I smiled as I replied him, but I couldn’t help keeping my eyes trained on Kujo, Kaname, Kirishima, Shindo and Shion, intently watching their every move.

I took a seat beside Kirishima as he prompted me to. Atop the table laid an open Album with a familiar photograph.

Hinata: Yup. This is the only photo that has her looking directly at the camera.

Kaname: This letter was together with it.

Opening it after Kaname passed it to me, I could see the words “As thanks” written in beautiful font.

Miyase: It seems like the owner of this Castle helped her out back when she lost her footing on the steps.

She had told Ayanokouji Hirokimi, “Please allow me to thank you”. To which he had responded with, “Then, allow me to have a picture of that lovable trickster cat of yours.”.

“If possible, I’d love to snap a picture together with it’s owner. I’m sure it’ll make for a nice happy picture”.

Rei: (So he did have a chance to talk to her properly…)

But even so, he never did convey the feelings he had for her even till the very end. And now, he was chained down within this Castle with only his loneliness as company.

--And if what I witnessed earlier wasn’t just a fleeting mid-summer’s dream…

Shindo: What an opportunity. Wouldn’t someone normally ask for something of a high price in return?

Shindo: So the owner of this Castle was someone cowardly in the face of someone he fancies?

That’s…certainly how it looks like. It was a logical conclusion, coming from someone who has never contacted said person before. However, having been moved by the strange string of incidents, I found myself wanting to ask him more about it…

Rei: …Shindo-san, if someone you fancy had already had a lover,

Rei: Would you still convey your feelings to her and not be a coward?

It certainly felt real, but everyone was acting as per normal, as if that strange time I had spent earlier never happened. As such, I returned back to having a peace of mind. --But the information of “Kiyo-san” was ingrained into my memory.

Rei: Well, yes…I did promise him that I would.

Asagiri: …I know someone from the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine who’s pretty good at what he does. I could introduce you.

Rei: Ahaha…I suppose it’s normal for you to think that I’m hallucinating it all.

Rei: But I think I want to try heading back to that Castle once more.

Rei: And put this to an end, once and for all.

I smiled a little comically as I faced Asagiri in all his muteness.

Rei: If I ever end up seeing anything weird after that…Then I’ll take you up for your referral offer.

Reaching the Study, I slotted the envelope with Kiyo-san’s information into the Album.

Saying as such, Asagiri (?) picked up the Album and touched the envelope.

Rei: You’re Ayanokouji-san, aren’t you?

Asagiri: ―I thought that I’d lose everything, once the spark of life snuffed out.

I thought as I followed his retreating back this time.

I’m sure that there’s someone he wants to meet again, even if they were a ghost. But meeting them again is impossible, despite how much he wishes for it. That’s why he’s so determined that ghosts do not exist.

I know that it was arrogant of me to think so. Perhaps it was even out of my place. --But even so,

Sutamai is another one of those late-coming Christmas event games, because the first one we got earlier this month was a rehash of last year’s, and they just started up this year’s today. The event points are stockings, and the music is all jingly.

I gave the gacha a first run. I say first run because the Makoto SSR card (with a pastry bag) has a higher drop probability tomorrow and the Sosei SSR card has a higher drop probability the day after, and I actually don’t mind any of the main event characters so all those crystals I’ve been saving up are getting dropped on this gacha, I guess. I do think it speaks volumes that in these past few months of Sutamai, the greatest opinion I can muster is that I probably like the Kujo group the least.

Anyway, I gave it a first run to get an event card for those sweet sweet bonus points and picked up event Shun SR. Also a Koya SR, and SSRs for Daisuke and Kotaro.

But also when you get an SR or an SSR, the game flashes a white screen with a voiced one-liner at you (like the time I pulled Hatori’s SR here), so every time that screen came up I went on edge trying to figure out if I’d gotten an event card or not. I may not be too into these characters but the game is finding other ways to play with me.

( 1 ) 草生える is slang for おもしろい, which means "fun" or "interesting". Kirishima used its negative form, so I went with "not fun" and "running on empty" as a metaphor for "hungry / empty stomach" (ハラが減った). Which probz explains him giving Miyase some of his chocorocks.

Kujo: I think that this is the best bet we have to show him how grateful we are to him, don’t you think?

Rei: Yes, these are the ones.

Sugano: Say, did you receive an invitation too?

Sugano: The one for the “Thank you Miyase Party”?

Rei: Well, everyone in the Narcotics department got one.

The multitude of invitations sent to the Investigation Planning Division. Written inside an envelope that had been sealed with a red wax seal was:

“We have decided to cordially hold a thank you party for Miyase Go, a member of the Kujo Family.”

“We’d be honoured if everyone who has been under his care participates in this party.”

Sugano: Oh, same here. Say, this invitation was also sent out to others asides from the Narcs and the Investigation Planning Division, right?

Rei: I think so. Most probably.

Imaoji: If that’s so, then I think that they sent out quite a number of these invitations.

Sugano: I don’t really get it but it does sound fun.

Sugano: I plan on going, but what about you two?

Rei: I’m going. I’m definitely participating in his thank you party.

Imaoji: I’ll go too if she’s going.

Sugano: Yay! A Kujo Family party sounds like it’ll be something awesome!

Sugano: I'm sure the food will be great! And it'll probably be real extravagant too! Plus, lots of celebrities will be there~

Imaoji: A party held by the Kujo Family is almost certainly guaranteed to be a big thing.

Sugano: Whee~ I can't wait! Oh, right! Tsukasa-san said that he's coming too.

Asagiri: Only because I'm worried if Natsuki's going there alone.

Rei: It seems like he's free on the day so he's willing to attend.
