About the Country: -
Finland is a Northern European nation bordering Sweden, Norway and Russia. Its capital is Helsinki, which is home to the 18th-century sea fortress Suomenlinna, the fashionable Design District and diverse museums. Finland is famous for The Northern Lights that can be seen from the country's Arctic Lapland province. It is also famous for national parks and ski resorts.
Best Time to Visit:-
The best time to visit Finland is from June to August, when the climate is warmest, the days are longest and the blossoming landscape at its prettiest, and when tourist facilities and transport services operate at full steam.
Places to Explore:-
Suomenlinna - Suomenlinna, or Sveaborg, is an inhabited sea fortress built on eight islands about 4 km southeast of the city center of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Suomenlinna is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is popular among tourists and locals and is known for its picturesque views. Originally named Sveaborg, or Viapori as referred to by Finnish-speaking Finns, it was renamed in Finnish to Suomenlinna in 1918 for patriotic and nationalistic reasons, though it is still known by its original name in Sweden and by Swedish-speaking Finns. The Swedish crown commenced the construction of the fortress in 1748 as protection against Russian expansionism. The general responsibility for the fortification work was given to Augustin Ehrensvärd. The original plan of the bastion fortress was strongly influenced by the ideas of Vauban, the foremost military engineer of the time, and the principles of the star fort style of fortification, albeit adapted to a group of rocky islands.
Helsinki Cathedral - Helsinki Cathedral is the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki, located in the neighborhood of Kruununhaka in the centre of Helsinki, Finland. The church was originally built from 1830-1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. It was also known as St Nicholas' Church until the independence of Finland in 1917. It is a major landmark of the city.
Arktikum - The Arktikum is a museum and science centre in Rovaniemi, Finland. Arktikum is an attraction, popular culture destination as well as a memorable venue for meetings and conferences. There is also Arktikum Café and library to serve the customers. Two separate actors operate at Arktikum: Arctic Center and the Provincial Museum of Lapland.
SantaPark - the Home Cavern of Santa Claus - SantaPark is a Christmas theme park and visitor attraction in Rovaniemi in the Lapland region of Finland. SantaPark was opened 28 November 1998.
Things to take back home:-
1. Fazer chocolate - Finland’s most popular and in my opinion the best chocolate is produced by an almost 100 years old company from sustainable cocoa.
2. Finlandia Finnish vodka - A famous souvenir from Finland for those who like alcohol. The world-wide known vodka is produced in the village of Koskenkorva and bottled in Rajamäki.
3. Kuksa Wooden Drinking Cup - Kuksa is a type of drinking cup traditionally carved by the Saami people from birch burls.
4. Berry Galore - Cloudberries, along with other berries such as buckthorn, grow best in arctic climates and are harvested here in Finland during the summer.
