This is the catalogue that accompanied the exhibition “Lila de Nobili – Yannis Tsarouchis. An encounter”, that was held at the Benaki Museum, in cooperation with the Tsarouchis Foundation (4 July-23 September 2002), as a tribute to the great set and costume designer and painter Lila de Nobili (1916-2002). In this book more than 200 works by Lila de Nobili have been gathered together from the Yannis Tsarouchis Museum and private collections, as well as samples of her work in the theatre and the opera (models for sets, costume designs, etc.) and of her skill as a painter (illustrations of books, impressions of Italy, etc.). At the same time works by Yannis Tsarouchis are presented that demonstrate the artistic kinship and common concerns of the two artists.

Vintage Greek kiosk miniature sold in the Benaki Museum shop. I posted a photo of it because I loved the attention to detail, especially when it comes to the magazines. It has these vinage comics which were popular in Greece, it has the old Romantzo and it has covers which were real ones. Bonus points for the EPSA advertisement on top, because as we ALL know EPSA is the best soft drink brand in Greece if not more and if you have a different opinion... no you don’t.
It also caused a bittersweet feeling because those kiosks, or períptera as they are really called, are now endangered in Greece as more and more shut down left and right and give their places to regular shops with sundries.... come on... please please please bring the classic kiosks back. Help a kiosk owner instead of buying from supermarkets or other shops whenever you can :(((((((
