yesterday i was thinking that if i don't get into any phd program by the end of the year and i switch to focusing on studying oposiciones to work at a museum i will try and learn some catalan to get the c1.
#basically my plan for next year is: if i get into the phd i will be living abroad which is scary but i'll be doing a phd which :)#if i don't. i will try to get into a phd next year but that will become my plan b#my plan a will become studying oposiciones and going to conferences / writing papers / studying languages / anything to engross my cv#i was thinking of also trying to get the official tour guide license so i can work as that in the meantime but for what i saw in madrid#the last call for the exams to get it were in 2017. so that's fun#i'll also want to try another official language exam. probably french cause that's the language i know most after english.#and then. i could also try and get the c1 of catalan cause i don't mind moving to another autonomous community to work in a museum#like i am open to state autonomic and local museums. they just have to be historical / ethnological / archaeological#my dream would actually be to work at centros de interpretación in archaeological sites but i don't know if they fall under the 'museum'#denomintation or if they are another thing i'd had to study for#and a c1 in catalan opens up my possibilities in three new autonomic communities#it's also the cooficial language i know the best. and also valencia (and more specifically alacant province) is like. on my top 3 list of#preferred destinations. cause i know pretty well the province so i think i wouldn't be so anxious moving there#and there's family and friends so i won't feel so alone i think#anyways. this is all hypothetical. but yeah#oh!!! i almost forgot!!!#if all of this happens i also want to try learning pottery ^_^#there's a pottery workshop next door to my therapist office so i would most likely go there hehe#i'm happy cause i'm excited both to live abroad and do a phd and to stay here and study a bunch of things so. regardless of what happens#these next few months until 2024... next year is garanteed to be better than 2023. for sure

Sources for Somerton's Plagiarism from Hbomberguy's Video (as much as I could get)
I went back through Harry's video, focused entirely on the sources James Somerton pulled from in the hopes of creating as much of a comprehensive list as I could--though my Google-Fu is not very strong. I did however find something I thought was forever lost and that made me very happy--specifically the magazine Midlands Zone containing the column by Steven Spinks that Harry poignantly used as an illustration of gay erasure... while Somerton uses it to sound like HE is waxing remorseful about the very subject.
This is not a complete list, I'm sure. For one thing, I was only able to attempt to pull sources that Harry himself mentioned in the video. Surely there's so very much more out there. I expect there to be a great deal more internet archeology to unearth just how much writing and culture Somerton has stolen like he's the British Museum of Natural History but for gay people.

Harry's list of mentioned youtubers:
Alexander Avila - https://www.youtube.com/@alexander_avila Matt Baume - https://www.youtube.com/@MattBaume Khadija Mbowe - https://www.youtube.com/@KhadijaMbowe Lady Emily - https://www.youtube.com/@LadyEmilyPresents Shanspeare - https://www.youtube.com/@Shanspeare RickiHirsch - https://www.youtube.com/@RickiHirsch VerilyBitchie - https://www.youtube.com/@verilybitchie
Harry created a convenient playlist of videos by these and other people he wants to bring to everyone's attention.
Please give them your support.

Midlands Zone Magazine - Column by Steven Spinks
After a great deal of searching, I found an archive of the "Midlands Zone" magazine, where you can read through past issues dating all the way back to February 2014. I have also found the issue from which Somerton took Spinks' poignant discussion of gay erasure: Overall archive Specific Issue - Pages 16-17
It will not allow you to download it, but you can read it exactly as it appeared in print form.

I refrained from including certain sources.
First off only focusing on Somerton's work.
Secondly not including anything that might be visible enough to not require amplifying their voice (I cannot speak for all of those I have found links to, but journalism is frequently a thankless job).
Thirdly any source that is of a nature that is antithetical to the very existence of the queer community, such as the right-leaning source that didn't make it into Somerton's video, but Harry was able to identify as a source he had considered using.
If you feel I have missed a mentioned source--or you know of a source from material that was not covered in Harry's video--please do not hesitate to reblog with added details.

10. Conclusion
In the final section, we'll recap the key takeaways from this guide and emphasize the importance of continuous listing management for lasting profitability.
Now that you know what lies ahead, let's explore each section in detail.
What are Free Business Directories?
The Digital Yellow Pages
Imagine free business directories as the modern-day version of the Yellow Pages. Just as you'd open a phone book to find a local business, people now turn to online directories. These directories are websites or platforms where businesses can list their services, contact information, and more. The best part? Many of them are completely free to use.
Free business directories cover a wide range of industries and categories. Whether you're a restaurant owner, a freelance writer, or a plumber, there's a directory for you. These directories are often visited by individuals searching for specific services or products in their local area or niche.
A Quick Search Away
These directories are just a few keystrokes away. When someone needs a service or product, they are likely to turn to their favorite search engine and type in a query. For example, if you run a coffee shop in New York City, a potential customer might search for "coffee shops in NYC." That's where your business directory listing comes into play.
When your business is listed on these directories, it has the potential to show up in search results, increasing your chances of getting discovered by people actively looking for what you offer. So, free business directories act as your digital storefront, welcoming customers to explore what you bring to the table.
Why Should You List Your Business?
The Visibility Advantage
Imagine your business as a hidden treasure chest. It might be filled with valuable goods, but if no one knows it exists, it won't benefit you. Listing your business in free directories is like shining a spotlight on that treasure chest. It increases your visibility to potential customers.
When your business is listed on multiple directories, it's like having multiple spotlights, making your treasure chest even more visible. The more people see your business, the more likely they are to engage with it.
The Credibility Boost
In the digital age, online presence equates to credibility. When potential customers search for a service or product, they often trust businesses they find online. A robust presence on free business directories adds a layer of trust to your business.
Moreover, having a listing in these directories provides vital information to your potential customers. They can find your contact details, location, business hours, and sometimes even customer reviews, all of which contribute to building trust.
Free Advertising
In a world where advertising costs can skyrocket, free business directories offer a cost-effective solution. They provide an avenue for advertising your business without the hefty price tag. Plus, the potential return on investment is significant, making it a wise choice for businesses of all sizes.
So, in a nutshell, listing your business is about increasing your visibility, establishing trust, and gaining free advertising – a win-win for any business.
How to Get Started
Now that you understand the significance of listing your business in free directories let's discuss how you can get started on this profitable journey.
An Easy and Cost-Free Beginning
The beauty of listing your business is that it doesn't require a substantial financial investment. It's accessible to businesses of all sizes, from startups to well-established corporations. All it takes is a bit of your time and effort.
Identifying Your Target Directories
To get started, you need to identify the directories that will best serve your business. Not all directories are created equal, and some might be more relevant to your industry or niche. Begin by conducting some research to find the most suitable platforms for your listing.
Claim Your Listings
Once you've identified the directories, it's time to claim your listings. In most cases, this process is straightforward and involves providing essential information about your business, such as your name, address, phone number, website, and a brief description of your products or services.
Keep Information Consistent
Consistency is key when listing your business. Ensure that the information you provide is accurate and consistent across all directories. This helps in building trust and preventing any confusion among potential customers.
Maintain and Update
Your work doesn't end after the initial listing. It's essential to regularly update your information as your business evolves. New products, services, or contact details should be promptly reflected in your listings.
By following these steps, you can get started on your journey to profitable business listings. In the next sections, we'll delve into more details to help you maximize the benefits of these listings.
Choosing the Right Directories
Quality Over Quantity
Not all directories are created equal. While it might be tempting to list your business on as many platforms as possible, it's essential to focus on quality over quantity. Here's how to choose the right directories:
Relevance: Opt for directories that are relevant to your industry. If you're a fitness trainer, listing your business on a directory for fitness and wellness services makes more sense than a general business directory.
Local vs. Global: Consider the scope of the directory. If your business primarily serves a local community, prioritize local directories. If your target audience is broader, global directories can be beneficial.
Authority: Some directories have a higher domain authority and are more reputable. These can provide a stronger SEO boost and build more trust with potential customers.
User Base: Research the user base of the directory. A directory with a large, active user community can help you reach a wider audience.
Niche Directories
In addition to general directories, consider niche directories. These are specific to certain industries or professions. If you're a specialized business, such as a vegan bakery or a vintage car restoration shop, a niche directory can connect you with customers who are already interested in your offerings.
Geographic Directories
If your business has a physical location or serves a specific geographic area, don't forget to explore geographic directories. These directories are excellent for local SEO and can help you tap into the local market effectively.
The Power of Google My Business
Google My Business is one directory you shouldn't miss. It's powerful, popular, and integrates seamlessly with Google Search and Maps. Claiming your Google My Business listing ensures you show up prominently in local searches.
Creating an Effective Business Listing
Your Digital Storefront
Your business listing is your digital storefront, so it should be both appealing and informative. Let's look at how to create an effective listing:
1. Accurate Information
Ensure that all your business details, such as your name, address, phone number, and website, are up to date and accurate. Any inconsistency can lead to confusion and mistrust.
2. Engaging Description
Write a compelling description of your business. Highlight what makes you unique and why customers should choose you. Use persuasive language to draw readers in.
3. High-Quality Visuals
A picture is worth a thousand words. Upload high-quality images of your products, services, or your storefront. Visuals can create a positive impression.
4. Operating Hours
Be clear about your operating hours. If customers can't find when you're open, they may move on to the next listing.
5. Special Offers
If your business offers special promotions or discounts, make sure to mention them. It can be a deciding factor for potential customers.
Creating an effective business listing is about making a strong first impression and providing all the information your customers need.
Optimizing Your Business Information
Getting Found
Your business listing is like a needle in a digital haystack. To stand out, you need to optimize it for search engines. Here's how:
1. Keywords
Identify relevant keywords related to your business and incorporate them into your listing. For instance, if you're a pet groomer, keywords like "dog grooming" or "cat grooming" are essential.
2. Categories
Choose the right categories and subcategories for your business. This helps search engines understand what you offer and present your listing to the right audience.
3. Consistent NAP
Name, Address, Phone Number (NAP) consistency is crucial. Ensure that your NAP information is the same across all directories and matches the details on your website.
4. Link Building
Building links to your website can improve your SEO. Encourage satisfied customers to leave reviews with a link to your listing. It not only boosts your online presence but also provides valuable backlinks.
5. Regular Updates
Search engines love fresh content. Regularly update your listing with new information, offers, or events related to your business.
Optimizing your business information ensures that your listing ranks well in search results, making it easier for potential customers to find you.
Leveraging Customer Reviews
The Power of Social Proof
Customer reviews can make or break a business. Positive reviews build trust and credibility, while negative ones can deter potential customers. Here's how to leverage reviews effectively:
1. Encourage Reviews
Politely ask satisfied customers to leave reviews. You can include a call to action in your listing or follow-up emails.
2. Respond to Reviews
Engage with your customers by responding to their reviews. Thank them for positive feedback and address concerns from negative reviews professionally.
3. Showcase Positive Reviews
Feature positive reviews on your website and marketing materials. They serve as powerful social proof for your business.
4. Address Negative Reviews
Don't ignore negative reviews. Address them calmly and professionally, offering solutions or explanations as needed.
Customer reviews can be a powerful tool to build trust and attract more customers to your business.
Measuring Your Success
The Importance of Analytics
Listing your business is not a one-time task; it's an ongoing effort. To gauge the effectiveness of your listings, you need to measure your success. Here's how:
1. Website Traffic
Monitor your website traffic and see if there's an increase in visits from your directory listings.
2. Conversion Rate
Track the number of visitors from these listings who take desired actions, such as making a purchase or contacting you.
3. Rankings
Check how your listing ranks in search results. Higher rankings mean more visibility.
4. Review Monitoring
Keep an eye on the number and quality of reviews. Positive reviews can lead to more customers.
5. Customer Feedback
Listen to customer feedback. Are they finding you through your listings? Are there areas for improvement?
Regularly analyzing these metrics will help you understand the impact of your business listings on your profitability.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Pitfalls to Steer Clear Of
While listing your business can be highly beneficial, there are some common mistakes to avoid:
1. Inconsistent Information
As mentioned earlier, inconsistency in your business information can confuse potential customers. Make sure your NAP details are accurate and consistent.
2. Ignoring Reviews
Ignoring or responding unprofessionally to customer reviews can harm your reputation. Engage with reviewers politely and professionally.
3. Overlooking Updates
Regularly update your listings with fresh content. An outdated listing can deter potential customers.
4. Choosing Irrelevant Directories
Listing your business on directories that aren't relevant to your industry or audience is a waste of time and effort.
5. Neglecting Analytics
Don't forget to measure your success. Neglecting analytics means you won't know what's working and what needs improvement.
By avoiding these common mistakes, you can make the most of your business listings and maximize profitability.
Conclusion
In conclusion, listing your business in free directories is a powerful strategy to boost your online presence and, in turn, increase your profitability. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can create a strong digital footprint for your business.
Remember, it's not just about listing your business; it's about creating a compelling and informative presence that attracts potential customers and builds trust. Maintain consistency, encourage reviews, and regularly update your listings to stay on the path to profitability.
And now, let's address some of the most common questions related to business listings.

Justice 40
Joe Biden is boring and often bad at tooting his own horn, but by god, he is good at process.
Justice 40 is simple but powerful application of that. its a shift in how the executive branch works. 40% of money from a bunch of existing programs should go to census tracts that are overburdened with pollution, at higher risk for climate change, and have been historically underserved.
The shorthand here is basically "communities that don't have enough internal resources to deal with long term problems". So yes, communities that had been redlined for decades, ones that have Superfund sites, ones that have high rates of asthma from air pollution.
and this is by census tract. Not city. census tract. So parts of New York City qualify... but other parts don't. And the city HAS to use the money in the targeted part. it doesn't go into the communal pool. it's for THAT tract specifically.
Also all land federally recognized as belonging to a Native American tribe and all Alaskan Native Villages qualify, specifically.
And again, this is for existing programs that are already running and have existing staff and budgets. They're supposed to prioritize grants and projects for those areas specifically. And that's everything from Department of Agriculture, to FEMA, to Labor, to Environmental Protection.
Does it instantly get rid of all the baked in racism from decades past? No, not even close. But it puts in a countermeasure that has a concrete and measurable goal to aim for rather than a nebulous "suck less." even if the administration changes, many of those changes will stick.
And as things improve, some tracts may come off the list! Some may go on that weren't there before!
You can see a map here. Blue highlighted tracts are "disadvantaged" so qualify for that extra assistance! Check and see if you live in one or part of your town does. Because if you've been hearing constantly "we can't afford to fix X problem..." and you're in that tract.... there's money available. For you. Build that sidewalk, fix those lead pipes, get that brush truck your volunteer fire department has been asking for.
And tell your local officials that! "did you look at Justice 40 for funding". And even if they're doing their best, particularly people in little towns.... being a government official isn't their full time job. They may have missed it. Just asking them about the program may suddenly open a world of possibilities.

Ukraine Donation Guide Master Post
(Ver. 2 updated Aug 13th, 2024) I will be reformatting this and adding more in the future when I have time.
Also a quick note, all of the groups I have found through twitter have been around long enough for them to be vetted by each other and the brigades they work with. In fact, a lot of these groups collaborate with each other too. Those that are in the fight for Ukraine have been diligent in calling out those that are grifters. Word spreads around quickly if an organization doesn't show up with what they promised. They also use their social media (often Twitter) as a means of transparency for their work.
Remember: When considering on whether to donate, always use your best judgement and donate to those you trust if you do not see what is listed is up to your standards.
Multi-Purpose
United 24 has various fundraisers dedicated to defense and drones, medical aid, rebuilding Ukraine, humanitarian demining, and science and education. You can pick which one you want to contribute to under their various projects.
Liberty Ukraine uses funds for humanitarian aid, medical supplies, protective gear and equipment, and rehabilitation therapy. You can choose which campaign of theirs to donate to.
Come Back Alive is a charitable foundation that supports Ukraine's military with competent assistance while also focusing on security and defense. They also have projects that use sports to help veterans rehabilitate. You can choose which campaign to donate to.
Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation works to help both civilians and Ukraine's army. You can choose to donate to an active project or any of their general campaigns. Civilian aid campaigns cover temporary housing, supporting crisis and emergency responses, schools, demining, and healthcare. Military aid campaigns cover drones, optics units, communications equipment, and support of air defense teams.
Food Aid
World Central Kitchen works with local partners wherever they are providing food aid. They make sure meals and meal kits are what the local population eats. Even though there is no separate fundraising campaign for Ukraine (that I can see), they still do great work.
Animal Rescue
Hachiko Foundation works to help displaced pets and strays in frontline areas. They help with veterinary care, outdoor shelters, setting up feeding stations, and rehoming animals.
Medical Aid
Hospitallers (Website) is a volunteer organization of paramedics that was founded in 2014. They evacuate the wounded, provide medical aid on the frontlines, assist in rehabilitation, and transfer of the deceased to burial sites. They are also supported by Ukraine Charity. Visit Hospitallers' website to see how many they have evacuated, different methods you can donate, and more information about them.
Other
Saint Javelin (Twitter; Website) is a great place to get apparel, gear, and other cool loot to show your support for Ukraine. They don't take donations, but instead raise funds through their shop with a portion of their sales going towards humanitarian aid and critical items needed by the defenders (generators, pick-up trucks, medical supplies etc). Part of their shop has items made in Ukraine to support Ukrainian businesses. Overall, their products are high-quality. I include them due to their impactful presence in the Twitter community I follow and how they make Ukraine visible in an alternative way. Consider buying someone a gift from their shop.
The Kyiv Independent (Twitter; Website) is a great English language resource for news about Ukraine. I include them because I think supporting good journalism is incredibly important, especially now when the information space is fraught with Russian propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation. My followers have probably noticed I've pulled a lot of quotes from their stories in an effort to amplify Ukrainian voices and experiences. Look on their website for more information on different way to support them, such as their Patreon.
---
If you're on twitter, there are a number of groups and people that fundraise for Ukraine and for specific units fighting on the frontlines. If there is no official website, a PayPal for donations is listed in their profiles. When considering on whether to donate, always use your best judgement and donate to those you trust if you do not see what is listed is up to your standards.
@/Teoyaomiquu almost always has a fundraiser for Liberty Ukraine with a specified purpose. At the time of writing this, he is currently raising funds for engineering equipment such as excavators. One such excavator is already in Kursk. Follow him to stay up to date with what he's fundraising for.
Dyga's Paw (Twitter: @/dzygaspaw) is a smaller group that has recently raised funds for starlinks, drones, batteries, and Ecoflow generators. You can look at the fundraising campaigns they currently have on their website.
@/DefactoHumanity represents and founded Planet of the People with their website U(a)nited for Freedom. She frequently posts updates about their fundraisers and what their partners need. They are known for providing Frontline medical aid supplies, protective equipment and other military aid, technical equipment (starlinks, drones, scopes, etc), and infrastructure equipment (generators, vehicles, power stations, etc). They even have a merch store of the battalions they partner with if that's your jam. Here is their link tree if you wish to explore more. And in case you're curious, there is an article bout the founder here.
@/wilendhornets (Website) specialize in making high quality drones that have gotten a lot of praise from Ukraine's army. They have attracted a lot of media attention too. Check out their website for the list of articles that have been written about them. Their Twitter is very active with strike footage.
Ants Kitchen Hub (@/ants_kyiv) is a volunteer kitchen that makes dry rations for the Ukrainian army. They are more active on their other social media. To learn more about them, check out their link tree.
@/frontlinekit (Front Line Kitchen) is represented by Richard Woodruff. Originally they made shelf stable food for the Ukrainian army, but now their fundraising has branched out to other campaigns such as raising funds for medical supplies and drones. They are a well known group that many battalions have come to for help.
@/bekamaciorowski (Rebekah Maciorowski) is as combat medic and nurse who helps provide medical care to soldiers and civillians at the frontlines. She raises funds for medical supplies and other equipment, but also helps train soldiers in first aid. More of her social media that features her work can be found in her link tree.
@/UkraineAidOps (Website) is another organization battalions frequently go to for help. They fundraise for all sorts of equipment from medical supplies to drones. If you're interested, they also have a shop with patches from different brigades and flags signed by soldiers. Their shop also includes a separate section called the Victory Gallery where artifacts from the war are turned into art. This includes shells that are painted on, scrap metal from downed enemy planes are turned into keychains, and pieces of a rocket are turned into lamps.
Chris Garrett is the co-founder of Prevail. His organization deals with humanitarian demining as well as training for trauma care, training of bomb disposal, and education to the public. Prevail works with local agencies in Ukraine as well as the army.
Project Konstantin (Twitter; Website; Linktree) is still going strong after the death of their founder, British paramedic Peter Fouché. His digital ghost can be found here. They collaborate with the military, thus giving them an insight into what is dearly needed. They often raise funds for starlinks, personalized first aid kits (IFAKs), generators, portable power stations, and other nonlethal military equipment. I regret forgetting them the first time this post went around. Visit their website to see everything they have done and more. It has more information on what and how they do it than this post can cover.
One Team One Fight (Twitter; Website; Linktree) has some of the original members that worked for Ukraine Aid Ops. They formed their own group after differences with the previous one, and are still helping Ukraine. They are very visible on various social media showing what they have accomplished in their deliveries to various brigades. They're another group that seeks to bring starlinks, drones, medical supplies and protective gear to the battalions that come to them for help. Check out their website for more information on their current fundraisers, their achievements, and received recognition.
NAFO 69th Sniffing Brigade (Twitter; Website) Another small group that focuses their funds on delivering drones, generators, vehicles, and saving the occasional furry companion. They are very diligent in their updates for their fundraising campaigns. Check out their website for more information and the articles written about them.
Postmaster General Boomer (Twitter; Website) focuses on humanitarian aid, animal aid, and logistics. Boomer is the beloved pet of one of the founders and the secret boss/mascot. They have many transparency reports and are diligent in reporting the various "tours" they do in getting supplies where they are needed to go. They are based in Germany but have built up many connections during their existence. They have also worked closely with Ukraine Aid Ops.

I am sure I have forgotten some, so please reply or comment with any more I should add to this master post. I will edit and update as I see and evaluate more.

Hey just to let you know in case you hadn't heard, Ru Paul opened a drop shipping book store and is pretending its a queer bookstore, and then added the entire Ingram collection to the site and wildly marked the prices up more than anywhere else. Both versions of Hunger Pangs are listed and are being sold for $33.32 ($16.66 for "members"). Idk if that is something you have any control over or care about but just in case I figured I should let you know!
Ooft, that's a hefty markup.
Regrettably, I can't control which retailers use Ingram, nor can I control the prices they choose to sell at.
Ru Paul's company, Allstora, can mark it ten times higher than the recommended retail price and claim it as pure profit if they want, and there's nothing I can do about it. (I am side-eyeing the membership price because that is significantly lower than the rrp through Ingram, so I'll need to see how they're compensating for that.)
This is a good time to remind buyers that authors don't get paid more if they buy above the recommended retail price. Our contracts with printers like Ingram are negotiated based on the recommended retail price we select, not the final sale price chosen by retailers.
So, y'know, buy wherever works best for you.
Personally, I won't be buying anything from Allstora when there are queer indie bookstores out there who aren't price gouging their customers.
Incidentally, if you're in the US, if you go to Bookshop.org, you can select which bookstore you want to place your orders from by visiting, bookshop.org/pages/bookstores
When you scroll through the different options, you'll see whether the bookstore is queer-owned, female-owned, black-owned, Indigenous-owned, etc.
It's a neat little way of ordering books online while still being able to support brick-and-mortar stores, even if you don't have one near you. I like to switch mine up every few months just so I'm spreading my money around.

get started in meat rabbits masterpost!
yesterday i accidentally hijacked a friend's post and got way more engagement than i expected, which is both amazing and exhausting. so today i present to you: a big post full of resources and answers to the most common questions i've been getting! please refer to this now before dming me with questions <3
information below the cut!
why rabbits?
because they're one of (and in my opinion, THE,) best small-scale meat animal out there. they are relatively small, extremely quiet, can live in cages and therefore do not take up much space, and have a higher feed conversion rate (meaning they make more meat per lb of feed) than chickens, and their poop is AMAZING for gardening! in the footprint of a washer and dryer you can have a trio of breeding animals and space for growing out their litters if you use stacking cages. you just can't beat that.
what do they taste like?
like chicken or turkey. domestic rabbit meat is a very mild, white meat, and can be substituted for chicken in almost every meal. most of my rabbit i grind into mince and use it in place of ground beef. my rabbits, at least, get enough fat to make it unnecessary to cut the mince with pork or beef fat, so even the burgers are really juicy!
will you sell me some meat?
unfortunately in the state of washington it is illegal to sell meat that has been processed at home. at best i could sell you a whole rabbit but you'd have to butcher it yourself.
how much do they cost?
this depends heavily on where you live, though imo they have a fairly low upfront cost relative to other livestock. your biggest upfront expensive will be cages, though you can find good deals on cages and other equipment at livestock auctions/swaps and craiglist/kijiji/similar. the rabbits themselves can be anywhere from free to $100+, though i personally would not pay more than $30-$35 USD for a meat animal (but again, your average prices may vary.) after that, it's all in the price of feed.
feed costs vary from area to area and brand to brand - generally a locally milled feed will be a bit more cost-effective but they can also be lower quality so do your research. depending on your area, you can also feed rabbits partially or even completely on forage or pasture, just make sure you keep an eye on your parasite loads and weights to ensure they are eating enough.
this is a good site that discusses rabbit safe forage: https://riseandshinerabbitry.com/2012/02/26/safe-food-list-for-rabbits/
and this is a good site discussing hay: https://hoppyharlequinsrabbitry.weebly.com/hay-chart.html
this page is focused on other larger livestock but is a decent basic rundown on reading a feed lablel: https://s3.wp.wsu.edu/uploads/sites/2070/2023/03/FS138E_Reading-a-Feed-Tag.pdf
and a basic overview of rabbit nutrition: https://www.merckvetmanual.com/exotic-and-laboratory-animals/rabbits/nutrition-of-rabbits#Pelleted-Diets_v54343534
i do not personally believe that feeding hay is necessary for rabbits to be healthy, which is contrary to what most of you may have heard from online sources. we'll talk about that in a minute. all commercially-available pelleted rabbit feets are made with hay, and the 'long-stem' thing you read about is based on studies in ruminant animals that DO need a 'grass mat' to digest properly...but rabbits are not ruminants. they chew up their hay into fine dust, which is basically what pellets are anyway.
what other equipment do i need?
obviously, your first step should be cages. i prefer cages that are either 24x24 or 30x30 inches depending on the size of the rabbit. you generally want a cage big enough for the animal to lay flat on its belly with its legs out and not touch at least one of the sides (i prefer them to be able to touch none,) and tall enough that they can sit up comfortably. i like to err on the side of larger for breeding does, since their nestbox will take up floor space for a few weeks, and the kits need room to run around and grow before they are weaned. weaned kits need a larger cage or hutch to grow out in until they are eating size.
these cages can be wire bottomed or solid bottomed, just be aware of the hygiene differences between these styles of cages. wire cages are not evil, and will not harm a rabbit's feet provided it has proper density of fur. you can avoid foot problems by buying and breeding rabbits with well-furred feet.
other necessary equipment includes: feeders (j-feefers or pro-b feeders are my favourites), some way to provide water such as bottles, crocks, or an automatic watering system, a hay rack if you want to provide hay, grooming tools such as combs and brushes (if applicable; most rabbits will not need much grooming,) nail clippers, a first-aid kit containing things such as scissors, vet wrap, antibiotic gels and drops, saline solution, fenbendazole (brand name panacur, a dewormer,) gas medications such as simethicone/gas-x, critical care (a specially formulated powdered feed that you can mix into a gruel and syringe feed rabbits that won't eat on their own,) probiotic powder, electrolyte powder, and of course, toys!
make sure any provided toys are edible (so avoid plastic,) and will not get turned into mush and cause dirty mats in the cage when peed on. toilet paper and paper towel tubes are great, as are just chunks of untreated lumber offcuts, wooden baby blocks, or soda boxes. if you have some splurging money, bird toy websites like abirdtoy.com have amazing selections of things that rabbits love destroying. i recommend the refillable skewers!
what about vet care?
this is a fairly divisive topic. most vets do not know much about rabbits, and those that do are typically operating on outdated or simply untrue information that aligns with animal rights groups. therefore, a lot of meat and show breeders do not trust or use vets unless the situations are dire or there is disease testing to be done, and then generally we'll go to our state's ag exstension or college lab. i don't want to come off as anti-vet, i am far from it. but i and most people i know have not had good experiences with vets treating rabbits.
in general, exotic animal vet care (and yes, rabbits are considered exotic pets,) is extremely cost-prohibitive in general, much less when you have multiple animals. like most farmers, rabbit breeders typically handle basic medical situations ourselves.
medirabbit is a great resource for rabbit medical information including illnesses and medication dosages: https://www.medirabbit.com/
how many rabbits do i need?
the average litter size is between 5 and 8 kits, and rabbits can breed montly (though i recommend giving the girls breaks between litters depending on how they kept condition.) a trio of one buck and two does can produce a very good amount of meat for a one or two person household. my spouse and i lived on five or six litters a year for a very long time, using rabbit as our primary meat source!
do they need friends?
no. despite what house rabbit circles tell you, rabbits do NOT need companions and in fact having cagemates can stress them out unnecessarily. rabbits live in warrens in the wild, yes, but that is a survival tactic and the warrens are usually very violent and only work because they can run away when they need to. in capitivity, rabbits that are cohabitated can and commonly will KILL one another. it is much safer and less stressful to keep rabbits in their own spaces. i promise they won't mind.
rabbit colonies, where they are raised together in more 'natural' systems, are becoming very popular with homesteading circles but you should not jump into colonies as your first way to keep rabbits. they require just as much if not even more time and effort to manage than your typical cage setup. plus, you have to have the space to do that, which not everyone has.
can you help me find rabbits?
maybe! if you live in the united states and are comfortable sharing your local craigslist, i can take a look and link you to any rabbits or equipment i think would be worth your time. if you are local to me in western washington's i-5 corridor counties, i may have rabbits i can sell you for the price of feed and gas, but that depends on availability. if you are on the olympic peninsula in kitsam, jefferson, or clallam counties, hit up my buddy ren @buttonbuckfarm for similar services.
arent't they really fragile?
yes and no. rabbits are prey animals with an extremely specialised digestive system. if you are familiar with horses...same deal. if a rabbit stops eating, it will die, and they love bloating/colicking just like horses. there are also a few diseases that are common in rabbits that you should keep an eye out for, especially if you pasture or forage raise.
that being said, rabbits are not made of glass. you can flip them, you can poke them, prod them, put them in a car, drive them across the country, and squish them into weird shapes on a show table. as long as you take precautions during stressful situations and desensitise them to things like handling and transport early, they're shockingly physically hardy despite their sensitive guts.
i'm scared to kill them...what if i mess up?
it's perfectly understandable to fear the end of the process of raising rabbits. and accidents do happen. slaughter is a skill that must be practiced, and maybe you can take solace in knowing that we have all messed one up at some point or another. when this happens, the only thing you can do is try again as quickly as you can until you can confirm the animal is dead. and then take a minute to decompress.
it comes easy to me, but i know that is not true for everyone. but i am a firm believer that if you are going to eat meat, you should know where it comes from and how it gets to your plate. the best thing we can do for our food is to give it a wonderful life, kill as kindly as we can, and use as much of it as we are able.
here is the AVMA's list of approved humane slaughter methods: https://www.avma.org/sites/default/files/2020-02/Guidelines-on-Euthanasia-2020.pdf
and you can find pretty good videos of the various methods demonstrated on rabbits specifically on youtube:
broomstick, choke chain, bunny ballista, hopper popper
please be aware that the above videos show animals being killed. though if you are reading this i imagine you are prepared to see that.
how do i process them once they're dead?
this is another one you can find pretty good videos of online. visiting a local rabbit show may get you in contact with someone willing to teach you in person, as well!
i am working on a big project website that is basically all i think you should know about raising rabbits, which will include detailed slaughter, skinning, and butchering videos, though as of now these are not available. i plan to have this project at least usably done by the end of the year!
ok so what's the thing with pet owners vs breeders
you may have noticed that i've been doing some 'as you may have heard' debunking in this post. that's because there is a very huge divide between the beliefs and practices of pet rabbit owners versus show and meat breeders and owners. why? well, that's complicated, but the big bad evil guy that is the first place to point at is the House Rabbit Society, or HRS.
the house rabbit society is basically rabbit PETA. i am not joking. here is a big masterpost on all their bullshittery: https://www.tumblr.com/o-i-have-too/185596917579/a-masterpost-of-house-rabbit-society-bullshit
i know this comes off as me having an agenda, and i guess i can't say that i don't, but i believe that the HRS' rules and rhetoric are not just wrong they are actively dangerous to follow. i have owned rabbits for nearly a decade and have produced more somewhere in the 1,500 range of animals in that time. i have owned a LOT of rabbits and have experienced all the different ways they can thrive and die and have done a lot of experimenting to find what works. just about everything the HRS says about caring for rabbits is blatantly false according to my experience. proper wire cage floors do not destroy feet. rabbits do not need hay if they eat a good pelleted diet. pellets are not evil or 'fattening' or the main cause of stasis. rabbits do not need leafy greens or veggies. rabbits do not need to be bonded. they are perfectly happy living alone, in cages. flipping a rabbit is not torture and is in fact sometimes necessary for many reasons. meat and show breeders are generally not contributing to the 'overpopulation' problem - if we don't want an animal most of us just eat them. breeding for meat is not evil if it's done appropriately and they are killed humanely.
unfortunately the HRS won the google SEO game and so their website and the sites of others that believe their rhetoric are the only thing that comes up on the first pages of search results. i'm not saying you have to blindly trust me, but i have the experience, and the combined experience of many of my peers both online and offline, that says that basically everything they believe in and preach is just...not true.
anyway that's it, hope this answers most of your questions! i may add to this in the future depending on what other questions i may get. stay tuned for updates on my website project and in general more farm content, rabbit and otherwise :)

The Impact of Top Local Citations in Sint Maarten on Your Local SEO Strategy – Citation Builder Pro
Tumblr media
For businesses looking to improve their online presence in Sint Maarten, leveraging local citations is one of the most effective strategies. Local citations—mentions of your business on the web through directories, social media, or other platforms—can significantly impact how well your business ranks in local search results. Utilizing free business listing sites in Sint Maarten is a great way to ensure that your business is visible to potential customers who are actively looking for services or products in your area. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the impact of top local citations on your SEO strategy and how Citation Builder Pro can help you maximize these opportunities.
Why Local Citations Matter for SEO
Local citations are a critical component of any local SEO strategy. Search engines, like Google, use local citations to verify the existence and credibility of a business. The more citations your business has across trusted platforms, the more likely search engines are to consider your business as legitimate and rank it higher in search results. Here are a few ways local citations contribute to your overall SEO efforts:
Increased Visibility: Getting your business listed on popular local directories ensures that more customers can find your business when searching online.
Higher Search Rankings: Accurate and consistent citations across multiple platforms signal trustworthiness to search engines, which improves your chances of ranking higher in local search results.
Better Local Search Results: Search engines prioritize businesses with verified local citations, making it easier for local customers to find your business.
Top Local Citation Sites in Sint Maarten
Choosing the right business listing sites is essential for a successful local SEO strategy. In Sint Maarten, there are several high-quality directories that can help boost your visibility and credibility. Here are some of the top free and high-DA (Domain Authority) business listing sites that are important to consider for your local citation submissions:
Google My Business: The most crucial platform for any business, this free listing is a must for gaining local search visibility and managing customer reviews.
Yelp: Popular worldwide, Yelp is a great place for customer-driven reviews and local search results.
Yellow Pages Sint Maarten: A trusted platform for local business listings, offering great local visibility.
Facebook: Listing your business on Facebook can improve local engagement and visibility, particularly for community-driven businesses.
These high-authority directories not only help you reach more customers but also improve the likelihood that search engines will prioritize your business in local search results.
Importance of Consistency Across Citations
One of the key factors in local citation success is maintaining NAP consistency—this stands for Name, Address, and Phone number. Ensuring that your NAP information is accurate and consistent across all directories is essential for two main reasons:
SEO Value: Search engines cross-check information from multiple sources. If your NAP details are consistent across all listings, search engines will be more likely to rank your business higher.
Customer Trust: Inconsistent contact details can confuse potential customers and lead to missed opportunities. Always double-check your information before submitting to directories.

If you live in the US, STOP SCROLLING
This is your reminder to make a Voting Plan!
Step 1: Check your Registration
Registered already? Go to Step 3!
Step 2: Register to Vote
Step 3: Learn about your state's Early Voting Options
Like early voting and have that option? Skip to Step 5!
Step 4: Explore your Day-Of Voting Options
Step 5: Research Candidates
Step 6: Share your Plans
Detailed sample down below!
Step 1: I'm in California, so I clicked here at https://www.vote411.org/check-registration
Tumblr media
Clicking on that took me to my state's registration check page, where I filled out in those fun black squares with my info...
Tumblr media
...and there's my confirmation! This also provides info on where I'm currently registered to vote, which is good to know when looking up ballot drop-off locations.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Since I already am registered I could skip this, but just to show it off here's what the online tool at https://www.vote411.org/register looks like!
Tumblr media
The site asks you to put in your name and mailing address, and then sends you off to your own state's voter registration page to finish it up!
Step 3: Since I'm in California, I went to https://www.vote411.org/select-state and selected that state to bring up CA's voting information page.
Tumblr media
And here's what my info looks like! The top of the page gives a quick overview of registration deadlines...
Tumblr media
...and scrolling down reveals a bunch of additional info for any further questions! I've selected Early Voting on the lefthand tab to bring that up here.
Tumblr media
Skimming this, it looks like California offers voting by mail, which is what I want to do.
Scrolling further down the lefthand menu I pulled up the Vote by Mail tab to learn more...
Tumblr media
...and based on the information there I went to find the tab that would tell me about Drop Boxes in California!
Tumblr media
Following that link brings me to California's early voting drop-off page.
Tumblr media
For now let's just use Disneyland as our address to see where we can drop things off. Entering the county and city information we get this list:
Tumblr media
Checking the box to Display Results on Map, it looks like there's a drop off location right by Disney that is open 24 hours! I went ahead and screenshotted the address on my computer, and opened it in google maps so that I could keep track of where it was.
Tumblr media
Perfect, I now have a plan for dropping off my mail-in ballot!
Finally, I want to know where my mail-in ballot is. Assuming you live in a state with mail-in ballots but haven't seen yours yet, you can usually track them or request new ones if your address has recently changed.
I just googled "California mail in ballot tracking" and wound up on this page.
Tumblr media
Filling out the little form at the Where'sMyBallot link (name and date of birth), I can see that my ballot has been sent out and is en route!
Tumblr media
Since it was sent on October 7th, I suspect it's already arrived, and lo and behold checking my mailbox there it is buried under all the political mailers!
Step 4: Since I will be voting by mail, I will skip Step 4 for now (though vote411.org lists traditional voting areas/what I'd need to bring so that's where I'd get that info if needed!)
Step 5: When doing research I started with https://www.vote411.org/ballot, since it gives a preview image of all of the items that will be on my ballot based on my address.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can click on any of these to see the candidate options, and their statements if they've been provided. However for many of these options on vote411.org there aren't too many additional details, so I want to do my own research looking at neutral voting summaries and candidate endorsements by groups I align with politically!
For the election summary, I started with the General Election Official Voter Information Guide booklet that was mailed to my address a few weeks ago. This is the best source of unbiased voting information in my opinion, especially when it comes to state and local propositions since it will summarize them and also include opinion pieces written for and against each one. You can also access it online, as shown below!
Tumblr media
To find it, I googled "California Official Voter Information Guide", and made sure it was sourced from my local government.
Another good source of information I used is npr.org, or National Public Radio. NPR provides news that is free to read and listen to, and is one of my personal favorite ways to stay informed. There's also local branches of the station for every state, and each one will usually have a voting guide with side-by-side comparisons that makes it easy to read.
To find mine, I googled "California NPR Voting Guide"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally if there was anything on the ballot where I wasn't convinced one way or the other on certain candidates or initiatives, I checked out some political endorsements!
A few of the ones I looked at are Planned Parenthood (women's health and abortion access), the Sunrise Movement (climate activism), the Sierra Club (climate change, national park preservation). I found these by googling "[Name of org] voting guide california".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since I'm voting by mail I could keep these webpages opened as I filled out my ballot.
For voting in person, I'd recommend writing candidates down as a cheat sheet to bring into the poll so you can remember what you want to vote for! https://www.vote411.org/ballot will let you arrange that cheat sheet real easily.
Now that my ballot is filled out I'll just drop it off at the address I found in Step 3 - setting a time for myself, I'll plan to drop it off when I go for a walk this afternoon! 👍
Step 6:
After I finished up I went ahead and posted on facebook and to my friends in discord on how I'd made a voting plan, to help encourage friends/family to do the same!
You can be as public or as personal as you want here, but sharing can help encourage others to put a plan together too - if you made it this far it can even be as simple as reblogging this post with a message saying "I Made a Voting Plan"!
