#textboxes #deltarune #susie deltarune #lancer deltarune #kris dreemurr #ralsei #my art #long post #hi welcome to my secret notes about this textbox adventure!#my developer's commemtary if you will.#i originally drew susiezilla in her light world color palette. but i changed it afterwards because i realized she likes herself better in #the dark world than in the light world. if she were to draw an idealized version of herself it'd be based on her dark world form.#if you pay attention to kris' drawing you'll see that they tried to give it big angel wings. but it's kind of hard to do that when you can'#control yourself.#i named Urisk that to complete the . uhm. quadfecta?#Frisk Urisk Chara Kris. or FUCK for short.#i was going to give urisk angel features because they're so Good. but i realized ralsei probably considers devils to be good rather than #angels. since he exists to banish the angel's heaven and all the heroes have strong devil motifs surrounding them.#i still gave them a halo though bc i still wanted them to seem Good.#i feel like the pacing on this one could have used some improvement #but overall i'm just happy i got it done! i'm very proud of it :]#that's the thing about these textboxes. it's really hard to go back and change previous textboxes #you've just gotta keep on chuggin forward until you reach the end! no looking back!#anyway i hope you enjoyed this one! :3 #oh also. i put kris on the opposite side of everyone else to symbolize their isolation from everyone else bc of the soul #okay actually i have more to say. so susie's drawing looks like something hou could actually draw on a paper #meanwhile ralsei's was based on the drawing on his unused manual. which has pure black outlines and perfectly filled colors like it was mad #in ms paint. also i was originally going to include noelle and berdly in this too #berdly's OC was going go be Super Lord Berdly; Mayor of Smartopia #and noelle's OC was going to be really beautiful but really tragic

state of deltarune theories is so so bad cuz they all try to connect back to the theme of escapism without noticing that that theme isn't even in deltarune.

#the personification of noelle's overbearing mother follows her around throughout the cyber world.#and she spends the entire game scared and confused and alone. until the very end where she's forced to stand up to that figure that scares #-so much. not because she went through any eye opening adventure where she learned to be more brave-#-but because her friends were literally about to die.#she didn't grow at her own pace. she was forced to speak up at the last moment.#kris gets a weird effigy of their brother forced on them as a romantic interest without their say in the matter-#-because they literally cannot speak their mind.#and gosh. the most defying example. berdly.#he spends the entire game trying to build an actual escapist fantasyland. with all his shtick about making a 'smartopia'.#but it never works out.#berdly keeps trying to live that escapist fantasy. a fantasy where he's the hero and gets the girl at the end (the girl being susie)#but he never gets that.#absolutely nothing in the game points at it being about escapism in any shape or form.#hell. I'd say dark worlds don't even reflect what the lightners want in any way.#kris doesn't get friends because of the dark worlds. but because of *us*.#we. the player. is the the one making the right choices for kris.#deltarune is much more interested in exploring what it means to be stuck in a narrative-#-that forces per assigned roles on characters that don't want those roles than it is ever about escapism.#like. did everyone miss the huge player shaped elephant in the room or what.#✏️

The whole "Dark World transformation is a reflection of a person's subconscious" theory makes a lot more sense when you notice Berdly's DW outfit is ludicrously more overly designed and edgy than everyone else's getup, because that's what a Gamer would find "cool."

Like seriously, everyone else's outfit is relatively straight-forwards and then there's the guy with a scanner, feather-scouter digital cover things, big shoulder pads, bracers, a circuit-looking skirt, visible under-armor AND greaves. My man's cosplaying his WoW build.

I've been thinking about this unused Ralsei dialogue tree, mostly because his dialogue about Noelle is pretty interesting ("this world's magic"???), but also because it amuses/interests me that he noticably flounders when prompted to speak about Berdly. He knows stuff about Noelle that he logically shouldn't, but It's like whoever or whatever the source of his knowledge is doesn't see Berdly as important enough to prime him on.

#I really am interested in the suggestion that the prophecy creates a hierarchy of importance even amongst lightners #and this has a tangible effect on how they interact with dark worlds and how dark worlds (and by extension darkners) interact with them #maybe this is part of why berdly doesn't have ralsei horse blinders?#deltarune #berdly
