Status Update + My Return to ORV

Hello y'all! Despite my total radio silence here on Tumblr over... who knows how long, I'm doing just fine! I was on a writing hiatus for 6 months or so, and I also transitioned from grad school to industry (writing a master's thesis, defending it, graduating, moving across the country, a job search, so many interviews, finally getting a new job, moving across the country again, and settling into my new role).

In the past few months, I returned to the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and Scum Villain's Self Saving System fandoms (old faves of mine, but I was only ever a reader until recently). For those of you following my Winter Light Verse (still planning the continuation of that one out, and I hope to finally break the series hiatus earlier next year!), those two fandoms had a massive influence on my Verse. Especially in the case of ORV - so it feels like I'm finally moving back, however slowly. I'm excited to continue being active in all of those fandoms (along with S-Classes, which I recently ran into and love!)

As for what I'm doing right now? I took on the Froday Flash Fiction Challenge for December, where we're given a new prompt each day and I have the 24 hours to write for the prompt. I'm writing the work, Ad Astra Per Aspera and have actually kept up with the 600 words per day so far, which is a shocker for me. This fic is compatible with another fic I recently started, My Shining Star, My Guiding Light. Both of these fics are for the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fandom.

For those of you unfamiliar, the Winter Light Verse is my total rewrite and rebuild of the Twilight Saga, infused with Eastern themes and made very gay. The central ship of that series is Carlisle Cullen/Beau Swan, but there are several other pairs and characters that really bring the world out. Also, I had the realization the other day that I was basically writing a danmei novel with all the tropes, so that was a bit amusing. The main work is Apricity, and all of the other works in this series are either side stories or AU/spin-offs of some kind.

Ships: Carlisle Cullen/Beau Swan, Edward Cullen/Mike Newton, Alice Cullen/Jessamine Hale, Rosalie Hale/Eleanor Cullen Summary for the longfic rewrite, Apricity:

After Renee marries Phil and ropes Beau into family life, Beau moves to Forks, a town with a mystical aura. As Beau settles in, he gets closer to his father Charlie, his new friends, and the mysterious Cullens. After an accident lands Beau in the hospital where he meets the oldest Cullen sibling Carlisle, he begins to feel a strange draw to the man, notes an intricate mark, and knows for certain that something unnatural is afoot. A Twilight/Life and Death rewrite that starts on a similar premise, diverges very quickly, takes place in an entirely different world, leans more deeply into traditional/dark-erotic vampire themes, centers around an Eastern framework, and is very gay.

As for my current projects, both are for the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint fandom and are compatible with each other. Both fics are both Joongdok (Yoo Joonghyuk/Kim Dokja) and Plotja (Secretive Plotter/Kim Dokja), but at the same time, they are written as the same person (I swear it makes sense!). Ad Astra is my current daily project, and I am slowly working through the next chapter on Star/Light as the logistics of my still-chaotic IRL situation settle a bit.

So I am currently writing a Twilight fanfiction, something I thought I would never do, for the pairing of Bella and Carlisle. I am essentially rewriting the books so that Edward was never interested in her and that Bella meets Carlisle first. Bella also has a backbone in my story, and isn't just some meek little damsel in distress, and she also has a brain.

(let me reiterate the fact that I absolutely hate Twilight and every single way, but I genuinely love these two characters)

Also, in my fanfiction vampires and werewolves get along just fine. I've substituted Michael Sheen's character from the Underworld franchise, Lucian, as the head of the Volturi, so that there is a werewolf presence in the governing body.

I have even made some digital art. I'm debating whether or not I'm going to share it here 🤷

My Top 100 Ships (#79: Bella/Carlisle)

Fanfiction Rating: C- On AO3, at least, they have only 206 fics: I'm not sure about numbers on earlier sites. The quality is mixed, I feel like the Volturi fics tend to pay more attention to the worldbuilding that comes with such an old vampire, but these two are beloved to me.

When Did I Start Shipping Them? Twilight was one of the first places where I started identifying as a multishipper: it was before I joined online fandom spaces, but there were a lot of fans around me and I was just ready to hear everyone out on their Bella ships! This is the one that's my favourite from a nostalgia perspective, but it's been around my head since 2009. Why Do I Ship Them? I primarily like how they contrast Bella's canon dynamic with Edward: Carlisle sees humanity in a positive light, but doesn't completely discount Bella's experience of vampirism the same way that Edward does. I really love both of the characters and I think that people who ship Bella with Carlisle are more likely to understand the parts of Bella that I love: the way she is both selfless and selfish at times, her love for art and how that comes from a place of seeking a sense of belonging.

Favourite Fanfiction Tropes/Staples? I like the series rewrites: I basically like anything that doesn't involve the whole 'cuck Edward' fics that this pairing seems to inspire (whether consensual from Edward or not). Oh, there's one Carlisle/Bella/Esme fic with age play elements that just made my whole world when I found it.

Carlisle x Bella [Bellisle] Soulmate AU?

“Dad it’s fine,” Bella told Charlie as she helped him stand up. “I was going here for college anyway. Helping you out after you got SHOT is not a big deal.”

“You’re supposed to be enjoying yourself. Having some youth,” Charlie said gruffly, his face turning sad. Bella sighed.

Her dad hadn’t been happy when he discovered Renee was more or less treating Bella as her own parent. That the food on the table and the bills being paid were because of Bella. It was when Renee wanted to travel with Phil, and Bella had mentioned her worries during their phone call.

The fight it caused between the parents had Bella moving in with a friend. And therapy. So much therapy.

When Bella decided to move to Forks for college her mother hadn’t been happy but the therapy helped set strong boundaries.

“Dad, you barely let me do anything for you.” Bella told him. “Jacob is over half the time helping out.”

“Is he still bugging you?” Charlie had to ask. Bella shook her head.

“No. I think he realized it’ll not happen. Call me romantic but I want to wait for my soulmate.” She smiled at her dad who looked back with a sadder version of her expression.

Charlie and Renee weren’t matched, and while Bella didn’t hate being born she did think the nasty divorce did contribute to why she wasn’t interested in dating anyone but her soulmate.

Even if it ended up like her dad, a match with someone he wasn’t sexually compatible with, she hoped for as strong a bond as he had with Billy.

The two entered the room where a nurse directed them, the older woman smiling indulgently at the conversation she had overheard. Inside Bella helped her father to a chair and turned to go. That was when the door opened again and the most handsome man she’d ever seen walked in. As soon as their eyes made contact she felt it. The black and white mark on her neck became filled with colour, just as his did. He froze, staring.

“Oh,” Bella said in a small voice.

“Ah… I’m Carlisle Cullen,” the doctor said awkwardly.

“Huh, better then some dick,” Charlie said as Bella couldn’t look away from her soulmate.

On his end, Carlisle was a bit nervous. He hadn’t expected to find his Soulmate. Not as a human anyway. It wasn’t uncommon- Rosalie and Emmett came to mind. But it wasn’t common either.

It was probably why Alice had been smirking at him that morning as she prepared for her classes in university. They were lucky that Esme’s mate, Harry, had illusion powers. He’d made them all look old enough they could pass for a gaggle of relatives who’d pitched in to get a house for them while some of them went to college.

Carlisle was the oldest but a new doctor who was eager to make his mark. Esme was his sister who’d moved with him alongside her husband who was going to school for art. (Again) Edward was their brother who had decided for some reason to be a teenager. He admitted he was curious about high school now rather than back in the fifties when he’d last gone but everyone agreed he was just being weird there.

That story was their parents had died when Edward was younger so his sister took custody.

Rosalie and Jasper posed as cousins to them. Emmet being Rosalie’s boyfriend and Alice Jasper’s.

It was simple, it worked. They were happy. And now he had his soulmate.

What a marvellous thing.
