers, tailored study plans, access to resources, and continuous feedback, students are better equipped to handle the challenges of the IELTS exam. Coaching centres provide a focused and supportive learning environment that ensures candidates are well-prepared to achieve their desired band score, whether for academic, work, or immigration purposes.
Conclusion
Choosing an IELTS Coaching Centre in Calicut offers numerous benefits, from expert guidance and personalized study plans to access to mock tests and valuable resources. For those looking to maximize their chances of success, enrolling in a coaching centre provides the structured learning environment and support needed to excel in the IELTS exam. Whether you're aiming to study abroad, pursue a career overseas, or migrate to an English-speaking country, investing in professional IELTS training can make a significant difference in your preparation journey.

I never knew anybody 'til I knew you (Lando Norris)
Your new job is allowing you to have new experiences, and your heart is not too mad about it either
Note: english is not my first language. After a long time in the books, I'm finally writing for Lando! This is my first long piece and I hope I did well enough!
Thank you so much to everyone who likes and reblogs, your feedback is appreciated 🤍 and I'm taking requests so if you have any ideas or concepts you want to share, feel free to do so as I'll try to get to them the best I can!

"I'm just saying, it's closer that way. We can go and get the packages ourselves and sort out any issues with them straight away", Lando reasoned, opening his text message app so he could continue what he wanted to do. "Okay, fine by me. He's got a point, Y/N", Max raised his hands in surrender, looking at you for your opinion.
Working for Quadrant hadn't been a goal you had set out to accomplish in the strict sense of it. You didn't see yourself working for a massive company where people were stuffed in offices where the only way they could know their colleagues' names was when they had online meetings that took far too long and discussed the baseline of the issues. So, when you saw the job offer for someone in the Graphic Design area of work, you looked up the company name and saw their work, fascinated with how the guys had grown this business from streaming online gaming. Later, as you progressed in the recruitment process, you came to learn that Lando and Max also had a more public presence than you had initially figured out, despite all of your friends' insistence that "you can't be that clueless, Y/N, how did you not know that Quadrant was Lando Norris'? I thought you applied because of that", they would say as you shrugged your shoulders, "in this economy, do you think I am that picky about a job? I have my preferences, sure, but I know what I'm worth and I saw the offer was actually quite okay!", you defended yourself.
You ended up getting the spot and, so far, you couldn't complain. Most of the time you worked with Callum, Max and Tara, since your work overlapped with theirs, and every now and again, like right now, Lando would also meet up with you.
"Are you sure it's fine if I go? Your parents know Max, but they haven't met me before. Are you sure they won't find it weird?", you spoke directly to Lando, thinking that his idea, as lovely and kind as it was, didn't account for the facts you were stating.
"Max is coming because he's from the team, and you're from the team, too, so you're coming with us as well", Lando said simply, not seeing the problem.
"But he's been your friend for so long now, I'm a Quadrant Team member", you attempted again, "they don't have to provide for and give a roof to a stranger, I'll find an hotel to spend the night", you offered, wanting to be clear about it.
"You're part of the team, too! Don't worry about that, okay?", Lando said, "besides, mum loves having a full house, she's definitely the host of the family", he smiled, checking the item on his list nd carrying on the meeting.
"When we're there, we'll be able to get our hands on the embroidered Originals collection", Max began, "hopefully they're perfect and we can start working on the website", he gestured as you turned your laptop so they both could see, "this is the concept I've come up with, since this isn't as flashy or as colourful as past collections", you showed them the mood board, looking for disapproval signs but being met with looks of surprise instead, "I know it's not usually what you go for, so I also have another idea here, if you just let m-", you were about to change when Lando slapped your hand away from the mouse and holding it in his, "I really like this one, especially these posts here, I think the ideas are great!", he noted as he set your hand down on the table, "okay, then I can keep working on this", you said, closing the other tab, "do you have something better than this?", Max asked, "seems as good to me!", he offered.
"This is just a draft, I'll invest more time in this and I'll have it ready for the end of the week. That way we can have it ready when the clothes arrive. I'll text Tara to ler her know", you smiled, grabbing your phone as the boys flickered through the ideas, pointing out the different details they liked and wanted to keep.
.
"I'm way too young for my life to be just this, so please drive safely, Max", you said, buckling your seatbelt and exaggerating your hold on the door handle, "if you weren't such a crucial part of this team, I'd make you reconsider your jokes", he teased back, reversing out of the parking space and initiating the trip.
Lando was already at his parents' house since they had a family gathering the day before, so you and Max were driving up to meet him, "they're really nice people, really chilled as well", Max began, "Adam and Cisca, that is. I can hear you thinking and I'm assuming that is what's going on in your head", he stated.
"I don't want to step on anyone's toes, and I don't want to embarrass anyone or myself even. Can you imagine Lando's parents finding out their son's company has questionable employees? They'll mark me off as some sort of strategy fool or think that I want to take this company down, and I don't!", you uttered out, sharing more than you meant to.
Impostor's Syndrome was a bitch, and it often showed up the moment things got progressively harder, and while you knew you were able to deal with it, the little voice still nagged you.
"Y/N, you're one of the most valuable people we have on the team, and I don't say that lightly. This is Lando's baby, and yes, he's the face of it and that counts for most of it, but the work behind it is just as important and with the numbers we're having, it all comes down to you. Since you joined us the designing aspect of it, - obviously, you wouldn't be the one responsible for accounting, duh -, the compliments have been non stop, it has improved the interactions, too!", he said honestly, "you have nothing to worry about, truly", he comforted, "it's this exit here", he mumbled, checking the GPS and turning on the blinker, slowing down the car as they entered the city.
You didn't have to wait long before he pulled up to a big house, the gravel sound quieting down until it came to a halt when Max stopped the car, "Lando said he'd meet us at the door, I really don't fancy being mistaken by a burglar", he joked, getting out of the car as you did the same, stretching your legs and taking in the sight.
"Max, Y/N! Did you have a good trip?", Lando made himself be heard and seen, walking up to you and grabbing the bags his friend was taking out of the car boot, "I'll take these", he offered, picking up your luggage as you pulled on your backpack, "thanks", you smiled, following him as he led the way into his parents' house.
"My parents are in the kitchen", the Formula One driver said, ushering you to the roomy space after he and Max dropped the bags by the stairs, "Max, dear! We haven't seen you in so long, how are you?", a beautiful woman said. Her hair was brown and her skin was tanned as she hugged Max and Lando, "this is Y/N, she is our graphic designer", he presented you, the older man hugging you and his wife doing the same, "I'm Adam, it's so nice to finally meet you", he smiled warmly, "likewise", you smiled back.
"You can call me Cisca, darling. We've heard so much about you, it's nice to finally put a face to the name", she winked at you as you didn't miss Lando elbowing his mother as he closed his eyes, sighing at her, "thank you for having me over, I hope it's not too much trouble", you thanked again, feeling more at ease at their genuine welcoming greetings.
Lando quickly scrambled an answer, seemingly not wanting his parents to talk, "of course it's fine, no trouble here! Let's get your things upstairs so we can settle in and work!", he clapped his hands, walking to the corridor and up the stairs with Max as you excused yourself.
"This is your room, you have the bathroom on the next door", he pointed on the corridor after he placed your bag and backpack down in the small sofa, "Max is in the office, it's just across the hall and I'm at the end of the hall, if you need anything", Lando offered.
"Thanks, again. Do you guys want to begin now? I just need to put on some fluffy socks and I'm good to go", you said, "yes! Is the dining room okay with your parents? The table is big enough to layout everyhting", Max chirped in, whistling at your room as he looked around, "she got an upgrade, good move!", he tapped his friend's back.
After Lando cleared it with his parents, he was quick to remove the table runner and flower vase from the dining room table, extending it to its biggest size so you had all the space you needed, "you can sit here, Y/N, it's usually where the room heats up faster", he pointed out the radiator, pulling up the chair next to your and typing on his iPad.
"So this is the video idea? I like it, we just need to find some background music for it", Max asserted, grabbing his phone to check the time, "we should get going to pick up the order", he uttered.
"Do you need all of us to go?", you asked, saying the changes in your laptop as you did,
"You can pull your the backseats of your car down, can't you, Max? That way we can bring more boxes, and you and me go", Lando reasoned, looking over at you, "do you mind staying here while we go get them?", he asked, not wanting you to feel uncomfortable.
"I'll be fine, you go", you smiled, opening your notebook and writing down some notes.
"Oh, darling, you could've turned the lights on. Soon enough you'll be like me and need glasses", Cisca said as she stood on by the door, flickering the lights on as your eyes got used to the brightness, "I already wear them, or I should more often anyway", you blushed, suddenly getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar, grabbing your case from your backpack and putting them on.
When Lando and Max left, you decided to work on the website graphics, checking how the campaign would work with the current layout, that you lost track of time.
"May I see what you're working on?", she asked, "it's okay if I may not, I don't want to intrude", she smiled as you pulled up the chair next to you, "I don't know much about these things, but I always get quite fascinated with this part", she said, sitting down and looking at the screen.
Already driving back home, Lando and Max talked about the plans once they arrived, "and that way Y/N can also finish the social media stuff, and maybe you'll have more time to actually make a move on her", he teased.
Lando scoffed, "I'm not trying to make a move on her", he defended himself, "I'm glad to know, because if those moves were what you had, it wouldn't surprise it that it didn't go very far", Max yelped as his friend took the opportunity of the straight road ahead to hit his thigh, "so that's what you talk about? Here I am thinking about business and you're meddling in my love life?".
"I never said it was love life, but since you've admitted it, it's saving me time. So, what are you planning? I could help since this seems to be stalled", Max tried again, holding his hands in protection of his body in case Lando hit him again.
"I wouldn't know where to begin, I mean, it will make things awkward if this goes south, right? I'd never be able to look at her again, much less work with her", Lando admitted, "She's very kept to herself as well, I highly doubt that she'll want to be involved with me in that way. Whoever I date or interact with has to deal with enormous amount of public eye and I wouldn't spring that up on her", Lando mumbled, taking the road exit on his left.
"So you've given this some thought, too. Here we are thinking you're coming to the meetings to help and now you're just blushing when we talk about Y/N", Max joked back as Lando shook his head.
"We're back!", Lando announced, walking inside the dining room while pushing the boxes with Max, "don't worry, mum, we're not scratching the floors", he said, sweetly kissing the side of her head, "are you planning to work for us?", he noticed she was sitting next to you, notebooks of the projects open and sheets and fabrics all over the table in front of you.
"Y/N was kindly showing me the project you're working on, for the launch, and it looks really nice!", she complimented, placing a hand on your shoulder and the other on your arm, "she's been showing me everything, I've probably stolen some valuable time from you, darling, I'm sorry", she slumped her shoulders slightly, "not at all, it's all under way, don't worry", you smiled, easing her worries, "I'll leave you guys to it, how about I make some tea?", she suggest as the three of you nodded.
"We have the boxes here, they're sorted by colours", Lando opened the first box, "these are only for the Originals collection, right?", you checked over, peaking at the blue hoodie he pulled out.
"The sizing is right, right?", Max wondered as Lando stretched it out, "Y/N, can you try these, please? We need to check if the model is good for guys and girls".
Getting up from your spot, you grabbed the vibrant blue piece, feeling its soft texture against your fingertips, "I have wider hips that average, I'm not sure I'm the greatest test model for that", you shrugged your shoulders, "keep that in mind". Taking off your sweater so your torso was covered in a strappy top, you pulled the new garment on, adjusting the strings around the neck so you could pull it all the way down, "Oh, it's so soft", you noticed, "and warm, too. And feels quite good actually, it's not too tight", fumbling with the ribbed material on the bottom as you checked yourself out on the windows now that it was dark outside.
Lando gulped as you did so. Oh, had Lando noticed your hips. To anyone else, it would be another feature of your body, but he was enamoured by them. Your body's curvy outline enticed him and he would be lying if he said that it wasn't the first thing he noticed at first glance when you arrived for you last interview, especially with the tapered pants you had been wearing.
"Looks nice. What do you think, mate?", Max turned to Lando, hoping to get an answer but finding him looking at you, "is there something wrong? I told you I'm not the best mo-".
"It's gorgeous, looks gorgeous", he breathed out just as his mother walked inside carrying a tray with tea and some biscuits, "Here's the tea, guys", she said, setting it on the table, "wow, that's a very nice piece!", she complimented.
"It is, isn't it, Cisca?", Max said, covering up her son as he kept looking at you as you tested the front pocket, not noticing his gaze on you.
"You also have a very beautiful model, you can't ignore that factor in the equation", she complimented you while you grabbed a mug, taking a sip of the warm liquid and hoping it hid your pink cheeks, "thank you", you whispered.
While Lando helped his father with dinner, Max convinced his mother to show you both family albums, and once you had the delicious food they prepared, you excused yourself so you could use the shower, wanting to wash the day of travelling away. Max and Cisca stayed in the living room while Lando helped his father prepare dessert, checking on the apple crumble in the oven so it could get golden brown and not burnt, "so, any life updates recently?", the older man asked.
Lando wasn't around as much as they both would've liked, so often times his visits also came along with news and updates, "not much, racing has been good, it's nice to have a break now, even if it's just two weeks", he offered, looking at the oven.
"And nothing else? I mean, no one special? Your mother is usually the blunt one, but I'm going to try it myself: Y/N is just a Quadrant Team Member?", Adam questioned, noticing his son's cheeks become redder.
"Is it that noticeable? I just hope she doesn't see it as much as you do", Lando groaned, rubbing his cheeks, "maybe you should hope she notices, you know? Maybe she'll admit she likes you, too. You never know", Adam patted his son's back, grabbing the gloves so he could take the tray out of the oven, "she seems like a really nice girl, kind, good work ethic, intelligent, and she's beautiful", he finished as his son sighed, grabbing the vanilla ice cream from the freezer, "she's all of that and so much more".
.
"Kygo is doing a set tonight", you heard Max say as you walked inside the living room, taking the spot on the sofa next to Lando since his mother had taken your previous spot when you went to use the bathroom, "I've been meaning to ask you guys if you wanted to go, actually. He texted me saying to tell him if we were planning on going", Lando stated.
"Go and enjoy being young, life is not all about work if you can't enjoy yourself", Cisca shared, "dad and I won't complain if you make noise when you get back", she winked.
"Would you like to go, Y/N? You can say no, that's fine, too", Lando turned to you. He knew Max would be down on a heartbeat, but he didn't want you to feel pressured to do something you didn't want to because you were at his parents' place as a guest.
"I'm good, I like his music, too. I've been wanting to see him live for a bit, actually", you smiled, thinking about how lucky you were to be able to have these experiences because of your job and friends.
Later that night, you're getting ready in your room, sitting on the carpeted floor and applying your make-up for the occasion. The dressier outfit you had brought with you consisted of a burnt red top and some pants as it had become the outfit you had felt the most comfortable and confident in to go out. The top complimented your chest and your midsection as your pants looked really good around your hips and butt, your legs elongated by the small heeled shoes you had spent years looking for. They were comfortable, pretty and functional, ticking all the boxes for what you needed for tonight.
"Y/N, can I come in?", your heard Lando knock on the door, welcoming himself when you said he could, "we are leaving in about ten minutes, if that's okay", he said, taking a good look at you as you fiddled with your earring, "yes, fine by me", you smiled looking back in the mirror propped on the bedside table and finally clasping it, looking back at him.
You took his breath away. It was as simple as that. Your hair had your natural curls he loved so much, your makeup complimented your naturally soft beautiful features and your outfit made you look incredible.
"You guys ready?", Max patted the door, propping himself on it as you grabbed your shoes, "I'll put them on downstairs", you said, carrying them in your right hand as you had your small purse on the left.
While you did the small, dainty tie on your shoes, Lando's eyes went straight for your chest, the slightly bent down position granting him an agonisingly teasing angle as he tried his best to look away, "you might want to be less obvious, you don't need to creep her out to get her to be yours", Max whispered in Lando's ear.
As soon as you arrived, Lando and Max walked with you to the VIP area, asking you what you wanted to drink before they went up to get it.
Lando looked great on his white shirt, the light coloured shirt looking great against his tanned skin as the relaxed fit complimented his back, prompting you to make sure you weren't drooling in public. You worked for his company, it would never be a good idea to get romantically involved with him, no matter how many times your heart leaped.
"A very weak Gin and Tonic for you, as requested", Max said as he pushed the cup towards you, carrying nother drink for himself, Lando sitting next to you on the booth and empty handed, "you're not drinking?", you asked, "I'm driving us all home today, I'm want to do it safely", he stated, tapping his hands on the table when he saw Kygo, signalling him to approach you.
"Hey Lando, Max", he smiled, "I'm Y/N, I work for Quadrant", you smiled, greeting him with a half hug as he introduced himself too, "my set is in a few minutes, you got here just in time. If you want to see it up close, Y/N, let me know and I'll make it happen", he winked at you.
The wink was not missed by Lando or Max. While Max wanted to laugh at his friend's jealous expression, threatening to send the norwegian DJ to a place that was less than nice and sunny, Lando couldn't believe his eyes. Yes, it was only fair that others, too, saw your beauty and noticed you, but to put themselves out like that, that was a different story. You didn't seem to bothered by all of it, sipping on your drink as you spoke to Max, pointing out different people you remember from Silverstone earlier that year.
"Kygo's starting, I want to dance!", you said, getting up and gesturing for the boys to join you. While you were used to having a lot less space to dance in, the welcomed freedom was appreciated as you playfully placed your pointer finger on Max's head, making him do a little spin, "now, no need to be jealous, Lando, you can twirl, too!", you yelled over the music blasting from the speakers, doing the same and sinking your finger on Lando's curls.
"I'm going to get another drink, want anything?", Max asked, excusing himself when you shook your head, "you know you can drink, I'm the designated driver", Lando offered, "I know, thank you for that. I just don't want to drink more", you smiled, recognising the next song, feeling brave and pulling Lando by his hand so he could dance with you.
I never knew anybody 'til I knew you
I never knew anybody 'til I knew you
And I know when it rains, oh, it pours
And I know I was born to be yours
Lando twirled you would face him, chest flush against his as his colourful eyes looked into yours intensely, "I know this is very forward, and very unlike me to be fair, but I need to get it out", he gulped as he spoke loudly in your ear, looking for any sign of discomfort from you, "I really like you, like, a lot. And I would like to know if you feel the same. Because Max and my parents seem to think you do, but all I know they're just saying so that I shut up about how much I love you and how much it would mean to me", he spoke loudly against your ear as the song played.
You were struck by his confession, not expecting it to ever happen, much less like this and in these circumstances.
"If you consider this a hostile work environment, I didn't want that, but I had to be honest with you", he gulped, "just say you don't feel the same and I'll drop the subject, okay? I might have to pretend to go somewhere else so I can be away from you a bit until things are not awkward, but don't worry, I won't drink because I'm driving and-", Lando belted out before you interrupted him, moving your face closer to his neck this time and speaking into his ear, "It's not hostile if it's consensual, right?", you smiled, a glint in your eye as his own widened, chuckling as he sang the the words in your ear, taking the opportunity to kiss your cheek near your earlobe.
"Took you two fucking long enough!", Max yelled as he approached you, tapping Lando's back in congratulations, "you know what this means, Y/N? I won't have to listen to him mope about how he thinks he was made for you and you were made for him, and that the universe would have to be playing a very bad joke of you two didn't end up together!".
"What makes you think I'll stop that? I just got the girl of my dreams, now I'll have the confirmations of all I've said! You'll just hear how amazing all of it is!", Lando smiled, hugging you close to him and kissing the top of your head.

Italian Audio/Books/Videos Masterlist
Now that I’m at the upper A2/lower B1 level for Italian, I figured I’d compile a quick list of where I’ve found the best stuff to read and listen to.
E-Books and Audiobooks
Kobo Rakuten Italia — where I buy my ebooks. You can read them online, in the app, or download them and [redacted] to export them elsewhere. Has a monthly unlimited subscription that functions like a combo Kindle/Audible subscription.
Storytel — monthly subscription for unlimited access to audiobooks.
YouTube
Learn Italian With Lucrezia — truly the savior of anyone learning Italian. My favorite videos are her Q&As, vlogs, and “n basic phrases you need to know.” I don’t get much out of her grammar explainer videos but that’s because of who I am as a person.
NovaLectio — commentary style mini documentaries. I export them to LingQ to read before watching and it helps me parse what’s going on. Also, they upload some videos dubbed in English so you can watch both.
Vogue Italia — celebrity interviews and fashion content. About 50/50 Italian and English but obviously high production value.
ArtandtheCities — criminally underrated channel imo. 10-15 minute art history/industry videos by an art historian. Super interesting, she’s easy to understand, and has captions.
Chef Max Mariola — utter chaos but fun. A Roman chef cooking various dishes, sometimes with a guest. Gives very “your uncle is hosting Thanksgiving and forgot until yesterday” vibes but in the best way.
TV/Movies/Documentaries
RaiPlay (free!) — Italian version of PBS. Lots of documentaries and some kind of goofy soap operas/narrative shows. You can also watch live TV.
Podcasts and Radio
RaiPlay Sound — basically NPR. Also free! You can find podcasts, live radio stations, audiobooks, and even audio descriptions of movies and TV shows.
Articles
Formula 1 Italia — Formula 1 news. I’m a big Ferrari fan but they cover a lot of news/current events (as long as they can connect it to a driver). The writing is short and to the point so it’s easy to parse for beginners. And honestly the drama is better than a lot of TV shows.
Stile Arte — long, more complex articles about art and archaeology. Cannot recommend it enough if you have an interest in any of those things. There are some straightforward history articles at the B1/B2 level, and also some more creative essays that push C1.
Corriere della Sera — daily news site. I started reading the news only in Italian to keep me from doom scrolling because America is terrifying. This is just the site I have ended up using a lot. Mostly because it’s easy to navigate and they have a ton of content.

@d-genie I'll reply here so I can link the resources. I separated the resources by topic to make things easier. Hope this helps!
General Learning
HelloChinese: arguably the best app for learning Chinese. It covers grammar, pronunciation, vocab, and writing characters. It's free up to HSK2 and I used it all the time when I first learned Chinese.
Duolingo: similar to HelloChinese but it lacks a lot. I still use it because it's free and I can practice sentence structure.
Dictionaries
PurpleCulture: a website with a ton of learning tools. I use the dictionary here because it says which HSK level the word is, breaks down the character into different radicals, and also gives a way to memorize the character.
Baidu: I use Baidu's translation app when there's more than one word in a sentence I don't understand. I paste the whole sentence there, and it provides a list of words and their meanings. You can also highlight a word you don't know, and its meaning will pop up.
Pleco: an app dictionary. It's good but I'm usually on my computer and it's easier to look up words there. So, I only use Pleco as a backup.
Grammar and Reading Comprehension
AllSetLearning: website that breaks down grammar points and provides sample sentences. I use this one a lot!
Du Chinese: a graded reader app/website that guides users through short stories. It's a great tool but I find it boring and often struggle to finish the stories.
Weibo: once you become more advanced and if you can set up an account, weibo's a great way to build up character recognition and reading comprehension.
Miscellaneous
Youku TV Shows: A lot of their TV shows on youtube have both the Chinese and English embedded into the video (like above). It's a great way to improve listening comprehension as well as character recognition. When I became too busy to study, watching Chinese TV shows helped me retain a lot.
WriterChinese: an app that focuses on writing Chinese. It's free up to a certain level. This is one of the few things I spent money on because you pay a one time fee and it unlocks a lot.
Daomubiji.org: a website that has most of the online versions of dmbj novels. I've read some of the novels for practice.

Sheriff’s Bargain
Characters: Beau Arlen x F/Reader Y/N
Summary: Y/N, a seasoned con artist, is arrested after returning to Montana, where her past comes back to haunt her in the form of Sheriff Beau Arlen—the man she abandoned five years ago. Facing charges linked to a drug lord, she’s offered a deal to work as an informant. Torn between her criminal life and lingering feelings for Beau, Y/N must decide whether to help him bring down the crime ring or continue running from her past.
Warnings: Mentioning of breaking the law
English is not my first language

I’ve always lived by one rule: never get attached. It’s a good rule when your life revolves around lies, schemes, and the occasional robbery. My world was all about the next con, the next score. Keep it simple. Keep it clean. And most importantly, never catch feelings.
But then I swiped right on Beau Arlen.
It all started with a silly swipe on an online dating app. I’d been scrolling aimlessly, a glass of wine in hand, bored out of my mind, when his profile caught my eye. Tall, rugged, with an easy smile and sun-kissed hair, he was the definition of all-American charm.
Sheriff.
That little detail was tucked away in his bio, barely noticeable. I knew then it wasn’t just boredom pulling me into a potential meet-up; this was a chance. Law enforcement wasn’t usually my playground, but something about him made me curious. A sheriff? That kind of information could be worth a lot in the right hands.
I was hooked. So, I did what I do best. I played the part—Y/N, the carefree, slightly adventurous girl just looking for a connection. We started chatting, and he was exactly what I expected—kind, witty, a little rough around the edges but warm. He was also recently divorced. No kids. And I learned, without even asking, that I was the first woman he’d dated since. That little fact should’ve sent warning bells off in my head, but instead, it intrigued me. Made me want to know more about him, which was the first sign I was slipping.
I could already picture our first date, where I’d play innocent and sweet while subtly probing for information. The game was on.
Two days later, I found myself in the dimly lit corner of a small bar in Austin, Texas, waiting for Beau to arrive. The place was a quiet little spot on the outskirts of town, not flashy but comfortable. The kind of place where people didn’t ask too many questions, which worked perfectly for me.
I caught my reflection in the glass behind the bar—subtle makeup, a touch of vulnerability in my expression, nothing to hint at what I was really up to. It was all part of the game. I had done this a hundred times before. The thrill of deception, of being in control, made my blood hum with excitement.
Then the door swung open, and there he was. Even in the dim light, Beau Arlen commanded the room. He spotted me, his eyes lighting up with that easy-going smile. It hit me—he wasn’t just handsome. He had a presence. Something solid. Steady.
I hadn’t expected that.
“Y/N, right?” His voice was deep, with a Southern drawl that made my skin tingle. I smiled, standing up to meet him.
“That’s me. Beau, right?” I played it cool, though my heart was beating a little faster than usual. I chalked it up to the challenge ahead.
As the night went on, we talked and laughed, and I skillfully steered the conversation, dropping little hints, hoping he’d spill some intel about the sheriff’s department or something juicy I could sell to one of my mob contacts. But he didn’t take the bait.
Instead, he told me about growing up in Texas, his time in law enforcement, and how hard the divorce had been on him. How he hadn’t dated anyone seriously since the split. I was the first. The way he said it, so matter-of-fact, yet vulnerable, made something inside me twist. This wasn’t just another target. This was a good man, a man who had been hurt. A man who trusted me.
That’s when I felt the first crack in my carefully built walls.
One date turned into two. Then three. Each time, I told myself it was just part of the plan. I’d get the information I needed, make my move, and disappear before he ever realized who I really was. That’s how it always went. But every time I met up with Beau, something shifted.
I found myself laughing more. Enjoying his company. He was good. Not in the usual way I was used to, not someone trying to get something from me. He was just good. And damn it, that scared me.
The night we were supposed to go to a local diner, I had a plan. I'd go home with him and I’d dug around, found out where Beau kept his work laptop. All I had to do was slip away while he was distracted, clone his drive, and sell the sheriff’s department intel to the highest bidder.
Easy.
Except it wasn’t.
We sat in his truck after dinner, parked by a lake just outside the city, and he looked at me—really looked at me. Not like I was Y/N, the girl I pretended to be, but like he saw something deeper. Something real. His thumb brushed against my hand, and for a second, I forgot what I was supposed to be doing.
“You know, I didn’t expect this,” he said softly, his voice rumbling like distant thunder.
“Expect what?” I asked, my heart doing weird somersaults in my chest.
“To actually like you,” he said, turning to face me fully. “I mean, I thought you were pretty, sure, but this… it feels like more.”
My breath hitched. This wasn’t part of the plan. I wasn’t supposed to feel… anything. But I did.
I’d conned a hundred men before Beau. And not once had I ever felt guilty. Not once had I ever hesitated. But now, looking into his eyes, I knew I was in trouble.
“I don’t think you’re telling me everything,” he added, his voice soft but firm, like he knew something was off but wasn’t sure what.
My pulse raced. Did he know? Had he figured me out?
I could end it here. Lie. Run. Disappear like I always did. But then, he leaned closer, his hand brushing a strand of hair behind my ear, and I couldn’t do it. Not this time.
“Beau, I—” I stopped myself, words failing me for the first time in forever.
I pulled away just before his lips could touch mine.
“I—I’m sorry, Beau. I can’t.”
I scrambled out of the truck, my heart pounding, and started walking. I didn’t know where I was going, just that I had to get away. I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t let him in.
“Y/N!” Beau called after me, his voice tinged with confusion and worry. “Wait! What’s wrong?”
I kept walking, my breath coming in shallow bursts. I heard his footsteps behind me, getting closer until his hand caught my wrist, gently pulling me to a stop.
“What’s going on?” he asked, his eyes searching mine.
I wanted to tell him. I wanted to spill everything, but I couldn’t. Instead, I surged forward and kissed him. Soft, quick, just a taste of what could’ve been. When I pulled back, Beau looked at me, eyes wide with confusion.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my throat tightening. “This isn’t working out.”
The hurt flashed in his eyes, but I didn’t wait for him to respond. I turned and walked away, each step feeling like I was ripping my own heart out.
By the time I got back to my apartment, I had made my decision. I couldn’t stay in Texas. Not with Beau here. If I did, I’d only end up hurting him worse. I packed my bags quickly, grabbing whatever I could fit, and disappeared into the night like I always did. No note, no goodbye. Just gone.
Five years.
It had been five years since I left Texas. Since I left Beau. I told myself it was for the best, that he deserved someone better. Someone real. I moved from city to city, pulling cons, making deals, and trying to forget the way he made me feel.
But I never did.
And now, here I was, back in Montana. The last place I ever thought I’d return to. The past, the one I’d tried to bury beneath years of schemes and lies, still haunted me in the form of a tall, rugged sheriff named Beau Arlen.
I thought of him more times than I cared to admit. His smile, his voice, the way he looked at me like I was someone worth knowing. Someone real. I was too much of a coward to look him up, to even think about reaching out. Instead, I did what I did best—hid behind the shadows. I checked his Facebook like some creep, scrolling through his life from the safety of a screen, always too afraid to hit that “Add Friend” button. He looked happy. He seemed like he’d moved on.
I told myself I had too. I built a flawless career as a private contractor, stealing, selling intel, playing my cards right with every dangerous figure I crossed. Everything was perfect.
--
Five years of dodging bullets and walking out of every con cleanly came to a crashing halt. I got caught. They found a trail leading back to me. Somehow, they connected me to an old case in this godforsaken town. I didn’t even remember the details anymore. I’d worked for a drug baron here once, years ago. A minor job. But I should have known better than to think I could outrun every ghost from my past.
The small, gray interrogation room smelled like stale coffee and disinfectant. I sat at the table, my hands cuffed in front of me, but I wasn’t worried. I’d been in tighter spots before, and I was always good at talking my way out. If I played this right, I could convince them I was just another innocent woman in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But what I wasn’t prepared for had just walked into the room.
The door swung open, and there he was. Beau.
Sheriff Beau Arlen.
The world seemed to stop as he stepped into the room, his broad frame filling the doorway. He was even more rugged than I remembered—his shoulders a little broader, his face a little more weathered, like the years had hardened him in ways I hadn’t expected. But his eyes—those sharp, piercing eyes—still had that same warmth I used to get lost in. Except now, there was something else there. Something colder. Something guarded.
I swallowed hard, my heart slamming against my ribcage as his gaze locked on me. For a second, I thought I saw recognition flash across his face, but he didn’t give anything away. He just stood there, towering over me, a shadow from my past I couldn’t ignore any longer.
"Well," he said slowly, his voice low and steady, "this is a surprise."
I forced a smile, my brain scrambling for something to say, something that would make this less awkward, less… devastating.
“Beau,” I breathed, the sound of his name on my lips feeling both familiar and foreign. “Sheriff in Montana now, huh?”
He raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned against the doorframe. “Yeah. A lot’s changed since you ran out on me.”
I flinched at the reminder, feeling the weight of my past mistakes crashing down on me. I opened my mouth to respond, but nothing came out. I wasn’t prepared for this. I wasn’t prepared for him.
Beau pushed off the wall and walked slowly toward the table, his eyes never leaving mine. “You were always good at disappearing, Y/N. But I gotta say, I didn’t expect you to turn up in my town again. And especially not like this.”
I couldn’t help the bitter laugh that escaped me. “Trust me, neither did I.”
He sat down across from me, his expression unreadable. The tension between us was thick, the weight of everything unsaid pressing down on both of us. I wanted to explain, to tell him why I left, but the words stuck in my throat. What could I say? That I was scared? That I wasn’t good enough for him?
“So,” he said, breaking the silence. “Are you gonna tell me what you’ve been up to these last few years? Or do I have to guess?” He motioned the map in front of him.
I swallowed hard, trying to maintain my composure. The old me—the con artist—was good at staying cool under pressure. But sitting here, across from Beau, my past and present crashing together, I felt completely exposed.
“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you,” I said, forcing a smirk I didn’t feel.
His gaze hardened slightly. “Try me.”
I leaned back in my chair, trying to regain some control. “It’s not what it looks like. I wasn’t involved in that mess you claim. Yeah, I worked for a guy who… let’s just say he wasn’t exactly on the right side of the law. But that was a long time ago.”
Beau didn’t say anything, just watched me with those intense eyes, waiting for more. I could feel him seeing through every half-truth, every lie I was about to tell.
“Look,” I sighed, “I’m good at what I do. Too good, apparently. But I’m not the bad guy here. I didn’t expect to get dragged into some old case. It’s a misunderstanding.”
He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a whisper. “And what should I believe, Y/N? The woman who ran out on me without a word? Or the con artist who’s sitting in front of me now?”
My breath caught in my throat, his words cutting deeper than I’d expected. He knew. He’d known all along what I was. And I’d left him to deal with the pieces.
“I never meant to hurt you,” I said softly, my voice cracking.
Beau’s jaw clenched, the tension rolling off him in waves. “Anyway.”
The silence between us stretched on, heavy and suffocating. I didn’t know what to say. For once, I had no plan, no angle. It was just me and him, with all the lies I’d told hanging between us.
Finally, Beau stood up, his expression unreadable. “You’ll have your chance to explain everything in court. Until then, you’re staying here.”
He turned to leave, but just before he walked out the door, he stopped and glanced back at me, his eyes softer, almost sad.
“Five years, Y/N,” he said quietly. “I waited for you to come back. But I guess I never thought it would be like this.”
And just like that, he was gone. The door closed behind him with a finality that echoed through the empty room.
I leaned back in my chair, staring at the cold, metal table in front of me. I had been prepared to face the law, the consequences of my actions.
But I wasn’t prepared to face Beau.
--
After hours of being questioned and trying to maintain my calm facade, they finally led me to a cell for the night. The cold metal bars and uncomfortable cot were a far cry from the life I’d gotten used to. But it wasn’t the first time I found myself behind bars—though, this time, the stakes felt higher. This time, it wasn’t just a con gone wrong or a deal gone sideways. This time, it was Beau.
The weight of the past—the lies, the broken promises—pressed on my chest as I lay on the thin mattress, staring at the ceiling. I replayed the moment he walked into that interrogation room over and over in my mind. The look in his eyes, the way he had spoken to me like I was both a stranger and someone he knew too well. Five years, and it felt like no time had passed. I hated that I still cared. I hated that he still had that effect on me.
I closed my eyes, willing myself to sleep, but the memories wouldn’t let me rest. What could have been. What I’d lost.
By morning, I was exhausted, but I wasn’t surprised when Beau showed up again. This time, though, there was something different in his demeanor. Less tension, more determination.
He stepped into the cell block, arms crossed as he leaned against the bars. “You look like hell,” he said, though there was a flicker of something softer in his tone.
“Thanks, Sheriff,” I muttered, pushing myself up to sit on the edge of the cot. “It’s not exactly the Four Seasons in here.”
He didn’t smile. His eyes, clear and unreadable, stayed locked on mine as he walked over and unlocked the door.
“We need to talk,” Beau said, his voice low, all business. “I’ve got a proposition for you.”
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite myself. “A proposition? Let me guess, you’re about to offer me a way out of here if I spill some dirt?”
He shrugged, leaning against the wall with that infuriating calm of his. “Something like that. Here’s the deal: you work with us on this case, become an informant, and help us bring down the drug ring you were involved with years ago. In return, I’ll see what I can do about your punishment.”
I tilted my head, narrowing my eyes. “What do you have on me, Beau? Because I don’t think you’re offering this out of the kindness of your heart.”
For a moment, his expression hardened, but then he sighed. “Right now? We’ve only got this case—the drug operation from a few years back. We can link you to some old players, but nothing major... Yet.” He paused, letting the weight of his words settle in.
“But I’m good at digging, Y/N. If I want to, I’ll find more. I know now how you operate. You’ve left a trail, and it’s only a matter of time before I catch up to it.”
My stomach tightened. He wasn’t bluffing, and I knew it. I’d done a lot of things over the years, and if Beau really wanted to bring me down, he could. He’d find enough to keep me locked up for a long time.
“So, what?” I asked, leaning back against the wall and crossing my arms. “You want me to turn informant, feed you intel on the people I worked with, and in exchange, you’ll make sure I don’t rot in here for the rest of my life?”
“Pretty much.” His voice was even, controlled. “You help us, and I’ll do what I can to make sure you walk away from this with as little damage as possible.”
I stared at him, trying to gauge if this was a trick, but I knew Beau well enough to know he didn’t play games like I did. He was giving me a chance—a real one. Maybe the only one I’d get.
I looked down at my hands, the cuffs no longer around my wrists but the weight of the offer felt just as binding. Was this the way out? The part of me that had always survived by running wanted to take the deal, to keep my head above water and stay one step ahead of the law. But there was another part of me, the one that had started to unravel the moment Beau walked into that interrogation room, that wondered if I was finally done running.
“Fine,” I said after a long silence, my voice steady. “I’ll do it. I’ll work with you. But I want to know what I’m dealing with here. How much danger am I in?”
Beau’s lips pressed into a thin line. “The drug baron you worked for, Declan King, is still a player. He’s gone underground, but his network is vast, and we’ve been after him for years. You’ve got connections. You’ve got intel. That’s why we need you.” He paused, his eyes darkening slightly.
“But make no mistake, Y/N—if King or his people find out you’re working with us, you’ll be in more danger than just sitting in this cell.”
I swallowed, nodding. I knew what I was getting into. Hell, I’d danced with danger my whole life. This was just another step in the same game.
“Alright, Sheriff,” I said, standing up and meeting his gaze. “I’m in. I’ll help you take down King.”
Beau didn’t move for a moment, just stared at me like he was trying to figure out if I was bluffing. But then he nodded once, curtly. “Good. You’ll start today. We’ll set up a safe line of communication, and you’ll feed us whatever you know. But don’t think for a second this is going to be easy. One misstep, and this deal’s off.”
I forced a smile, though my heart was pounding in my chest. “Don’t worry. I don’t make missteps.”
His eyes flickered with something—something I couldn’t quite read—but he turned to leave, pausing just before stepping out of the cell.
“And, Y/N?” he said, his voice soft but laced with warning. “This isn’t just about you getting out of trouble. I expect you to come through on this. Don’t make me regret giving you this chance.”
The door shut behind him, and I was left alone in the cell, the reality of the deal sinking in. I had agreed to work with the law—to work with Beau—and for the first time in my life, I wasn’t sure if I was doing the right thing or setting myself up for a fall.
But one thing was certain: there was no turning back now.

I’m so tired here are some assorted Disventure Camp headcanons:
•Jake is really into poetry. Some of his poems are bangers, some of them are absolute dogshit. He posts some of them online, mostly the bad ones because he’s not self-aware of how bad they are. He will spend hours on end writing in his notes app. Guy is a big fan of sonnets and free verse but his strong suits are odes and villanelles
•Rosa María, James, Yul, Lake, Riya, Fiore, and Alec are all multilingual. Rosa speaks English and Spanish, James speaks Portuguese and English, Yul speaks Korean and English, Lake speaks German and English as well as some French, Riya speaks Hindi and English, Fiore speaks English and some Italian, and Alec speaks English as well as a variety of other languages (he did a minor in linguistics for his university degree so he knows the basics of multiple major languages).
•Hunter’s a competitive chess player. Ally’s the only person who’s ever beat him fair and square, but even then, that rarely happens
•Lake is great at baking. She’s incredibly exact when it comes to measurements, timing, and technique. Rosa, meanwhile, is a great cook and she doesn’t measure anything
•Aiden can play bass guitar. He started learning as a teenager because he wanted to join an emo band one day. Chase your dreams boy
•Yul used to have braces and he’s really embarrassed about it
•Gabby’s a forager, she loves to forage for wild fruit and mushrooms and greens
•Ellie’s kinda a ghoul in the kitchen. Like she can make good food and drinks but most of the time she’s so tired that she makes evil energy drink-instant coffee potions or like that pistachio & condensed milk concoction from Arthur
•In a better universe I think Ellie and Jake are frenemies instead of fully hating each other and they play Minecraft together and Ellie is constantly stealing Jake’s shit and trying to defeat the Ender Dragon meanwhile he screams every time he sees a Creeper and begs her to turn Keep Inventory on because he keeps dying
•Miriam gets a cat after the show. She’s an older white cat named Snowball and she has the same personality as her. They are best friends and Miriam is so annoyed by her. She made them matching sweaters. Snowball is only fully nice to Jake
•Fiore listens to Thrash Metal. It’s partially just to throw people off when they find out, she thinks it’s funny
•Fiore also enjoys those YouTube prank videos, she knows they’re fake they’re just so stupid that she finds them hilarious. Kristal gives her an iPad for a day one time for entertainment and it pisses the rest of the Magenta team off so bad because she keeps playing these prank videos and watching epic fail compilations at full volume
•Grett loves crocheting. She slowly turns into one of those people who crochets during lectures and while watching movies and shit
•James is really good at Tetris
•Ally is obsessed with Sci-Fi. She, Tess, and Hunter watch Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Star Wars together because they all love the worldbuilding so much. Tess writes fanfiction about almost everything they watch. Hunter has terrible media literacy and misses the themes every time but he has fun watching
•After All Stars, Riya gets really into tattoos. She gets matching ones with Connor
•People antagonize Tom with the cop slide video and every time he clenches his fist and goes, “Stop laughing at him.”
•Kai has a bunch of pet bugs. Maggy’s secretly afraid of them still but she’s getting there. She likes rollie pollies
•Karol used to do roller derby and Lill used to ice skate. Ggirlf, riends,,, I miss them chat. Where is my old woman yuri
•Aiden eats plain yogurt nothing on it and it’s the one thing James doesn’t like about him. Like it’s so upsetting to him. Why does he eat plain yogurt
•Ashley likes hyperpop, don’t tell anyone
•Tom likes crockpot food. He is not invited to potlucks for this reason. He will always bring the crockpot
•Alec doesn’t like splatter films but he really enjoys psychological horror, especially mockumentaries and mondo films
•Lake read creepypasta a lot as a kid and she wouldn’t go into the kitchen after dark because she was afraid of Jeff the Killer appearing at her fridge

resources I'm using for studying japanese
vocab/kanji:
wanikani: I use daily reviews to learn kanji and vocabulary using the kanji. This resource isn't free, but this has really helped me stay consistent. I like the UI and find the content helpful
renshuu: this is my favorite mobile app, I use this to learn JLPT-specific vocab and kanji. I use the free version
mochi srs: the best flashcard app! The UI is super easy to use and has lots of shortcuts for making and reviewing cards fast. You can easily create and edit templates for cards, and have cards reference other cards. I have a deck for kanji and one for vocab, and my vocab template references any kanji that are used in the vocab tab. There's also super easy furigana, lots of features for japanese.
grammar:
bunpro: really good for grammar, this has lessons for each grammar rule and divides them into groups through popular textbooks and their own groupings for jlpt grammar
genki textbooks: pretty standard textbook for learning vocab, grammar, and kanji
genki study resources: great site with activities for all the genki lessons
tokini andy genki reviews: extra practice for genki lessons, explains some grammar more clearly, introduces new dialogue.
reading:
japanese folktales for language learners and japanese stories for language learners: folktales are a really great way to learn, because these references come up a lot. I've seen references to urashimo taro in evangelion, and the new pokemon dlc is a reference to momotaro. This book has the japanese on one page and english on the other, with vocabulary after the chapter. (here and here on natively)
animal crossing new leaf tobimori: I've recently started playing this and it's so much fun. I'm already really familiar with the game so I don't depend on any of the text for playing, and it's good for more common expressions, differences in speech between polite/casual/male/female etc. I have a post describing how I'm able to play this here. (here on lingotrack)
listening:
japanese with shun: big fan of this podcast, it's free on spotify and youtube, which scripts on patreon. Each podcast is about a short subject, and they're all in japanese. (here on lingotrack)
learn japanese pod: some free podcasts on spotify with more paid content, this one is both about japanese and in japanese. It will teach phrases for specific scenarios, like ordering sushi or refusing situations.
tracking:
lingotrack: I started time tracking a couple of months ago and it's been so helpful! This site is great for quickly logging study activities and seeing how the time stacks up. It helps me identify which areas I'm spending enough time in and which ones are lacking. I also use the library section for keeping track of my japanese native content
toggl: I use this online stopwatch for tracking the time for different study activities so I can log them in lingotrack. It also has a browser extension which I usually use
finding native content:
natively: excellent site for finding comprehensible input content and tracking days read. This site has a lot of reviews for books so it makes it easy to find books that are on level. You can follow me here
lingotrack: collections in lingotrack provides user generated groups of content so that you can create an see groupings of native material content. There aren't as many reviews for material here as there are for natively though, so I find material there and then add them here. You can follow me here
other:
tofugu: this blog has everything. Use it for finding reviews on japanese language resources, learning grammar rules, etc.
jisho: dictionary app, I use it as my source of truth for vocab and kanji meanings
heisig's remembering the kanji: a different approach to learning kanji, this focuses on first teaching the simplest kanji and building from ones you already know. This is different from wanikani, which will make sure you know (its own) particles before introducing the kanji that uses them, but focuses on learning kanji and vocab in priority order. I'm listing it here because I don't use it much anymore
deepl: ai translator, works much better than google translate. You can also put sentences in chatgpt and ask it for broken down explanations. Take any translations from ai with a grain of salt - they are great tools but do not ensure accuracy
edit 3/10/2024: added tracking and native content sections, added links to lingotrack and natively for media

Hello, Kimbap! May I request the overblot victims with an s/o who's got the ability to manipulate all kinds of electronics (computers, tvs, traffic lights) within her sight? She can also remotely control communication lines at quick speeds with this ability.
Wait that's such an interesting idea 😭 thank you for the ask! I'm sticking to the overblotters from the English version for this one ^^
Overblot students x s/o who can manipulate electronics/communications
Riddle
First doesn't really see the reason behind it, thinks it's cool but doesn't see himself necessarily asking for help
He tends to like using everything on pen and paper still, so if he has to write emails or do things online, he may ask you there. In return, he helps you with things like snail mail (his handwriting's beautiful btw)
I feel like overall he would find it to be cool and will ask you about your abilities just to learn more about you. However, he won't be needing your powers anytime soon (just more simple online help would be enough)
Leona
He will only ask for your help in the most basics of tasks like turning on or off the lights or putting his phone on "do not disturb"
Despite his lazier attitude, he's pretty alert. He knows for example if you're going to use your ability when doing homework (will ask you randomly) and he learns how you are able to manipulate electronics without asking you a lot of questions
I feel like Leona would've liked you for who you were whether or not he knew about your abilities, but nonetheless he does find it to be a pretty cool (and useful) one
Azul
He really likes your abilities and will ask you to help him create some kind of digital ordering app or reservation platform for his lounge hahaha
However he does also like learning from you about your abilities and perhaps about electronics in general (you might have a lot of knowledge on them just because you use them so often). He's still not the best when it comes to online platforms, so you can definitely help him there
He finds your ability to be fascinating! While he himself won't be needing as much help as perhaps some others, he does appreciate the little help you give him when running the lounge's digital side
Jamil
Will ask you how your ability came to be since it's really new to him. He likes learning about others anyways, so it's a nice thing for him to hear about!
Jamil might ask if you can hack into systems and if you can. For some reason I can see him going after scammers that try to target Kalim's computer haha. It might be kind of fun to prank them too
The vice dorm leader isn't the best with technology so you might want to help him out when you can. He'll deeply appreciate it, perhaps he'll make you some of your favorite foods in return!
Vil
You can turn off or block people that try to message him? Like all the crazy fans he has or his annoying manager? Great. He'll ask for your help
Vil's more tech-savvy than he looks, mainly because he has to keep his online presence so up to date. He however, likes how you can manipulate communications. He also likes that you can change traffic lights so whenever you two are going somewhere, expect him to ask you to use it
Though he may find your ability to be super useful, he still feels bad when asking for your help. He'll show you a lot of gratitude whenever you do end up helping him with something, perhaps in the form of a really expensive perfume haha
Idia
Probably the only one that uses your ability the most but you also like using it with him so it's a win-win situation
The internet speed in his room is like crazy high, some other Ignihyde students will ask how that's even possible. Like how can it just be Idia's room and specifically only when you're around haha
He would've been too shy to ask you for help at first, but seeing how he looked curious about your abilities you decided to help. Honestly now you two use it whenever you two play games together or watch anime (it's very convenient!)

When you introduced aac, did you think about alternatives such as sign language?
Not meant in any sort of negative way, just wondered if there were specific reasons you chose aac over other things, or if that was just the only realistic option for you.
Hey there! I did. I actually have been trying to learn ASL for many years off self taught online classes and apps. However, they aren’t the best for people with learning disabilities and it would never quite click in my brain. I know simple signs like, Yes, No, Please, Thank you, Wait, and some of the alphabet.
I chose AAC also because it’s English, and because I live in a state that primarily speaks English and has a very very small if any d/Deaf/\sign language users population, I needed something that I could use to communicate with the general population. Therefore I’ve chosen AAC over other methods.
I did recently sign up for an ASL class that is centered around disabled people and it’s two times a week over video call so it’s more class taught. So I hope I can learn sign language through there. I do want to be able to know sign language to be a secondary method of communication, but AAC will always probably be my main method of communication.
This was a very good question and thank you for asking! Have a lovely day anon.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best English Learning App
It will be rather helpful to state that learning English has become increasingly easy due to the numerous applications existing in the present day. However, when it comes to a large choice, deciding on the Best English Learning App might be a difficult task. These features & considerations are designed to guide you through the basic choices that will let you make a sound decision.
Identify Your Learning Goals
The following are some of the notable considerations to ensure that you choose the right English learning app: This is followed by an aptitude query that aims to know whether you are a first-time learner who is in a position to learn some of the simple grammar and the most important words so that you can begin with the language, or if you a good learner and you want to master the language by enhancing on the fluency and or the way you pronounce the language. Stating your objectives will go a long way in eliminating the numerous apps that are not pertinent to your needs.
Evaluate the Features
Interactive Lessons
English learning app should have challenging lessons that keep users busy and actively involved. Choose applications that give tasks for reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. It enables the learner to get an all-round learning since it does not focus on a single aspect.
Real-Life Conversations
It should be stressed that modeling actual dialogues is critical for achieving the goal of mastering the given language. Select an app that may contain a feature that engages users in dialogue simulations or the use of live practice sessions with speakers. They will assist you to become comfortable with the use of everyday language.
Progress Tracking
An effective app should be able to monitor and give feedback on the process of its users. To this end, tracking progress is important because it makes you keep focusing on your training while at the same time realizing that you are making progress. Search for those applications that have the option of test, quiz, and performance assessment.
Customizable Learning Paths
In this regard, every learner will do it at his or her level and in his or her way. The best English learning app must enable you to choose the way you want to learn depending on the level that you are at. In this way, learning can be personalized and thus be easier, more fun, and efficient for the learner.
Read Consumers’ Endorsements and Reservations
Users’ feedback and ratings were obtained to assess the usefulness and interactiveness of the application. Evaluate applications based on the rating that is given as well as the reviews of other people. Read the feedback carefully focusing on the issues connected with the application’s interface, content, and support.
Consider the Cost
Some of the English learning apps are free while others call for a slightly subscription fee. Another aspect that may deter candidates is the cost of their education; therefore, another thing you should do is to exercise your budget line and determine how much you are willing to spend to get an education. Note that a paid application may be endowed with additional possibilities and the content of a better quality.
Free vs. Paid Apps
Preferably, free applications are also viable since the user may not want to spend money on a subscription and engage in the application at a professional level. However, they may be limited by advertisement or restricted content of the information shared on the website. standard paid apps provide more features than free ones, do not contain ads, and have better support.
To complete a qualitative assessment of content, it is necessary to make the following evaluations:
Language Accuracy
Make sure that there is a proper language translation of the application. Best practice should suggest that it is designed by or reviewed by competent language practitioners. Insight into how to correct language such as grammar, spelling, and pronunciation is used in the apps.
Up-to-Date Material
Language keeps on changing and it is essential that whatever is being taught corresponds to the existing language. The best English learning app should be active and have fairly frequent updates of the content used in day-to-day communication and new vocabulary added.
Look for Additional Resources
The supplementary material such as cultural tips, idioms, and slang often forms part of a good English learning app. These extras can improve your learning and help you to grasp the language and its use in context.
Check for Offline Accessibility
Offline accessibility can be a strong suit, as can be seen with trawling the web with a laptop on the move and no constant connection to the internet. Several productions enable downloading lessons and practicing in the non-connected mode.
Try Before You Commit
Most of the applications come with a free trial period or a basic functionality of the application. These offers shall be used to try the application before subscribing due to the variety of features the application offers. This way, the use of the trial period will enable you to assess whether or not the application suits your learning style and preference.
Evaluate the User Interface
This was discovered to be very helpful in that a user-friendly interface reduces frustrations while learning. Self-learning English should be coupled with a design that is easy to comprehend and get around when choosing the best English learning app. Stay away from those applications which are complicated or filled up with a lot of options.
It has to be compatible with your device Often people purchase a new device but do not get a product that is compatible with it.
In this case, you have to ensure that the application that you are downloading supports your smartphone. It should not be grainy flicker, or freeze, with no technical problem, no matter if it is on a smartphone, a small or large tablet, or a computer.

Conclusion
Selecting the right app to learn English is a decision that one needs to make depending on certain factors such as your learning needs, the features, other user’s feedback, price, and quality of content. Thus, considering these criteria, one is likely to identify an application that will address the set goals and objectives in language learning. Happy learning!

Things for my Cars next gen fanfic because i want to share it and i have to many notes in my notes app so might aswell yank it on my blog cuz ill put this online anyways
I suddenly thought of this for no reason. But i thought if that funny lmao.
This story that im FINALLY working on again after 2 years revolves around Lightning and Sally's daughter Mary, shes a racer, her best friend and later crush Secret, Finn's son, as they grow up, discover the world around them and have your average Cars shenanigans :p with these also come Fernando and Felicia, Francesco's twins, Dusty's daughter Piper and King and Lynda's daughter and son, Morgan and Caleb.
Headcanons:
1. Languages languages
Felicia and Fernando are fluent in English, but they still speak Italian among each other, with Francesco or with the three of them. Sometimes they even swear in Italian. Secret is a Brit, and he sometimes tries to speak formal English with Mary around, but it mostly makes her laugh. Morgan and Caleb have a very Western accent (Piper used to joke on it)
2. DIFFERENT WORLDS
I love love love this trope so much most of the time. Especially in this Cars fic since i have SO much to work with.
Maria Victory McQueen
Mary was born in and grew up in Radiator Springs, learned how to race on dirt, learned respect and hard work, she can sing, she likes to dance, she shows tourists around town and she helps in the businesses of the other cars.
Secret Leland McMissile
Secret grew up in a very organized, more strict environment, already being involved with C.H.R.O.M.E when he was very young. He became a C.H.R.O.M.E trainee when he was 12, guided and trained by his parents. Secret became an official spy when he was 18, but before that he was already very serious and quiet. Secret has a hard time getting out of his comfort zone, but he tries his best. He is very hard working and he likes structure.
Felicia Bernoulli & Fernando Bernoulli
Felicia and Fernando were born and raised in Porto Corsa in Italy. They got involved in the sport at approximately 7 years old. Fernando is the oldest (with just 4 minutes) and like almost any other sibling, when it suits him, he uses it as an excuse. Like their dad, the Bernoulli - twins love to show off. Mary has won a race against Fernando once and Felicia still talks about it, just to annoy him.
Piper Amelia Crophopper
Piper is born on the farm land in Propwash Junction, she isnt a racer, she took a stunting career (she can race however but doesnt like it that much) Piper really likes to salto and show off in the sky, she was born in a free town with a lot of space around her, just like Mary. They met at MotorFest, a yearly event in Carburator County. Dusty was exclusively invited and he brought Piper so he and Lightning could see if Mary and Piper would become friends, wich happened. Mary was at the time 10 and Piper 12.
Morgan Weathers & Caleb Weathers
Morgan and Caleb (especially Morgan) were basically born on the racetrack. Morgan and Caleb both want to race, even though Morgan likes to hang out with Mary and her other friends more sometimes. Strip and Lynda know she's still a kid and let her decide what she wants and they don't push their children into anything. Caleb is younger then Morgan, Morgan is 16 and Caleb is 13. They are both very good friends with Mary. The Weathers family loves to go to MotorFest, especially Morgan since she is friends with almost all the racers her age. Morgan and Caleb are both very ambitious and they take racing serious. Mary and Morgan are childhood friends, they have known each other since they were toddlers. Part of why MotorFest has so much contestants each year is because most of the younger racers are friends with each other and they help and encourage one another during the races. Their parents are mostly the more competitive ones, even though most of them are friends too.
facts about this fanfic
1. I don't have a name for it yet (please send suggestions if you have them)
2. Most of it will be written but i'll make drawings for it too
3. I made this 2 years ago, but dropped it due to losing interest in Cars. But i picked it up again and now my hyperfixation shall stay by my side, filling my autistic little brain with ideas for fanfictions and fanart, even though i'm a grown ass 16 year old that has a mount everest of homework on her desk but she shall write her stories and continue being very immature for her age.
And actively ignoring the fact she'll be an adult in 2 years (not stoked)

I love your stories and you have so many ! What’s your secret tips to write good fic but also to be able to write everyday like that ? Besides your stories are nothing but short I think it’s impressive . Also, I read in an old post you wrote in Portuguese before translating it but do you still write like that or do you write in English now ? If not I can’t imagine the work you have to produce to rewrite the story in English once finished in your native tongue but thank you for your hard work.
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I really appreciate it. I always make an effort to write every day, even when I'm out of ideas. Sometimes I manage to write two or three stories a day! A lot of the time, I just jot down sentences or bullet points, like "the character works as a receptionist" and build from there.
And yes, I still write everything in Portuguese first and then translate it into English using Google Translate. I also use various English spelling and grammar tools I find online to polish it up. It can be a bit of extra work, but I love doing it and I'm glad you enjoy the results! Thanks for your support! 😊
Now, here are some tips from me:
1 - Write Every Day: Even if you’re out of ideas, try to write something every day. It can be as simple as a few sentences or bullet points. Consistency is key!
2 - Keep a Notebook Handy: Inspiration can strike at any moment, so always have a notebook or a notes app ready to jot down ideas. Sometimes the best plots come from random thoughts.
3 - Read a Lot: Reading widely can help you understand different styles and techniques. It can also spark new ideas and improve your vocabulary.
4 - Outline Your Stories: Before diving into writing, create an outline. This can be a detailed plan or just bullet points. It helps to have a roadmap to keep your story on track.
5 - Don’t Fear the First Draft: Your first draft doesn’t have to be perfect. Just get your ideas down on paper and worry about polishing it later. Editing is where the magic happens.
6 - Character Development: Spend time developing your characters. Make sure they have depth, backstories, and motivations. Readers connect with well-rounded characters.
7 - Show, Don’t Tell: Instead of telling readers how a character feels, show it through their actions, dialogue, and thoughts. This makes your writing more engaging and immersive.
8 - Use Dialogue Effectively: Dialogue should sound natural and reflect each character’s personality. It’s also a great way to reveal information and move the plot forward.
9 - Seek Feedback: Don’t be afraid to share your work with others and ask for feedback. Constructive criticism can help you see your story from different perspectives and improve it.
10 - Edit Ruthlessly: Be prepared to cut out parts that don’t work, even if you love them. Every scene and sentence should serve a purpose.
11 - Take Breaks: Don’t burn yourself out. Taking breaks can help you return to your writing with fresh eyes and new ideas.
12 - Keep Learning: Writing is a craft that you can always improve. Take writing courses, read books on writing, and keep honing your skills.
And remember, writing is a journey. Enjoy the process and don’t be too hard on yourself. Happy writing! 📝

Konnichiwa Mr. Mouse- I 'ave a few questions? They are- somewhat connected. Have ya' ever been outside the country? An' if so, where an' how was it? Also, how many languages do you know? D'ya wish to know more? That's all! :3 -Ozzy/Jax/Julius (I have too many user/online names, I know 😅)
Hiya Ozzy/Jax/Julius, (That is a lot of names)
I sure have! I just love goin' around the world explorin', seein' the sites, and meetin' new people. I didn't get to travel much outside of Mouseton when I was younger. But now that I'm older, Minnie, Goofy, and I took a vow to travel to as many countries as we could in our lives. We already managed to go to quite a few like Italy and France. Oh and there was that cruise last summer where we got to go to a bunch of islands outside of the US. That was great!
Though I will say, I feel like I haven't travelled as much as I would've liked to. I try my best to go abroad as much as I can, but lately it's been hard as we all got so busy and I am findin' the few times we do go very rarely stays a vacation...
But movin' on to your next question. I'm a little bit embarrassed to say that I don't really speak many languages outside of english. I know bits and pieces, but not enough for a full conversation. But it has always been my life goal. I've tried readin' books and watchin' videos and even used over a dozen apps, but none of them seem to work.
But I'm not givin' up. I'm actually plannin' to meet up with Donald soon to see if he can help me learn some spanish and portuguese. I have a strong feelin' this may be the key to helpin' me.
Thanks a bunch for the questions, pal!
- M.M.

Hi! I was wondering if you could recommend any apps / online resources for learning Cantonese as an English speaker.
Oh hi! Very flattered you'd choose to ask me of all people but…I'm afraid I may not exactly be the best person to ask this…especially if you're asking as a beginner?
You see, I didn't exactly start from scratch. I come from a Cantonese background (can speak and understand average, conversational Cantonese) and had schooling in Mandarin for more than a decade (which helped, even if my Mandarin is still not great either LOL), so my “learning” was largely based on…how shall I say it? Heritage instinct…in a way (I hope you get what I mean), gut instinct, passive learning, you know? Not from conventional language books or apps.
My idea of “studying” Cantonese is more or less just, install a Jyutping (Cantonese Romanization) keyboard after a read-up on how to use Jyutping, expose myself to lots and lots of Cantonese content (TV series, movies, songs, etc.) and just wing my way through with trial and error LOL by listening to and matching the spoken Cantonese against the Standard Chinese subs (can be read in Mandarin) that often come with Cantonese shows and eventually figuring out any more differences that I didn't already know.
So I've only really needed a dictionary app to help with vocabulary. I don't really know what are the best language apps (the kind that introduces you to sentence structures, the really basic stuff and all?) to use out there for Cantonese.
I've seen people throw out names like ‘Anki’, ‘Duolingo’ and if I recall correctly, something called ‘Drops’? But I can't ascertain on how good they are, haven't felt the need to try them. LOL
For dictionary apps, I will strongly recommend Pleco, it's geared for Mandarin mainly, but it also has allowance for Cantonese if you add the Cantonese extension packs (some good, free ones available) that can be found within the app itself.
Online sites I use to supplement Pleco are mainly MDBG, and cantonesesheik.
There used to be an interesting language account here for Cantonese language stuff called language-obsession. Even though they don't seem to be active anymore, the account still stands and has quite good advice and links to Cantonese learning resources. Would be a good idea to check them out.
Then there's also YouTube and/or Instagram, which seem to have a more active Cantonese language community and content than here, also a good idea to check those platforms out for starters.
You can find a fair bit of Cantonese language creators there who offer content in bite-sized pieces, often with Jyutping and/or English subtitles.
Off the top of my head, I can think of mslinchinese, hambaanglaang, Cantonese with Brittany, inspirlang, poeticCantonese, to name a few.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but hopefully someone more able to will see this post and be willing to offer better advice?
Anyone? I know there are at least some Cantonese speakers/learners here but as “everyone is shy on Tumblr”, and I don't wish to unintentionally pressure specific individuals into a reply, not using the @.
