Small Town AU (Dinah)

Dinah works at the Starlight Diner along with Pearl, Tassita, and Belle

Belle typically works night shifts, Pearl does morning, and Tassita does the lunch shift.

Dinah will consistently have a morning shift with Pearl but Dinah is constantly picking up shifts throughout the week.

They all work Saturday and Sunday mornings when it’s the busiest

Dinah tends to pick up shifts because she likes to keep busy, when she was home from breaks during college she would end up picking up a new hobby and it would end up with her canning homemade jam in her kitchen at 2am.

Dinah is just the kind of girl who needs to have her schedule full

Dinah is not originally from the town of Starlight, but she was roommates with Belle in college who is from Starlight.

After graduating (and struggling to find a post-grad job) Belle mentioned that she was moving in with her childhood friend and invited Dinah to the extra bedroom

Belle, Tassita, and Dinah have been roommates and they rent the second floor of an old converted Victorian style house in town that’s been split up for apartments.

Dinah is consistently setting off the fire alarm since it’s so sensitive. She’s currently working on experimenting with different recipes, her dream is to publish a cookbook. Currently she has a blog that she will post some of her recipes to.

On Wednesdays Dinah runs a cooking class at the community center, it’s typically the same two or three grannies but she enjoys it nonetheless.

The grannies always tease her that “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” and that “men want a woman who can cook for them” and Dinah just smiles and nods because she doesn’t have the heart to tell them that she’s a raging lesbian.

It’s times like these that she wonders why she moved to such a small town to begin with, even if it was to be with her friends.

After meeting Greaseball and realizing that Momma actually convinced her to follow through with the youth sports coaching, every Wednesday after her cooking class she finds herself peaking into the gym to see if she’s still there or not

One week Dinah gets the courage to approach Greaseball, as she’s tidying up the gym from practice, and Dinah offered some of the leftover scones she had made in class.

This is single-handedly the nicest thing that has happened to Greaseball in the last three months since moving back to Starlight, and even though she doesn’t really know what a scone is, she feels compelled to make up the gesture

Greaseball offers Dinah a ride home from the community center in her truck and they end up parked outside of Dinah’s house for half an hour just talking.

Dinah now knows why she moved to town

It is genuinely not surprising that Ashton has such a strong The Gods Are Going To Kill Us take on the situation, given what they specifically have seen and what they have to relate to. They're about two weeks out from 1.) getting done violence onto them by an angel and then 2.) being told they have a bit of a dead thing that the gods tried to kill inside them. Then they go and put a lot of effort into getting that dead scrap to wake up (with disastrous consequences illustrating how incredibly volatile its power is). Then they have their only religious friend blow up in front of them. Then they watch a movie trilogy where the only non-god main character is another earth genasi broken-walking-timebomb whose main purpose on the mission is to explode when the gods need him to. They don't see the Lawbearer weep for her son, they only see the Emissary, a child, crying because he's afraid to die. Then they go to Vasselheim, the city of the gods, and see the corpse of a Titan, the dead thing the gods killed, yanked out of the earth and puppeted by one wannabe god and now desecrated in death by the overconfident followers of all the others. They're making something beautiful out of it, they're living on it, and normally he'd be in favor of that but they don't even know its name. They're building new temples on the corpse of the old world, hollowing it out and starting fresh, and Ashton is a part of that old world. They cannot stop being connected to a power the gods seem to, at best, be willing to weaponize. That would make anyone paranoid; given their background it's impressive that he's not more combative, tbh.

Small Town AU (Christmas Edition)

GreaseDad tries to be home for Christmas Day as much as he’s able but that’s not always possible depending on whether he’s working yard work or local work.

If he knows his schedule in advance, they’ll either celebrate Christmas on the 24th or 25th, whichever works better.

Greaseball doesn’t mind too much, she’s usually home alone.

CB will take her out to breakfast at the diner on Christmas Day, they’ve been doing this since Greaseball was 3. If her dad is available then he’ll join as well.

When she was younger her dad made sure to put her in the local church’s nativity play. CB always volunteers to film and will cheer a bit too loudly anytime Greaseball would say her line

There’s still a picture of Greaseball and Rusty at age 7 when they were both Shepherds hanging up at the McCoy house. Greaseball looks absolutely miserable and Rusty is smiling so wide you can see his missing baby teeth.

Both Rusty and Greaseball hate that picture but Momma thinks it’s adorable. Slick also loves the picture because she loves the fact that Greaseball and Rusty hate it so much

One year Slick was able to photo copy it and turn it into ornaments so she gave it to both Momma and GreaseDad

Every year Greaseball tries to hide the ornament in the back of the tree, but as soon as her dad gets home he moves it back to the front.

They will continue moving the ornament back and forth until the tree gets thrown out.

On Christmas Eve the town of Starlight hosts a Christmas parade with outside vendors setting up various booths along Main Street. Since the community center board is the one who organizes the event, Momma becomes an absolute mad woman the entire month of December.

She loves her town, but the stress of bringing the Christmas magic and trying to boost the local economy through tourism is a heavy load for her.

When Dinah moves to the town of Starlight she decides to help out Momma since she’s also a part of the community center.

She gets put on decoration duty, and by extension her roommates Tassita and Belle also get forced into decoration duty.

Their apartment looks like Christmas threw up with the amount of tinsel, pine needles, and glitter that ends up scattered everywhere.

One time after her night shift at the diner in mid-December, Belle walks in and the living room has about fifty large poinsettias in the corner.

“The order came in late today and it’s supposed to snow. I can’t just leave them outside!”

Belle and Tassita have learned that it’s better to not ask what Dinah is doing, but rather just ask her if she needs help with it.
