-Sydney loves Beyonce, specifically Partition (IDK it just suits her and I get Partition stuck in my head when I think about her) -She's a witch, but a good witch. She likes making health potions and salves and often sells them for very cheap prices to the locals, specifically the elderly and the children -When she found out Lily (my main oc) was a descendent of Sparda, she bragged to her mom about how she's in love with the grandchild of her mother's fave demon man. -Sydney and Lily's papa, Mandrake, are the only people that Lily allows to call her by her birth name, which is Lilium (The Latin word for 'lily'.) Lily hates being called 'Lilium' by anyone else as most of her childhood before she got adopted, the only time her name was spoken was with disgust or hatred, and she has nightmares of the nuns screaming at her when she 'did something wrong' in their eyes. -Sydney is 6'9 in height, owed to her Witch/Supernatural?ish? heritage. Her mother Wendy is 7'2 feet tall, which startles the locals, but their kind and witty personalities makes them loved. -Sydney's full name is Sydney Anbeter des Blutes. Her last name 'Anbeter des Blutes' is of germanic origin, meaning 'Worshipper of the Blood'. I decided to use a German name because of how wide-spread tales of witches are, specifically in Europe and such. Sydney is not German, or at least her blood is heavily diluted down the line from her family moving around the world and marrying others, but the name still carries yk? -Is a massive tease and flirt and, had she not died in dmc4 timeline, wou;d've only gotten more and more sassy, flirty and teasing as she grew older. Whilst she knows that her teasing can rile Lily up in either a good or a bad way, she enjoys doting on her wife afterwards because she knows her lil' demon and gremlin of a wife can get overwhelmed by affection and attention. She's the one who broke Lily out of her shell, encouraged her to be her best self, and that's a big reason of why I love her. Partners that improve each other are delish. -Got along so often with her girlfriend's (at the time gf) dads that they let her stay in their spare room often and Mandrake (Lily's papa) taught her how to do intricate hair braiding, something he cherished doing as he considered this to be a delicate and intimate process (like bonding) that brought together the ones he loves. He found that when Lily was still heavily traumatised and introverted as a kid, whenever he took a few hours to sit and braid her hair into complicated or intricate styles, the peace and quiet would make her feel safe enough to open up to him about her experiences and fears, and he wanted to teach Sydney this too so she could pass it on in the family she wanted to make with Lily. (I will drop Papa Mandrake and Dad Inferno 'Farin' lore eventually).

-Sydney is, unfortunately, unable to have children. This is due to a curse her family received from the Coven they ran away from due to differing opinions on sacrifice for power. Her great-grandmother gave birth to 5 kids, only 2 could conceive and one was her grandma. Sydney's mother Wendy, an only-child, was spared the curse but it passed onto Sydney. She pretends that it doesn't bother her as much as it does, and even searches for a cure or a way to end the curse. She tells Lily that until the day she can, or can't, find a way, she's hoping Lily doesn't mind bearing their children. Whilst Lily is on the fence about having her own children, she loves her wife so much and wants to give her what she can't have, so she promises that she'd gladly bear any children Sydney wants when they decide kids is in their itinerary. (I feel so cruel doing this to Sydney, I love her GAHHH... fuck her ancestor's old coven. And me for making them). Sydney passed away for lore purposes, but I love talking about her and the potential future she may have had with Lily had she not been killed on Fortuna.

Marley Marl catches the ear of WLBS DJ Mr Magic with his mix of Malcom McLaren's Buffalo Gals. Broadcast across the Tri-State area Mr Magic hosted Rap Attack, the first exclusive rap radio show to be aired on a major station. Marley Marl became Mr Magic's on-air assistant/DJ. In 1983 Mr Magic and Marley Marl started the hip-hop collective the Juice Crew, named after one of Mr Magic's aliases, "Sir Juice"

Marley Marl's debut production was an answer to fellow Queens residents Run DMC and their hit Sucker MC's for Marl's then girlfriend Dimples D, the record is called Sucker DJs (I Will Survive). Delivering an answer record is the beginning of a pattern. The beat programming on this record is kinda wack (he uses a TR-808, don't blame the 808) and the scratching isn't the best, but I love Dimples D (Crystal Smith). Delivering great lines like "he cuts the record with so much class" of course it was going to be popular with DJs. All the great 'turntablists' use it and so do the shit ones. Marley Marl has used bits of the vocal from this record all through his career, it turns up on Shante records, Shan records, The Uptown Crew kicks it

Sucker DJ's was the first record to be put out on Partytime Records, which was a sub label of Arthur Bakers Streetwise Records. In 1984 Partytime would put out the first Def Jam record. Sucker DJ's didn't do anything in the US upon release, it was released in Europe through Dutch label Injection Disco Dance and comped by High Fashion Music on the, Street Sounds Electro rip off, Scratch Tracks compilation. In 1990 Dutch DJ and remixer Ben Liebrand remixed the track, now shortened to Sucker DJ, by blending it with Hugo Montenegro's I Dream Of Jeannie theme, which I think Afrika Bambaataa used to play at UZN parties. It's very possible Ben Liebrand sequenced Scratch Tracks, anyway, Liebrand's remix was a hit across Europe

Marley Marl's beats would get a lot better, he would follow Trevor Horn's team and sample beats, before any other hip hop producers in the US, so the story goes - didn't it turn up on Eric B for President or something?

Self proclaimed King of Turkish pop Kenan Doğulu was TRT's internally selected representative for Türkiye in 2007. He'd had a long career, initially self-releasing albums of his music on cassette, before his first big multi-format release in 2001. Switching label to DMC boosted his exposure and popularity with his first two albums for them selling six-figure numbers in Türkiye itself, and becoming two of the best selling albums in their release years.

He'd never tried to get to Eurovision before. Never entered any of the TRTs various national selection contests. Maybe it wasn't really his thing, although you'd think that for the past four years or so, ever since Sertab, he'd have fitted right in.

In 2007, he was at the peak of his popularity and TRT would have been extremely happy to have secured his services. He offered them three of the songs from nine he'd written. From those three the internal panel picked Shake It Up Şekerim

It's a quintessential ethno-bop. Swirling, heady strings over a pop beat, belly-dancers, Turkish motifs and darbuka rhythms as Kenan does his best to seduce in his off-duty ringmaster outfit. It's even got a bit of handkerchief swirling during the breakdown.

The releases of The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel in 1981, Buffalo Gals in 1982, and Rockit in 1983, (the latter two being major chart hits) put scratching on the map. Unsurprisingly there's a wave of scratch records that come out in 1984 and I'm listing my favourites over two posts

Chris "The Glove" Taylor & Dave Storrs with Karlos Z and Victor Flores - Itchiban Scratch west coast weirdness. Itchiban Scratch is as sublime as it is strange. Chris "The Glove" Taylor is a west coast hip hop legend. He was in the film Breakin' (Breakdance in Europe). In 1984 he made a handful of great records with new age synth wizard Dave Storrs (making great use of a TB-303 here), for instance the two produce Rough Cut for Kid Frost with Yella on the turntables. I hope to do a post on these two. It seems to be well know many of the samples used on Itchiban Scratch come from an easy to find Batman album but what I'd like to know is where did those British kids come from? Watch Your Step

Knights Of The Turntables - Techno Scratch we're still in LA with the slightly less weird Knights Of The Turntables and the classic Techno Scratch. It's almost minimal techno. These guys are not to be confused with the Knights Of The Turntables released in 1985 by Tommy Musto & Tommi Sozzi on the east coast under the name "Dynamic Duo" with scratches by Lenny Dee

Dr. Dre and Unknown - Scratchin' 100 Speakers Dr.Dre is the west coast nowadays, here he is with the king of the 808 The Unknown DJ. Clean and simple 808 beats and scratching. The cuts and scratches remind me of Mixmaster D.ST with a touch of Chuck Chillout

Imperial Brothers - We Come To Rock (We Dub To Scratch Mix) crossing over to the east coast. This is Imperial Brothers debut for Aldo Marin's Cutting Records, it's produced by Hashim and Marin, engineered by Jay Burnett, and the scratches come from Whiz Kid.
