Yesterday can be split in three parts.
Part 1: We and many others who followed the advice of Bruno to leave early (6:00 oâclock) got lost already after waypoint 3 in the roadbook. Instead of going south we ended up going northwest back towards the border to Zimbabwe. After a couple of minutes we decided to turn around to find the correct road but missed the turnoff. So after driving in all directions for some 50 km we finally found ourselves on the right track.
Part 2: The correct road turned up to be the nicest drive we have had sofar in Africa: New surface, lush vegetation, winding through the hills up and down in curves and bends. We then ended up on a 50 km stretch of gravel which was not too bad. Again hundreds of kids trying to sell cashews, hot Coke, pineapples and other stuff. At a stop we gave a couple of kids watermelon chewing gum. At first they were very shy but then had big smiles on their faces.
Part 3: The main highway North-South in Mozambique is the N1. We were told it would be bad but after we turned onto it is was beyond anything we had experienced on any of the other rallies before! Right after the turnoff we had to drive across a bridge. The potholes were so big that we could have vanished in one of them easily! We crawled over it at a speed of 1 km/h and it took us 10 minutes to the other side for 150 meters. This continued all the way to Vilankulos with some parts on gravel, broken tarmac and thousands of potholes. Missing one of them meant ending the rally there and then. Even the last 18 km to the very touristy town of Vilankulos was so bad that we had the feeling the car would fall apart. It took a lot of beatings. We arrived in the Bahia Mar Boutique Hotel which was fabulous right at the beach after 10,5 hours on the road. We have now driven from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean by car. Not bad for old Missy the Merc!
The next 2 days we shall spend at the Anantara Resort on Bazaruto Island. It is supposed to be one of the best properties in Africa at the Indian Ocean.

Exploring Tofo
Introduction: Welcome to Tofo
Delve into the heart of Mozambique and discover Tofo, a spectacular coastal town notable for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant local culture. Known for its unique blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion, Tofo offers a travel experience like no other for those seeking to explore the road less traveled. Let's take a journey through this culturally-rich, gastronomically-diverse, and activity-filled city.
Culture: Unveiling the Local Charms
Tofo, a cultural hotspot, offers visitors an authentic immersion into local life. The Mozambican people, known for their warmth and hospitality, will make you feel right at home in no time. Wander through bustling local markets, where the riotous colors of traditional fabrics and handicrafts captivate visitors. Engage in friendly conversations with the locals, as they eagerly share stories of their heritage and traditions.
Gastronomy: A Culinary Adventure
Sample the diverse flavors of Mozambican cuisine as Tofo's thriving food scene satiates the most discerning foodies. Seafood enthusiasts will have a ball sampling the freshest catch of the day: succulent prawns, delicate lobster, and scrumptious fish dishes. Traditional peri-peri sauce, a fiery condiment, adds a tantalizing kick to any dish. For a truly authentic experience, try out local restaurants and street food stalls serving regional dishes.
Activities: Where Adventure Awaits
Tofo is teeming with exhilarating activities for all sorts of adventurers. Dive enthusiasts can explore the magnificent underwater world in the Indian Ocean's arms, while vibrant coral reefs and a plethora of marine life await. Swim with the majestic whale sharks for an awe-inspiring encounter. Surfers can ride the waves at professional breaks, while nature enthusiasts can venture on safari tours to spot the 'Big Five' at nearby nature reserves.
When to Go: Timing is Everything
Savoring the best of Tofo depends on when you choose to visit. The dry season, spanning May to October, offers lovely weather, clear skies, and excellent diving conditions. You'll be more likely to spot marine life during this period, as the seas are tranquil. Do remember the Manta Ray and Humpback Whale seasons from November to April, offering unique opportunities to observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Getting There: The Path Less Traveled
Though reaching Tofo might require a bit of effort, the journey is certainly worthwhile. Land in Maputo, the capital city, before boarding a domestic flight to Inhambane, the nearest airport to Tofo. Alternatively, adventurous souls can embark on a scenic road trip from Maputo to Tofo, soaking in the stunning coastal landscapes along the way.
Where to Stay: A Haven in Paradise
Tofo provides an array of accommodations to suit different budgets and preferences. Choose from opulent beachfront resorts, quaint boutique hotels, cozy guesthouses, or budget-friendly backpacker hostels. Wake to the sound of crashing waves and relax amidst the comfort of your chosen stay, all while enjoying the breathtaking views that only Tofo can offer.
Where to Eat: A Gastronomic Exploration
With a myriad of dining options, food lovers will be spoilt for choice in Tofo. Relish a scrumptious seafood feast at a beachside restaurant where the day's catch is turned into culinary masterpieces. For a more relaxed experience, savor authentic flavors from local street food vendors, serving tantalizing dishes infused with aromatic spices and unique ingredients. A must-try is the traditional Mozambican dish, Matapa, a delightful blend of cassava leaves, coconut, and exotic spices.
Sights and Tours: Unveiling Tofo's Hidden Gems
With mesmerizing natural beauty, Tofo offers plenty of scenic spots to explore. Enjoy a boat trip to the enchanting Inhambane Bay, soak in the stunning panoramic views of the coastline, and observe locals going about their daily lives. Embark on a guided tour to the nearby Tofo Island, visit the local fishing village, and witness the traditional fishing techniques still prevalent among the community. For a truly awe-inspiring experience, join a sunset dhow cruise and marvel at the sky's vibrant hues as the sun dips below the horizon.
Tips for
- Embrace the local culture by learning a few basic phrases in Portuguese, the official language of Mozambique. This little effort will enhance your interactions with the locals. - Respect the environment and marine life by using reef-safe sunscreen and practicing responsible diving and snorkeling.
Money Matters: Mozambican Metical
The local currency is the Mozambican Metical (MZN). While some establishments may accept major credit cards, it's always advisable to carry cash for smaller local establishments and markets. ATMs are available in Tofo, but it's recommended to withdraw money in the larger cities for convenience.
Nightlife: A Vibrant Fusion
After sundown, Tofo comes alive with a vibrant nightlife scene. Enjoy live music performances at beach bars, bask in the refreshing night breeze, and dance the night away under the stars, fueled by refreshing cocktails and the lively energy of fellow revelers.
Transportation: Getting Around Tofo
As a compact town, Tofo can easily be navigated on foot. However, if you wish to venture further, taxis and tuk-tuks are readily available for hire. Always negotiate fares beforehand and ensure you have the contact details of reliable drivers.
Shopping: Souvenirs and Treasures
Take a piece of Tofo home with you by indulging in some souvenir shopping. From vibrant local fabrics and handmade crafts to intricately designed jewelry and artworks, you'll find unique keepsakes to commemorate your time in Tofo.

Yo what's up guys it's Shadow Reaper and it would seem I have forgotten to tell you guys what does block was gonna do about so I'm sorry. Well seeing as Sun City is a inland beach I don't know if that's the right word but that's what I'm gonna call it..I'm gonna blog about the bitch in this one so let's get to it.
Picture this, it's summer it's hot and your tanning on the beach. Eating yummy ice-cream and slush puppies oh and don't forget the iconic candy floss. Beautiful white shores as far as the eye can see. WRONG! If you live in South Africa anyway, because chances are your parents probably drag you off to Durban beach. And let me tell you something that is the one place you don't want to be during December vacation. There is no such thing as white sandy beaches as far as the eye can see. Only a sea of people and sand filled with nasty band at tissues. Don't even think about a nice dip in the sea because there will probably not be enough room. Look I'm not dissing the sea vacation because I love the ocean as much as the next girl. But I refused to go to Durban beach during December or actually any major holiday, because it's too crowded. Don't get me wrong I'm not a snob I just a very claustrophobic person, and as far as I know cluster phobia and water does not go well together. It's kind of funny of how I've been talking about summer at the beach, considering I haven't been on the beach during summer in years. My family usually go to the beach during winter which is kind of ironic cold and swimming doesn't really go well together. But that's where you're wrong if you go to the right beach during winter it's amazing! That amazing beach my family takes me too when we're going on our sea vacations during winter is in Mozambique. Yeah you read that right I said Mozambique. Now you might be asking yourself aren't you guys running the risk of Malaria and many weird ass diseases. Malaria probably yes but there is such a thing as mosquito repellent people. And you just monitor yourself when you get back to make sure you don't get malaria it's as easy as that. But in any way back on topic.
Ah yes Mozambique, unlike many South Africans me and my family usually go there during this June school holidays. Which means we go there during winter. So when 2 in Mozambique is the equivalent of Summer in South Africa in my opinion and anyway. Vs the people that go there during December vacation will "die" of heat exhaustion. I remember someone telling me this thing I don't know if it's true but if it is done I kind of think it's Hella hot Mozambique during December. Ok so that person told me that the Mozambican people come to South Africa during summer to get away from the heat. Once again I don't know if that's true but if it is done hell I don't wanna go to Mozambique during December. I don't do so good with the heat. So go and during winter is actually to me the perfect time to go because the weather is nice it's not too hard so you don't wanna stay indoors all the time.
My family and I used to go to the specific place in Mozambique called Tofo, and we use to stay at this amazing place called Turtle Cove which is just one of the most awesome resorts/camping grounds I've been to. Sadly now we go to a different place that's just as amazing it's called Morrungulo. But it's amazing Nonetheless and I will post a few pictures of me doodling and picking up shells on the beach. And unlike Durban beach this place doesn't have a sea of people, it just has the natural ocean. Ok so there may not be ice cream, slush puppies or candy floss available in Mozambique, I guess that's ok considering you get this amazing natural bitch with no people on it so it's a good trade-off.
Don't even get me started on the fresh fish. During my most recent visit to Mozambique my family and I were camping and there's some coconut trees which is quite dangerous. But hey what is life without a bit of danger? So every morning this guy would come to the camping grounds and ask us if we would like some fish. And depending on your answer he would bring you what you needed. Let me just tell you every afternoon he brought us fish that was freshly caught that afternoon, and it was absolutely amazing. So this "fish guy" would clean and cut up the fish for you so you don't even need to trouble yourself with that. And this "fish guy" brought my family and me various types of ocean foods. We ate a lot of Couta which apparently is also known as narrow-barred Spanish mackerel, prawns as well as some yummy calamari which was fresh out of the ocean. I guess this also makes me lucky because my mum's a chef and knows how to cook it just right. Shout out to you Mum you're an amazing chef.
I'm not even gonna get started on the local restaurants because I'm gonna go on for too long about how amazing their cooking is. Let's just say some of the best chicken I've ever eaten. Oh and let's not forget the local cool drink with so much artificial coloring it will make go on a sugar high, higher than the highest sugar high youth ever been on. Â and this amazing cool drink is called Sparletta Morango, which is actually strawberries Sparletta. If your adult reading this limit your child to one a day trust me on this. This stuff is putting it getting a sugar High like faster than you can snap your fingers. But that doesn't mean that it isn't good so that your kids have some. Another good one for the adults just add a little bit of local rum to this and it makes the best R&R seal ever have
But hey guys if you ever get the chance go to Mozambique and enjoy yourself but don't be an ass hole. Because it's still a different country respect the laws. Just because you're not in your own country anymore doesn't mean the laws of the other country does not apply to you, because they do!
So my next blog will obviously be about food specifically my favorite food. Ok guys that's all from you for this time.
As always I hope you guys enjoyed.
Until next time and remember, always be yourself unless you can be a Fox, then always be a Fox.

The Caribbean and Mediterranean have some serious competition when it comes to romantic island holidays because Africa truly has it all.
From an archipelago that is 115 islands strong to a volcanic wonder waiting to be hiked and biked, an Indian Ocean island holiday off of Africaâs coastline is bound to put the spring back in your step, leave sand on your toes, and a sun-kissed blush on your cheeks. There are plenty to choose from, so weâve compiled a list of our favourite romantic island holidays:
Quirumbus & Bazaruto Archipelagos, Mozambique
First on the list are the archipelagos off the coast of Mozambique, both offering the quintessential island experience but each with their own touch of charm.
The endangered dugong may very well be the unofficial symbol of the Bazaruto Archipelago. Africaâs largest population of this rare, manatee-like animal lives in the warm Indian Ocean waters surrounding the archipelagoâs main island alongside dolphins, humpback whales, manta rays, and whale sharks. And the treasures of the deep donât stop there. This collection of islands is superb for both a family holiday and a couples retreat.
After flying under the radar for far too long, the Quirimbas Archipelago is quickly turning into one of the most sought-after island destinations this side of the continent. More remote and (if possible) more romantic than the Bazaruto Archipelago, this is the place for honeymoon hideaways. In Quirimbas, youâll be met by the unspoilt beauty of powder-white beaches, palm trees, and turquoise waters â minus the swarms of tourists.
Hop from one island to the next on a lazy dhow cruise orâif youâre feeling adventurousâgo scuba diving or snorkelling among the coral reefs. The warm waters are home to turtles, dolphins, and whales. If game fishing is your sport, venture further out to sea in search of bonefish, marlin, mackerel, sailfish, and dogtooth tuna.

Maldives
A picturesque chain of atolls in the Indian Ocean makes up the minute Republic of Maldives. MalĂŠ, its capital, is often touted as one of the most densely populated cities in the world â hardly surprising considering its diminutive size! This pint-sized hub is the thrumming core of the Maldivian island nation and acts as the gateway to utopian island resorts and paradise getaways.
The original inhabitants of the island were an ancient fishing community who settled on the nearby riverbanks. In the centuries that followed, the island was exposed to Buddhism, Islam, and was, among other things, a British protectorate and trading partner with the Portuguese. Its colourful history is reflected in the numerous mosques dotted around the island, in the Sultanâs Park and National Museum, and the nearby tomb of Muhammad Thakurufaanu.

MalĂŠâs narrow streets and vibrantly painted houses are best explored on foot considering the islandâs size. However, there are roving taxis to be found. Affordable and frequent ferries run between neighbouring islands including HulhulĂŠ, where the airport is located, and Villingili, an island known for its pristine beach and excellent diving and snorkelling.

RĂŠunion Island
We like to call the next one on the list the Hawaii of the Indian Ocean. With RĂŠunion Islandâs dramatic scenery, verdant mountain peaks that touch the clouds, and one of the most active volcanoes in the world to match, itâs not hard to see why.
This landmass is significantly dwarfed by its much larger neighbour, Madagascar, while its volcano, Piton de la Fournaise, is perched on the south-east corner of the island where daredevils, outdoorsmen, and those generally intrigued, can hike into its caldera â when it isnât erupting, that is. Otherwise, visitors will have to be satisfied with the magnificently fiery display from a distance. The remainder of the island is made up of streaming waterfalls, lush forests, mountainous landscapes, and contrasting beaches of white and black sand.
Neat streets lined with bistros, boulangeries, and brasseries, alongside trendy waterfront cafes, will have travellers to RĂŠunion islandâs capital, Saint-Denis, mistaking their location for a town somewhere in France. Yet beneath this small coastal cityâs ostensibly French veneer, there is an undeniably creole core. Full of museums, colonial and religious buildings, and a host of other epicurean delights, a visit to Saint-Denis should be part of every RĂŠunion itinerary.

Mauritius
Mauritius is often lauded as one of the most advanced and established island nations in Africa. With a thriving economy and business sector, superb transportation systems, and a great location a short flight away from Johannesburg, this is a great place to holiday if youâre in search of an island vacay with first-world amenities. As with most of Mauritius, it is a place of beautiful beaches and several excellent resorts.
The island is also dotted with tropical vegetation and a booming social scene. Take the plunge amid the rays and barracudas that call the surrounding waters home, or head out to the big blue to hook a marlin or tuna. Championship golf courses are also found on the island, offering an intricate challenge for even the most seasoned golfer.

If that isnât quite your cup of piĂąa colada, there are other ways to enjoy the island and its waters containing prolific sea life. Hop on to one of the many glass-bottomed boats that depart daily for tours around, or float across to neighbouring islands, such as Ăle des Deux Cocos which comes complete with its own mysterious shipwreck.
Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania
A land of spices, warm waters, pearly beaches, and rich marine life â itâs no surprise that the Zanzibar Archipelago is a tourist destination. The main island, Unguja, is a place where worlds collide in the capital city. One small creek separates the historical Stone Town (formerly the capital of the Zanzibar Sultanate) from the developed Ngâambo, a settlement for African slaves in the mid-1800s and now home to developed office and apartment blocks.
Acknowledged as the historical and cultural core of the capital, Stone Townâs waterfront is dotted with architectural and traditional delights, from the Old Fort and House of Wondersâthe former containing local markets and an arena for small shows while the latterâs terraced walls house a museum of Swahili and Zanzibar culture.
The stunning white walls and turquoise stuccos that adorn the balconies of the Old Dispensary are a visual pleasure, while at night the enticing Forodhani Gardens tempt visitors with its market of ethnic seafood.
The smaller satellite islands surrounding Zanzibar island offer a more secluded and less developed alternative to their larger neighbour. On Mafia Island and Pemba Island, visitors can dive with whale sharks, snorkel among colourful coral reefs and keep a keen eye out for the endearing pygmy hippo while cruising through mangrove forests.
Madagascar
In some places, rainforests of long-limbed succulents house leaping lemurs, while stout baobabs sport trunks branded with red-and-yellow swirls. Elsewhere, powder-white sands dissolve into cerulean waters, hiding tropical barrier reefs. This kaleidoscope of nature forms the fabric of Madagascar.
With 250 islands, 450km of the barrier reef, and around 5,000km of coastline, the tropical islandâs shores prove hard to resist. Divers are spoiled for choice â from underwater cathedrals to rusted shipwrecks â and share the deep waters with rays, whale sharks, and reef sharks.
Snorkel among curious fish, colourful coral, and graceful turtles. Those keen to keep their heads above water can watch the humpback whales breach, join a local fisher on a pirogue trip, or simply recline in their hammock.
Isalo National Park covers 81,500ha of Jurassic sandstone massif and is home to ringtail, brown, and sifaka lemurs, as well as sacred Bara burial sites. Delve into the islandâs history, from the pirate cemetery strewn with palms, to the twelve sacred hills of Antananarivo. Madagascar is a cultural melting pot of intricate beliefs and ancestral rituals as well as ethnic spices and exotic cuisines.

Seychelles
Far off the coast of East Africa, a chain of islands are the glittering jewels encrusting the necklace that is the Seychellois Archipelago. 115 islands and islets make up this small Indian Ocean island nation, home to some of the best beaches in the world.
This is the tropical paradise you thought only existed in movies. Spend your days discovering atolls and their beautiful beaches, and the larger islands blooming with colourful bougainvillaeas, frangipane trees, hibiscuses and palm trees. The crystal-clear waters of the Saint Anne Marine Park are comprised of six small islands surrounded by an abundance of sea life whose delicate ecosystem is fiercely protected and a sight to behold.
