Cooking as a listed interest? Ooh, any go to meals that you wanna share? :3
Absolutely!! :3
Low effort meal is pressure cooker risotto. The following makes about 3 meals worth for me.
Rinse 200g of arborio rice until the water runs clear, then dump it in the pressure cooker pot. Add 750ml of liquid. Usually this is just stock, although it's nice to put in a glug or two of wine. I'm aware this might look like a lot, but it's the right ratio, you gotta trust me :3
Put this on to pressure-cook for 7 minutes. I use my pressure cooker's high setting for this, so use your equivalent. Then, I let the steam release naturally for 10 minutes, before venting off the rest manually.
Open the lid once it's safe, and give it a good stir and mix, before placing the lid back on and letting it sit for 5 minutes, and then it's done!
Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary. Adding in fried mushrooms or powdered parmesan is really nice. It's a low effort meal and very good for it, though eating a full plain bowl of it can lead to it getting boring by the end, so little additions go a long way.
This is only low effort because of the pressure cooking, you can make this dish otherwise but it's not simple and requires a lot of time and attention šŸ˜…
Medium effort meal is slow cooker lentil dahl. The following makes about 3 meals worth for me.
Take split red lentils, and rinse them in water repeatedly until the water runs clear, like rice. I'd say maybe about half a bag, 250g? Depends how much you'd like to make but the ratios of ingredients are flexible.
Dump this into the slow cooker pot, and add a tin of chopped tomatoes. Slice up some veg of choice at a medium dice, and put that straight in too. Bell peppers, carrots and onions work particularly well. One large carrot, a bell pepper and an onion is a good amount, for reference. Then, add one thingy of stock in whatever form you like (stock cube, stock pot, etc.) mixing it with water to start breaking it up. Add seasonings (a good pinch of salt, and I usually go for a decent sprinkle of curry powder and a small sprinkle of paprika). Then, add water until it covers all the lentils and veg.
Turn the slow cooker onto high with the lid on for about 2-3 hours. Then give it a mix, make sure nothing is burning or stuck to the bottom, then set it on low with the lid on for a couple hours or until it starts looking really good. If you check and it looks dry, add water and make sure it's not burning on the bottom again. If it looks too wet, leave it on low with the lid off for an hour or so.
Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary, then serve up! It benefits quite a bit from little toppings, like yoghurt, mango chutney or crispy fried onions/garlic.
If you don't have a slow cooker, you should be able to do this with a pot on the stove, but you'd have to figure out how to adapt the temperature and all that.
High effort meal is homemade pizza! It's fun because people can make their own once you've made the basic pizza.
Basically I've poached this recipe from BBC Good Food, see here:
I have some notes for this though, so it's not all poached :3
Ignore the request for fancy italian flour, just use plain flour and it'll be fine. Pick the toppings you want, too.
Be careful with the temperature it recommends. Hottest is best for pizzas, I agree, but you definitely need to keep an eye on it for anything like 270Ā°C, because it will just burn if you let it.
Since most of the time I'm making this for several people, and all the pizzas don't tend to fit in the oven at the same time, once you've got the little balls finished you might need to do them in batches.
You can prepare the pizzas in advance by cooking as the recipe says and doing tomato sauce plus mozzarella/cheddar topping to make a cooked Margarita pizza, and then leaving it until it's time to eat. Then, have each person choose a pizza, and top it with whatever additional toppings they'd like, then put it in the oven just to warm up and cook the toppings. Not 270Ā°C for that though, just go for 200Ā°C for about 10mins, or until it looks done.

top 10 things i cooked in 2023
this year i made 104 unique recipes (plus lots of duplicates when i liked something enough to make it multiple times). the places i went to most for recipes were feasting at home + the NYT recipes app, although i very much liked the weekday vegetarians, love and lemons, cookie & kate, nora cooks, and the foodie takes flight.
my top 10, in no particular order:
NYT ricotta pasta with roasted broccoli and crispy chickpeas (super simple but a great yummy pasta to make real quick for friends. I roasted the broccoli instead of broiling and added lots of extra lemon zest, garlic, red pepper flakes, and a tray of oven-roasted chickpeas)
moroccan vegetable tagine (i blended a bunch of recipes but the one linked was my starting point. this is the one form i like butternut squash in lol. modifications: i went heavy on all the spices but especially the cinnamon and cardamom, added chopped dried apricots to the stew for extra sweetness, and threw in a bunch of extra veggies. yum)
indian-ish nachos with cheddar, black beans and chutney (do NOT skip the multiple chutneys and sauces. it will seem like too much work you will say can't i just make one and be done with it but those sauces are where the magic lies. the great tragedy of these nachos is that i wanted to eat them for DAYS but they do not reheat well. but godddd they were good)
ottolenghi's green pancakes with lime butter (these are SO easy. great for brunch but also make delicious additions to your lunch for a couple days after. also it's a perfect way to eat a pound of spinach and feel very virtuous about it when really you just ate delicious jalapeno-y scallion pancakes. the lime butter is great but it's a lot of work so i usually just top these with some sour cream mixed with a lil bit of lime zest & lime juice)
cauliflower shawarma with spicy tahini sauce (YUM! the tahini sauce as written was too bitter for me with the cholula mixed in. i think i'd try it with sriracha next time so it was a little sweeter. i also added chickpeas yum)
roasted cauliflower daal with chickpeas (my notes say this was "OUTTA THIS WORLD DELICIOUS" but also note that it will "really clean you out GI-wise" lol. lentils always have that effect on me though so ymmv. i added bell pepper, roasted the cauliflower first, cooked the lentils most of the way soft in the rice cooker instead of on the stove, and added two chopped serrano peppers with seeds to give it a lil extra kick. i would recommend halving the recipe if you are cooking for one as there were TONS of leftovers and my GI system could not handle being cleansed that many times lol)
pasta with corn, tomatoes, "onion-bacon," and basil (this method of preparing onions really should not taste like bacon and yet it sort of does????? this was a summer recipe i made multiple times for a range of audiences and it was a hit every time. originally from the weekday vegetarians)
creamy corn pasta (THIS HAS NO RIGHT BEING AS GOOD AS IT IS. IT'S SO SIMPLE AND YET IT'S THE BEST THING I'VE EVER TASTED I COULD EAT IT FOR DAYS. WE ATE IT ALL SUMMER)
ottolenghi's very full roasted veggie tart (it will take you hours to make and no time at all to consume but oh my god it's so good and SUCH a satisfying way to spend a long weekend afternoon. liz and i loved this so much we had to have a serious sitdown to discuss how we would divvy up the leftovers because we felt it could seriously damage our friendship if one of us ate all of it)
bombay burritos (the little sauces and things take a long time to make but you can prep a lot of the stuff a day or two in advance and gosh these are so tasty!! the curried mashed potatoes YUM)
honorable mentions:
ottolenghi's mango soba noodles (skip the eggplant i'd do tofu or something instead)
braised tofu with basil (i made this with a veggie-loaded stir fry and topped it with a fried egg)
this carrot cake (it took forever to make but it was the best carrot cake i've ever had and the only thing i'll ever make on my bday from here on out). she also has a pumpkin cake recipe that is so good and much simpler to make (no grating required)
momofuku's ginger scallion tofu with crispy coconut rice (the recipe is for a shrimp version but we made it with tofu and it was very yummy. i made this at a friend's house and it was so good i wanted to ask to take home some of the leftovers but decided that was too rude ahaha)
and then of course i gotta give a shoutout to my #1 comfort foods this year, SHAKSHUKA (my beloved) + a caprese sandwich with balsamic glaze served on really good bread.

As a teenager, I was embarrassed about liking chopped liver. To be fair, I was embarrassed about most things ā€” my parents, my lack of the coolest sneakers, and my freckles among many other things. But liking chopped liver was high up on the list. It was just one of those gross foods: aesthetically unappealing, greyish and mushy, and just plain weird. None of my non-Jewish schoolmates had ever heard of anything like it.
But it tasted so damn good. All of it did ā€” my grandmotherā€™s, made from beef livers and shimmering with schmaltz served weekly at Shabbat lunch; the mass-produced packaged stuff that was kind of gristly, in a not-all-bad way; the scoops of it sandwiched between two slightly stale slices of white bread at the kosher deli (which may well have been the packaged stuff); and best of all, the creamier pate-like offerings, topped with a sweet fruit chutney, served at Friday night buffets in Israeli hotels. Chopped liver was rich and didnā€™t require a lot of effort ā€” you barely needed to chew it. It also sparked an iron-fueled rush of energy. It was my guilty pleasure.
I didnā€™t realize I had been so spoiled in the chopped liver department until I left home from England, to Israel, where it was actually quite hard to find. Israeli chefs were deep into a returning-to-culinary-roots movement but hadnā€™t really delved into the Ashkenazi kitchen yet, preferring the spicier, sexier Mizrahi dishes like kubbeh and upscale stuffed pita sandwiches.Ā I could find chopped liver in haredi areas like Bnei Brak, but it was a real schlep.
So I did what any committed liver enthusiast would do: I started making my own. I had my grandmotherā€™s recipe, but beef livers were hard to come by, so I set my sights on a chicken liver version Iā€™d found in Geila Hochermanā€™s Kosher Modern cookbook. This was more a pate; it departed from tradition in some quite ballsy ways, like adding capers! And thyme! And chili flakes! I was intrigued.
Finding chicken livers wasnā€™t a problem ā€” there were trays of them, slippery and pink, in the Carmel Market in Tel Aviv. And, like those my Ashkenazi ancestors cooked within Eastern Europe, they were cheap and sold raw. Back at home, I gave my grandmother a call and she, delighted by my culinary undertaking, gave me step-by-step instructions. First I had to rinse the livers, salt them, and broil them ā€” this was going to take some time.
I tend to be an impatient cook ā€” technique-heavy, complicated recipes bring out the worst in me. But the process of making chopped liver was unexpectedly enjoyable. Growing up in an Orthodox community, my role as a woman often felt passive, mostly consisting of watching the men participate in Judaism. So it felt new, and welcome, to take on the active task of preparing the livers, with instructions passed down through my matriarchs for generations.
Once theyā€™d been sufficiently broiled on both sides, I added the livers to a pan with caramelized onions, capers, thyme chili flakes, and a splash of white wine. Then I blitzed the mixture and a few slices of soaked bread with a hand mixer and steeled myself for a taste.
While the unorthodox ingredients added a saline spurt and chili zing, the chopped liver tasted wonderfully familiar. It was my take on all the other versions Iā€™d gorged myself on before ā€” not competing with them, but adding something a little new. I was content and even proud. I sat at the kitchen table with a glass of red wine, a box of crackers, and a jar of mango chutney and ate half my homemade liver in one sitting. Not the healthiest snack, I grant you, but it was an important reminder to me that sometimes it is worth investing time in the kitchen to please only yourself. Making chopped liver began as an exercise in nostalgia but turned out to be much more ā€” an act of culinary self-care.

the little things questionnaire.
repost, don't reblog.
Tumblr media
favourite tea. chai. khione absolutely adores chai. she likes batches made by jawaharel the best. farzana is often too busy for it. khione herself knows how to make it too and she often does, not only for herself but also for her loved ones (and, indeed, for those who have never experienced it and would like a taste). aside from that, she likes regular black tea with honey in it as well as pepperment tea with honey in it, and she also adores (hot and/or cold) boba-tea as well and her go-to flavor is vanilla and/or matcha.
favourite coffee. she doesn't drink coffee. if khione had to drink coffee, she would want it to be something sweet like latte macchiato or something more vanilla-esque. she actually prefers hot cocoa (with whipped cream, cinnamon on top and mini marshmallows).
favourite sweet snack. mithai. from gulab jamun to rasmalai to jalebi to barfi, khione has a sweet tooth a mile wide and she's always up to make a mithai-run. other than that, her favorite chocolate is white and she's always in the mood for red velvet anything.
favourite savory snack. samosas. khione eats samosas exclusively with ketchup on top (instead of chutney which almost everyone else does). aside from this, her other favorite savory snack is vada which is something khione often describes as a savory donut that is sometimes stuffed with vegetables and sometimes eaten as is. she also eats this with ketchup atop instead of chutney.
favourite flower. snowdrop. it is a hardy flower that mostly blooms in the winter time but is stubborn enough to bloom in the early spring, too. in the language of flowers, the snowdrop is synonymous with 'hope'.
favourite colours. blue and white. khione often wears those two colors to the point where they are associated with her. aside from that, there is also a lot of black in her wardrobe as well as red.
favourite fruit. mango. khione loves mangoes so much. they're her favorite fruit. but she loves fruit in general, though, so other favorites include: watermelons, oranges, coconuts, grapes, tangerines, (sweet) apples, pears, kiwis and more; she'll try anything once.
favourite vegetable. potatoes. regular ones as well as sweet ones. khione knows this vegetable as 'aloo' and she likes it best in or with roti. other favorites include: tomatos, cucumbers (even though that's technically classified as a fruit) and carrots. especially those of the small, snack-y variety. khione is often seen snacking on these.
favourite season(s). summer and winter. due to her powers, khione cannot sustain warmth. she needs external sources to keep (and stay) warm. summer is her favorite season because during those times, she gets warmer a little easier. winter, however, is also her favorite season because, well, snow, ice, cold; that's her whole entire thing.
favourite time of day. late afternoon. khione can mostly be found at the rink after school. it's the place she feels most at ease. she also has her routines so she knows what to do and when to do it, which helps too.
favourite kind of weather. sunny weather. khione is cold more often than not and sunny, summer weather means that she can at least trust the sun to help warm her up (and keep her warm for a bit, even though it doesn't really last - it never does).
love language(s) to give. words of affirmation, gift giving, quality time. due to the fact that khione can't really do the whole 'physical touch thing' she goes hard on the other love languages: words of affirmation are easiest for her; she will always end a phone call or text thread with a quick 'love you' so that her friends know they're cherished and she does so like to give her friends gifts - it's far easier to splurge on them than it is on herself. and even though she can't touch most people, it doesn't stop her from hanging out with them, either. one of her favorite things to do is to take people out to eat.
love language(s) to receive. physical touch. it's quite ironic. khione can't touch (most) people without siphoning their body heat and is quite touch starved, yet she yearns and hungers for touch the most.
specific niche love language(s). deliberately inviting and involving people into her life. khione operates from a point of view that essentially boils down to: "how do i protect people from myself?" and she takes that very seriously. as such, she holds almost everyone at arms length. not only to protect them, as stated before, but also because the majority of her life has been filmed and taped (due to the fact that her mom, saraswati, is a well known reality tv personality with her own show that khione has made numerous appearances on). it's all out there for public consumption. so if she deliberately involves you in her life, if she lets you see behind the mask and know her beyond the distant ice queen persona she puts up, then you know she loves you.
sharing food with you. khione loves food. loves eating food. her favorite thing to do to get to know a person is to take them out for lunch (and, sometimes, dinner). sharing her favorite food with you? especially if it's south asian cuisine? definitely a specific love language.
favourite hobbies. figure skating. khione has been skating since she was five years old. she loves everything about it from the sound of her skates on the ice to the choreography to the outfits, the music and the way she can keep challenging not only others but herself as well.
drawing. she likes to draw her friends - especially when they're not looking at her because they're doing other things - but, more often than not, she sketches out idea of snow and ice sculptures she wants to make before she actually dives into her home studio and makes them. those two art forms go hand-in-hand for her.
sculpting. the resident cryokinetic quickly found that she likes to use her powers in order to create. sure, it'll melt at some point, but preventative measures exist to delay that as long as possible. there is something calming, to khione, about creating snow and ice sculptures. most of her insta is filled with pictures of her many creations.
favourite book(s). the lord of the rings by jrr tolkien. "there is some good in this world, mister frodo, and it's worth fighting for" and "courage is found in unlikely places" are quotes that live rent free in her mind. she adores the themes of the books and thinks she'd make a lousy elf but an excellent hobbit. also, khione watched the first lotr movie when she was (perhaps) too young to do so - jawaharel, who introduced her to the books and movies, said she wasn't - and she truly believed that all gollum needed was a hug and then it broke her heart a little when jawaharel said it was more complicated than that.
her favorite audiobook rendition of the hunger games, by the way, is the one as read by tatiana maslany.
either way, she loves books, loves reading, but prefers audiobooks because that allows her to do multiple things at once. khione tries to read as many books written by queer authors and authors of color as possible.
favourite movie(s) / show(s). the lord of the rings, the hobbit and the rings of power. she's seen both the movies and the show more than once but she loves rewatching either of them because there's always something new to discover.
favourite song(s). hot to go by chappell roan, bekhauf by bloodywood and babymetal as well as boom boom and lazeez by W.i.S.H. khione has skated to hot to go before and considers it 'her' song. bekhauf is a good song to blast while she's working out or doing school work and boom boom is a cute disco-esque song and a redux of a classic that is just very fun to listen to. lazeez is very much a 'i'm feeling hot' song that she appreciates. other favorites include: high heels by jojo and bodye and wish wish by olly sholotan (whom i've used for ethan's fc because i headcanon that ethan goes into music after school). all in all: her music taste is very eclectic but there is a red thread running throughout and that is that she needs to be able to move to the songs she listens to.
favourite musician. raja kumari. it's personally important to khione to listen to musicians of color and queer musicians as much as she can. raja kumari is a staple in her music library, as is eva b and W.iS.H. other favorites include: bloodywood, meet me @ the altar, beyonce, faouzia, olivia rodrigo, sabrina carpenter, chappell roan, tate mcrae.
favourite animals. the rusty spotted cat. it's adorable and tiny but deadly. does that remind you of anyone? all jokes aside, the rusty spotted cat is highly agile and can show signs of aggression. khione is very agile and flexible and there is anger in her, too, except she keeps it firmly under wraps. other favorite animals include: elephants, turtles, tortoises, arctic hares, arctic foxes and capybaras.
favourite terrain. snow. it's part of her element. khione could easily spend the entire day outside when it snows and, of course, she'll say yes to winter sport when the opportunity comes up.
tagged by. technically @tiderider tagged me on another account but i did it for this one ;)
tagging. you!

Iā€™m unconvinced you arenā€™t the Ratatouille rat in disguise with how decadently write about food.
I'm certainly rat-like in that I enjoy a tasty snackkie, and I will occasionally hide under my tall wife's hat.
Really though it's mainly me having a very strong connection to food. I taught myself how to cook when I was 12 and most of my experiences going out are going to get food or to places that sell tiny cakes.
I have very strong opinions on tiny cakes. In my opinion tiny cakes have to be exactly medium-fancy.
I mean the best part about living in Portland is the food scene. So often they have these special food-themed weeks. Burger week. Sandwich week. Wing week (I didn't go to that one). Now it's pizza week again. I got a Hawaiian pizza that had this really subtle bechamel sauce that gave the whole thing a really creamy base. The large cubes of ham were paired with sausage ground and cooked practically to the consistency of chorizo.
The reason I biked downtown to get it was because of the mango habanero aioli, which is perfect because I think Hawaiian pizza is so much better with a little kick of heat to bring out the sweetness of the pineapple (usually I only see this through jalapeno - also very good). The aioli was perfectly spicy in a way that felt almost like an Indian chutney, which maybe was the habanero. The mango gave it a perfect slight sweetness. If I had a jar of the stuff I'd put it on crackers or little slices of baguette.
Anyways describing food is fun and all the other pizzas for pizza week are usually unholy rites to hubris. Last year my now-wife brought me an IKEA meatball pizza and I couldn't leave the bathroom of my terrible studio apartment for an hour. I still do it because I enjoy weird gourmet meals at a reasonable price and I am Clove Gardener, Committee to the Bit.
It's also a fun thing for characters to dwell on. I find it endearing.

I've got a hankering for a "Lister Sandwich" (a "triple fried egg butty with chili sauce and chutney") again but I have limited options. As I can no longer eat alliums I can't make it the way I did over a decade ago. After searching for Jainism-friendly mango chutney I gave up and will have to make my own. Not a lot of fresh mangos this time of year so I'll get frozen mangos. Not the best I know but I'll probably be ok.
Tumblr media
As for the chili sauce, there's only one brand that looks good that I can actually eat. Underwood Ranches Sambal. Trouble is, not sure where I can actually buy it.
Tumblr media
I might have to buy it online but I'll phone around first.

from a (half) south asian american who's dark skinned, i think one of the best examples of south asian representation in video games as of recent is frye from splatoon 3.
i think they did so many things great with her. even though she's not really desi considering human culture has been extinct for over 1000 years in the splatoon universe, they did a great portrayal of her as a south asian. the inclusion of her dark skin really adds to that, because as someone who's half south indian, with dark skin, colorism and racism against dark skinned ppl in south asia is a really big issue, and is rooted in the caste system. and even though i doubt the inclusion of her dark skin was meant to break that stigma and stereotyping, it really adds to her regardless!
some other great examples of south asian influence in frye that makes her great rep:
- her singing in splatoon 3 is based on indian vocal music, especially carnatic (south indian) music. there's also traditional indian instruments such as sitar/veena, dholak, and nadaswaram used in songs where she performs. her dancing performance is also reminiscent of indian dances like bharatanatyam, odissi, and kuchipudi.
- her fighting style in her boss battle is based off of snake charming, using a pungi flute to control her moray eels to fight the player, in a manner similar to snake charming
- her outfit is based off of western-south asian or indo-western fashion and clothing, wearing a dupatta over what looks like a choli, and her pants resemble patiala pants. her headpiece also resembles mango chutney or another south asian condiment
- the locker decoration received from story mode that depicts her, sunken scroll 11, is based off of traditional indian art, especially from south india. the pose she strikes and the surrounding motifs are reminiscent of south indian and sri lankan sculpture and art depicting hindu figures; an example of a work of art similar to this depiction of frye is the bronze statue Shiva Natarāja, depicting the god shiva as nataraja, the cosmic lord of dance.
- and although i don't know for sure if her big forehead is based in south asian traditional beauty traditions, i still think it adds to her greatly as south asian representation. video game characters from any underrepresented culture are often depicted under western beauty standards, and frye's appearance that defies both western beauty standards AND colorist standards of south asian beauty truly makes her a great example of south asian rep in video games.
special thanks to twitter user rosierajin, who also compiled a list of examples of south asian influence in frye's character
anyways, that's my conclusion about why frye is an amazing example of south asian rep, hope you enjoy :3

ABOUT
[Ā KUKKUTARMAĀ ]Ā  [ INSPO]
BASICS: Name: Zaid Shair (Zah-eed Shayh-yeer) Age: 41years old. he's a cancer that's all I know so far Gender & Pronouns: Cis man - He/Him Place of birth: Sheffield, England PERSONAGE: Previous occupation: executive chef and owner of two fine-dining restaurants: - in London, Mango (successful) - in New York, Chutney (derisive) Powers: plasma blasts. Zaid passively absorbs cosmic energy, like a living storage cell. Energy must be released by force. Crystal bracelet: green malachite First impressions: Zaid can be intense, but soft-spoken and calm. He knows how to be friendly and personable. He can let his emotions get the best of him. He does have a Mr Hyde to his Dr Jekyll, but that only comes out in certain circumstances
PLOT IDEAS:
cooking baba: an obvious outcome for Zaid on the island. His passion for cooking is greatly diminished, but needs must for survival on a strange island, and everyone knows food boosts morale. Something to do with cuisine, be it connections pre-island, hunting/gathering, planning/rationing, food-sickness, cooking, etc!
fwb: Zaid is hurting, they're hurting too. good thing they're both attractive, because then pain becomes beautiful and sexy, right? power play: figuring out powers! working together or against each other! lots of room for experimentation here adventure time: I love adventure plots and there's ample grounds to explore and get in trouble together!
APPEARANCE: Height: 5'8" Eyes : brown Hair: black, worn short. Trimmed beard and moustache Build: compact Tattoos: tattoos on his arms, tbd
BACKGROUND: Nationality: Pakistani-British Family: Three grandparents, two parents, multiple younger siblings (tbd), loads of uncles, aunties, cousins, etc. A big family that he never quite got close to, except for that one unmarried quirky-dirky Jotie-Auntie.
BULLET POINTS:
- Zaid, eldest child in his family, first brought shame to the Shairs when he decided to eschew a degree in commerce, and went to cooking school instead - Coming out to his family was somehow less shameful than his career choice, because he still liked girls, mashallah! Zaid didn't mind the various arranged dates, but his ambition overshadowed finding a match. -He moved to Paris, then London in his early 20s to apprentice in restaurants, growing in rank and gaining respect as a dedicated, hard working line cook. He took an executive chef job at a boutique hotel in London in his late 20s - His first point of pride was opening his fine-dining restaurant Mango in 2015 in touristy Soho. Lauded in reviews for his insightful, delightful take on Pakistani cuisine, Mango became one of the trendiest eateries in London. - He refrained from the allure of 'celebrity chef' despite network and social media offers, aiming instead for that Michelin star status. He just wanted one, he was modest. - Gaining that one star should've been the biggest highlight of his life, but it was eclipsed when he met the real and only love of his life (so Zaid claims), Tej Virani. - In Zaid's mind, their romance was a firestarter, burning quick, bright, and hot. Zaid did everything to keep Tej living a comfortable life, and was proud of how he oh-so magnificently balanced work duties around Tej's whimsical needs. - After gaining his Michelin star, everything in Zaid's life seemed to bottleneck: the unexpected arrival of Tej's niece Inika, his PR agent's push for Zaid to move towards celebrity status (write that book! guest judge on Masterchef and Chopped! live-feed the cooking seminars at schools!), his own personal temptation to open a new restaurant in New York. - Zaid was convinced he could do it all. He packed up Tej and their little ward Inika and emigrated to New York. Surely he could pull this all together, with his usual efficiency and drive. - Surely, he could not. COVID happened. His relationship suffered, celebrity hopes were locked down; and with that, his new restaurant plans suffered. Chtuney eventually opened with a whimper rather than a bang, and the restaurant limped along for a year under poor leadership and red tape, as Zaid spiralled further into disarray in his personal life. Tej slipped out of his grasp and maybe it was for the better. Maybe not. - When he finally cracked from stress, he cracked hard. In a fit of spite, he stole Inika from Tej, headed to Montauk, and promised they'd never return. He and Inika would start a new life, back in London - no! In Sheffield! - and Tej would never see them again. - Tej's plaintive convincing made Zaid relinquish his mad plans, but by then it was too late. Zaid was so focused on Tej and their argument, he wasn't paying attention to the child. They lost Inika to the night waters of Montauk Beach. The child was gone, drowned, dead and Zaid was inconsolable and blamed Tej for all of it. - The funeral was for an empty casket, which was in many ways deeply symbolic for Zaid over the next few months of solitude and grief. - His New York restaurant in shambles, his relationship had long sailed. Zaid settled into trying to recoup his losses in New York. After which he intended to return to London with his tail between his legs. But instead, Zaid ended up on an entirely different island.

Futurama - Leela (Lee/Ler)/ Fry (Lee/Ler)
WARNINGS: Alcohol/ Revealing clothing!
Leela and Fry are enjoying a date night at home, while Fry brings up some interesting topics. Leela is very curious about them and lets her curiosity get the better of her...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I had a great night tonight, Fry. You were very charming."
"Thanks, Leela. I had a great night too. Sorry I tried to swim in my soup, though."
"Oh, it's okay. It's not the first time you've done it."
After a wonderful date night at Elzar's Fine Cuisine, Leela and Fry were winding down in the Planet Express building. Fry had poured some champagne for the both of them, and they planned to talk all night, as they had plenty of times before.
The two were sat on the couch; Leela in a revealing yet tasteful dress with holes showing off her stomach and sides through the outfit. Her hair was up in a ponytail and curled over her shoulders. Fry thought she looked amazing, but then again, he always did.
Fry had removed his suit jacket and tie and rolled up the sleeves of his white button-up to get more comfortable. Leela preferred his natural look over his fancy look, but she always appreciated the gesture.
"So, what was your favorite thing to eat tonight? I thought the Cream of Nothing was spiced well." Fry asked while sipping his drink. Leela smiled at him lovingly while settling into his side on the couch.
"Hmm, the mango chutney on the Unnameable Horror from Beyond was good. I'll need to bring leftovers for Amy to try. You think Bender would like the Neptunian Slug?" Leela asked. Fry scoffed and rolled his eyes at the mention of his best friend.
"Gah, Bender, that jerk. I don't even wanna talk about him." Fry carded his fingers through his hair while Leela looked at him questioningly. The lights of the city from the sliding glass door reflected in her eye.
"What happened? Did he rally for the death of all humans again?" Leela asked. Fry snuck his arm around Leela's waist to hold her closer.
"No, no, he did that last week. That bastard stole my wallet, and he knew I was taking you out tonight! He played dirty, too." Fry drained his glass of champagne and moved to pour some more. Leela offered her glass to be refilled as well.
"Oh, is that you asked me to give you money under the table to pay to make it look like you were the one paying for the meal?" Leela questioned. Fry smiled back at Leela and gave her back her now-filled glass.
"Yeah, a gentlemen's gotta take care of his lady. But man, Bender used my one weakness against me! It really ticked me off. Usually, I wouldn't mind it, but I do mind it when it's used for...wallet stealing." Fry groaned in his glass while Leela grew curious.
"What did he do? He didn't hurt you did he?" Fry had to be careful. He knew if Leela suspected Bender hurt Fry for a moment, she would tarnish his shiny metal ass in an instant.
"No, if anything, he did the opposite. That bastard held me down and tickled me in the apartment! It was humiliating. And before I knew it, my wallet was gone. Ugh, I hate when he does that." Fry drank deeply from his glass while Leela swirled her drink around.
"Oh, that childish thing? I didn't know you were ticklish, Fry." Leela admitted. Fry gave her a quizzical look.
"Huh? I thought everyone was? Well, humans anyway. I wouldn't wanna try tickling Dr. Zoiberg." Fry said truthfully. Leela set her glass down on the coffee table and reached over to grab Fry's glass from his hand.
"Hey, I was drinking that-" Fry protested.
"Lift your arms above your head," Leela asked Fry with a smile on her face. Fry showed an innocent smile and did as he was told, completely forgetting the earlier topic.
"Okay! What's the occasion? Some new move in the bedroom you wanna try? Or would it be the living room-" Leela had about zero experience when it came to tickling, so she was naturally curious. She's seen a few instances of tickling over the years at Planet Express, usually between Amy, Bender, and Fry. She'd always shrug it off and chalk it up to them being idiots, but she's always been silently curious. She supposed what better time than the present to test out her interest.
Drawing from her memories of what she's witnessed in the past, Leela took her hands and reached forward to start scribbling her fingers in Fry's outstretched sides.
Fry had an immediate reaction and shot his arms down to protect himself. His face creased into an equally happy and panicked expression as he tried to protect himself from Leela's tickles.
"Leehee-Leeheelaha?! Thi-Thihis ihihisn't whahat I hahad ihihin mihind!" Fry petered out between his giggles. Leela was focused a bit on her technique, silently wondering if she was doing this right. He was giving the right response, but she didn't know if she should be doing anything to enhance the experience, or what the end goal was to this game.
"Sorry to disappoint you, Fry, but I thought we could spend our night a bit differently. Not that I don't love us gossiping about the others every date night, but just to switch things up. You don't mind, do you?" Leela asked innocently. Well, Fry couldn't say no to her light-hearted request. Even if it tickled pretty badly.
"I- hehehee! I guhuess! Ihihit juhuhust tihihickles a lohohot!" Leela's fingers skittered and scritched in Fry's sides and ribs, her skill undeniable for someone who just discovered tickling. Fry's arms stayed by his sides, squeezed tightly for protection, but he didn't do much squirming.
"Well yeah, isn't that the point? Am I missing the point of tickling?" Leela asked wholesomely. She stopped for a moment to let Fry catch his breath. Even in the midst of Fry's giggles, his heart melted. She was just genuinely curious, how adorable was that?
"Aww, Leela, that's so- cuhuhute! H-Hehehey, gihihive mehehe a sehehecond!" Fry snickered, Leela already eager to hear his laughter again. Fascinating. Leela had never really paid attention to Fry's laughter before in their relationship, but now in this situation, she couldn't get enough of it. She liked feeling his stomach twitch in laughter underneath her fingers.
"Sorry, Fry. You just tell me when to stop, okay? We can use the same password if you want~" Leela teased, and started scribbling in Fry's stomach. Fry's hair shifted as his eyes narrowed in laughter.
"Ohoho! Dahaha-! Dahahark mahahaha-! Ahahaha! I cahahan't!" Fry's thin shirt wasn't helping with protecting him in any way. But then again, his own hands weren't either. His arms were at his sides and clenched there as if he were restrained. Leela figured he was just being nice, but she started to wonder if he was caught in a flight or fight position and frozen by the tickles.
"Aww, is the centuries-old caveman too ticklish? I don't know why I didn't realize it sooner." Fry was too overcome in his giggles to respond to Leela, especially since she was dotting up his stomach and trying to twist her fingers into his armpits. Fry snorted at her attempts to get into his hollows and squirmed underneath her.
"Leeheeheehee! Leela plehehease! Thihis ihihisn't vehehery hohohot!" Fry whined, his knees picking up and slamming down on the couch in protest. Leela noticed that Fry wasn't actively trying to push her hands away from her tickling. He hadn't even said to stop this whole time. Leela grew suspicious as she stilled her hands for a moment. It couldn't be possible that Fry could like the tickling and was deciding not to say anything, right?
"Fry, maybe try telling me to stop if you want it to be over~" Leela teased, and swirled little circles in his shirt. He let out some goofy giggles and held her hands while he caught his breath, his stomach moving with his breathing.
"Sohorry, I forgot I could say that. You scrambled my head for a second." Fry and Leela repositioned where Fry was laid on his back and Leela lay curled in his side. She rested her head on his shoulder while Fry idly traced his fingers along her dress.
"Why'd you do that anyway?" Fry asked, the moment becoming slower between them. Leela smiled at the feeling of his beating heart underneath her fingertips. She shrugged at the question, the city noises outside filling the background with ambient noise.
"I dunno, I just thought it was cute. And it was. I like your laugh." Leela said honestly. Fry got an idea and silently turned sinister beside Leela.
"Well, I like yours, too. Does that mean I can do this?" Fry took advantage of Leela's bare side showing through her dress and started skittering his textured fingers over her soft skin. Leela huffed out of her nose and slapped Fry's hand away.
"That's not gonna work on me, Fry. I know better than to react to something so childish." Leela said matter-of-factly. Fry shrugged, but went back to his idle circling of her skin. Leela couldn't help but stiffen and bite her lip against his side.
"Mmm sure, I believe you~" Fry grinned in response to Leela's reactions to his soft pawing at her skin. She groaned as she pushed herself up to look at Fry's feline grin on his face.
"And what's that supposed to mean? H-Hey!" With Leela pushed up against Fry, Fry took advantage of this and started scritching against Leela's jawline by her ear. She let out a small squeak, the sound betraying her strong and dominant appearance. Her shoulder shot up to try and protect the area.
"Don't think I haven't noticed you react in certain ticklish ways, Leela~ Just because I'm dumb doesn't mean I'm stupid, ya know." Leela found enough willpower to roll her eye at Fry in the midst of her jawline getting scratched. That drove Fry to sit up fully on the couch and wiggle his fingers over her neck and her ears.
"Yeek! Frhyhy stohohop thahat!" Leela let out deep and mature laughs, very on end with Fry's goofy laughter from earlier. She pushed his hands away, but he fought to keep them in place while Leela tried to bring up her shoulders for protection.
"Huh, looks like you can be juuuust as childish, Leela. Huh, 'LEE'-la is a funny name, isn't it?~" Fry teased, suddenly commanding this situation out of nowhere. Leela laughed out and tried to move to the other side of the couch, but Fry was quick to follow her and target all of her open spots. He reached for her outstretched armpit and her open side, he grabbed her thigh and scribbled his fingers against her knee. This dress wasn't helping the situation!
"Ahahahaha! Fr-Frhyhyhy! Dohohon't ruhuhuin my drehess!" The more places Fry reached for Leela, the more her dress wrinkled underneath him. He was made aware of this fact and stopped immediately.
"Oh, I'm sorry Leela! Are you okay- OOMF-" A swift punch to the gut was delivered by Leela to Fry. Fry doubled over and moaned while Leela sat up fully on the couch and reached for a compact mirror to fix her hair. She wouldn't look frazzled in front of him, especially on date night.
"You should know not to grab a lady like that without her permission, Fry." Leela said with a snap of her compact mirror. Fry groaned out a response in his folded shape.
"You don't- punch like a lady- augh-" He sighed. Leela felt a twinge of guilt. This was their date night after all. And she did kind of start the tickling, to begin with. Leela inched towards Fry and started rubbing his back in soothing circles.
"Oh Fry, are you okay? I didn't mean to- Ah!" Fry sprang out of his folded position and grabbed hold of both Leela's sides, and started to scribble his fingers into them. Leela's laughter started up again, her fingers balling in Fry's white shirt.
"I'm better now, your laugh is healing~" Fry oozed in teases, to which Leela groaned inwardly.
"Fryhyhy dohohohon't! Ihihihit's stuhuhupid, I ahahadmit!" Leela cried out, Fry now going for the open space of her dress over her tummy. Leela gasped as she covered that up immediately with a free hand and reached out blindly to scribble her fingers in Fry's skin. She had gotten his side, which Fry yelped and retreated his hands for a moment.
"Hehehey wahahahait! Thahahat's nohohohohot fahahahair!" Fry called out, Leela taking the opportunity to push Fry back away from her tummy and tickled over his sides and his stomach. Leela advanced and straddled Fry's waist to command the situation and take up estate on Fry's body.
"Oh, now it's not fair Fry? Make up your mind, would you?" Leela teased, her hands scribbling and scritching over his torso. Fry wriggled underneath her and tried to push her wrists back from his torso, but Leela saw that tickles weakened her adorable boyfriend greatly. His eyes were narrowed as silly giggles slipped from his mouth.
"I cahahahan't! Yohohou're tihihihickling mehehehe!" Fry snickered and let loose one of his wrists while Leela was caught up trying to keep him restrained underneath him.
"Oh Fry, aren't you cute- Eek!" Leela felt a hand slide up her defenseless side showing through her dress. She gave a small squeak and took both her hands off Fry's wrists to push him back from her sides. Fry took this in stride and grasped both her sides to pinch and squish up and down her ribs and sides.
"You said it was stupid earlier, huh? Well, it's making you laugh pretty well now, isn't it? Oh wait, let me try something! This'll be REALLY stupid!" Enthusiastically, Fry leaned into Leela's open tummy window from her dress and pressed his lips to her stomach.
"F-Fry what are you- Fryhyhyhy! Stop- Stohohohop thahahat!" Leela let out fresh peals of energetic laughs as Fry's lips raspberried against her belly. She squirmed and wriggled in the hug that he formed around her as she pushed at his shoulders. New sensations she's never felt before vibrated through her tummy as Fry landed little raspberries all over her stomach.
"But you sound so sweet Leela, I could listen to you all night~" Fry smiled up at her, his eyes full of love and his cheeks dusted with blush. Leela took a breath and swiped Fry's hair out of his eyes.
Her heart was pounding from her laughter, but it was welcome, in a strange way. She smiled down at Fry and cupped his love-stricken face between her hands.
"Oh, Fry. I could listen to you all night too. That turned out to be a lot more fun than I would have thought. Although, I feel like I prefer being the one tickling you." Leela removed herself from her seat on Fry's lap and snuggled into his side. Fry wrapped his arm around her side and pressed her into him reassuringly.
"Yeah um... I prefer uh... the opposite-" Fry covered up his answer with a cough, but Leela smiled wide at his confession. The city outside had turned somber in the night, the traffic quieter, and the lights dimmer. Leela placed her hand on his chest and hugged him close.
"Well, I hope you won't object if we were to spend another date night like this," Leela said in Fry's chest. Fry beamed and kissed her forehead lovingly.
"No matter how we spend our date night, it's a date with you, Leela. And that's all that matters to me." The couple smiled at each other before sharing a heartfelt kiss.
After the success of this particular date night, several date nights similar to it followed. It soon became a treasured pastime between the two, and their bond has even deepened due to the closeness. For something that started off as childish and stupid to Leela, it soon became something of a symbol of trust and togetherness with her love-struck partner.

Miracle Dish - Stand My Heroes Mini-chat 2023/07/03
Tumblr media
Featured Characters:
Kirishima Koya
Yamazaki Kaname
Kujo Soma
Miyase Go
Tumblr media
Kirishima: Phew, I'm starving!
Kirishima: Miyase just left on a shopping trip tho...
*clack*
Kirishima: Hey, there's a lot of different ingredients in here.
Kirishima: ...
Tumblr media
Kaname: Koya-kun, you left the fridge open.
Kirishima: Oof, my bad. Gotta be more careful next time. Zoned out coz of the hunger, y'know.
Kirishima: Since that's how it is, I got no choice but to cook food myself!
Kaname: Eh, could you even though?
Kirishima: Don't judge me yet! I've been practicing what Miyase has taught me from time to time. It'll be fine.
Kirishima: What I could use now is shrimp, bean sprouts, edamame... oh, and I'm craving meat - gotta have that too.
Kaname: If it's meat you want, there should be some from last night's leftovers. You okay with that?
Kirishima: All right, we got meat!
Kirishima: Oh yeah, gotta have eggs! Most stuff taste better when you have 'em mixed in.
Kirishima: For now, we throw 'em all in a bowl, and...
Kujo: What are you making?
Kaname: ...an original dish.
Kirishima: Haha, we're just randomly mixing whatever's in the fridge tho.
Kujo: A dish without a name, huh. Interesting. Allow me to help.
Kirishima: Then, please prepare the rice, Kujo-san. This right here is the type that you can just nuke in the microwave to fluff it up.
Kujo: Understood.
Kaname: What about the seasonings?
Kirishima: It already looks good as is, but... I could add something.
Kaname: You can't go wrong with sesame seeds and salt, I think.
Kirishima: Yo, sounds great.
Kujo: Maybe adding some Sweet Mango Chutney would make it taste better. As the name implies, it's mangoes boiled into jam.
Kirishima: Mango's great! Let's try adding a little bit of that.
Kaname: (I wonder if it'll be okay...)
Kirishima: While I'm at it, add some lemon juice too... Like so! Once they're all mixed, into the frying pan they go.
*sizzle*
Kaname: Oh, that surprisingly smells good.
Tumblr media
Kujo: I have a feeling that this will be a masterpiece.
Kirishima: This sort of thing tastes best when you let it simmer at medium heat.
Kirishima: ...okay, that should do it.
Kaname: It'll probably taste better with mayonnaise.
Kirishima: That's what I'm thinkin'!
Kirishima: Mmmm! This is hella tasty!
Kaname: It feels nice and fluffy.
Kujo: Makes me want to drink wine.
Kirishima: Hey, we might have the talent for cooking, don't we? Gotta let Miyase try this out!
-- A few days later --
Kirishima & Kaname: ...
Kirishima: Why!? Why doesn't it taste like the one we cooked before?
Kaname: We really didn't think about the measurements and went about it pretty randomly. Maybe that flavor was a one-time thing.
Miyase: It is also delicious today.
Kirishima: No, it tasted way better before! Trust me!
Tumblr media
Miyase: Yes, of course. I believe you.
Miyase: Miracles are bound to happen again one day. That's what cooking is all about.
---
After this, they would occasionally find themselves in the kitchen, with the belief that another miracle would happen someday.

If I were on the Off Menu podcast:
Still or sparkling water: Still, obviously. Sparkling water tastes rank. One time when I was a kid, a friend's mum gave me sparkling water that had gone flat so I couldn't tell it was sparkling. I couldn't swallow it so I just spat it out all over my pizza.
Tumblr media
POPPADOMS OR BREAD?!?!?!?!: Usually I'd say bread - something a bit oily with olives in it and big flakes of sea salt - but I've got a big meal planned and I don't want to fill up. So i'll have a single poppadom and some mango chutney.
Tumblr media
Your dream starter: This is kind of academic because I'm ordering small plates, but the first proper dish I want going in my mouth is boquerones en vinagre. It's fresh anchovies marinated in vinegar and oil and seasoned with garlic and parsley and the best boquerones are made in Cambio De Tercio, a tapas restaurant in South Kensington. And to accompany that, I'd like a cold glass of gazpacho (cold tomato soup). I had this a lot in CƔdiz and it's the most refreshing thing.
Tumblr media
Your dream main course: Ok, deep breath... I want the crunchy prawns we had at my wedding, the potatoes with aioli I ate in Valencia, an Insalata Caprese (tomatoes, mozarella & basil) made by my dad, deep fried courgette flowers, a small ramekin of my partner's courgette carbonara w. homemade linguini, grilled halloumi from Bar Mezze (a greek restaurant in Muswell Hill my family used to go to before it closed), taramasalata, tzatziki, baba ghanoush (cod roe dip, yoghurt/cucumber dip & smoked aubergine dip) and a big Turkish flatbread for dipping and sauce moppage.
Tumblr media
Your dream side dish: Again, academic because of the small plates but I'll go for the broccoli w. garlic and chilli from Boulangerie Bon Matin in Finsbury park. The broccoli's nicely grilled and not too oily or salty and the chilli gives it a real zing. Also, in my fantasy, my partner's sat across from me eating the wood roasted chicken from Moro in Islington and she's giving me little forkfuls to try.
Tumblr media
Your dream dessert: I'm not much of a dessert person but I'd never say no to a slice of my mum's chocolate birthday cake. It's nothing fancy (though the layer of grated dark chocolate over the top is a classy touch), but it's as delicious now as it was when I was a kid.
Tumblr media
Your dream drink: So before the meal even starts I'd like a Lychee Martini at the bar. Then with my boquerones, I'd like a glass of Pegoes, a Portuguese wine we had at my wedding that has an interesting banana-y taste. When the small plates arrive, I'll move on to a 3/4 pint of Mythos, a Greek beer perfect for hot days and oily food. Then with dessert I want a little glass of Sauternes, my favourite dessert wine. Then, if it's lunchtime I'll just have a homemade filter coffee, with plenty of milk.
Tumblr media
Your dream restaurant: I'll stick with the Mediterranean theme and imagine myself in a seaside town, where it's hot but you're cooled by the breeze and you can see the boats bobbing in the bay. Occasionally a moped revs past but otherwise all you can hear are the other diners and the waves lapping against the harbour. That, but with comfortable chairs!

Welcome to Kathmandu!
After several delays and much anxiety about having the right visa and documents, I made it! I was greeted by a dear friend of mine through a sea of voices as I dodged the chaos of people crisscrossing from every direction. We hopped in a cab he had waiting and headed to his home. There is something about the noise of a city, especially one Iā€™ve never experienced before that makes me feel alive. I donā€™t think happy is the right wordā€”I simply feel more.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by his mother with a marigold and a local red flower. As more family members and neighbors came forward to meet me, my namastes just felt a little awkward. Their kindness, however, put me at ease.
After a rest and conversation (I understood about 60% of), I was shown to my room on the third floor. Itā€™s beautiful with tons of windows and a terrace overlooking the city. The bed is one made of the traditional mattresses. Firm is an understatement but, maybe this is whatā€™s missing in my life because itā€™s awesome.
We had a snack around 3 oā€™clock of chutneys, flat rice, and pickled mango. I was so full. Then my friendā€™s daughter showed me around the top terrace and explained the city from the views. Followed by a quick neighborhood walk. And you guessed it more food. The food was amazing: mutton curry, chicken curry, and lentil curry with rice of course.
We had a night cap of local beer on the terrace full of laughs and burps (I guess itā€™s a thing) often in combination. I feel at peace and happy. Iā€™m not sure Iā€™ve ever felt so welcomed in a home. They have truly gone the extra mile to ensure I have the best of what they have available and that Iā€™m comfortable. I hope to take this away and become a better host myself.
Funny side noteā€”there are so many cultural things about shoes that I just donā€™t get. I had read and knew to take my shoes off outside before entering their house. What I didnā€™t know is there are house shoes and shower shoes. There are also designated rooms where no shoes are worn. Iā€™ve definitely made mistakes but, my hosts are super understanding. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll catch on but, in the meantime Iā€™m running all over the place switching shoes.
